The price quoted was outrageous for me, but they came down to 10 Dollars a sq foot to install. I have seen their portfolio of work, and they are one of those companies which, if you really want someone to come and to the job, they are the person to come and do it, but you will pay dearly. They were very professional. They told me about hardwood floors than I ever knew, and they explained to me why my floors were falling apart. They also told me how to take care of the floors. They were extremely knowledgeable, and extremely professional. The only thing was that the price was ridiculous, it was so high, I didn't even call them back. I would want to use them but I don't have the money to do so.

I made an appointment for 2:30 and I got a call at 2:50 stating (Name) was running late and would be there in 10 min. Phone rung again but did not get to it in time. Looked and it was the same unlisted number. Went outside to see if (name) was there and saw nobody. Checked msg and (name) stated he was there and could not get to the front door because of snow and there was a big black dog at back door. I tried to call back but his number came up as unlisted and when I called office number I got a machine. I left a msg and have not heard anything back from (name). In my opinion I think he should at least blew the horn or tried to call again. It was only one min after I got the call that I went outside to find he was gone. I waited for(name)an extra 30 min. I had to take extra time off work for this. And to this day I have not heard from (name). By the way the dog is a 11 year old newfoundland who can barely move and barks at nobody. I understand he is a big dog.

Why would I call you and reschedule an appointment you obviously didn't care about? I called you to let you know exactly when I was arriving, yet you didn't make arrangements to get me in your home, and further didn't answer the phone when I did arrive. What else was I suppose to do? Regarding dogs, I grew up with a Weimaraner. My Father taught obedience training at the Armory on South Main Street for years and successfully showed my dog Rebel in many obedience trials. The Middletown Journal even did an article on Rebel and my family years ago. So I am VERY comfortable with all animals, especially dogs. I know that you do NOT approach a LARGE strange dog with out the homeowners permission. I've been in this business for 28 years and have yet to be attacked or bitten, and I plan to keep it that way.

They're fantastic. They came out to do the work in April of last year and I spend about $1900. I used them because of their ratings on Angie's List. The owner came and did the quote and walk-through of the job. He was personable, experienced, reasonably priced, got the job done when he said they would, punctual and just overall amazing.

They were responsive to my quote request, showing up the next day and delivering an actual quote in 24 hours. The owner was patient and answered all of my questions. Once I accepted the quote, his employees showed up on the scheduled day and completed the work in 3 days. Each day they provided me with an explanation of the work that they were going to perform and the time it would take. They also took time to show me a range of stains that I was interested in, until I found the one I wanted. I have been living on the finished product for 2 months now and it still looks great, I look forward to many years with these floors.

It went well except it was a rush job. Was suppose to install in about three weeks but had a cancellation and wanted to install in about 4 days. That was Ok with me but they did not bring the hardwood early to acclimate. The installers were prompt and friendly. Doug was good at communicating. I like the overall look of the floor but there are large cracks between a lot of boards and a lot of surface nails that the installers apparently tried to fill in but the shiny spots over the nails make them very apparent.

Thank you for your response. For the record, your job was not a "rush" job, I had a cancellation and offered to move your job up instead of waiting 4 weeks to have your flooring installed. You could have easily declined my offer, most customers are very happy if I can work their job in sooner than anticipated. There should be no large gaps between boards. I would suggest you check the relative humidity in your home and make sure your humidifier is working on your furnace. It sounds like it is most definitely NOT working, and the furnace is excessively drying your floor out causing damage. This has been a very cold winter, and the excessive cold is drying out many floors now, including my own floors in my showroom and home. Some expansion and contraction should be expected, but it is your responsibility to maintain the relative humidity to minimize the movement.

