We had a three season room put on our existing decking. In an area of the decking the three season room did not cover, water pooled after rains and was causing water damage to the exterior of our room. We wanted the old decking removed and new decking installed with proper lay and drainage. We contacted Home Solutions Handyman. A representative that would be doing the work, David, came out to give me an estimate. He was prompt and arrived on time. I explained the situation; he looked at the job; he made some recommendations and gave me a time frame of when he could complete the work. The job did not include the materials, only the fasteners. I supplied the new Trex decking. Despite three days of sporadic torrential rain David was able to complete the job close to his stated completion date. David impressed me specifically in three areas: 1) He showed up when he said he would. 2) He completed the job when he said he would. 3) The job was done exactly the way he said it would be done. I'm very happy with the results.

They were courteous and professional. They came when they said they would and they never argued or talked back to me. Overall, it was a great experience both times they came out. I would do it again!

Two workmen (Dale & Tommy) arrived relatively promptly each day (some rain delays -- not really their problem). First day, they used jacks to raise roof slightly in order to (1) remove existing columns and (2) install new columns, adapting them to fit and support existing structure. Second day, caulked bases and headers of new columns, and when caulk had set sufficiently, painted all columns with owner-supplied paint. All work was done efficiently, skillfully and according to agreed schedule. Both kept us fully informed of what they were doing and why, and made sure to consult with us when any guidance or information was needed. Here is what we emailed Home Solutions Handyman upon completion of the job: We are very pleased with the work! Dale and Tommy were very thorough and professional, and took care to let us know what was happening each step of the way. The columns themselves were very close matches to what was removed, so there appears to be little, if any, difference to the casual observer, and Dale and Tommy did a fine job of adapting them to our particular setup. Plus, of course, we know we won?t have to do the same job again! Thanks again for the excellent work!

Just needed 3 pieces of Vinyl Siding replaced and 3 pieces repaired. The damaged near the top of my house (20 feet up). There were no materials (except nails) needed to complete the job. I was previously quoted $140 estimate to do the job by another handyman service. I was quoted $700 by Landon. The estimate was a bit higher than the previous estimate so I decided to pass. Update on 9/20/2014 The siding was fixed on June 29, 2013 by Mr Handyman. The cost was $150 for 1 hour of work but the repairman was done in 30 minutes and he secured a few more panels in this time frame. As of 9/20/2014, no issues with the siding.

It appears Mr. Landon has a history of making assumptions, even when they are wrong. Mr. Landon arrived at our home on time to walk through the project which was a combination of finished carpentry work (crown molding), as well as electrical (installation of can lights). It probably would have been a pretty substantial quote due to the amount of crown molding and base boards we wanted added throughout the first floor of our home. I received an email on June 24th stating: "After looking at our work schedule and reviewing your needs, we regret that we will not be able to bid on your project(s) at this time." I called Mr. Landon to ask specifically why he had decided not to bid. He said he assumed our needs included quickly getting the project completed. I said we had not specifically discussed a time table, so how could he make such an assumption. He then said "he hadn't even had time to estimate the project". After looking more closely at the rest of the reviews, this appears to be a contractor who wants the easy short jobs, not one you should use for detail work such as finish carpentry.

All repairs went smoothly and to out great satisfaction.

The work was fine and the guy who did was good.but I was quoted a price by Dan's office person and then it was nowhere what I was billed for. I spoke to the owner- Dan about the major problem and he would not take care of what I was gouged for. Don't Ever Do Business with this guy or any company he own or represents because you will get ripped off I guarantee it. Stay Away From This Ripoff Artist. I can assure you I will notify the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General.

This was the first time I used this company and I was very impressed. Everything was very efficient and professional. The company called back quickly and set up a visit to bid. The owner, Dan, came out and inspected the job and sent a bid by email that same night. The bid included a copy of his insurance and terms and conditions. It took about 10 days to start the work since they are pretty busy. The carpenter who came to the job knew exactly what needed to be done. He was an outstanding carpenter with lots of experience. They took the siding off and found water damage underneath. The location on the house was very difficult but he did the job without scaffolding. The deck was previously not up to code and they did everything to bring it up to code. The job ended up being about 25% higher than the bid, but this was very reasonable since additional damage was uncovered in the course of the job. I think its possible I could have gotten the work done for a little less but all told this was excellent value for the money given the high degree of professionalism and the excellent work done. Its also possible another company would have wanted to set up scaffolds and the price could have gone much higher. I look forward to getting additional work done in the future.

