Husney’s Landscape & Irrigation

Involved 1 person the first day, and 4 people the next. Work personnel were constantly busy. Very professional. Landscaping looks wonderful now. The crew did a marvelous job of cleaning up after themselves. We've worked with Husney Companies for over 20 years now because they do very excellent work. The only drawback is the price for services. Eventually, we're probably not going to be able to afford them any more.

They were absolutely awesome and I highly recommend them. I was supposed to trench and run the lighting, then they were going to come in and lay the irrigation pipe in the same trench. The lighting has to be 18-24 inches underground and the irrigation only needs to be a foot. However I couldn't dig the trenches because the ground was so hard, and I ended up breaking 3 trenching tools that I had rented. Therefore I kept calling them to reschedule. When I called them the third time, they offered to bring their huge 8 wheel industrial strength trencher at no extra cost. They trenched it out for me so that I could lay the electrical line and they put it in. It was just amazing that they would do that for me. They also followed up several times to make sure that I did it correctly. I am thinking of calling them again because we put the heads in but we didn't adjust them. I have a deal with then and for the first year they offered to come out and help me setup my Rain Bird system and adjust the sprinkler heads at no cost . They showed me how to do all that stuff so that it doesn't break. They are a little pricey but they were so wonderful for me even if I did not have an expensive huge thing to do. I have a small backyard and two sprinkler heads. They were immensely helpful and professional in every way, shape or form. They spent two days here which was amazing. They do other work like bathroom remodeling, to mention but a few. They have a list of people to call for references.

We initially used Husney's Landscape services in 2012 -- they designed & landscaped & transformed our backyard...and did an awesome job!! We then called them back out to design & landscape our front yard...once again we were very pleased! We then used their services to prepare/winterize both the front & back landscapes. We will continue to use & recommend their services....Very honest, reliable, affordable & friendly!

Mark was able to stop over earlier than expected. This is a GOOD thing. He was very curious and professional. He also caught a crack in the system that was unrelated to why I had him come over. A few winters ago, the local city guys took out one of my sprinkler heads by the curb and so I couldn't ever run that part of the system. This past winter, the faucet that was attached to the system broke off and so that needed to be fixed so I could turn the system on to find the broken sprinkler head. While Mark was looking at the pipe he had just cut off, he noticed a crack in the ball valve. I said fix what you can so we can get the sprinkler head fixed. He put on a new faucet. I said he could angle it a little, but I didn't realize he had another part to put on so it's angled a little too far and doesn't quit look right. Also, when we ran the system, there was a definite leak in the ball valve that also had to be fixed. Well, here's why you guys got a "B" on your rating, he didn't have a ball valve on the truck. He also didn't have the right sprinkler head to fix that problem either. I'm not in your business, but for the price you charge for road calls, shouldn't you have simple things like a ball valve on the truck? So now, I need TWO sprinkler heads fixed, and a ball valve. This would require another road call. I'd like a total price for everything to be fix BEFORE someone comes out. And make sure the next person has all the parts needed. Better yet, if I buy everything that is needed, will you guys do the job? That way, I KNOW I'll have the parts available and the job will finally get done for me to run my sprinkler system. The reason why I called you guys is my Dad, who's been doing this stuff for years for me, has been having medical issues and I don't want to pressure him over something that I thought would have been a simple fix. Plus, you guys have great rating here on Angie's List. That's why I contacted The Husney Companies.

They were absolutely excellent every step of the way in installing the lights for me. They are so kind, polite, and deep down geniunely great people. They waited until the fall to install the lights because of the flowers, but once everything was clear they came right out and did a wonderful job. Overall just an absolutely great experience!

They came on time, very professional. Cleaned up everything. Told me what do do after. My grass has come up and it looks great. I would recommend them to anyone who would ask.

The two men from Husney's showed up on time and spent nearly the whole day on the job. They did a fantastic job and even made our small front tree look great. I can't say enough about how they did more than expected from start to finish. Clean up was excellent.