Exceeded my expectations! Doug is a pro and he has excellent people working for him. I had received 3 bids form hardwood floor companies who all had A's on Angie's List. I liked them all, and prices were similar. But Doug stood out because he took more time to really listen to my concerns (particularly the fact that we have 2 active dogs and 2 cats), offered various options, and he just seemed a notch above the rest in his knowledge, experience and expertise. He always answered my questions via email or phone within a day or two. Sometimes that was at 9:30pm because he is very busy during the day. He told me what the schedule would be (start on a Wednesday, and end the following Friday), and their work proceeded exactly as he had said like clockwork. The workers showed up on time everyday, got right to work, answered my questions along the way, and if we weren't home when they finished for the day, they left a note on our front & back doors as to when we could come in. I was really worried about all the dust, but they minimized it as much as possible by covering all my cabinets, bookshelves, wall décor and doorways with plastic. I did not use the dustless vac system. Steve, who did the Pergo & tile tear out (as well as installation) even took the time to rescue my cat who got stuck under some basement shelves. I had planned to wait until they sanded on Monday to board my pets at the kennel. But on Friday, the noise from the hammering had frightened my cat underneath some heavy 8 foot long storage shelves which were raised 4 " off the concrete basement floor. My cat could get her head out, but not her body. Steve immediately thought to make a "jack" with a long 2 x 4, and raised up one end of the shelves so she could come out! Now that the job is completed, everything is even more beautiful and durable than we anticipated! We chose the Provincial stain with a satin finish and the Bona Traffic commercial grade polyurethane, feeling that this was the best solution to minimize the appearance of scratches from the pets' toenails (which we regularly have trimmed and grinded). Other benefits to the water based finished is that is dries within a couple hours (they can put 2 coats on in the same day), is less toxic smelling than oil based, and is very durable! The Bona stain also included an "amber glow" to give it a similar appearance to oil based.
Description of Work: Removed & discarded carpet, pad, staples & tack strips in LR, DR, FR & STAIRS. Removed & discarded Pergo floor in KITCHEN, BREAKFAST ROOM, HALL, FOYER, 1/2 BATH & CLOSET, as well as tile underneath Pergo in foyer. Installed new oak hardwood where the Pergo had been, fingering the old strips into the new at doorways. Replaced a few spots where pet urine & water had damaged floor. Sanded, stained, and sealed with Bona Traffic commercial grade water based polyurethane. Installed cloverleaf shoe strips.

We are completely satisfied with our "new looking" floors. Doug and his company completed the job on time, in a very professional manner, and answered any and all questions that we had/have to our satisfaction. When the new shoe molding was installed, it appeared too light and did not seem to match. Doug fixed the problem and we could not be happier. We are considering installing more hardwood in our house and eliminating some carpet. Only Doug and All About Hardwood will complete the job when we decide to move forward with the project.
Description of Work: Doug Hall's company, All About Hardwood, refinished existing hardwood floors in our foyer, kitchen, powder room, and hallway. The job was more extensive than usual since the existing oak floors are beveled and required hand scraping in addition to the normal sanding. They used their dustless system for sanding, stained, applied the finish coats, and installed new shoe molding.

We were very pleased. It was worth the effort of moving all of the furniture out from and back to the living room, removing and rehanging the drapes, and repainting the bottom wood trim! One technician was here the first day to remove the existing (and very old!) carpet and other material sand, and apply the stain and first coat of polyurethane. That took most of the day. He returned the second day to apply the second coat of polyurethane. A different (but equally competent) technician came the third day to apply the final coat of polyurethane and install the new shoe strip around the perimeter of the room. We were very pleased with both technicians. The room looks great!

Workers shown up right on time each day. They provided me with a game plan as to when I could re-enter the house. Everything went great. The floors look awesome! We had the Foyer, Hall, Kitchen Breakfast, Nook, 1/2 Bath and closets finished. I was not a real fan of the pre-finished floors that came with the house. The contractor sanded down the floor and removed all the old finish and leveled out the un-even joints. We had the floors stained with a light color that really brought out the grain. .Please be aware that this is a 3 day process. The floors may be walked on after a certain time each day. This allowed us to stay at the house at night. It needs to be 48 hours after the finish is applied before the furniture may be moved back in. We took our small dog to a friends house to stay to keep her away from the dust and noise. We paid the extra money for the dust system. However, there was still a thin film of dust on the furniture that cannot be avoided.

It took a little time to receive a call back on the original call. On the day of the estimate they were very professional and took measurements asking what we were looking for. We received the estimate within a week and made our decision to use the company. I believe they said we had to remove all the furniture which i did including in the closets. We opted to have them remove the carpet an extra charge. We had 3 bedrooms, hallway and living room done. We also had them remove some tile at the entrance with hardwood underneath and they found some wood that was stained beyond repair under the carpet. That was added to the bill. They took there time making sure the rooms were closed off by sheets of plastic. We have an unfinished basement and all our furniture and boxes were there; a plus would have been to have plastic covering that. We were asked whenever something might entail a greater cost i.e. the stained wood or when something didn't look right. The worker that replaced the stained spot and we had missing floor boards where a wall was removed was great. We couldn't tell a fix was done. He also went through the house checking for nail holes, mars or blemishes and filling them. They did a great job well worth the money.

The process was easy. Doug was accommodating in working within dates we wanted the work completed. His crew showed up and worked hard each day. One man spent the entire first day sanding the floors. With the dust barriers that where put up and the special vacuum system used there was very little dust. After staining the floors were sealed on the second day. We were able to walk on the floors in bare feet or socks each evening. We did not prepare meals. The third day the floors were covered in 2 coats of urethane and new toe molding was put down. Work was finished about 6:30 in the evening on the third day. The work would have been completed a few hours earlier but we decided after one coat of semi-gloss we wanted the second coat to be high gloss. That was at 4:30 on Friday. Without complaints, the man doing the work had to go back to their place of business and pick up a bottle of high gloss. He came back to our home in Mason and completed the job. The following week I noticed a small spot where molding was missing. They were back to the house the next day and put down the missing piece. The floors are beautiful.

