He took off the old tiles that were 4 feet high (from the floor), removed the bath/shower tile, filled all the holes, skim coated the walls for a smooth finish, installed tile in the bath/shower area, installed a single tub/shower faucet system, put in a new medicine cabinet, reworked the counter top, a new back splash, accent tile in shower area. He had good advice on what we could and couldn't do. Excellent work.

The work was done quickly and well. The price was fair. The quality of the work was high. It was a real pleasureto deal with Jim, owner of JMAC and his co-worker.Everything was cleaned up after the project and the debris was removed.
Description of Work: JMAC was called to re-do the bath, replace the sink, toilet, tub, surround, exhaust fan, and re-do the floor. The walls were taken down to the joists, the flloor was repaired where leaks from the toilet had softened the plywood. Pipes and shutoff leads were replaced. The walls were painted and a new linoleum floor was laid.

.When I called Jim he indicated that he had some time and could come out in two days. He would give us an estimated price and if we agreed he could start immediately. He called again to confirm his visit and arrived on time. He put us at ease with his description of the repairs needed and provided an estimated cost. We agreed and he and his associate started to work. The project took a day and a hlf. They did a great job cleaned up and gave us advice on what we needed to do before we painted.
Description of Work: The interior of our addition, at 17 x 25 room, had been papered and when we removed the paper the walls were in need of repair. This included cracks, scratches, corners that hadn't been taped, corners with the metal beading showing and areas that had not been finished well by the original builder.

JIM HAD COME OUT FOR AN ESTIMATE AND WE LIKED HIM & HIS HONESTY FROM THE START. WE HAD SOME WATER DAMAGE THAT LEFT OUR LIVING ROOM CEILING A MESS. THE REIVEWS FROM ANGIE'S LIST ABOUT JIM IS WHAT DREW ME TOWARDS HIM ESPECIALLY THE PART ABOUT HOW NEAT HE WAS. LETS FACE IT DRY WALL MAKES A MESS!! JIM & HIS HELPER DOUG STARTED THE JOB WHICH WAS SUPPOSE TO BE MAYBE 2 DAYS. HERE THEY FOUND A SPOT ON THE CEILING THAT WAS WET (MIND YOU THIS DAMAGE WAS 2 YEARS AGO) WE NEVER DREAMED THERE WAS ANYMORE MOISTURE IN THAT CEILING. JIM FOUND PLUMBLING PROBLEMS THAT WE NEVER KNEW WHERE THERE. JIM DID ALL THE PLUMBLING WORK AND CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THIS SET HIM BACK 2 MORE DAYS, WE DIDN'T MIND AND JIM WAS GREAT ABOUT IT. THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB ON THE CEILING. REPAIRING AND REPLACING THE DRY WALL. AND FIXED ALL THOSE NASTY NAILPOPS. WE WERE SHOCKED ON THEIR "PREP" THEY COVERED EVERYTHING BUT THE OXYGEN IN THE ROOM. AND THEY CLEANED UP SOOOOO NICE. WE'RE HAVING JIM COME BACK TO DO MORE WORK. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A GREAT HOME SERVICE CO. LOOK NO FUTHER, JMAC WILL DO THE JOB RIGHT AND VERY FAIR. WAS SORRY TO SEE THEM GO, BESIDES BEING AWSOME WORKERS THEY WERE JUST ALL-IN-ALL GREAT GUYS TO BE AROUND. NICE PERSONALITY, FRIENDLY, TOOK TIME TO EXPLAIN THINGS, AND ONE OF THE BEST THINGS, WE LOVED TO HEAR JIM LAUGH!!! :) COMES ALL THE WAY FROM HIS FEET!! HOPE TO SEE HIM SOON!!! CARL, TINA, & WALLY

Well, this potential customer has me totally mixed up with some other contractor. I gave him an estimate for replacing plumbing fixtures, and minor remodeling in a bathroom. Can't fix that confusion.

JMAC Home Services did a good job of replacing everything that was damaged, but unfortunately, they did not figure out where the leak is. I'm also disappointed with how they left the outside of the house. It looked really awful. They put the siding back up, the gutter back up. They put white caulk on a tan colored house. I was very upset. I don't know if I needed to hire somebody in siding who could take the siding off and find the problem. I thought that was what I was doing when I hired him. He also never came on time. He had other people working with him. He liked to talk a lot, which, of course, took time away from working. The bottom line is, I was disappointed.
Description of Work: We had a leak that started about ten years ago, when we had new siding put on the house. It ruined the drywall, the studs and everything, between the house and the outside of the house. It had dripped all the way down from the kitchen where it originated to all the way down to the kitchen wall and all the way down to the basement. I wanted them to figure out where it was coming from and to repair the problem and to replace everything that was damaged.

