Overall it went very well. Jim was there each day at the set time and worked about 10 hours for 4 days and 5 hours on the last day. He returned our original call promptly and showed up at the set time. He gave us an estimate, sent a detailed contract and said he would call us within 2 weeks and set a date. Jim followed thru. Jim was very careful to cover the floors leading to the bathroom, contained the dust as best he could, and cleaned up each night before he left. He laid out a few different designs and helped us chose the best one. He had to cut about 5, 13inch tiles to fit the curve of the bathtub. He had to remove the wooden threshold and cut it so it would be the proper height to fit the tile height. The floor looks great. He also installed a new flange for the toilet, set the new toilet and cleaned up.
Description of Work: Remove existing mosaic tile floor, patched concrete, removed old toilet and installed new toilet, installed new tile floor.

Jim gave us an estimate and within days after I accepted the bid he was on the job. Jim prepared a small room (walls and ceiling) and one wall of a larger room for paint after we had hung drywall. The taping, mudding, and sanding was done expertly and quickly. He used a vacuum with the sander to minimize dust inside the house. The overall cleanup was good. The rooms turned out beautifully.

Very well. Jim initially thought he could lay the tile over the existing tile and mud floor in one bathroom. He quickly recognized that the mud floor had deteriated due to water damage. He adjusted his schedule to do the additional work. It ended up costing more due to the additional work, but I was glad that it was done right.
Description of Work: Replaced floors in two bathrooms with ceramic tile. Removed existing tile and mud floor in one bathroom and put down new plywood and membrane subfloor in one bathroom. Added membrane subfloor to the other bathroom. Replaced marble threshold in one bathroom. Added marble threshold in the other bathroom.

He arrived on time, removed part of the drywall to check for mold, re-taped and plastered over so the repairs can't even be detected. He swept and cleaned up entirely. One room required re-texturing the whole ceiling and looks just fine.
Description of Work: Mr. McGilvray checked for mold in the ceiling and repaired drywall in the kitchen and sunroom ceilings after water poured in with the heavy snow and ice dams in the winter. Repairs are invisible.

Our experience with JMAC went well from start to finish. Jim was prompt and well prepared when he came to give us an estimate. He had samples and brochures with him and gave us a list of the suppliers he uses. He said the project would be done in 2 weeks and stuck to that timetable. He was professional and personable throughout even though he worked long hours each day on our project. He laid cardboard and drop clothes to protect our carpeting and cleaned up at the end of each day. His work is excellent. He is a perfectionist and doesn't cut corners. We felt very comfortable having him in our house, and he was very helpful with some questions we had about our house above and beyond the bathroom project. We are very pleased with our new bathroom and happy to have someone to call for future repairs and renovations.
Description of Work: The second floor bathroom in our older Westpark home was updated. The tile and plaster walls around the tub/shower enclosure were removed from the tub deck to the ceiling and replaced with water-resistive drywall and a fiberglass shower surround. Our old tub was professionally refinished and new fixtures were installed. The walls and ceiling were patched, plastered and primed. Some of the removed tile was used for finish work. A vent fan and 2 switches were installed and an outlet was moved. A new toilet, sink, vanity, lights, mirror, and flooring were installed. Jim also fixed our front door, repaired an outlet in the living room that wasn't working and painted the new bathroom for us at minimal additional cost.

He always cleaned up after the days work. Jim was very trust worthy, as I was not home during the day while he was at my home, I never worried about him being in my home. Jim had the cabinets delivered to his home and brought them to my home when he needed them, which was a great help so I did not have boxes of cabinets everywhere. I am very pleased with my new kitchen.
Description of Work: My Kitchen was remodeled, I had old paneling removed and new dry wall installed, new cabinets, window, dishwasher. Jim was very professional and did very good work. He took his time and did the job right. Once he started the job, he did not leave until he the job was completed.

