GREAT EXPERIENCE! Furnace stopped working on Nov 10 and it was getting cold. I called for an estimate at 8am on 11/11 and a tech showed up by noon and gave me the news that I needed a new fan. He promptly ordered the part and gave me an estimate and timeframe of 11/12. Tech called to confirm and called to update me he was running late. He showed up, very professional and completed the work quickly then gave me the price that was 50$ less than the estimate! I would recommend Bockrath to ANYONE!

I did not use Bockrath based on their high price and no parts and labor warranty offered.
Description of Work: I used Bockrath for an estimate to purchase a new furnace. I thought their price was too high and they offered no patrs and labor warranty. I asked why this was, since my previous estimate offered a 10 year parts and labor warranty. I was told that Trane did not offer such a warranty. I was only offer a single stage furnace. A Trane XR model. When I got my next estimate. I was offered a top of the Line Trane 2 stage furnace with 15 year parts and labor warranty for the same price. Needless to say, it pays to get plenty of estmates. Buyer Beware.

Response from Bockrath Heating & Cooling
Member, Please review your estimate. It clearly states a 10 year Trane parts warranty & a standard 1 year, with an option for 10 year labor warranty. Sorry for any confusion with the estimate.

I will admit I was leary about purchasing the unit online without talking to anyone about it, so I called Bockrath about the installation prior to purchasing and they were very helpful in terms of helping me understand the size of humidifier I would need for my home. Once we had that discussion, I immediately went online and purchased a unit. I don't recall the exact date, but I did receive a phone call shortrly thereafter and we set a date and time for the installation. The installer was very courteous and professional. He worked with me to make sure I understood how to best utilize the humidifier for optimal performance. Also, I was most impressed that there were no hidden charges added onto the bill once the unit was installed I would recommend any service Bockrath Heating and Cooler offers in the future.
Description of Work: Bockrath installed a humidifier onto our furnace. Although at the time, we had not yet used the furnace to be able to gauge whether or not the humidifier is working properly. However, I have every reason to believe the humidifier will work just fine when we begin to use the furnace full time.

Excellent. They showed up promptly at 8 am on Monday morning. Quickly figured out that my heat was not working due to a bird being stuck in the motor. He cleaned out the bird, serviced and cleaned the rest of the furnace. Finished by 8:40 am.

He was very friendly, timely, and even provided some complimentary electrical work advice. I was a bit surprised by an unanticipated $55 travel charge on the first visit, but it probably was a 45 minute trip from their office in Milford. I just wish it was disclosed prior to the appointment. Overall though I was quite pleased with the service.
Description of Work: He came out for a standard furnace/humidifier inspection for the winter season. He discovered a leak in the inducer, gave me an estimate, and repaired the issue on the following visit.

Great job, good price. Highly recommend
Description of Work: We have a small condo (apx. 1300 sq ft). We were burning up in the summer and freezing in the winter. The guys from Bockrath came to our home and really investigated what our problems were and made suggestions on how ot fix them. The condo was not built well and left a lot to be desired regarding workmanship. The end result.... they made some huge fixes on the duckwork (we were losing a lot of the air to an open hole to the atic), and added a new well placed vent, replaced our old, rusting and might I add CHEAP AC unit with a Traine. They tested the heater and told us it still had 3 - 5 yrs. left (they could have tried to sell us on heating too but they didn't). Haven't had a lot of cold weather yet but based on new ductwork and added vent we are sure we will be a lot more comfortable hot or cold. I would use these guys again. There were there when they said they would be, did a great job and cleaned up afterwards.

It was a very very pleasant experience in dealing with Bockrath. I would recommend them to anyone. They stuck through there side of the bargain even though they had to eat the extra unexpected cost. Thank you Bockrath.
Description of Work: I purchased the "Big Deal" for the installation of whole home humidifier. On the scheduled date the installer arrived on time. However when I took the installer to our HVAC system in our basement he quickly determined that our system was not normal (One of the Return system was too small) and he would have to extend it so that the humidifier could be installed on it. He took the measurement and advised me that he will have to reschedule the appointment so that he can get the part. He also advised me that since my system was not "Normal" I would have to pay for the spare parts which would be around $50 - $60. We agreed on a new installation date the following week. After the installer was gone I looked at the "Big Deal" wording in detail. In the "Big Deal" there was no mention at all regarding extras etc. There was "fine print" also and it did not even mention anything about extras. I emailed Bockrath mentioning about it and I did not get a response (Reason for B in Responsiveness). The installer showed up on time on the scheduled day. Since I had not seen a response from Bockrath on my email, I was expecting and fully prepared to pay the cost of the "spare parts". However when the installer came in he mentioned that he had spoken to his boss and he said that they would cover the cost of the "spare parts". I was pleasantly surprised. Then I mentioned to him that I have two HVAC systems in my house. The second HVAC system was on the attic. I asked him if I could install a second system up on the attic. He said he cannot install it there as it would freeze. Then I asked him if this system would be able to cover my whole house (Around 4000 feet). He said that I could get a bigger humidifier (1099) installed than the one he was carrying. I asked him how much extra would it cost. The installer said he did not know about it and would have to ask his boss. After checking with his boss he said that the larger humidifier was also part of the deal and it would not cost me anything. The installer left to get the new humidifier. He came back in a couple of hours and completed the install.