Very professional. We have used Husney's for quite a few years for mulch and general upkeep of the landscaping but this is the first time we've done any type of makeover to the patio. Husney's start the project and stay on it until finished. They don't leave your project to go to another job, they finish before going to the next job. They have a wonderful group of people working for them. They are all very knowledgeable and certainly make sure you understand what they are doing and what you need to do as far as upkeep when they leave. We highly recommend them!

Dan Husney and his crew did an outstanding job on the installation of our lawn irrigation system. We are thrilled with the results!! When we originally contacted Dan to schedule a meeting to get a proposal he responded very promptly. He followed up our conversation with a confirmation email which was very helpful. When we met he was very thorough in explaining everything and provided some really great input and creative ideas for meeting our needs. He told us when he would have a proposal completed and delivered it to us as promised outlining all the details of the work to be done . Once we had a start date Dan's crew arrived on time as promised. Rob did a great job on the inside. He prepped the area by covering all our floors and the work he did on the plumbing on the inside was impeccable. When he was finished he left the place spotless - you would never know he was there! Mark did a fantastic job heading up the outside crew. He was always ready with a smile to answer all our questions and to keep us completely informed on their progress, their start times for the next day and a quick goodbye each day to let us know they were done for the day. Our installation required some extra digging as we have a u-shaped driveway and they needed to drill under the concrete on two sides to connect the pipes. Mark and his crew were very careful to cut and preserve the sod and rel-ay it when finished. Where there was cutting into the grass they made sure to dress it with topsoil and seed when they were done (which is growing in nicely). It was a real pleasure working with these guys each day. It is not always easy to find a company that can do great work and provide excellent customer service but Dan and his crew do an outstanding job on both. We have already committed to further work with this company and hope to have a longstanding relationship with them in the future. Thanks guys for such a great job and a great experience!!

Nice person just too expensive for our budget

I wanted to post a review on my initial meeting with Jeff yesterday and will update once work is completed which is why I could not rate price or quality at this time. If you are looking for someone that actually knows the meaning of the word "design" and knows plants and where they go and how to care for them, then you need not look any further. This is your guy. How do I know this? Because I have talked to the others that present themselves as design landscapers and I can tell you that if you do what I have done and been where I have been, you too will know the difference. I spoke to Jeff last week and explained the experiences I have had the last two years and the other "landscapers" I have talked to. I also explained that I was looking for someone who knew plants and that I would be asking a lot of questions. Actually, I'm surprised he didn't run the other way from our conversation, but felt it was important for him to know what has transpired and that I was tired of pretend landscapers. Jeff was not the least bit deterred and now I know why. He had nothing to fear and knew that he could more than deliver what I was looking for. I might mention that he spent 3 1/2 hours with me due to the conversation that we had on the phone. Who does that anymore? We started in the front of my yard and we reviewed each and every plant that had been previously put in last year that was not doing well or I felt was in the wrong place. Jeff explained why they were not doing well and what he would do to make them "feel" better. He was so knowledgeable about why plants do what they do and how they differ in what they want from soil to watering to sun, etc. He also has a way of explaining things with analogies that are both amusing as well as informative. I happen to have some "dainty" plants that like spa days. Who knew? Anyway, once we looked at the plants out front, I pointed out what I thought was missing or didn't like, he made suggestions and gave explanations, we then moved to the back. Now here is where it gets really interesting and where I noticed another very big difference. I had originally thought of putting a pergola over a patio area that everyone else that has been here were more than willing to do regardless of whether or not it would accomplish what I wanted which was shade. When I mentioned this to Jeff, he wasted no time to tell me that I would spend that money and probably would not achieve that shade I was looking for. Would he put it in if that's what I wanted? Sure. But he told me upfront that if I was looking for shade, that probably wasn't going to happen so why waste the money? I have also been told by others that I needed a walkway down the middle of my yard, which I was not very keen on, but because I kept thinking these people knew more than me, I was going to do that. Again, Jeff discouraged me from that and explained why. The path will now be located in an area that makes sense which will be on a patio at the back of my house coming from the entrance, that also needs to be redesigned to make sense. So these are costs and items he could very easily have provided but instead was honest with me and explained why they were not the best way to go and what should be done instead. He is the first person I have talked to that was more concerned about my needs than his pocket. He also is considering what is already planted and how/where some can be relocated so we utilize what I currently have since I've already spent the money on them. Now if this is not impressive enough, to me at least, Jeff then spent time explaining their process. First, he would come back with Kathy to take photos of the front and back . Then they will create a design showing what is being suggested in terms of designs, plants etc. Once they do that, they will return to present that to me and make any changes necessary. Once that is confirmed, they will get me pricing and I can choose how much or how little I want to do or whether to "phase" it out. I am a very organized person and need to know what the process is going to be so this was a breath of fresh air for me. This is the way I always thought it should be done, but so far he's the first one to have a plan let alone be able to tell me what it was going to be. There was absolutely no ambiguity with Jeff. When he left, I knew exactly what was going to happen. He followed up with an e-mail this morning letting me know when he and Kathy, his design partner, would be out to take photos and start working on the design. He offered to let me sleep on this yesterday, but there was no doubt in my mind that this was the person I wanted to work with. I did not need to talk to anyone else. This is as good as it gets. I am looking forward to working with Jeff and his team and am so confident that I have finally found someone that is going to create what I have wanted all along.

