Runyon & Sons Roofing

The project took July and August. It was a pretty extensive project. They did a great job. They were very polite all the way from the salesman down to the workers. They did a nice job of cleaning up at the end of every day. They didn't leave a big mess considering the amount of work they did. I would highly recommend them. I did have some cheaper quotes so they were not the cheapest.

Initially a sub-contractor was used (first time this sub was used by Runyon) . The quality of the work was very sub-standard. I contacted Clyde Runyon, he agreed that the work was not up to normal standards. The sub was removed from the job and Runyon's employees were brought in to correct the problems (replacing 1/2 - 3/4 of the siding previosly installed). The job eventually was completed. New gutters were installed. The original job was scheduled to take 5-7 working days, but eventually took over 20 working days. All of the additional work was done at NO cost to me. Clyde Runyon & his employees made every effort to work with me in an effort to provide a competed job that met normal standards. Although there was a lot of frustration involved, Clyde Runyon always worked with me.

The above date is approximate. The project went well. There were no problems.

Estimate for 2 layer tear-off, 4 valleys, large chimney. They were very professional, responsive and seemed like a very high quality company but the bid was just too much compared to several other roofing companies. In fact they were probably the most responsive out of all companies we contacted. They would have been 1st choice if not for price.

We did that to alleviate a very severe icicle problem that we have every winter. We had that done a couple of years ago. This past winter we still had icicles so we got somebody out to take a look at the issue. I told them I wanted this taken care of as it is still an issue. I rent half of the property and I obviously don't want icicles coming down and hurting anybody at the back of the house. We don't have any awning or entry way at the back doors of the house. They came and looked at it and decided that they would check it out and they found a couple of things. They added some new insulation and they didn't charge me for that which was good. They added new insulation in the roof to improve the insulation in the attic and while they were out there they found that the ridge which was a part of the roof was crushed. They offered me a quote to replace that as that will provide more ventilation. While they were inside the roof they blocked off a gable vent in one part of the house. The gable vent was competing for ventilation. They said the ventilation was not going up through the roof and through the ridge because the gable vent was coming in and providing competition for the ventilation which did make sense. They found half the ridge vent crushed so they gave me a quote on replacing that and they came and replaced that. I was very pleased with the work that was done. We have to wait and see till next winter to see if the icicles are any better with the new ridge vent and improved ventilation. I also had them come out and give me a quote on my chimney because my chimney is deteriorating and I needed to get it looked at and get a quote for it to be either repaired or replaced. They were the most competitive and most thorough of the three or four quotes that I got. These guys I was more familiar with. I would probably end up going with them for the chimney work when I do get it done. It was most comprehensive. They would take it down to the roof line, put the ice guards at the roof line, and redo the border between the roof and the chimney, the crick around the outside of the back and rebuild the chimney back. The price was very reasonable for that.

Excellent job! We were impressed with how well we were treated by the company personnel from beginning to end and were happy to discover that the solution they offered to excessive ice cycles and snow build-up over our back door actually worked.

I included provisions in the contract that there would be No yard sign, No radio on the job site, and No shouting between the workman. They respected each of those conditions, and were it not for the unavoidable equipment noise, you wouldn't know they were here. Several neighbors commented on that very point. Runyon and Sons Roofing most often is more expensive than their competition, and in this case, I had a written estimate from another popular roofing company that was 25% less. However, I knew from prior experience that we would be totally satisfied with the end result choosing Runyon, and we are.

Called Runyon on a recomendation. One of the owners came out and was very nice, Knowledgeable and thourough. We made an appointment to go over the estimate for the following week. He did call to cancel and said he would re-schedule.This was October of 2009. Winter came and I did not hear from them. I put 2 calls in the organization in the last month (May 2010) and have not heard back. I am now going with the another outfit

I met with the roofer on July 13, 2009. I requested his evaluation of my current roof. I was impressed with his thoroughness and knowledge. I asked him for an estimate. I did not hear back from him for one month in spite of having left a message two weeks earlier. When I did hear from him, he wanted to set up another appointment with me. After deciding to go with another company, I canceled the appointment. I never received an oral or written estimate of any kind.

We have an older home - 1913 - which had originally had a slate roof, which had previously been removed when a roof was installed before. We also had expanded the kitchen and made other modifications to the roof line years ago which resulted in occasional ice dams and leakage in winter. We wanted the type of roof which resembles slate. Runyan had experience with the product we liked, in fact we found the name on the manufacturer's website. A thorough inspection of the roof was made - including climbing on all the surfaces - before the estimate was given to us. We were presented with three options at 3 price ranges. We were also given addresses to go and look at the shingle choices on an actual house to get a better idea of what it would look like when done (in fact, we changed our selection as a result). We gained a lot of confidence just from the presentation of the estimate, and the workmen lived up to the presentation. They appeared early each day, worked hard all day and left our property spotless and free of debris every night when they left. They inspected the property and wanted us to assure them we were 100% satisfied before they asked for the final payment. There were extra charges for the boards that had to be replaced but they advised us of those figures as they made the replacements and there were no surprises at the end. The finished roof and copper flashing looks even bettter than we imagined. We couldn't be more pleased.