Ken arrived on time and was kind and curteous. I am new to home ownership and have been having a strange sewer smell creep into the first floor of our house, that is attatched to our basement unit. We have only noticed this with the furnace being used and not with the AC during the summer. Of course we have had the plumber out multiple times with no avail. So, I thought I would run the issue by Ken while he was here. Not only did he service both of our units, but he went above and beyond looking for the possible source of the smell connected to our unit. He checked our sump pump, sink, toilet and drains in the basement making sure all of them had water in the trap and even added a trap to an area of our furnace where he thought there could be a possiblilty of sewer gas backing up into the furnace(that pipe is connected into our sump pump). He did all of

Our AC unit stopped working on a Friday night (8/24). On Saturday morning I called a couple companies to see if anyone could come out to fix it. Each company said they would be happy to help me but that since it was a weekend I would facing a higher price for the service call (usually over $100 just to come out). Bockrath was different -- their service charge was the same as during the week. Chris, the Bockrath professional who helped me, was professional, nice and right on time. He got my AC unit working within an hour and had the part that was needed to fix my unit right in his truck. I could not be happier with the service or the price and will recommend this company to any of my friends. The next time I need help with my AC or heating they will be the first company I call. Thanks Chris -- great job!

Our AC was turning on and the fan was working, but the air wasn't cold. We called to ask Bockrath Heating & Cooling to send someone out, and as I was describing the problem, Denny diagnosed the issue over the phone and waited on the line while we fixed it with his guidance. It was great to find someone so honest and helpful, and when our AC does need something we can't fix ourselves, we'll be calling him again.

