Excellent service! I received a timely response to my call as well as a quick and reasonably priced quote. The job was done on time and most importantly done right! I had a bad experience with a largely known company on the house I owned prior, but from beginning to end with Browns Roofing I was extremely satisfied and will be using them for all my future roofing, gutter, or siding needs!

Unfortunately the needed repair was noted the day we were leaving for a week long vacation so all of the arrangements needed done over the phone. After being told that simply replacing the damaged portion could not be done I asked for an estimate to have the vent replaced. We were given an estimate which included 'repair of damaged ridge vents' and replacement of cap shingles at $600. After speaking with DAN over the phone about the estimate we agreed to have the work done - we knew our area was experiencing record rainfall and just wanted to ensure we didn't incur water damage. DAN emailed me a receipt and a note that the work was completed, but unfortunately they had to place a different type of vent on our home as the one we had prior was no longer made - reasonable and not a big deal. Once home though we realized that they had simply spliced in a ~3 foot piece of new vent and replaced the cap shingles. Needless to say, the 2 very different brands/types of vents now spanning our roof looks pretty awful - a fix most homeowners wouldn't approve of or appreciate ... especially at $600. So, I called Dan assuming their had to have been a misunderstanding. Surely 30 minutes of labor (Given to me by Dan over the phone when I asked how long the job took) along with a ~3 foot piece of vent + shingles wouldn't have cost me $600. I was told he had never stated that the entire vent would be replaced, only a section and because our roof had a 60/40 pitch the price was acceptable. I reminded him that the estimate was for 'replacement of damaged ridge vent' and he said it was for a 'section' and I clarified that this was not the case to which he agreed. Looking at prices the product put on our roof couldn't have cost more than $50, and that's a stretch. So, $550 for 30 minutes work seems to be unreasonable, especially for something that now looks pretty awful ... even for a 60/40 pitch. Bottom line is we feel as though we were taken advantage of. We probably should have gotten multiple estimates. We have no idea if this is reasonable but it seems unlikely - We'll probably never know. From our conversations it seemed clear that repairing the small section wasn't an option, yet that is what was done. If you deal with Dan Brown roofing be careful and very clear about what you feel needs done and what will be done and get other estimates of course. From other reviews the company seems to do good work, but our family was definitely deceived - hopefully yours won't be.

Response from Brown's Roofing
Browns Roofing replaced a damaged section of ridge vent and replaced damaged and missing shingles for this customer. This customer requested that we reuse the old damaged ridge vent as a way to save money. Browns Roofing explained that the vent and shingles were damaged and could not be reused. Browns Roofing also explained that the existing ridge vent was no longer made and to guarantee a perfect match the entire vent should be replaced. The customer declined. The customer wanted only what was necessary to stop his leaks done. After the repairs were complete and the leaks fixed the customer tried to renegotiate price. Browns Roofing did exactly what this customer wanted and because we were not willing to lower our price after the fact this customer is attempting to use this review as a way to slander our business. Sad.

Very well, Dan was one of the most professional contractors I have dealt with in a while and he seemed very knowledgeable. It was suppose to be a 2 day job but turned out to be 3 days but that was only because one of the workers was sick and Richard worked by himself the first day. In spite of the bad weather at times, he still did a very good job. I was very happy with the results and would not hesitate to use them again. I wish I had gotten an estimate on gutters before I had them done by someone else because I'm sure it would have been a better deal.

This was a good experience given our circumstances. I received several estimates for repair of our roof. There were quotes that were in the range of Mr. Brown's quote and some under and over. I chose Mr. Brown as he explained completely the causes and extent of the repair/replacement that we needed and why. He did not try to over charge us. He took the time with us that we needed and was very prompt with answers to our questions. His crew that did the work were very pleasant to work with and very respectful of our home. I would highly recommend Brown's roofing to others if they were looking for a company to do quality work and be respectful. He was always prompt and our work was completed when it was expected to be. This company does quality work.

I met with Danny Brown to inspect our roof and assess the storm damage. Danny worked with our insurance company's budget to remove and replace our roof. They showed up when scheduled, removed the old roofing, and had the entire roof replaced by the time I returned home from work. I walked around our home looking for scraps of old shingles, wrappers, anything. They left our home immaculate. Danny personally followed up after the work was completed to make sure we were satisfied with the work and to deliver our warranty package. Danny Brown is very courteous, knowledgeable, professional and honest. Brown's Roofing receives my highest recommendation and we have referred him to family and friends needing roofing work performed.

