jeff came and gave a much lower quote than the other provider we contacted, and he was much less of a "salesman". we really trusted him right off the bat, and our instincts were right on. he did a great job over 3 days removing the carpet and refinishing the floors. he was able to finish a day earlier than planned (after all 3 coats), so that was very welcome news. really professional, and, at least as importantly, he did a fantastic job on the floors.

Our hardwood floors were in pretty rough shape from years of neglect, cleaning with harsh cleaners, water damage, and some pet stains. Jeff provided great service from start to finish. He was able to schedule an estimate at a time that was convenient for us. He did a thorough job of explaining the process he would use, and made sure he answered all of our questions. When it came for the work to be done, Jeff did a great job with sanding and applying three coats of finish. He left the work area neat, and kept in contact with us along the way about how things were progressing. We really think that his expertise, along with the dustless equipment he uses, was worth the slightly higher cost compared to some other estimates. He also applied three coats of finish, while other estimates included only two coats. Our thought is that when you have this done you are going to live with the results for a long time, and we are certainly happy with the work of Hardwood Elegance. In fact, we've already scheduled with Jeff to do the rest of the hardwood floors in our home.

Prompt, and professional, Jeff stood out from the other companies that we obtained an estimate from for his honesty and not trying to nickle and dime us with extraneous "dust collection" charges. He was very thorough with the type of results that we could expect and explained the process in detail. We had the advantage of having just bought our house so we did not have to move any furniture for the week long process (3 or so days of work and a few days for the urethane poly to dry). Our floors probably hadn't been refinished since the 50's when they were installed, though pet and major damage was minimal. We are extremely happy with how our floors turned out. They poly smell did hang around for awhile, but it was nothing more than a minor annoyance for about a month after we moved in. Well worth the results and have suggested his services to friends and family.

Jeff was punctual and kept me well informed during the process. Our living room floor was in rough shape and I wasn't sure how it would turn out. I am extremely pleased with all four rooms. Also, with the process he uses when sanding, dust was not a problem. I would definitely recommend this company for hardwood refinishing(service provided for me) and would not hesitate to use them again. I'm not very computer savy so if I can figure out how to move pictures to this site I will show the before, during and after pictures of the room I was concerned about.

Jeff is awesome. There is really nothing else to say. He does great work and would like him to work on future homes. To all the people that have given him poor reviews because he hasn't called you back: he's busy because he's really good at what he does, and doesn't use subs to ruin his good name.

I called 2 times on 9/30/13 and 10/1/13 and each times left a message to call me. It's now 10/4 and no one has contacted me. I would not use an unreliable, unresponsive contractor.

He was prompt and extremely knowledgeable. Hardwood flooring was not the best option for our project, and he was very honest about telling us why. We appreciated his honesty and insight very much.

Jeff provided an estimate for the work effort. Bob completed the work when we were out-of-town which made it convenient for both of us. Bob did a beautiful restoring oak hardwood floors that had not been touched in 21 years. Also, our home layout involved lots of corners and angles (apparently not easy to refinish). Bob did a great detail job working on floors with these issues. We thank them for making our home floors beautiful again. A couple contractors who performed other types of work in our home complimented us on our floors - FYI.

Jeff and Hardoowd Elegance Flooring was fantastic. This is probably my best experience with a provider on Angie's List. Our floors were in very rough shape. We had two German Shepherds and young children and the floors showed it. Jeff came out and gave us an estimate. It was slightly higher than some of the other estimates, but it included a system of sanding the floors that did not leave a lot of dust. I admit I was a little suspect, but the system worked great. There was very little dust throughout the house, and the floors looked great. Also, Jeff set up the system so we wouldn't have to remove the molding on our floors. The molding was old so I was very concerned about having to remove it. Also, Jeff gave me great advice on how to move the furniture in and out so as not to scratch the floors. Worked like a charm. I can't say enough good things about the experience. Great job.!!!!!!

This was as good as it gets when dealing with contracted service. Jeff promptly showed up to provide an estimate and was able to squeeze my project into his busy schedule. His equipment left virtually no dust and the transformation of the floors is amazing. I highly recommend him for any of your hardwood floor needs - professional, prompt and took extra time to fix the floors as if it were his own home.

When he said he was coming at a specific time for the proposal, he was there. He was very specific about what he felt needed to be done. He had the proposal to me that afternoon and he scheduled it the next day. He was phenomenal. He told me exactly what needed to be removed, exactly what they would do and what I could expect. I thought he was excellent. It sounds like they are very thorough. Their price is right in the ballpark. He is a no nonsense guy. He reminds me of a physician. He is very straight forward.