My house has a mixture of two different types of wood--oak on the first floor and pine on the stairs and second story. Doug and I had pulled the carpet back in the master bedroom and had seen that prior owners had stained part of the pine, but had left another part alone. Doug explained that this was very common in older homes and said they would do their best, but that the two areas would not match completely. I definitely understood this, but was still happy that he had warned me. The day the work was being done, I received a call at work to let me know there was a snag. Although Doug and I had pulled the carpet back in the master bedroom and we had looked at the pine in the guest bedroom closet, we apparently had NOT pulled the carpet back in the guest bedroom itself. Unfortunately, when they went to do this, they realized that linoleum had been installed over the pine and was completely glued down. I asked them to just lay the carpet back down on top. Although this was disappointing for me, this wasn't their fault. Doug revised the estimate right away and they continued with the work. When I stopped by mid-job, I was surprised when I saw how many holes there were on the pine stairs and I panicked a bit. I called and ended up talking with Doug's brother and he told that Doug was on vacation. I guess I must have sounded pretty concerned, because apparently his brother called Doug and then Doug ended up calling me while he was on vacation! He took the time to talk with me and explain some options. I couldn't believe he had done that and I was really grateful! It made me feel so much better and I felt confident that everything would look great when it was done. I was right! My floors look beautiful and I am very impressed with the job that Doug and his team did!
Description of Work: I purchased a house that had hardwood under carpet and I wanted to remove the carpet and have the hardwood refinished. The only room where the hardwood was showing was the dining room and that also needed to be refinished. I chose two companies from Angie's List and got bids. I was impressed with Doug's professionalism and personality and his bid was significantly lower for a higher quality and less toxic product (commercial grade water based polyurethane). Doug was also willing to schedule my job within a very tight time frame of the couple days after I closed on the purchase of my house and before I was due to move in.

The finished floor is beautiful! Doug was very knowledgeable and explained my options and what was cost effective. The work was scheduled at my convenience; they started the project on time. Steve, who removed the carpet, laid the floor and the toe kick, was fast and very neat. I have 2 criticisms: 1. I had to email Doug almost every evening to find out what the schedule was for the next day and what the restrictions were for walking on the floor, since we were living in the house while the work was done. Doug should have FAQs or some sort of instructions that outline what to expect each day. 2. I gave a "C" for professionalism because the 2 young men who handled the sanding and staining left a mess at the end of each of the 4 days they worked. They didn't use plastic sheeting for my pantry or in the bath - the saw dust was everywhere and on everything. I don't know if there really is such a thing as dustless floor refinishing, but they could have done a lot better job. You can work that way in a house under construction, but not in an occupied home. I think All About Hardwood does very good work. They just need to take more care to minimize the mess.
Description of Work: Had 22-year old bleached oak floor in kitchen, foyer, and full bath sanded. Carpet was removed from open dining room-living room; new oak flooring was laid to match. Then, all flooring was stained a medium brown and top-coated. The whole project took 10 days.

Thank you [member name removed] for your business, and the "A" rating in quality! I'm really disappointed in the "C" rating for professionalism as well as the overall "B" rating considering the "A" ratings in the other categories and your overall satisfaction with the job. In response to your post, regarding the scheduling, I explained the process when I originally estimated the job, then again on the phone when we laid out the dates the flooring would be installed and finished. The only thing I can't tell you is the time of the day we will arrive when the top coats of finish are applied. This is because we do more than one job per week, so it just depends on where you fall on the route for that particular technician for the day. Occasionally homeowners will request first stop each day, and we always try to accommodate them. You never mentioned any concerns in regards to timing and scheduling at all before or during the entire process. I wish you had, because we could have tried to accommodate your preferences like we do with all our customers. The technicians did not hang plastic to the 1/2 bath because there was a door there that was closed. Because the pantry was so small, they opted to keep the door closed and not seal off the shelves in the pantry. If this caused a problem or a lot of cleanup I wish you would have called, I could have sent them out immediately to take care of any issues you had. Further, I spoke with you regarding the schedule every day, and not once did you mention anything about the men leaving a mess? Again, we would have gladly taken care of the issues the next day. Lastly, I charge a premium to utilize the Bona Dust Containment System. Since we were installing new flooring, cutting off door casings and jambs, I did not include the DCS as an option because anytime you install a hardwood floor you're going to have some dust.
