The crew worked well, asking for my feedback as they went. The did everything they were supposed to except they left a good deal of tree shavings/saw dust on the tree house in the back (I thought they would have used the leaf blower or a broom to remove that) and also a pile of shavings in the front next to the tree stump. Otherwise, they seemed to do a very good job and Jen, the arborist who I spoke to originally was very helpful and knowledgable in the initial process of figuring out what work needed to be done.

Jennifer listened to our needs and didn't try to sell us anything we did not want. She is environmentally friendly. They were efficient, professional and ethical. Considering the work they had to do - they were surprisingly quiet. They have excellent customer service. Clean-up was excellent. Highly recommended and would use again.

Jennifer responded to my first phone call months ago when I was getting estimates from many tree companies. She came out as promised and gave me an estimate and revised the estimate when I told her I wanted the work done in the winter (their slow season). The estimate was given in July and I got a call from Jennifer a couple of weeks ago saying the crew would be out today to do the work. She followed up last night to make sure i remembered they were coming at 8 am today. Sure enough, at 8 on the dot the crew-- Nick, Nick and Ryan, were there. Jennifer came a couple of minutes later to make sure everything was going well. .The crew got right to work and didn't even take a lunch break as far as I could see. They finished up around 3 pm and left. Something like the old story of the Elves and the Shoemaker--did their job efficiently, cleaned everything up and left. Painless for me. It was fascinating to see them up in the trees taking some of the bigger trees down one piece at a time. Good job!!!!!

Our experience with Independent Tree was very positive from start to finish. I called this provider for an estimate based on positive reviews and more importantly the arborist services they provide. We preferred an arborist assessing our trees for safety reasons and for proper pruning. Jen, a certified arborist, came out to assess the trees in question. She took the time to look over our trees and patiently answer the many questions we had. Besides pruning and removing dead wood, Jen recommended that our large oak be cabled in two places where large limbs are hanging over our home. We felt the price quoted was not only fair but a good deal. We had received one other estimate prior to this and it came back at 3x the price and didn't include cabling. On the date of service, the crew, headed by Steve, showed up on time. They were pleasant and polite, and Steve explained everything they would be doing. The crew was very efficient, it was obvious they know what they are doing. Clean up was thorough. I would not hesitate to use this provider again and recommend them to others. Jennifer Roberts made an appointment for a consultation and arrived promptly the next day. She diagnosed the dogwood as having a bad attack of fungus and gave me gave me a detailed plan of care for it. She then looked at the stump of the maple and explained what had happened to it. I asked her for advice about a new tree and she gave me several choices which matched my needs and advised me on placement. The consultation lasted about 25 minutes and there was no charge for it. Jennifer obviously cared about the trees and felt badly about the lost maple. I subsequently chose a Dawn Redwood and Jennifer sent me prices and a website with more information. I chose the largest of the three price options. In September, her team came to plant the tree. They were on time and professional. They took time to check that the tree was straight and that it would get good sun. All three were friendly and they gave me thorough advice about caring for the new tree. They were very patient while I took notes, went over the information twice, and acted like their only concern for the day was taking care of my tree. Working with Independent Tree was a great experience. I've had planting done by landscapers in the past, but this was in a higher league. I will use Independent Tree for all my tree needs in the future.

I would hire them again. They were timely and followed through on what they said they would do. They always gave me a heads up on when they were coming. They outsource the tree stump & roots removal. He did a nice job removing without damaging the nearby plants. He was also very courteous and tidy. They made three suggestions of trees to replace the dead one, each with a price. I selected one. I liked that the tree we got was one that is native to the area and so should be ok in our sometimes harsh, long winters. I appreciated that they put that kind of thought into their recommendations. The tree they brought was on the larger size of what they said they would bring, which was nice. The planting was excellent and they even rearranged/transplanted some of the existing plants nearby to make the bed look nice.

Despite what I'm sure was a very busy schedule following the storm, Jen came out and checked the damage very promptly following my call and was back within 4 days to do the job. She is a consummate professional as was her crew. They removed the fallen tree, cleaned up all fallen branches and debris. They left nothing behind and there was not a bit of damage to the property. It was also good to know Jen and members of her crew are registered arborists. I had several questions regarding other trees on the property and she graciously answered them. We have other trees that require attention and will be using Independent Tree for that work. It is a real pleasure working with such a professional team.