I called Hardwood Elegance around June 6 to schedule an appointment for an estimate for refinishing my floors. Jeff said he'd get back to me by June 10 to let me know when he could come out. He never called so I contacted him again on June 19, at which time he said he'd come out the next day at 11:30. He never showed up. Being busy and not able to make an appointment is understandable, but a phone call advising me of that would have been appreciated.

Jeff showed up exactly when scheduled to estimate the job and the same for starting and completing the work. He worked with us given that the initial plan was to let the damaged floor dry for sanding. That did not work because ca. 1927 design includes a layer of tar paper that had trapped the moisture. You have to know where to look to identify the new flooring. The floors look great and having three new coats of varnish they can now be kept clean. We felt that he had underestimated the amount of work and material required for the damaged floor but when asked about that he said he had given the estimate and no changes were in order. The unit was rented shortly after this work and the floors received very positive comments from everyone including the eventual new tenants.

Never called me back, no more details needed, I found another company and used them

We were extremely pleased with the work that was done. Jeff came over and did a good job of thoroughly inspecting the work that needed to be done which included fixing a huge squeek and uneven portion of the subfloor in the entry. We discussed the best way to take care of this problem, Jeff then emailed an estimate, and was able to schedule most of the work while we would be out of town. We had obtained 3 other estimates for this job, but decided to go with Hardwood Elegance because we liked the equipment and products they used, the 3 coats of polyurethane with sanding between coats, and felt they would be the ones to best address our squeeky floor. The price was very fair for the amount of work we had done. Bob was the person who did the actual work on our floors, and he is a true craftsman who takes extreme pride in his work and it really shows. Bob started the work a few days before we left on vacation and I could tell how particular he was about everything he did. He was extremely patient while showing us 6 samples of different stains on our floor so we could pick out what we wanted. The staining and polyurethane was done while we were gone, and he worked every day and was able to finish on schedule before we returned. He even said he had some extra time and painted the new shoe molding in the rooms with the new hardwood floor which was something above and beyond what was in the contract. (All of the contracts we received had us responsible for painting this molding ourselves.) As suggested by Jeff, part of the job included pulling up a small amount of the entry flooring in order to have continuous pieces of flooring into the living room and dining room on either side of the entry. The new flooring now flows flawlessly with the old and looks like it has always been there. When we returned from vacation, we were blown away by how nice the hardwood floors looked. In addition, there was virtually no dust from the process. If you contact Jeff at Hardwood Elegance Flooring, I would suggest the best way by far to get a hold of him is by phone.

We have lived in our house for 12 years and have always had carpet. After a recent kitchen remodel we decided to have the floors refinished. Called Jeff and out of the three companies I called he was the only one to answer the phone and actually call me back. Jeff is pro and took less then 15 minutes to a**** my floors. Got the estimate back a couple days later and was very pleased with the price. Jeff had a cancellation the following week so they came out to do the work. Bob was the actual serviceman who did the work and he was extremely nice and professional. Project took about four days: one to sand, first coat of stain, second coat of stain and then sealer. Because we couldn't walk on the floor while drying we left for a few days. When I came back that weekend was blown away how good the floor looked. They definitely brought it back from the dead and I'm very happy. I did notice a few spots they needed filled so I contacted Jeff. Bob called me the very next morning and made arrangements to come out the next day to fix it. Great company with great service!

Jeff removed the carpet and padding then sanded the floors with two kinds of sanders and then did the edges with a hand held sander. Jeff rather than just going back and forth also goes across to help make sure the floor is as level and smooth as possible. We have slate in frontof the fireplace and Jeff took care in making sure that wsn't scratched or damaged. After all the sanding is done Jeff puts on a coat of polyurathane and then comes back the next day and sands again and then puts on another coat and the third coat is done the same way. Jeff is a professional in every sense of the word. He takes pride in his work and knows his craft well.We had these floors done because we are going to sell the house but after we move we will be having Jeff do the floors at our new house.

I purchased an older 1958 home that had been neglected by the previous owner. I immediately removed the shag carpeting and was happy to discover oak tongue and groove flooring hidden underneath. However, with that I also found areas of water damage, high traffic, stains from carpet padding, and worn stair treads. I also had an area that would require installation of new wood (after expanding a kitchen doorway) and a section of flooring that was never finished with polyurethane (uncovered after I removed a shelf/divider in the front entryway). I contacted Jeff to schedule an appointment for a quote. He came out, answered questions, was very thorough when describing the process, and provided a quote in a timely fashion. After meeting Jeff I was confident that he would be able to meet my expectations. I thought about obtaining quotes from other companies (as I do with all other home improvement projects) but decided to move forward with Jeff based strictly on his character and the great reviews on Angie's List. He put me on his schedule and arrived on the date that was promised. Jeff did an AMAZING job on my floors. I'm an extremely picky individual but couldn't be any more happy with the results. I must admit that I chuckled to myself when he explained the "dustless" process and claimed that I wouldn't know he had been sanding in my home... but he was spot on. The only noticeable trace was the smell of the polyurethane - that's all. Jeff is a true craftsman. He cares about his trade, is honest, and didn't try to rip me off. Jeff's pricing is more than fair for the quality that he delivers. I've already recommended Jeff to two other individuals.

