 + -1 moreThe night of the ice storm a section of the tree came down and a large section was over the roof of my home. The fire dept. tried to prop it up with a ladder. That night I called 15 tree surgeons but only got recordings and the next day no one called me back. I got Daveys name from Angies list and spoke to a very nice woman who despite being swamped managed to get Gary over here that afternoon. Gary said not to worry it would spring back when the ice melted which it did.They removed the broken section the next week. This company is a prime example of how a company should be run. Anyone that needs tree work done would be well advised to use this company.
Description of Work: A large section of a birch tree came down in the ice storm and Daveys tree service removed it.

 + 0 moreI called Davey to get an estimate, and they sent out a rep. within 2 business days. He was very knowledgeable and told us that our tree was healthy and didn't require treatment. He recommended some lawn service and even told us how best to care for our lawn (cutting height, watering freq., areas to watchout for)! We will definitely be pursuing lawn service with this company.
Description of Work: I had an inspector come and give an estimate on lawn service and advice on lawn maintenance. They also had him give us some advice on a questionable tree in our backyard.

Description of Work: Tree had fallen into lake. They pulled it out, chipped and hauled the branches, and cut up trunk for firewood.

 + -1 moreInitially, I gave this company a F score on professionalism, because of the conversation I had with the rep about their mistake. He was very unsympathetic and would not concede that there was an error on their part. Just poor customer relations in my view. Because of Angie's List (complaint resolution process), I was able to get my complaint heard elsewhere in the company. The manager called several days later. Although he spoke to my wife over the phone, I was told that he was sincere in his apology for the company and would discount the bill. Because of this, I am changing my overall rating to a B.
Description of Work: I was asked by the City to cut down one of my trees which appeared at risk for falling into the public road. They admitted Davey Tree as one of the companies working for them on the same street. Davey tree was one of the lower quotes I got for the job. Two trees were growing together at the same spot. I asked specifically for the 3 ft. of stump to be left from the diseased tree to support and counterweight the healthy tree's trunk, which was growing out at an angle. This was specified in our written service order. At the time of service, this was NOT done. Tree was taken down to the base. I complained to the rep, who initially marginalized my concerns and refused any apology, nor discount. I thought this was an unacceptable attitude for a service company. I subsequently aired my complaint on Angie's List. Using the resolution process on Angies's List, I was able to get my complaint heard elsewhere in the company. The manager called to apologize, and gave me a $100 discount.

 + -1 moreI have had mixed success with most lawn companies or individuals who mow lawns. Most can't keep a regular schedule and you often have to call to get service when the grass gets too long. However, I have used Davey Tree for this service for the past two months and have been pretty pleased. They are not the most expensive nor the cheapest, but I think you get good quality for what you pay for. I am always willing to pay more for good service and high quality and Davey Tree has delivered. My yard looks good every time they mow it. I am very satisfied with the service.
Description of Work: Weekly lawn mowing, trimming and edging. I solicited quotes from 2 other lawn companies; one higher, and one lower than Davey Tree. I already use lawn fertilization and tree services from Davey Tree and I have been happy with those services.

 + -1 moreWhen the gentleman came out to remove the stump, everything was fine except for the mess he left in my drive. He had to drive his truck onto my lawn, and it was wet and muddy from rain. As a result, there were big clumps of mud and debris left behind. I think he was in a big hurry. I called them back, and they agreed that it should have been cleaned up. They sent the same guy back a few hours later to do this. The crew that trimmed a tree near my garage left dead branches on the tree and in the yard. Even the guys who trimmed the bushes only cleaned in front of them, but not in back. I would have liked for them to take care of this even if they thought no one would notice because the dead material will rot and be visible from the street. I've used them before to spray my tree for parasites, and they've done a good job. I would use this company again, but next time I will inspect thoroughly after the job is done to ensure the cleanup is done well. Overall, they're good.
Description of Work: They cut a pear tree because there were all kinds of chutes growing out of the tree, which was growing from a stump. They also removed one of my bushes and its stump. They removed another large bush, but did not remove the trunk for fear they would damage a nearby tree. They also trimmed my bushes and put down some mulch and edged the area where the honeysuckle tree was located.

 + -1 moreExcellent company to work with. Our sales rep, Jason Muchmore, is extremely timely on returning calls and not only quotes competitive pricing but comes out to check on any jobs underway. He is willing to answer any questions and is willing to share his experience on trees, lawns, etc. We have used this company for many different tree and lawn needs and have always been very pleased with them.
Description of Work: Davey Tree has come out and cut down dead trees and trimmed up dying branches. This year we also used them for some lawn service needs.

 + -1 moreWe have used Davey Tree for years. They do a nice job and are reliable. We've also hired them in the past to cut down some dead trees in the yard, as well as, a tree that had been blown down in a storm. Davey can be higher than other companies like this, however, they know what they're doing and are professional. They won't recommend something unless you truly need it. One downside is sometimes they forget to close the gate when they leave. We don't realize the gate is open, let our dogs out and they get out of the yard. This has happened 3 times in the past five years.
Description of Work: They weed and fertilize yard five times a year. They will come sometime during the day to spray the yard for weeds, and also fertilize the yard. We do not need to be home when this is done.

 + -1 moreTo keep limbs from breaking off from a big tree, they cabled the limbs. They fertilized our big hackberry tree which is the tree that they cabled. I was amazed because they had to get up into the tree which is very high, as tall as a five story house! They are the pros in this area as far as I'm concerned. They also did a complete treatment of the tree, pruned, etc. We feel that we have a responsibility to see that the tree lasts, which is a lot older than me. They knew all about how to care for it.

AS A RESULT, WE HAVE HAD THEM BACK TO GRIND A COUPLE OF STUMPS AND TO MANAGE OUR LAWN. THEY MAY NOT BE THE CHEAPEST TREE SERVICE, BUT THEY ARE RELIABLE AND THOROUGH.
Description of Work: WE MOVED INTO A HOUSE WITH A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF OVERGROWTH IN THE BACK YARD. SAPLINGS HAD BEEN ALLOWED TO GROW INTO FULL SIZE TREES IN ODD LOCATIONS. Description of Work: I NEED 2 TREES REMOVED, THEIR STUMPS GROUND OUT AND 2 MORE STUMPS (FROM PREVIOUS TREE REMOVALS) GROUND OUT. THE ESTIMATOR FROM DAVEY WAS INITIALLY VERY PROMPT AND FRIENDLY. HOWEVER, HE NEVER ASKED ME EXACTLY WHAT I PLANNED TO DO WITH THOSE AREAS AFTERWARDS AND GAVE ME A VERY POORLY DETAILED ESTIMATE AS TO THE WORK THEY WILL PERFORM.