Incredible is an understatement. This company is simply the best of the best. From the minute Ken arrived (service manager) for the estimate to the final check of the system, this was, without a doubt the best contracting experience we have ever had! We have an 80 year old house, and we own a one hundred year old rental house - we've had a lot of contractors do a lot of work over the years, but no one who could quite hold a candle to this company. I had 3 other estimates by A rated super service award winners from Angie's List. They were all good, but I had come across Bockrath's reviews and didn't want to make a decision without talking to them. All 4 estimates were so close together that it didn't matter. However, Bockrath's offered a much more complete overhaul of our ductwork for the money, and a more energy efficient air conditioner. The other 3 offered Bryant systems, with furnaces that matched the Trane on efficiency etc, but we felt the Trane had a better design to their heat exchanger, reducing the risk of failure of the heat exchanger. Warranties aside, failure of a heat exchanger is something we hope not to experience again. The others offered ACs with seer ratings in the 16-17 range - more expensive to run than the 20 SEER from Trane, but still a huge improvement over our old system. Ken originally quoted the standard air filter system for the furnace, but took time answering my questions about the air cleaner. We all have some mild to moderate seasonal allergies, which would not have swayed me toward the air cleaner, BUT when I compared the cost of the filters over the life of the unit, versus the easy cleaning of the air cleaner filters, we save money in the long run going with the clean effects air cleaner, plus we won't be dumping a used filter in the landfill every few months. and as dusty as our house is (hardwood flooring, pets, old house) keeping a filter clean is a frequent task, and a dirty filter is bad for the system. This air cleaner system is designed to still allow the airflow through even when it gets really dirty. Ken did not pressure us into the higher end models, he took his time assessing our system and making recommendations. A huge factor in upgrading to a 20 SEER AC was that Trane had a $600 rebate going for that one, making it only $400 to upgrade versus the $1000 price difference without the rebate. Ken did a much more thorough evaluation of our old system, explaining everything that was wrong with the ductwork and why we weren't getting comfortable temp control from our previous systems. The other 3 companies all had different areas of our ductwork that they were going to do, each a different portion of what Bockrath's did. And none of the other companies included the new supply vent and return vent from our basement rec room. Additionally, they signed us up for a program through the Cincinnati Energy Alliance which covered 35% of our work. In order to qualify for this, we had to have a CEA authorized contractor come in and seal the worst of the drafts in our home (they did blower door testing and reduced air infiltration by 21%. The program paid 35% of that bill as well. The program capped at $4200. We maxed it out, but it was well worth it. It was definitely more of a hassle for Bockrath to have to coordinate with this program - but they were great about doing it (the amounts listed were as quoted whether we used the program or not). Their estimate was right in the middle, actually they were only $60 higher than the lowest bidder when comparing the 16 SEER ACs, but they redid a lot more of the ductwork. 2 of the 3 other bidders we're also qualified to offer the rebate thought the CEA program, so we were really in a position to choose the best of the best. Additionally, they sent in paperwork to Duke Energy, which resulted in us receiving a $400 rebate from duke. The $11,043 price was AFTER the Trane rebates but before the Duke and CEA rebates. We consulted with my dad, a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer regarding our ductwork: he concurred that Bockrath was correct with all the ductwork changes they recommended and implemented. I knew from talking to Ken during the estimate that he truly knew what he was talking about - he didn't make me feel like it was a sales call, more like we were a team working to solve our heat and AC problems. It was nice, though, to have my dad confirm that he was right. Based on the install recommendations, my dad thought Bockrath had the best plan, hands down. The proof is in the pudding, though. I delayed writing this review to test the system out in the heat of the summer. From what I have heard on the news we have had high high heat and humidity this summer, but we wouldn't know it if we didn't hear it on the news! Our second floor, which used to run 8-10 degrees higher than our first floor, is now the same temp as the first floor. Our third floor, which was 20 or more degrees warmer, is now 8-10 degrees warmer. So, its not as comfy as the first and second floors, BUT given that the ductwork going theough the walls is undersized flex duct twisting and turning, and that there is no third floor air return and minimal second floor air return, its a much better improvement than we expected, and better than they had told us to expect. They under promised and over delivered - it doesn't get better than that. And the third floor room (my husbands study), while not as cool as the lower floors, is much better for humidity than it used to be, and comfortable enough that my husband has chosen to work from home in that room quite a bit this summer, something he couldn't have done with the old system. Our house is so cool and comfy, and our july bill dropped almost 17% from last year - even though during the same time period last year we were gone two and a half of those weeks, whereas this year, we were gone only one (system off when on vacation both years). So, the actual savings is even greater than reflected on the bill. We run the fan pretty much 24/7 (something we never did before) for the air cleaner, which uses very little energy. A surprising outcome of this air cleaner: yes, it actually has helped for the allergies - none of us have taken an allergy pill all summer, except on vacation (I was previously skeptical about air cleaners for allergies - I chose this one to have a reusable filter that I could keep clean without running to a store fore a new one or dumping old ones in a landfill). Happily, I found it is super easy to clean and our formerly always dusty home has barely any dust 3-4 weeks after dusting. Less housework - yay! Duke energy has been sending us a monthly letter evaluating our energy usage. Since Bockrath and the CEA company came in, our energy usage has been running only $10 a month more than the most energy efficient home (of comparable age and size) in the area. Oh yeah, the install. Everything went smoothly, quickly, efficiently. The install crew (Chris and Nathan) were very polite and professional. They maximized efficiency of floor space in installing the new system, a detail I hadn't even thought of. The system is installed in the basement laundry room, which also houses our dog kennels, storage shelving, and a freezer and small fridge, so space is at a premium. I was very pleasantly surprised, as I was by the thoughtful touches, like adding a pocket to the ductwork to house lull the paperwork for the system. They also took time making sure I knew which duct went to which room and helping to adjust the dampers for maximum performance (some of which will then be reversed for winter, so it was important to review this). Inspection took place a day later - the inspector seemed to be in a grumpy mood, hassling the electrician who was there installing an electric service panel, and tried to find something wrong with the system, or the installation, but ended up admiring the whole system. Passed inspection with flying colors.
Description of Work: Install new AC: Trane XL 20i 3 ton 20 SEER two stage Install new furnace: Trane XV 95 80,000 BTU 2 stage variable speed furnace 97% efficient. Install new Trane Clean Effects air cleaner Included in install was a new trane 3 tone case coil, a new line set, pad, disconnect, whip, breaker, and humidifier. Also included was a complete rebuild of almost all ductwork coming into the system from the points where the ducts went into the walls back to the system (no ducts were replaced inside walls). This was crucial as extremely poor ductwork design in our 80 year old house resulted in our previous systems underperforming. We didn't freeze in the winter, or collapse from heat stroke in the summer, but we didn't have a "comfort system". Especially in the summer. On top of rebuilding the existing ductwork, they added a damper to the one duct they didnt have to rebuild - it had been installed without one! And, they supplied a missing grate for a return duct. Finally, they rerouted a supply duct for our basement rec room and installed a completely new return duct for that room to maximize comfort, especially in the winter, when it is always chilly. Basically, they gutted our system and put in a completely new system. Read on to hear how they completely knocked it out of the ballpark!!! The cliff notes version: all 4 estimates were so close together that the difference was negligible. Bockrath's estimate was right in the middle, however, we got way more for our money with Bockrath. Their attention to detail and their thorough and high quality installation took our home from drafty and uncomfortable to cozy and very comfy - and despite the heat wave, our electric bill has gone down a lot! As a bonus, our allergies have not been evident this summer, AND our house has stayed MUCH less dusty.

