1st Response Pest Management

We've had an annoying bed bug problem for over a year now. After a failed chemical treatment, I joined Angie's list in search of a highly rated pest management provider. Everything from 1st response was top notch. From the initial phone call, to the inspection, to the actual treatment. They were quick to respond, answer questions, and the treatment went as expected. The time it took to prepare was quite long since we had a ton of clutter. I think it was time well spent to ensure the treatment would be as successful as possible. They heated the house to over 130-140 degree's and kept it there for 3-4 hours. From what I've read, this seems to be the best way to eradicate all the bed bugs. We returned home hours after the treatment and the house was still well over 100 degree's. It took several hours before it wasn't a heatwave anymore. Nothing was damaged during the treatment. It's been over 3 weeks now and still no sign of bites, fecal or blood stains. Thank heavens for 1st response! It's nice to sleep at night without worrying about what's crawling around in my bed.

I left a message via their website on a weekend, and received a call back the following Monday. They were booked up and very busy, but able to schedule me for the next week on Tuesday. They called back on Friday to confirm the appointment, which was a very narrow 11:30-12:30 window. They arrived promptly at 11:35. The technician was extremely nice and courteous. The work was performed quickly, as well as a visual inspection of the rest of the house. Since the infestation was in a very small area, the actual cost was $50-$100 LESS than the original estimate (which I had thought was very reasonable.) The technician told us that the stuff he had sprayed could have fallen to the area below, and suggested that we keep our dogs inside for an hour or two, after which it would be safe for them. Before leaving, he said that if we see any evidence of bees after a week, to call them back and they would re-treat for free. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH NICE THINGS ABOUT THIS COMPANY!

We called 3 other pest services and the others would not remove wasp nests especially those on a second story. Our first call was on Monday with this company. Lisa was friendly, informative, and helpful. They were able to come out to our house on Wednesday and gave us a time frame and Chris was on time, friendly and professional. The estimate Lisa provided over the phone without seeing what was involved was right on. Chris went the extra mile to do a little extra spraying to combat the bees. I have never had to use an exterminator before so it was a sticker shock but after calling around I felt they offered more than the other competitors and came in cheaper. Very friendly and professional. Overall, excellent service!

My experience was good. They came when they said they will. They will also come back later to inspect their work and their prices are good. I would recommend them to others.

The service I received from the first call to the final service was excellent. I was very concerned about the termites and the damage they were creating. The office manager was very helpful and reassured me they could take care of the problem. Jay (the owner) actually did the estimate and the treatment; we have not seen any signs of termites since. I feel confident in the work he and his team performed and I would strongly recommend his services.

All responses were prompt and courteous. Jay came to our home to give us an estimate, and he was so professional and nice. He explained the treatment well, and we set up an appointment for the treatment while he was there. Three technicians arrived promptly on the appointed day and immediately got to work. They were clean, professional, and very nice. There was no odor in my home from their spraying. Best of all, the bugs are completely gone.

Chris said he would spray around the house not to let insects & bugs, but took off after spraying inside/basement. He did spray some area on the front porch, but not around the house as it was promised. I am very disappointed with work done and hesitant to trust Angies's list reviews and purchase any deals in future. When I called today(08/01/2013) I was told that I need to schedule another inspection and pay money though they didn't do it righ the first time. So I changed my rating form Bad to Lousy.

We've had mice in our attic, garage and basement on occasion in the past. We started having 1st Response come out to set 'traps", They rebait the stations every 6 months - we have NOT had mice since!

Technician came out, applied treatment, and ten days later no ants have been seen.

Went very well. Showed up and asked questions to assess what was needed. Looked around the basement and decided it was best to spray external to the house and in the basement.

It was a good experince. They were professional, polite, & efficient.

Good service and took the time to explain the process. Noticed our rain barrel and pointed out as a precaution that we may want to refrain from using them until rain has flowed through gutters.

We are out-of-state landlords of a home in Columbus where our son and friends are renters. We were NOT happy to hear that the boys thought there were bedbugs in one bedroom--yucky. My dealings with First Response from start to finish were thorough and professional. The office gave me all the basic info about what would be done if bedbugs were found during free inspection. It is quite a process to prepare the house before treatment can begin, and the boys were well-informed about what they had to do. We were glad they use heat treatment rather than chemicals. They were able to get us on their schedule quickly, and so far the treatment has worked. We would definitely use them again for any type of pest management.

Would recommend this company to anyone with a pest problem.

Chris showed up right on time. We were able to get out of the house and on about our business. He & Jay spent about an hour and a half fogging, spraying, and baiting our home for cockroaches. In just the first 24 hours the change was dramatic. They are returning this week and every two weeks for a while until the nasty bugs are gone.

The company was excellent from start to finish, and at all levels of the organization. We had an unusual problem: we moved lots of different boxes and storage bins from a country location to our home in Columbus, and were concerned that there were pests within the boxes. It would have taken a very long time to open all the boxes and check through them. Jay was very helpful in thinking through the problem carefully before taking any action, and working with us to make sure we were comfortable with the solution. We decided with his guidance to fog the basement containers since they were of most concern and we didn't want poisonous spiders coming out of the boxes and into the main part of the house. For the basement and garage (where other boxes were), Jay laid down a barrier to keep vermin from exiting the basement/garage, and then set up rodent bait in case there were rodents in the boxes we had moved. It's worth noting that the entire staff was great, working with us on good appointment times as well.

We originally bought a Big Deal on Angie's List but once the owner came to the house, it was obvious I needed more than what the big deal provided. Boy was he right. I am a little leery of the up-sale, but in this case, he knew exactly what he was talking about! We moved into a foreclosed home that had been vacant for a long while before we took ownership. As a result we had problems in almost every area of pest control. The team has been to my house to readdress problems as they arise, and the appointments are always available. They are prompt and professional, and I rarely see a pest. Going into this, I knew it would take a while for our little pests to get under control. I always felt comfortable with the guys coming to the house, especially with my toddler and large dog. They are the utmost definition of professional and really simply stated, nice!! It might be a little more than you would want to spend on pest treatment upfront, however, I can guarantee you it works and you wont be disappointed. Yes a one time treatment might rid you of those pesky ants, but I had ants pop up in several locations around my house at several different times, all of which were covered under my package. We had silver fish, centipedes, spiders... you name it. And everytime they have made a reappearance, I called and for free the guys returned to help me out! Well done 1st Response!!!

Performed as expected but more costly than desired.

1st Response Pest Management does a great job. I had noticed bees & wasps around the house and bouncing off the siding and I wanted to get rid of them. 1st Response recommended a plan where they come out 4 times a year to treat the whole exterior of the house to keep out not only the bees/wasps but any other pests too. They always call the day before to let me know when they'll be coming out. They did the final treatment in October.

I was concerned about spraying around my granddaughter and small dog but they assured me the stuff they used was safe.

We had some conflicting signs that a guest may have brought bedbugs to our house. Many companies offer bed bug services. 1st Response seems to have the most capability, using (contracted) dogs, and both heat and chemical treatments. Two technicians showed up and spent almost an hour looking over our house and talking to me about possible scenarios. They ultimately didn't find anything, and they didn't charge me for their time. They offered their ongoing spray services for other types of spiders, etc., which I'm still considering.

Company was hired and came out to remove multiple wasp nests that were along the roof line of my home. I mentioned on the phone when setting up the appointment that my house was two story and they would need a very tall ladder to get to some of the nests. They came out on time for the appointment, and removed the nests they could. Unfortunately, the technician did not bring a tall enough ladder, but promised to return within a few days to remove the rest. And they did come back out and finish the job after that. No complaints.