He took great attention to detail. He was prompt, polite, and neat. After I accepted his bid, we scheduled the work about 4 weeks out. A few days before work was supposed to start, I contacted him and confirmed that he would be coming as scheduled -- because I didn't want to move all my furniture if he couldn't start on time. (I hired Copley Moving company to help me move all of my first floor furniture out to my detached garage and to my basement - I was very satisfied with them too.) There turned out to be NO DUST at all. There was odor from the finish, which he warned me about at bid time, but our family is not particularly sensitive to chemical odors and it didn't bother us. All of the stains and discoloration came out beautifully. My floors look brand new, only better because they have a beautiful patina of age. They turned out more beautifully than I had hoped. I would not hesitate to hire him again or to recommend Jeff Hough for hardwood refinishing. He also installs new hardwood flooring, and I wouldn't hesitate to hire him for that either, now that I have seen his professionalism and attention to craftsmanship. The only thing he did that was not perfect wasthat he was slow getting back to me with his price after he came to my house to measure. He was always prompt about returning phone calls/texts, but he is slow about doing paperwork like sending written estimates and invoices. After he came to my house to measure, I had to phone/text several times to tell him that I hadn't received his bid via email until I finally got it. I almost didn't hire him for this reason, but I am glad that I decided in the end to hire him.

We used Hardwood Elegance about 10 years ago to refinish our hardwood floors in our former home. Our floors in our present home needed to be refinished and we contacted Jeff for an estimate. We were planning a trip for the 1st week in March. Since it was necessary for us to be out of the house for much of the time the work was being done, scheduling was critical. Jeff was very accommodating and arranged for the work to be done while we were gone. The actual work was done by Jeff's partner Bob who had also done the work on our previous home. The process was labor intensive and begin with sanding the floors to remove all traces of the existing finish. They use machines that emit very little dust and when the work was completed there was a very light coating of dust on our furniture. Once the sanding was complete, Bob put down liquid samples of stain on the floor. He put down about 15 different ones for us to choose from. We made the choice just before we left on our trip. The floors were stained with the proper color and Bob applied 3 coats of finish. Floors look great!. Bob also applied a coat of finish to 3 staircases and refinished a landing leading to our lower level. We have a refrigerator that dispenses water and makes ice, and Bob ran a new stainless steel line so that there would be no leaks. We are extremely pleased with the final result and the professionalism of Bob and Jeff. We would recommend Hardwood Elegance to anyone needing to have hardwood floors refinished.

I called a number of floor refinishers for estimates and some came out and othrs never responded. When I called jeff he came out on time and gave me the estimate and had several suggestions how to do the entire job. We have a ranch with a long hallway and three bedrooms off he hallway, a large great room and an office. Jeff suggested we do the hallway and the three bedrooms first and then do the great room and the office at another time (which we are having done in two weeks). This way we would not have to be out of the house for an entire week. The work that Jeff does in just unbeliveable and you can easily understand how he has been a super service winner all these years in a row. The floors are much better than we ever thought and the process is almost dust free. We have Jeff coming back to do the great room and office in a couple of weeks.

We recently had the hardwood floors in our 85 year old Clintonville home refinished and we must say that the results exceeded our expectations. (And that is not a phrase we frequently use.) We contacted and had quotes from several companies, however, we were most impressed with what Jeff at Hardwood Elegance told us what he could do, and what we should expect. I would recommend them highly. The first coat came out a little light for our taste, so he adjusted the color for the next coat. It turned out fine.

I contacted Jeff in November after researching flooring companies on Angies List and he met me within the week to look at the job. He was one of the most honest contractors I've ever dealt with. He took a lot of time to explain the process and what to expect and told me he wouldn't be available until after Christmas. I noticed the comment that someone made about his unresponsiveness and I would like to mention that his company is very small. He doesn't have an office or staff to answer phones. He told me up front that if he didn't respond right away to any questions I might have, to please call him again. He refinished the floors this past week and they are absolutely beautiful. I had no idea they would turn out as nice as they did. Jeff takes the time to do the job right and his workmanship is high quality. I would definitely recommend him.