Brown's Roofing's estimate was between two of the other estimates I received. A couple days after giving me the estimate Brown called and asked for the job, so I agreed. On one of the coldest days of the year, I heard banging noises on the roof. The crew showed up to work and was chipping the ice off the roof. In the spring, I asked my ex-husband to come by and take a look at the roof because some of the ridge vent on one area was starting to lift. While checking out the roof, he noticed that there wasn't any drip edge under the shingles. I called Mr. Brown to come take a look at the ridge vent. When he arrived, he seemed annoyed that I was bothering him. He nailed the ridge vent down with huge, round, green nails....it looked absurd. When I asked him about the drip edge, he told me that when my house was built in 1987, drip edge was not a building code requirement and since it didn't originally have drip edge, he didn't have to install it when replacing the roof. Since I didn't ask for drip edge, he didn't include that in the estimate. Heck, I didn't even know what drip edge was, nor did I know that I had to request it. About three years later, my roof started to buckle, so I had another company come to replace it.

Took one week from signing and paying a deposit to the the actual work. Was estimated at around two weeks so I was pleasantly surprised. The crew did a great job and left without a trace besides some very minor debris from the old gutter (dead leaves and dirt). That was no problem though. A few weeks before this, a piece of fascia (about 10 feet long) blew off from beneath the half hanging gutter. I put this in my garage and let it slip my mind. It didn't come back to me until after they had completed the job and I looked up to see a 10 foot section of brand new fascia board exposed beneath my brand new gutter. It kind of annoyed me that I was never contacted during the job to see if I wanted it replaced and added to my bill or even brought to my attention. And it wasn't until I was called several days later to set up the follow up inspection, at the end of the call when I brought it up, before the owner even recognized that this might be an issue. And he did know exactly what I was talking about when I first mentioned it. During the follow up inspection, I asked how much it would cost to put that piece of fascia up or put a new piece on. He guided me around the house eyeing it down thoroughly. He pointed out a piece of siding that was slightly bubbled out and offered to rehang that while he did the fascia, for $500. For $50 more, he would touch up three more minor siding bubbles he noticed and a an eschew piece of soffit he found on the other side of the house. Overall, the job went smoothly and the quality of work looks very good. The only annoyance would be that 10 foot missing piece of fascia and compounding that, is that to fix it (along with rehanging a piece or two of siding), it would cost me over 70% of price to tear it all down again, get another 35' of brand new gutter, two new downspouts and 35' of fascia board all ripped out and reinstalled.
Description of Work: Replaced approximately 35 feet of gutter and rotted fascia board underneath, as well as two downspouts.

Apparently there is some confusion. The new gutter would not have to be replaced to do additional repairs . The estimate in question includes numerous repairs to lose siding, soffit and missing fascia wrap.

I am writing a rebuttal to the response Dan Brown wrote after I commented on why I would never use him again. He stated that he told me he was going to take legal action against me if I didn't pay the 144.00 dollars I still owed him. That is a bold face lie. Not once, during his messages did he state that to me. After my roof was put on I still needed new gutters. I realized I would not have the money until August 1 to pay him. I ask if we could put the gutters on hold till then. He said that he had already ordered them and that I couldn't wait. I told him I would not have the money until then and so he took a post dated check for 600 and some dollars. I said please do not accidentally cash this before that date and he assured me he would not. Then I am checking my bank account and the check had been cashed. I called him and he said his wife " accidentally" cashed the check. I was very upset. I couldn't put a stop payment on it because it was pending. We went back and forth for about 30 minutes on the phone and I ask if he could knock 50 dollars off the remaining 144.00 I owed him and he would not budge. He made the mistake and wouldn't give even a little. Things like this has happened to me before and most businesses would rather do a little something than have the customer upset. I do not care what he comes back and says about this. It is the truth. And the 144 dollars he claims he said he was going to take legal action about. I paid on August 15. I guess I was trying to give him a little piece of his own medicine. Apparently he didn't like that too much. If anybody decides to use him, just be careful.

Browns Roofing was one of the most professional businesses I have dealt with to date for repairs done on my home. Mr. Brown himself came out and inspected the issues we had with the gutters and rotted siding. He was very thorough and courteous. His pricing beat out all competitors and he took a very honest approach. What I appreciated most was the fact that he didn't try up-selling me as so many of these companies do by finding things that aren't in need of repair and trying to convince me otherwise. His crew came out and had the job done in a timely manner. The clean up of his crew was impressive and the quality of work was excellent. All together I was incredibly pleased and have recommended this company and will continue to.