Response from JMAC Home Services
When we finished this project the husband who is also the homeowner thanked us for a great job, and even recommended me to the next door neighbor. As it is with many a leak finding the source can be difficult depending on what the original builder or contractor did not do. I determined two possible locations on this house and flashed and sealed them with rain and ice shield. I FIXED THE LEAK ! Three months later the lady of the house tells me we cracked her siding, used white caulk all over, and never told her where the leak exactly was. Next I hear I talk too much, and I don't show up on time. Three men working continuously for two days, and yes, talking to each other as we worked. Not smoking cigarettes or talking on our cell phones. Bottom line, the leak was fixed and still is and this is a case of displaced anger.

Jim is very meticulous and delivered a GREAT back splash! He ran into an issue with how the counter top was originally installed but he is very competent and was able to handle this during the tile installation. His ideas and attention to detail made this project successful. The floor in a bedroom had squeaked since we moved into our house. I tried adding extra screws to the flooring but it did not work. He was able to find the source of the problem and correct it. Jim also fixed two doors that would not open. When we needed to have a toilet replaced, it was a no-brainer to contact Jim. He is a hard worker and you are not hiring a beginner or average handyman. We will call him for future projects.
Description of Work: We had Jim perform several projects around the house: 1. most importantly, installation of a tile back splash in our kitchen 2. fixed two doors that would not stay open even after I tried the homeowner cardboard behind the hinges trick 3. fixed a squeaky floor 4. installed a toilet

After selecting what we wanted, we called JMAC ? Jim responded, looked at the job then gave us a fair price estimate. When all the parts arrived, Jim scheduled the job. He came the day that he said he would and got right to work. Throughout the job, Jim and his crew were friendly and professional. They ensured that our carpet was protected and he cleaned up at the end of each day. Jim is a true craftsman ? he never rushed the job and ensured that each installation was perfect. My wife and I couldn?t be happier with the finished product. I can honestly give JMAC an A+ rating and my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: It was a pleasure having JMAC do the remodeling of my bathroom. I chose them because of an Angie’s list review that stated that JMAC did partial remodeling – as little or as much as the customer wanted. The review was accurate; we wanted to keep our existing tub, toilet and floor but wanted to replace an outdated vanity, sink and wall tile.

It went fine. The only hard part was I couldn't be on the ground to supervise, and I had to coordinate everything from out of state. But my mother was very comfortable with Mr. McGilvery, and very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Install Washer Dryer hook-up to main floor of a one story ranch home. This involved renovation of an existing closet that was adjacent to a bathroom wall. This was done to allow my elderly mother to do her laundry upstairs, instead of having to navigate dangerous basement stairs on a daily basis. First the closet had to be gutted, then new electrical lines had to be run. However, because of the age of the home, the electrical box had to be brought up to code. Next the plumbing had to be set to accommodate the washer not just for the water to run, but to drain out into the front of the house, where the septic tank currently exists. Additionally, this was the best location for the dryer exhaust to flow, the front wall of the house. This required an estheticly pleasing vent to be installed on the front wall of the home. A oversized stacking unit was purchased to maximize efficiency of loads. Finally, folding louvered doors were added to the front of the closet hide the washer/dryer unit when not in use. The completion of this project has truly been a quality of life improvement for my mother.

Nothing but raves for this contractor. He returned my call the day I first called for an estimate. We met that week to go over the project and discussed how best to accomplish what I needed to be done for the money I had to spend. Jim had ideas and suggestions as to where to best cut costs without compromising the quality of the outcom e. He promptly emailed his quote that I accepted . He started the job 3 days later. He seems to do 95% of the work himself and the couple guys he had to help on occasion were as well groomed and polite as Jim. No nonsense, they do their work, and clean up after themselves. I don't think there is anything this guy can't do, but if there is he would be honest enough to let you know.
Description of Work: Complete bathroom remodel, including repair or glass block window vent and refinishing bathtub, tub surround ,subflooring, new flooring , lighting fixtures, relocating outlet, new sink and painting .Also added insulation Drywall repair in 2 rooms and painting 3 bedrooms. Had Jim come out for the quote of this work and another for drywall work (see other review). He was most responsive of all that I called, and of the 3 that gave me a quote for the bathroom, his was the most reasonable and seemed most willing to work with us. We wanted to do some of the remodeling ourselves but needed a professional to do the tear-out, subfloor repair, tub and surround and drywall. He and a helper did the tear-out quickly and he was very careful not to make a mess of my house. He reinforced the jousts, and replaced the rotted subfloor under where the tub was. Installed new plywood subfloor, then installed the tub and unit, and drywall. I was without a shower for 2 days, but then even though he was not finished, he rigged it so we could use it if needed. We had planned to be out for a few days so the turn-around was a pleasant surprise. JMAC did a very professional job with the finishing work and all the plumbing. My wife and I painted it and laid resilient flooring and it looks so nice. Jim did a great job I can't say enough good things about his work. I even ran into some trouble when I was replacing the toilet and ran into a 60's style flange that you just can't fix with home depot parts, and of course I called Jim, and he assessed the issue and resolved it and a very small fee with no hassle and it was good to go. Most important of all I can say, is I really trust JMAC, and have faith in what they offer.