It went real well under the circumstances. There was no hustle nor any shim-sham. The addressed the problem as it existerd and found a solution that fir the constraints of the situation. Good guys did good work. They have first crack at all my HVAC business from now on.
Description of Work: I have an old "Freon" based Heat Pump/Air Handler system that quit running. It was older and it needed to be replaced with a newer updated "Puron" standard system. The cost of doing so turned out to be quite fair, but far more than I had the current means of affording. They didn't split. They contemplated the most economical, and effective solution that would keep the system productive for a reasonable amount of additional few hears until I would eventually have to replace it with the newer "Puron" standard system.. They went with their hunch on where the Freon was leaking. It was located in the air handler area. They got the part, fixed it and billed me for $100 less than estimated, because they finished in less time the expected. All in 1/2 a day. My whole experience with Denny, the owner, and Ken, one of his 20 year employees, was the first time In a long time where I felt as though I was being dealt with in a totally straight and honest manner from beginning to end. Their "straight up and straight at you" type of approach to their services, the facts, the timing, and their costs was most refreshing. No hemming and hawing! I like that!

I was very satisfied with their work in replacing our HVAC system. In April we had an old 80% gas furnace and AC unit replaced with a Trane 16 SEER heat pump and 95% gas furnace. They redesigned the ducting in the basement to distribute the heat more evenly, and also went out of their way to accommodate putting the furnace inlet/outlet pipes out the side of the house instead of the back. They worked through their lunch break in order to have the system up and running that first night on this 2-day job, even though I wasn't expecting that. The job was completed on time, and their workmanship was high quality. Since the install, the heat pump and new thermostat have kept the house a lot more comfortable than the old system. Our electric bill for this June was 26% lower than last year, despite the recent heat wave. The size of the outside unit - 61 inches high including legs and pad - is the only downside. Not having any good placement options, such a large unit visually sticks out. Not a critique of Bockrath, as they installed what I requested and would certainly use them again, but something to consider if you're looking at a Trane AC or heat pump.

A/C unit wouldn't cool. Called service phone # in the late afternoon on Friday & left message - got a call back within the hour. An appointment was made for the following day - Saturday. Tech called 30 minutes prior to arrival as agreed. Problem was identified quickly. Part needed was on-hand in company vehicle. Diagnosis, repair and freon charge completed in 15 minutes or so. Unit worked well after technician's visit. Technician was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Grade for "Price" was a B because a $55 trip charge was assessed in addition to charging a minimum of 1 hour for labor. (Angie's List coupon was used to reduce trip charge to $30.)

I previously had a national company out who's goal was to get me to purchase a new A/C. I politely asked him to leave. I checked Angies List and came up with Bockrath. I called Ken and we scheduled an appointment. Ken thought I may need some extensive work but got out his gauges to check and make sure. He found I was a little light on freon and topped me off and I'm good to go for the season. Ken was straight forward and very knowledgeable and I'm very satisfied!

My AC went out on Thursday night heading into the memorial day long weekend. I called Bockrath @ 8AM Friday morning. Denny Bockrath answered the phone. He told me he would have a tech call me back shortly. I little while later a tech named Chris gave me a call and setup an appt for 2:30PM. Chris called me at 2PM to let me know he was heading my way. My unit had a burnt connector. He stripped the wire and reconnected the compressor. I told Chris that I was told by another company last year that the unit was failing. He said that when they start burning thru the connectors its a sign that the compressor is heading south. He recommended I keep an eye on it. No pressure to replace it etc. They saved my long weekend! I plan to have them quote a new unit.