Jen and the crew are amazing. Then were very responsive to all my questions and understood that I wanted to keep the maple trees on the property line for screening but needed them cleaned up after the devastation created by the utility company. They look so much better it is now pleasure to sit in my back yard and look up.

I have a contract pending with them. I have not actually had the work done. But I anticipate the favorable response, not sure what price is going to be but they took down the tree of my neighbor’s yard a year ago and asked to use my property for their rake, so, they could get out the tree and they did very good work at that time. I was not the person paying at that time. There is really was not my job, like, I watch what they did, and that is why I have them line them up that I am going to have done for the next month or two, so, so far, so good. They did but I do not really compare to any others or so, I do not really know how competitive they are going to be. I would say, probably, it was a month or more ago. They sent out a registered artist, which I like, that somebody who presumedly know something about trees and not just the look lecture. And he is very knowledgeable, happy to share whatever he knew with me, so, I was comfortable asking them to put me on their schedule. It cost fifteen hundred bucks, plus tax. They are just being pathetic and professional. Basically, the person I called on will pull down right on the spot. They did it on time.

Independent Tree was one of five companies listed on Angie's List I contacted to give me a quote to remove two dead elm trees; of the two companies that returned my call, Independent Tree got my vote. They were not the cheapest, but I felt they were the most competent and/or reliable. I only needed the trees felled; one was right against another tree and difficult for me to drop easily; and the other was in between two power lines, again not a job I wanted to do myself. Individually, the trees were quoted at $150 (against another tree, but easy to drop otherwise) and $350 (by some power lines, and needing a "cherry picker" to be safely felled). Alan Kraus arrived to quote for the job at the precise time we arranged, gave me his estimate, then shared some sage pruning advice about other trees on my property. After I accepted his quote, we arranged for the job to be done the following week, so I was a bit surprised when nothing happened on the scheduled day (not even a 'phone call to tell me he wouldn't be there). I got hold of Alan and arranged for the work to be completed the following week, which it duly was. Independent Tree took good care of our property, using plywood boards to ensure the "cherry picker" he used for the trees did not leave rut marks in the lawn. I did not need to have the felled tree removed or cut up, which probably halved the cost of the work.

I consulted the website of Independent Tree LLC. The website is professional and attractive, and has a lot of good information. In August 2011, I e-mailed my request for an estimate, and Alan Kraus e-mailed me back very promptly. We set up an appointment for an estimate the following week. Alan arrived that day, listened to all my needs and questions, and spent plenty of time looking at the trees. He also noted a girdling root on our red maple and explained why that was a problem. He wrote up a proposal, which I accepted and signed. The work was scheduled for October. By mid-November we were still waiting, so I e-mailed. Alan e-mailed back and apologized for the delay. He explained that storms earlier in fall had delayed the work schedule, and he scheduled the work for the following week. Alan and crew came out on the scheduled day and pruned all the trees. They did an excellent job on all. In particular, two trees that were close to the house and very overgrown were pruned very well. The only thing that was overlooked was attending to the girdling root. When Alan e-mailed to ask if we were pleased with the work, I mentioned the root, and someone came out the next week and took care of it. I gave a grade of B rather than A for Responsiveness because I had to contact the company when the scheduled work was overdue. I would have appreciated the company contacting me to explain that they were behind schedule but had not forgotten us.

Overall the experiene was a very good one.

We had a company come several times to take care of our trees, and some of the trees fell over in a high wind. When we called that company to remove them, they just cut them down and left the stumps, which we were unhappy with. When we called Independent, and they did a wonderful job. He is a certified arborist, and was recommended to us by our landscaper. We were just thrilled with their service, and we will continue to use them.

Mr. Kraus came out and left an estimate for the willow. When I phoned, I asked him about also pruning two maples. The men arrived to do the work promptly at the appointed time, cleaned up throughly, finished at the estimated time and agreed to prune yet another tree. Mr. Kraus, a certified arborist, also took the time to address all of my questions and concerns about various trees on my property.

PRICES ARE WELL BELOW THE OTHER QUOTES WE GOT, AND THEY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB.