I had started one drywall job on my own with a buddy, and quickly realized I was quite allergic to the dust and could not do it, and that I should have left it to a professional. I had two people come out and quote, for this work and bathroom remodel, and right from the start I liked Jim and he was very honest and that he gave an honest competitive price for the work. This review is for the drywall but I gave both jobs to JMAC. Jim completely finished one large basement room in which I unprofessionally hung the drywall and he was able to fix it what was messed up, even fabricate minor repairs from my screw-ups and was kind in telling me what I did wrong and what should have been done. The room, my man-cave, looks fantastic. I also had him hang and finish the drywall in a larger section of basement, for this he brought some of his other workers and knocked it out in no time. Also, fantastic work. And while I don't have the square footage for you to compair, it was a very reasonable price for the quality of the work. I will add, Jim and his workers are very nice people, great to talk to. I have no doubt I will just call him first, next time I need work done.

He was always on time, a pleasure to work with and went the extra mile. My wife has severe asthma and he went to great lenghts to make sure the kitchen was sealed off and extremly well ventilated to minimize plaster dust getting into the rest of the house. He performed the work on time and on budget. The finished work was beautiful. Jim was a pleasure to work with and I will definitely consider him for future projects.
Description of Work: Jim removed the existing drop ceiling and large stove hood in our kitchen. He completly replaced the ceiling with new drywall, can lighting, plastered and textured the surface. He finished and primed all the walls in the kitchen which had been damaged due to wall paper removal. He also primed and repainted a small bathroom that was off the kitchen.

Jim really took his time in completing the project especially the tile and groutwork and sink cut-in. He really takes pride in his work and time with his projects in addition to being easy to work with and professional, and cleans up afterwards. This is our second time using JMAC, the first was with drywall, and that was an excellent job too. We would definately consider Jim for any future work we may need in her home.

Old American Standard toilet (circa 1960s) finally gave out. Due to scarcity of parts, decided to replace the toilet. Called and spoke with Jim who gave me some suggestions on brands/models that he had installed and that his other customers have had good luck with. Settled on a Kohler Wellworth which I picked up at the Home Depot and brought home. Next day Jim came out in the evening to do the install. Although Jim had originally quoted me a price for an hour of work, it was clear after removing the old toilet that this was going to be anything but a simple replacement installation. There was a mass of cement that had been added to the floor to level the old toilet and the flange was bent. The sink drain had been run into the sewer line and was protruding into the space where the new flange would have to go. Without hesitation, Jim used a concrete saw and chisel to remove the old cement and removed the old flange. He creatively modified the new flange to accommodate the protruding sink pipe and completed the installation. The new toilet not only works better, but the installation minus the cement slab looks much better than it did before. Given the extra time it took to complete the job, which took Jim well past the dinner hour, he completed the installation cleaned up the area and was as personable as when he began. I considered his price quite reasonable given the amount of time and labor it took to complete the installation. In actuality, even with the additional time and effort, the installation ended up being about the same as quoted by Home Depot. Would definitely use JMAC again. Having Jim complete the project was like having a good neighbor who knew what the heck they were doing.

Jim is a perfectionist with complete integrity and respect for the importance of workmanship. It would hurt his conscience to do a job less well than he possibly could. You cannot hurry perfection. Let him have enough unimpeded time to do the job he wants to do for you.
Description of Work: We emailed Jim at JMAC services to request that he give us an estimate on replacing the grade door into the attached garage of our home built in 1990. He responded promptly and came out to assess the situation within a few days. Gaps had developed around the door, some of the lower parts of the frame showed water damage, and apparently a diligent team of rodents had chewed a tunnel through the wood under the threshold. Within a few days Jim emailed his estimate to remove the old door and install a brand-name pre-hung door. We accepted his offer and sooner than we expected, he called to say he would be able to do the job. Jim arrived at 9am and commenced removal of the old door and frame. He built up the underlayment beneath the threshold with quik-set, which the rodents will not be able to chew through, restored the sensor for the security system in the frame, and checked the fit, balance and plumb of each step with a long level. The only item not included in the original estimate was a special aluminum extrusion to mate the frame to our aluminum siding. Our builder had not included this material and the seal around the door will be much tighter than the original. The extrusion needed to be purchased locally mid-way through the job. All shavings, scrap and debris were swept up and placed in our trash cart and he took the old door with him. The door now hangs squarely, it opens smoothly, and the lock and latch are smooth and tight. We cannot see any daylight at any point around the door or frame.

I had hoped he could remove a wall, however, Jim confirmed a chimney stack was inside the wall and the project was simply not cost effective. I contacted Jim for an bathroom remodel estimate because he had done very good work repairing woodwork, flooring, drywall and interior painting (April 2008). I would consider hiring Jim for home remodeling projects in the future because of his Jim's professionalism and good qualiy work.
