Jim arrived early for our appointment. He got to work right away and did an excellent job. He was able to install the outlet in the wall and run the wires through the basement ceiling. He tied into an existing junction using the appropriate fasteners and stapled the Romex appropriately to be neat and meet building code. He completed the whole job in just a little over an hour and you'd swear that outlet was always there! I would VERY HIGHLY recommend Jim - for both his professional expertise and his customer focused approach. He is reasonably priced and does exceptional work.
Description of Work: I obtained quotes from 3 licensed electricians to install a new outlet on a back stairway in a very old home (circa 1940). Jim's quote was much more reasonable than the other two quotes I received and I was very impressed with Jim's professionalism and customer focused service approach.

Over, the lights look great and the house was left neat and pretty dust free. Getting in contact with Jim was the hardest part. He is extremely busy and works on large jobs. My job was small.

Jim does quality work second to none. He is a top-notch professional from start to finish and beyond on a project. I've now called him to do work at my houses three times over the past two months and each time, he is incredibly responsive and able to provide an estimate for work based on an email I send him. That is great because otherwise I'd have to take time off from work to meet him at my house just for a quote. He shows up on time and prepared to do his work. His work is thorough and looks like it has always been there. His installations are plumb, secure and level (IE the new ceiling boxes in the bedrooms are centered in the room and flush with the ceiling, new outlets are level, not tilted in the wall and at the same level as all the other outlets). He takes the time to clean up after himself when the job is done and he even follows-up after the job with an email to ask if everything it to my liking. A contractor who follows-up is rare these days and I appreciate that! I have no reservations about allowing him to work in my house unsupervised while I'm at work all day. I trust him and his work that much.
Description of Work: I've had Jim perform a number of things for me at two houses over the past two months. First, he corrected some pre-existing electrical code violations at my old house after a point-of-sale inspection revealed them. Once I moved to the new house, I called him again to provided a number of miscellaneous electrical upgrades: adding junction boxes to bedroom ceilings for ceiling fans (there were none prior), provide new electrical outlets/switches to my basement, mudroom, laundry room, garage and bedrooms. For the garage, he ran all the new wiring in the existing stud walls so I did not have metal conduit running everywhere. Jim provides all his own materials and I think he's got a better selection and quality of materials than the stuff you buy off the shelf at big box home improvement stores (case in point: the 4 way switch Jim provided for me was a lot more "residential-grade" than the 4 way switch I purchased at a big box store which was very "commercial-grade" and bulky).

I called to get an estimate on a light switch that didn't seem to work well. Based on my description, he was able to diagnosis the very simple error (the switch didn't work with LED bulbs) and said that coming out to look at it wouldn't change anything. I really appreciated that he took the time to answer me, even though he didn't get any payment for doing so. When we have bigger electrical problems, I will start here first.

He's about a third of the way through it so we are not sure of the cost but it will probably be around $3,000. He picks up lunch every day for me so he is good people. He is doing everything right which was our biggest concern as first time homeowners. He is doing everything right that we need done. He is not a hack; he’s a pro. He will definitely be our electrician from here on out.

Jim made a great first impression by showing up exactly when he said he would (on a Saturday morning). We walked through the house together and discussed the repairs to be done. On that initial visit, Jim gave us an estimate of the cost of services; and the final bill was the same as the estimate. Jim did a great job on all the repairs and we are very happy with the result. Moreover, during his repairs, Jim discovered that we had a minor leak coming from our main bathroom. We will definitely be calling Jim for any future electrical repairs.
Description of Work: Jim replaced some old wiring in a basement storage area. The wiring was replaced with metal conduit. An outlet was installed in a sunporch where there was no outlet. An outlet was removed from above a stove; and two new outlets were installed on either side of the wall near the stove. One outlet in the living room was replaced with a grounded outlet. A light switch was relocated in our kitchen.

Overall working with Jim was a pleasant experience. He was prompt in reviewing the work and supplying a bid. It did take a bit of coordination with Jim, electrical company and the township. This prevented me from being home for the project. Jim emailed photo updates as requested while working on the meter base to keep me updated on his progress. In addition, since the home was with out power, I felt Jim was mindful of this and worked as expeditiously as possible while coordinating to minimize the effect it would have. Jim, Thank you for your work.
Description of Work: Provide labor and material to re-attach 200 amp meter base to house. Install a 2" expansion fitting for conduit coming out of the ground. Install a new backer for meter base that will fit over siding and behind meter base. Replace aluminum wire from meter base to house with copper wire.

Jim from Expo was exceptional. He figured out the best ways to do everything I wanted in my 85-year-old house. He was professional, thorough, neat, and a pleasure to work with. I was very pleased with the work and especially impressed with Jim. The price was extremely reasonable for the high quality work and in consideration of the challenge of upgrading an older home.
Description of Work: I had five outdoor outlets installed, including one across my driveway, five outlets added to an enclosed porch, two in bedroom closets, a new main panel installed and the line to the utility pole buried and re-connected, outlets installed in my garage, ceiling fans installed, and closet lights connected a wall switch.

I had 2 other contractors come out and I was not happy with their reactions to the job or to my cities permit requirements. Jim Hess from Expo Electric listened to what we wanted and preformed the job as we asked, within code. Their was some crawling around in an attic on a hot August day, but Jim did the job as requested without complaint. We also had some delays due to other contract work unrelated to the electrical, Jim was patient and scheduled with our needs. Jim was professional and personable, keeping us appraised on every aspect of his progress. I will use Expo Electric again and recommend him to anyone in need of electrical services. Thanks Jim!
Description of Work: I was having a pool installed and needed electric run to the area. As it turned out, the hole box needed to be replaced, as well. I also wanted an outlet outside and a security light with custom switch placement.