I requested a bid for home improvements. Mr. Landon refused to place a bid for the services requested. I called the office to ask if there was a problem. His secretary informed me that he felt that he would be out of my price range. Given that I did not give Mr. Landon a budget, I am unsure where this assumption came from. I do not want to speculate as to why someone would not even give a quote after visiting a home and seeing what would need to be done. I would have much preferred if he named some absurd fee and let me decide for myself if it was too expensive. If I take him at his word, Mr Landon is too expensive for any budget, in which case I would not recommend seeking his services. Otherwise, feel free to speculate, as I will have to as I have yet to receive any further updates from him.

Our home was built in 1911 and is certainly not built to the today's standard sizes. We had a tall and narrow archway that lead down to our basement and were looking to have a door installed. Before contacting HSH we had tried 3 other carpenters who each came out, said it would tough, shuffled their feet, gave wishy-washy answers and then were never heard from again despite multiple contact attempts. I understood this was a challenging job but lack of communication is a real pet peeve of mine. I contacted HSH after reading positive reviews on Angie's List and they came out to review our situation. Unlike the competitors, Dan was unafraid to deliver bad news. After looking everything over Dan said they would be unable to do the job. He clearly laid out why they could not complete the job for us. Bad news? Sure. Delivered honestly and on the spot? Definately. We now had actual information on why the job was so challenging. My wife was able to scour estate sales of old homes and finally find a door to fit into the space and get around the challenges Dan had laid out. After finding the door we gave Dan another call and he came out to do a second look. Sure enough, after the second review, Dan said he could complete the project. The work was done as promised and completed on time. The craftsman (sorry I forgot his name) was very considerate. As our house is 100+ years old it has unique framing/molding around all the doorways/floors etc. The craftsman took photos of our molding and then went out to find molding that would match the rest of the home. He was able to find molding that looks very similar to the original of the home. Overall the price was high, especially since we provided the door ourselves, but in the end the great communication and work left us happy customers that will return in the future.

The service worked out well. I was very happy with them. They were very thorough, professional, and detail oriented. They were very meticulous and paid good attention to small detail as they wanted to get everything right. They made sure that everything matched and I was happy with the work.

Dan kept my contact person updated on when the weather would allow them to do the work, at the earliest opportunity. They removed the remainder of the damaged gutter and board and replaced them both, taking time to match the color to the existing gutters. They arrived promptly on the set date, were friendly, were professional, didn't mind me asking questions, and cleaned up after the work was completed. The whole process took about 3 hours. I would use this service again and highly recommend them to others. I give them an A plus! My note: This is from a 83-year-old that is very RARELY pleased with anything.

I live in a multi-unit building. My front porch and rear deck have similar wood structures that are largely decorative. They reflect the era--the 1970s--during which the building was constructed. Made of cedar, they consist of posts and--well, clearly I'm not good at this--a long "box" made from boards. The front one had been replaced, but the back one was rotting. Animals had used it to gain access to the roof and birds had built nests in it after some of the upper boards came loose. I thought this structure was holding up the roof over my deck. As it turned out, that was not the case, but I knew I needed to have it replaced before it fell down. I turned to Angie's List, and the result was a very professional man confirming that my rotting structure was dangerous. He promptly prepared a written estimate that he e-mailed to me. The estimate was high for me because I'm on a fixed income. The work was going to cost twice what I had hoped it would. I could have gotten competitive estimates, but I chose not to because I was impressed with the owner of the company and winter was coming. I wanted the work done before snow fell. The job was scheduled in a matter of days, and the man who replaced and painted the wood (not the owner) showed up on time, worked hard, and was neat (I have no patience with contractors who leave messes) and polite. I would have been surprised if he hadn't been after meeting the owner. The only other thing was that I had to paint some very small areas of exposed wood where boards came together near the bottom. Something happened that required the contractor's attention on the last day of the job. I let the owner know that he had left bits of board exposed, but said it was not a big deal. I had the paint, and filling in the bare areas took me about a minute. I like the professionalism of this company and am glad to be a member of Angie's List so that I can find information before hiring a contractor. I would contact Home Solutions Handyman again, but I would obtain competitive bids because of my budget situation.

They are great to work with. They are prompt, cleaned up after themselves, and kept me up to date on the work.

Most of the work was done very quickly and professionally over a period of 3 days. Craftsmen arrived on time in the morning and cleaned up after work was done. We were very pleased with the door installation and other indoor and outdoor repairs. The only part of our job that was a bit of a hassle was a new toilet installation. A week after the toilet was installed it started to leak from the connection between the tank and seat. After contacting Dan, the craftsman returned once to attempt a repair. This repair was unsuccessful and the toilet continued to leak. It took several subsequent contact attempts, but the leak was eventually fixed and we are happy with the results.