Terrible. Nothing but problems. Our roof is worse than ever after spending huge amount of money. And will have interior repairs to pay for also.
Description of Work: Brown Roofing replaced our rubber roof after we were having a small leak (the roof was old at the time). After the roof was replaced, we began having horrible problems, BIG leaks, leaks in various areas, etc. Dan Brown kept telling us it was "not the roof" blaming our house siding and gutters (they had never been a problem before). After several calls, he agreed to come out and "inspect" the roof. He caulked a few places, and said it was "not the roof that was leaking". Our problems continued and got worse. Dan came back out and said we should replace the gutters and downspouts; we hired him to to do this at a price of $1120. We now have huge leaks and extensive ceiling and structural damage to the inside of the house. One of the gutters completely fell off the house when ice and snow filled it this winter. I have since learned that he installed 6" gutters but improperly spaced the support brackets/insufficient number of them to support the gutter. We are now having to tear off the entire roof and start over, replace and repair fallen and faulty gutters, as well as perform major repairs and painting to the inside of the house. There are other major issues related to the improper installation of the roof and gutters which we are documenting in our upcoming attempt to get our money back.

Response from Brown's Roofing
The allegations contained in this review are not accurate. Allow me to provide a little history. On 6-8-12 Browns Roofing met this customer for the first time to inspect a leak, that several roofing company's had tried unsuccessfully to repair. The customer showed us extensive interior water damage. Browns Roofing inspected the exterior of the home above the water damage. Browns Roofing found a total of 6 different problems. #1 old rubber roof, #2 old slate roof, #3 old siding, #4 old windows, #5 old gutters and #6 an old door that was framed to sit directly on the rubber roof. Browns Roofing explained to the customer that items #1 thru #5 needed replaced and that #6 the old door needed completely removed. Browns Roofing explained that you can't have a door frame sit directly on a rubber roof or water can run back in the home. Browns Roofing wrote the customer several different estimates. The customer said they were getting other estimates and would let us know. On 6-25-12 The customer hired Browns Roofing to replace the rubber roof. Browns Roofing again advised the customer of the other 5 problems. The customer only wanted the rubber roof replaced. Browns Roofing replaced the rubber roof. In September of 2012 the customer called and said they had a problem with the new rubber roof. Browns Roofing met the customer the next day to inspect the rubber roof. Browns Roofing found a bullet (BULLET AS FROM A GUN) had damaged the new roof. Some person had shot this roof with a gun. Browns Roofing dug the bullet from the roof and repaired the roof. Browns Roofing gave the bullet to the homeowner. Browns Roofing did this repair for FREE. In February of 2013 the customer called Browns Roofing and said they had a leak in the rubber roof. Browns Roofing met the customer the next day the weather allowed to inspect the rubber roof. Browns Roofing found no problem with the rubber roof. Again Browns Roofing advised the customer of the 5 other problem areas. The customer felt the problem was the new rubber roof. Browns Roofing suggested a water test on the rubber roof, the customer agreed. With the customer on the roof supervising Browns Roofing used a garden hose to run large amounts of water on the rubber roof. Browns Roofing ran water on every square inch of the rubber roof for close to 1 hour. NO LEAK occurred . The customer said she would consider repairing the 5 problem areas. On 6-11-13 the customer hired Browns Roofing to replace some of the gutters. Again, Browns Roofing advised the customer of the 4 other problem areas. The customer only wanted some of the gutters replaced. Browns Roofing replaced four gutters and four downspouts. In February of 2014 the customer called and said they had an ice dam causing water to back in the house around the old door and the old siding . Before calling Browns Roofing the customer had someone get on the roof and remove snow and ice from the old door on the roof, the rubber roof, the slate roof and the gutters. In the process of removing ice from the gutters this person damaged a new gutter. The person that damaged this gutter told the homeowner that the gutter was installed wrong. The homeowner also told Browns Roofing they had someone scheduled to work on the old door (hopefully they remove it) and old siding. Browns Roofing told the homeowner we would replace the damaged gutter for FREE. Browns Roofing also told the homeowner that when the door and siding was removed we would install new rubber up the wall to connect to the rubber roof to prevent future ice dams from causing a water back up. Browns Roofing told the customer we would do this for FREE. The customer told us they would let us know if they went that route. Browns Roofing is very confident in its work, but also willing to address any actual problems with the rubber roof or gutters ( not the door, siding, windows or slate roof ) that can be identified. Browns Roofing stands ready, willing, and able to perform any required remedies.