Overall, the experience was extremely positive. They fit us into their schedule and came to our home the same day we contacted them. The work was delayed twice due to rain; however, they completed the job as soon as weather permitted. They provided clear explanations of what they were doing and why it needed to be done. Their work was of the highest quality.

Over the weekend, I lost power to my garage and to the low voltage lighting on my porch. I had cleaned the porch thoroughly that weekend and assumed something got wet. The breaker for the garage was tripped, but resetting it didn't fix the problem. I found Expo on Angie's List witha good rating so I called. Jim answered the phone, and it was obvious he was talking to me on a cell phone at another job site. I explained my situation and he told me he could come out later in the day and he would call me back around noon. I didn't get a call back until almost 2...he apologized and said the previous job took longer than anticipated. He said he could be at my house in about 20-30 minutes. He arrived, explained his fee structure ($65 per hour and $35 service call fee) told me he didn't think it would take more than an hour, and then proceeded to get to work. He diagnosed the problem, replaced the damaged part, and also sealed the open end of the conduit that a previous electrician had left open and that hed allowed the water to get into the outlet. I paid the hourly fee, the service fee and $30 for installed part, for a total of $130. I could probably have done this myself with a couple hours' work and spending $20 at Home Depot, but I didn't know how to diagnose the problem and I'm not messing around with electricity! Jim Hess was polite, professional, friendly, and earnest. I will definitely call him again when electrical work is required.

He showed up on time, and worked throughout the day and did exactly what he said he would do. He was a pleasure to work with as he is personalable, sincere, and just all around seems like a good guy. I would definitely use him again, and would recommend him to anyone looking for electrical work.
Description of Work: Called to ask for a quote to redo wiring to my family room, remove junction boxes (from knob and fuse days) as well as install a new switchbox installed. Jim called me back within an hour to schedule an estimate. He came, took his time (in a positive way) to understand exactly the work that needed to be done. I received a quote later that night. It was right on point within my budget and my expectations.

It's obvious that Expo Electric is not dependable. And in this economy, I am astonished that any contractor/provider is not eager for work. I'd still entertain having them contact me & set up an appointment, but honestly, why would I trust them to do a reliable job should they provide a competitive bid?
Description of Work: I contacted Expo Electric on February 22nd. Like with other Electrical contractors I found on Angie's List, I sent a very detailed explanation regarding the service(s) for which I was inquiring. After 10 days (March 3rd) & no response, I contacted them again & gave them a 2nd chance to respond. I included in that 2nd contact that if I did not hear from them again, I would not be contacting & asking for an appointment/estimate for my substantial electrical project.

I was very impressed with Jim Hess / Expo Electrical. Jim came out to take a look at my electrical panel the same day that I contacted him about the job. He sent an estimate within 24 hours. His estimate was comparable to others, and he has a coupon on Angie's List. While all of this was wonderful, I was most impressed that he was willing to come out and do the job for me on President's Day so that I wouldn't have to take a day off of work. That is the most exemplary customer service that I have ever experienced. I will definitely use this company again for future electrical needs.

Jim came out to give an estimate of the work that needed to be done. We wanted the work done properly with permits. We were replacing the old knob and tube in a bathroom. Jim did not come out and spend 5 minutes looking at things - to give me a quick estimate. Jim took his time and looked at not only what needed to be done in the bathroom - but he also looked at the whole house electrical. He was here for a couple of hours (about 2) - even looked in the attic for possible problems. (We were very happy with his throughness.) It was decided that to update our bathroom the fuse box needed to be replaced. Jim and a coworker came out later in the month to replace the fuse box and update the bathroom outlets. It took about a day - but we were happy with the time spent. Jim is very friendly and professional. We will def. use him a again in the future for any electrical problems we may have. Thanks jim.

I called Jim and described the problem and he came out a few hours later. I knew there was a problem with an individual breaker but several other electricians tried to sell me an entire $2400 service. Jim was very honest and straightforward with me and did not try to sell me anything I didn't need. His price was also very reasonable. I will recommend Expo to all my friends and family and will definitely use them in the future. Thanks Jim!

I orginally found Expo Electrical Technologies on Angie's list. Was 1 of 3 estimates in October. Expo Electrical Technologies was the most reasonably priced based on checking with a friend who is a union electrician and several relatives who are familiar with electrical work. Jim Hess took the time to answer all my questions and explained all the work in simple terms. I also liked the fact that he had worked on older homes like mine. He was also the only one to follow up several times. I orignally decided to wait on the upgrades, but then decided in November that I wanted them completed. I called Jim back & he responded immediatley. His company also works with the Illuminating Company, so I was able to get 48 months interest free payments which was another big reason why I also selected Jim & Expo Electrical Technologies . Jim came on that Tuesday after that horrible snow storm . . . . he worked all day in the garage since I had to have the plumber come that same day. I added the back flood lights last minute and he said no problem, even though it added more time outside in the cold- I have a detached garage- so it was cold! Jim made sure that he cleaned up and was apologetic for getting my throw rugs dirty- which was not a problem becuase that is why I had them. He and a member of his team cleaned up the entire laundry room floor after they were done, made sure the bathroom was all clean. Jim completed all the work in 3 days. He is very professional, personable & prompt. I would highly recommend Jim Hess & Expo Electrical Technologies.