Needed a complete re-roof on my home and called for an estimate. They didn't show on the day scheduled but called and wanted to reschedule because of rain. No problem, I was off the following Monday and we agreed on that. They never showed and did not call. When I called the office they refused to help and would only give me voicemail. We finally did meet, measurements taken and almost 3 weeks later no estimate. I have called twice and left urgent voicemail (the roof is leaking!) with no response. I was also promised an email list of homes in my area that I could check which has not come. They seem to know what they're talking about if you can get them to respond? Customer service is lousy!

We have been customers of this company, we called them three times this fall for work to be done and they never called back. They have been a little bit slow in response in the past but never like this.

The job was excellent! I would highly recommend them. They are reliable and thorough. Their estimator looked at all facets of the job and was very thorough in the estimate.

This company did an excellent job from start to finish. They explained all areas in great detail what the work would be. They worked in a professional manner & the clean-up was perfect.

They had my 25% deposit for four months before work started. They refused to paint the ceiling where plaster and paint had been vibrated off from work on the roof and pointed out a waiver for all inside damage on cathedral ceilings. They were very courteous and the dimensional shingle gives the roof an attractive appearance.

Runyon Roofing is a very well run company. I've been a home owner for 27 years and have dealt with many contractors in those years and Runyon Roofing rates right at the top for overall service quality. Runyon will not likely be your low bidder because they use top-notch people and materials and have been in business since 1964. Their price was competitive with another well-established local roofing company though so they are reasonable given their quality, history and the company's longevity. Runyon followed the pre-set timetable well and had great communication with me about a large hidden problem that came up. My old roof was never properly vented and required over 300 sq ft of roof deck replacement plus the addition of baffles between the inner insulation and the roof deck to flow the hot, moist air up to the new ridge vents. My house is now noticeably cooler upstairs in this 90 degree Ohio weather this June due to the addition of ridge vents and baffles that Runyon installed. Yes it added another $1000 to the bill, but it had to be done to do the job right. The salesman suggested a few improvements to my well-worn wooden dormer fascia (replaced old wood with matching siding instead) and the removal of an ugly metal faux chimney around my roof s heater flue. I had not considered these ideas before the rep brought them up. The extra work ran up the bill another grand, but the finished roof looks so good that I am so glad I spent the extra bucks. My roof is flat-out beautiful to behold now. Plus, I had Runyon install a GAF roof system from the manufacturer, that is inspected by them after completion and guaranteed by them against any leaks for 15 years, all labor and materials included. It s called the GAF Gold Pledge Roof System. In conclusion, I am obviously very satisfied with my new roof and Runyon & Sons Roofing. I can recommend them without hesitation.

I have a ranch style home so it was a little more expensive. There were a few odds an ends that could have been better but overall i was satisfied.

VERY PROFESSIONAL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE USED RUNYON.

Don't use this company, it took many calls to get the first estimate. I spoke at length about the garage problem when he visited, but Mark forgot apparently. My reason for calling this company was primarily snow coming off the garage, the estimation only included the house but it was written in a way that one would think both the roof and garage were included. It was my memory verses his, so I didn't complain. In late October of 06, I called them and requested a estimate for the garage it took 6 calls to get him to the house. Same for the estimate 6 weeks. He said he would call in 2 weeks. He never called, in fact he lead me on from Nov till April. I have called at least 12 times in late Feb, he said they would be here to complete the job the first descent day and never showed. Now I can't determine if the original heat cable installed on the roof works or not. I had the electrical work done but the garage must be done before its tested. The garage is still not completed!!

They took the time and effort to give a good quote and did a good job.

Everything took longer than estimated because of a problem with ordering and obtaining soffit material and some delays with personnel availability. Workers very polite, helpful, friendly, respectful and knowledgeable. Site left very clean. Price seems high but so is quality. B grade because of delays.

Outstanding performance. Very expensive but Runyon understands roofing better than several other roofers we considered. The Camelot shingles are gorgeous. We have worked with many subcontractors over the course of our project and their workmanship has been excellent. They accept responsibility for their work and their status as a GAF master roofer shows in their daily work.

We called when Todd was over an hour late for our appointment. He called us back and said there was a computer scheduling error but he would come. He showed up much later than he indicated. Todd went on the roof and spent a considerable time up there and then explained the work that was needed and answered many of our questions. He seemed very knowledgeable. He told us he would write up an estimate and get it to us the following week. We called the following week to inquire about it and he said he would drop it off. We left messages but never received the written estimate. We had been very impressed with his presentation and were seriously considering them to do our job, so it is unfortunate that this occurred.

They were very polite and kept the area very clean. The price was a little high.

We were VERY grateful to Mr. McIntyre. Another company had told us we needed a whole new roof and Mr. McIntyre gave us very different advice including adding insulation that would help our situation. He took photos so we could see things that were up on the roof that we had not been aware of. In their packet, Runyon also included some consumer information I found helpful.