At the beginning of the "warm season" I turned on the A/C and it would only run for about 5 minutes then shut off then restart. I turned it off and phoned Bockrath the next morning. They came that very afternoon, tightened the connections, and serviced the A/C. This was my first experience with the company. Not only was I satisfied with the service, I was highly impressed that they made time for me so quickly.

Chris & Nathan arrived promptly for this routine service call. They were mindful of covering their shoes with paper booties each time they entered the house. They checked the unit in the basement first, and also drained the hot water heater when I asked them to. They spent a lot of time with the outside compressor unit. They discovered that it had been installed right in front of the dryer vent, so it was full of lint. No other HVAC service provider had ever pointed that out. They hosed it out well & discussed several options for remedying the situation. They suggested I investigate moving the vent first, but offered that they could move the unit if we have to. I'm checking on the options now. I appreciated their thoroughness.

Very pleased with this company! After a relative installed our brand new heat pump system, we were still having problems with the system not cooling. The tech (Ken) was able to find the problem that was missed during the install that even a prior tech from another company missed. The other company tech also said it was low on freon, we opted to delay that due to the high cost. So glad I made that decision, as that turned out not to be correct. Now enjoying my new unit with nice cool air the way it is supposed to work. Will use again, highly recommend!

Ken, was the HV/AC technician who attended my call He was there before time and got the capacitor changed in 5 mins. He mentioned since the rate was hourly he would actually take a look at the running unit. I am so glad he did that, He went outside and returned saying that somehow the mode was set to pump in heat and it wasn't at all cooling.. Which kind of shocked me.. I provided him the Aprilaire owners and installation manual.. and he found the problem in a minute. The installation done by Service pro was wrong and I had him recheck all the settings. He was very very well informed and answered all my questions. He also checked the HV AC unit and came back saying it was pretty low on refrigerant, which he helped with as well. This service call yielded two great results 1> I now know who I would call for any issues with my HV/AC unit in a hearbeat. 2> I will stay far away from service pros or any installation deals from them.. Maybe my luck was bad and I did not get the best technician. I thoroughly respect the honesty, promptness and knowledge that this particular technician demostrated which hard to find these days, and Goes a long way for me.. Absolutely recommend their services to anyone and by all means they will be my go to HAV/AC technicians.
Description of Work: I recently got a Aprilaire programmable thermostat.. by Service Pro, during installation it was informed that the capacitor had to be replaced. I decided to try some other technician since I did not feel very comfortable going with Sevice Pros mainly due to their rates being pretty excessive for parts which should not cost as much. I contacted Bockrath Heating & Cooling to check on an estimate for the same work, it came to be lesser than quoted by Service pro..

I had been wanting a geothermal heating system for several years. The biggest obstacle for me was finding someone who installs geothermal systems I could trust to do a quality job. I knew people that had problems with their geothermal systems and also had problems finding a company that would stand by their work. I found Bockrath on Angie's list. From the first phone call with Denny Bockrath he was very open and took the time to answer all of my questions. At the time of my first call my wife and I determined that though interested in geothermal we were not ready to move ahead because of other commiitments. Denny Bockrath was very patient and told us to call when we were ready and that their shouldn't be any significant price increase because of waiting. About nine months later we decided to move ahead. Denny showed up with an estimate consistent with the first and again answered all of my questions (2 pages worth). He also did not pressure us to upgrade with additional accessories and gave us the information we needed and left the decision of to us. We also discussed the companies that would do the drilling of the wells and install the hot water system. I emphasized how important it was for me to have a quality installation. Since the wells were going to be in my front yard I was especially concerned with an existing retaining wall and that the well driller respected my neighbor's lawn. I was also concerned with the rock dust from drilling of the four, 200 foot deep wells since others have experienced huge dust clouds over their neighborhoods. Denny made arrangements for the well driller to come out to listen to my concerns and answer my questions. The geothermal installation consisted of installation of the equipment in my basement including the hot water tanks, drilling of the wells in my front yard and then connecting the wells to the equipment in the basement. All phases of the project went extremely well. The equipment installation is exceptionally professional. Everyone one took the extra step to keep the installation neat. The drilling went without any problems. The drilling rig had a dust collection system as promised and there was minimal dust from the drilling. Those doing the trenching were meticulous about keeping the soil off of my neighbors lawn even though it was some extra effort on their part. I have absolutely no complaints from the installation process. I was amazed at how all of the 10 persons from 3 different companies were all completely reliable and professional. During the first week after the geothermal system was operating a problem occurred and Denny and his staff responded within a day and fixed the problem. I have total confidence that I can rely on Bockrath to handle and problems and concerns I have. I can't imagine how any major project like this could have been handled better.