I can't say enough good things about Brown's Roofing....it's so refreshing to have finally found an honest and professional roofing company that performs completed, quality work! Unfortunately the reason I hired Brown's Roofing was fix costly mistakes by another company who replaced my roof last year. This other company left me with an area of rotted fascia board, no drip edge or ice guard, and a gap between the roof and fascia allowing birds to enter my garage. Brown's Roofing took care of the entire problem, along with a few other areas that were in need of repair from the previous roofing company....all in less than a half day. I will definitely be recommending them to anyone I know looking for roofing or siding work...and plan to use them again in the future for siding. A big thanks to Dan Brown and his crew for a job well done!

I called Dan Brown (among others), apparent owner of Brown's roofing, after a recent storm. His business address is Amanda, which is about 10 minutes from my house. I like to support local business when I can and he had a few reviews on here that were pretty good. My neighbors had seen an area of my shingles blow up in the wind. Mr. Brown made an appointment to come the following Wednesday ( about 5 or 6 days ) and stated I needed to be there. Mr. Brown arrived Wednesday morning. He rang the door bell, which cracked and became stuck when he pushed it. The house was built in 2004 and the button was exposed to the elements, but to crack like that he had to really push it hard. Anyway, he then knocked and when I opened the door he was heading back to his truck. He asked, I would have to say, somewhat impatiently "is this....(my address)? (I should note that there was no house number visible--probably frustrating). He introduced himself as from Brown's Roofing and seemed somewhat impatient. We walked around the house and I showed him where I suspected the damage and explained what I was told. He said it looked fine (which it didn't, even to me) but that he would check it out. He got his ladder while I went looking for a screwdriver to remove the door bell button to stop it from buzzing. He went up on the roof, came down, and said there were just a few loose shingles and he could fix them while he was here. He also stated there was a $200.00 minimum charge. I asked some questions about the job and he seemed somewhat impatient. Not exactly rude, but not educational or particularly respectful either. He didn't seem interested in explaining anything and appeared hurried. Perhaps there was nothing to explain....Anyway, I asked if I could make a call and then let him know. He said that was okay. I made a final call to Custom Mobile Maintenance--Todd Collins, who had been here to look at the problem when I was not at home. We hadn't been able to connect by phone but I wanted to call him one last time as he was recommended by my insurance company. I got a voicemail so I signed the proposal with Mr. Brown, since he was here and I did not want any damage to the house if we were to get rain. He climbed back on the roof and, presumably, repaired the shingles. He stated that he put some new nails in and put some glue down (about 10 minutes). When I went outside to pay Mr. Brown I mentioned that I had seen him on Angie's List. He instantly became more polite. I asked him if he had checked the roof while he was up there (10 minutes, 200 bucks, uh, take a minute and look around). He stated that he kind of glanced at it (have to give him credit for being honest) and it was poor workmanship but he hadn't noticed anything glaring. I asked if there was any guarantee for his repair and he stated there wasn't unless I put on a new roof, which I did not need at this time. I went and got a check and he went and checked something on the side of the house where I'd thought the roof had come loose. He came back, took the check, and shook my hand (don't you do that when you meet people?), and left. Bottom line is this: You don't have to be my best friend, as long as you are respectful, educational, and do a good job. Mr. Brown's professionalism, in my experience, leaves much to be desired. Respectful---not really. Educational, uh, not really. Did a good job? Well, I'd like to think he did but his attitude concerned me enough that I'm going to have someone look at his work. Thanks to Angie's List that $200.00 isn't totally wasted. If you want to hire Brown's roofing, tell him up front you saw him on Angie's List. You'll get a different guy.

Response from Brown's Roofing
Browns Roofing knew this customer was an Angie's List member before we gave her an estimate, she told us on the phone. At no time was [member name removed] disrespectful in any way, he explained to the customer what was wrong with her roof, the method that would be used to repair the roof, the cost of the repair, the time it would take to complete the repair, and that based on the poor workmanship of her roof Browns Roofing would not give any warranty. All of these things were explained to the customer before the work was done. The door bell being damaged is news to us, the customer never said anything, and [member name removed] never heard the bell ring that's why he knocked on the door. However Browns Roofing will reimburse the customer any expense incurred from the repair of the door bell. The customer simply needs to mail us a receipt for the new bell and we will mail her a check.