I called Jim in the middle of summer and he was very willing to do our many small jobs. He came over within a week, as promised, to hear about all we needed him to do. He was actually waiting in his truck before the time he said he would arrive so he wouldn't be early. He was very up front with us about the fact that he had several other jobs going on and that he had a vacation coming up and wouldn't be able to start until the first week of September. He called on the Tuesday after Labor Day to tell me that he would be starting on Thursday. We did not need to remind him at all about what we had asked him to do 8 weeks earlier. He came with all his supplies including our paint choices and completed the job in three visits. He always told us when he would return and arrived at the time and day he had given us. We were very pleased with the jobs he did and would hire him again and would gladly recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Jim painted shutters, replaced light bulbs that were way up under the eaves of out 2 story house, replaced two outdoor light fixtures, did touch up painting that wasn't finished by a previous painter and stained some interior wood work around a new door.

It went very well. Jim did great work, was there when he said he would be and cleaned up the finished area.
Description of Work: I had tile work done in a half bath on our first floor a number of years ago. The toilet was apparently leaking for a while and the flooring under some of the tile had rotted. Jim replaced the wood flooring under the tile from the basement. This eliminated the need to rip up the tile. He then reset the toilet. We were initially told by another individual that the tile would have to be ripped up and replaced. Jim saved us some money and did a great job.

We called Jim McGilvray from JMAC and he came out quickly to look at our wine rack. He came out at dinnertime, and when my husband suggested that he could take the wine rack down right away, he pulled it down very carefully. In about a week, he was back, carefully and perfectly installed the reconfigured wine rack. The wood looks perfect and the fit was exactly right. He's great and fun to talk to!!! We liked him very much.
Description of Work: JMAC removed a built in wine rack above my old refrigerator. I bought a new refrigerator and the wine rack didn't fit. He did a beautiful job downsizing the wooden wine rack and reinstalling it. It's perfect and he has a great personality, and is a pleasure to work with. I'll have him back for another job.

I've hired Jim before. He's punctual, professional and in my case (other than extensive "tear outs") does the work himself -- considering the less than satisfactory results I've had with unsupervised "trainees" doing work in my home -- this is a big plus factor for me.

We were impressed by his diligence. We had to delay the start date to accommodate out-of-state guests. But when we set a date, he showed up and worked hard. He told us ahead of time that he could do it in about three days, and that is how long he took. He was professional and neat.
Description of Work: Jim removed our old bathtub and surrounding walls. Installed and plumbed a new tub and installed plastic bathtub enclosure. Refinished walls above the enclosure, to ceiling. Cleaned and primed per his estimate. Installed shower rod and safety bars.

Jim did a great, thorough job. We love our bathroom. He was very pleasant to be around and is very interested and personable (not typical fix-up dude). He gave us an original quote, but we decided to add to the work by rewiring the light switch and add more drywall. He was very good about keeping the house clean, and had a cardboard 'walkway' from the door to the bath. He completed the work in the time promised though we added more work. He worked around a scared cat and small room.
Description of Work: Jim replaced our tub, took out rotting wood ledge and lower window frame, put new drywall walls and ceiling in whole bath (small room) and constructed a pillar around an odd-shaped corner. He replaced our floor and put a surround around the bath and window frame. He rewired our light switch to entry wall(which was previously on the cabinet mirror), moved a heating vent and added a ceiling exhaust fan going to the outside. He also created a special "trap door" to access bath plumbing from the closet in the other room, and installed new cabinet mirror and sink.

I couldn't have found better people to do the job than Jim and Bill. They were polite, friendly, on time, and great workers. They did superior work, and all in all, they made a bad situation just about as pleasant as you can get. I couldn't recommend them highly enough!
Description of Work: Two bathrooms were involved - a full and a half. Rotted out floors and joists had to be replaced. The cause of leaking had to be found, and flooring and floor coverings were replaced. A new shower stall, vanity and sick were installed. They also removed and replaced some drywall and added insulation under floors. The total job took about three weeks. Jim also built two entrance steps for me, that were included in the final cost.