After a prompt email response to my inquiry, Home Solutions Handyman arranged for an appointment to happen within several days. The worker arrived promptly. He was experienced, polite, and cordial. After examining the cabinets, he brainstormed possible actions with the cabinetry and then resolved the situation in the least disruptive way possible. The refrigerator fit into the new amount of space, the cabinetry looked like it always had with no modifications visible, the task was done in a very reasonable amount of time. Goal accomplished! We were all quite pleased.

Owner Dan responded promptly to give estimate which was a little high compared with 4 others we received but we went with him based on his ability to demonstrate his expertise re: the work required. We were satisfied with the worker (Dave?) who actually did the work - he seemed concerned with workmanship and attention to details to get the job done right. There seemed to be some issues involving communication between Dan and the worker, where Dan was pressuring the worker to finish more quickly; there were other jobs waiting. At one point, I was asked to settle up early before the work was completed, which I declined, although I understood the pressure to wrap our projects. One the whole, the workmanship was well-done, and I would use the company or the person who did the work again.

Work was done well and on time. There was one small issue with the 3 way switch, but was resolved ASAP. You may find less expensive companies, but I feel that you get what you pay for. Professionals that do it right the first time and don't trash your house

This started out very well - Dan the owner responded quickly but there was not much he could do on the first call. He turned the job over to his Kentucky representative who did most of the work. I have few complaints about the work but the job was not cheap. The biggest complaint I have with this company is they do not return customer phone calls. I called the main office and complained and was told by the representative that he was out of the area and did not get the call. However, the phone rang and his recorded message came on saying he was with a customer and I should leave a message. That does not sound like a message not received.

I originally asked for an estimate to have the water ionizer installed and an electric outlet installed under the kitchen sink. The appointment was made so I could come home at lunch to meet with him. He was on time, and very quick to review the area where I wanted the work done and looked at the ionizer and its requirements. He sent an estimate by email and I replied and set up the appointment. The men arrived and did the work as planned in the time stated. The water ionizer works well and the installation was done efficiently.

The replacement door was similar to the style of the existing one; the jambs and threshold were rebuilt. After the work was started it was found that the bandboard under the door, one floor joist end, and the sub-floor under the door was rotted so that was replaced as well. The door needs to have a secure structure to sit on for proper support. Exterior of door was given two coats of paint and the interior of door was given one coat of paint.

THIS JOB WAS QUITE EXTENSIVE REQUIRING SEVERAL DAYS TO COMPLETE . DESPITE BAD WEATHER IT WAS DONE VERY PROFESSIONALY AND WITH MINIMAL DISRUPTION. THE QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS JUST OUTSTANDING WITH GREAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL. IT WAS A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE PARTICULARLY DAVID THURBER WHO IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED HOME REPAIR AND IMPROVEMENT HANDYMEN I HAVE EVER MET. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH WITH THE INNOVATION SHOWN ON SOME VERY DIFFICULT PROBLEM AREAS ON MY HOME, I WILL DEFINATELY USE HOME SOLUTIONS HANDYMAN AGIN AS NEEDED

We chose Home Solutions from several companies which provided quotes for a few reasons: 1) Dan Landon was on-time and courteous during the estimating process; 2) he was the most professional and thorough in his estimates and 3) though not the lowest price, he was very competitive in his costs. His crew showed up the day promised and completed their work ahead of schedule. The quality of their craftsmanship was actually better than we expected (and we have high standards!) and they cleaned the area after completion. The next time we require "major" repair work, Dan will definitely be the first person we call.

Dan provided a detailed estimate promptly after I called his office. I made a couple of adjustments, which he incorporated into the terms. One of the two installations was a challenging install in a room with a vaulted ceiling and limited access. Work was done on the date promised, for the amount promised, in a very high quality manner. The fans appear as if they've been there since the home was built, even in the tough install. Have used Dan before and will do so again. Jim

The guy who came out really did a great job and I had promised him that I would say something good about him. I had called him and he literally came by within twenty four hours to have a look at the work and he had a bid back to me in twenty four hours. He started the work a week from when I had signed the papers and had it finished in under a week. It really actually was amazing and all the other referrals from every family member or friend, totally fell through and they either; never returned my call, or they came and had a look at the work, but never got a bid back or they would be so busy that they could not start my work for a really long time. I would use them again in the future if needed.