New landscaping was installed in a heavily wooded, shaded back yard last Fall and it was amazing to see it come to life this Spring. It is truly stunning; anyone who is concerned they may have difficulty creating a beautiful shade garden should contact Jeff. He takes care to really understand the yard, soil, sun patterns, etc., and designs a landscape that he believes will achieve the homeowers' goals while being realistic about what's possible and likely to do well long-term in the particular environment. This Spring his crew came out to do a clean-up. Later in the season a couple of plants were distressed so Renee and other members of Husney's came out to see what the problem was and recommend actions I could take to bring them back to health. I would highly recommend Husney's.

Overall the service was excellent. The technician came at around 2:30PM and was still at our home working hard at 6:30PM on a Friday. The amount of work that our newly purchased home's system needed was more than the technician expected. As a result he left on Friday night without finishing the job. There is still one leaking pipe and another head that this not working. He said that he would schedule another visit, hopefully they follow through without a reminder call from me.

We ended up not pursuing the project - in part because of Dan's informed input. But he was so service-oriented and so responsive that it should be acknowledged. I called him from across the country to get an estimate for a watering system for my elderly parents. As I explained, we had a limited budget in mind. He cheerfully went out to see them and spent time listening to their account of the needs. He followed up with me by phone the same day, and discussed some options. When I responded with more questions a couple of days later, he didn't hesitate to get back on the phone with me. We ended up deciding the project doesn't make economic sense, given my parents' situation, but Dan was unfailingly straightforward, helpful and kind - which I especially appreciate where Mom and Dad are concerned. If ever a family member is in the market for an irrigation system, I will Husney my first call. You can really feel the difference when it's a family business and people care about what they're doing.

Due to our old landscaping becoming an eyesore, I began looking at landscaping companies to do an overhaul. I set up an appointment with Jeff Husney, who was prompt, and we discussed ideas for a retaining wall and what to go inside. Liking his price and ideas ( he was very knowledgeable), I agreed to the work. Work was then scheduled and the crew arrived on time the scheduled day. The crew( Mark, Chis, Jim and their helpers) were very professional and friendly, and Mark and Chris did a great job tearing out the old mess and putting in the retaining wall and with the planting . Jim was very thorough on how to take care of the new plants. Overall a great experience. Our yard looks a 100 times better and we're very happy. My wife and I are looking forward to using them on our next projects.

Jeff came out and took a look at the yard and talked options with me for a good 30 minutes. He was able to provide a detailed scope of service and estimate within 7 days and started work with 14 days of receiving my deposit. This was impressive given everything started in early July which I assume is a very busy time for him. The team showed up on time the date we agreed on and introduced the entire team to my wife who is home during the day. It was a two day job and they let her know when they got there and when they left. The work was excellent and aligned with the scope of work on the quote. Very clean lines when redefining the beds, mulch was evenly spread and there was no sign they were there when they left (except everything looked better). We will be moving to phase two in the fall to plant a few items which I have high expectations for. Jeff, Gale or Jim were always responsive to questions and I am very pleased with the work. I would highly recommend them.

Dan was great. He is professional, was prompt and patient. He was able to test our water pressure and sprinkler heads and make recommendations that will solve our issues. A really nice guy!

Due to several years of neglect my landscaping had become very overgrown and unsightly. I attempted to contact several companies who either didn't return my calls or did not service my area. After contacting Husney's Landscaping, I believe I spoke with Mrs. Husney who advised that her husband, Jeff, would return my call. I told her that I would be out of town for a few days and asked if he could call me when I returned. He, in fact, called upon my return and scheduled an appointment at my convenience to come to my home to view the area for a proposal. He arrived exactly on time and walked the yard with me advising what he felt needed to be replaced and what could remain. He made suggestions, but there was no pressure to do more than necessary. He was very knowledgeable about plant material, pruning, etc. He agreed to present a proposal within a day or so. I received the proposal the same day by email. In the proposal, he indicated when the work could be scheduled. He was very accurate as to when I would be scheduled. Prior to that date, my yard was marked to avoid any issues with digging. The day before the scheduled date, one of his gardeners, Renee, called me to let me know she would be out the next day and set up a time with me to walk the property before they got started. She arrived exactly on time. she is very pleasant and easy to talk to. She also listened to my concerns and requests. Once we finished our tour of the yard, she immediately began to work. She had an assistant, Chad, who arrived after I left for work. The following day, the new plantings were installed and the entire area was mulched. On both days, the yard was immaculate when they left. On the second day, Renee walked with me around the yard, answering questions and instructing me about watering, etc. Since I had asked Jeff about setting up some sort of a maintenance program, Renee advised what she (or another gardener) would do on a regular basis. She is very knowledgeable about plant material, pruning and maintenance. I am beyond thrilled with the job everyone from Husney did on my yard. They are very professional, pay attention to detail and leave the area immaculate throughout the process. I plan to continue to use them in the future and would highly recommend them.

Overall, I'm happy with the service provided.

They are excellent. They send us a service agreement at the beginning of each year. They do a complete inspection of our sprinkler system every time they come out. They have also repaired a few sprinklers as needed. We have been using for a few years.

Jeff Husney came out and gave me an estimate for the removal of our old front and tree lawn and the planting of a new lawn. Dan Husny also came out and gave me an estimate for an irrigation system. The job was done in August, 2011. They did a super excellent job. The lawn is beautiful! If I have any questions regarding the irrigation system, Rob is happy to help. Jim answers any questions I have regarding the new turf. Phone calls are returned promptly. I highly recommend them.

We had just had a concrete patio poured and was looking for landscaping ideas to put around the patio. We had a 90th birthday party planned for my mom the following month, so we were on a tight schedule to complete this project. Jeff & his team came out, assessed the area, took measurements & pictures. Within 1 week, they came back out and went over the portfolio they had designed for our backyard, which included the plants, layouts, etc. They stayed within our required budget amount and included ideas that we would have never thought of on our own. We approved the work and within 2 weeks the work was completed! We are extremely happy with the look, layout of our backyard, as well as the cost to complete the project. They also completed the job within plenty of time for our event to take place! We will continue to use Jeff for other projects (front yard is next) and refer to our friends as well!

We have a challenging landscape due to a heavily wooded and shaded back yard with many mature trees that consume water and nutrients from the soil. I first reached out to Jeff , and a few other landscape companies, in the spring, hoping to have work done by summer. While other landscapers who reviewed our site quickly came back with expensive and cookie-cutter proposals, Jeff recommended we wait a couple of months until the leaves filled in so he could more accurately assess the sun-shade patterns of the yard and recommend plantings that would do well long-term. While I was anxious to have the work done, I appreciated Jeff's desire to do the job right versus quickly. After being able to see the yard in full shade, he came back with recommendations for plantings. When we expressed desire for certain types of plants, he was honest about the likelihood of those plants thriving in our environment given the site conditions and recommended plants he felt would achieve our objectives but also do well on our site. We have not fully completed the project yet, but I am confident that when we are done, we will have a garden that meets our needs and has a realistic chance of doing well given our site conditions. I would highly recommend Jeff and his company. I wish we would have discovered him a long time ago.
