Brookside Lawn Service has been treating lawns since 1989. Our success comes from taking the hassle out of having a dark green, weed free lawn, as well as exceeding our client’s expectations!
Recently, exercised their professionalism by a notice in the mail. A notice said that aeration was against best practice this spring because the ground is like pudding due to the heavy snow melt and recent heavy rains. Unless the customer asks for Spring aeration, it is being postponed to Fall season. I respect a small business who lives season-to-season on predictable cash flow. This delay will not be as healthy for their business, as it may be for my lawn. I suspect this sets Brookside Lawn Services apart from many of their competitors.
Description of Work: Seasonal application of fertilizer and week killer, and annual aeration. Advanced notice without fail, punctual, quick, and without unnecessary disturbance of the adjacent properties. Reliable and fair.

Last falls application went well, and they stayed in contact through the winter and contacted me with offers for this year . Super business model, in an industry filled with rude, double charging scams & pressure contracts. Brookside is NONE of these,
Description of Work: They are spraying the yard ( 3 acre property ) 5 times a year, for weeds, fertilization etc. Outstanding service. I ask them to call me before they come out to treat and they do. Give them a try. I don't think you will regret it.

While overall I found Brookside Lawn Service to be a better than average service provider, I lost trust this Spring when I received a call on 4/1 to indicate that they were going to increase my price of tree and shrub applications by 64%. The customer service representative indicated that while on a service call they noticed that I had 73 trees and shrubs versus the 35 which was being billed. My problem is that they came to my property last year to provide the quote for service and the pricing was established on their count of my trees and shrubs. I have not made any changes in my landscape over the past year since they provided the quote. As indicated earlier, overall I think they did a relatively decent job with my lawn as it was newly planted last Spring and is pretty full and without weeds this Spring. I have not been as satisfied with the tree and shrub services as I did not see the same level of growth and health throughout last Summer/Fall.

They did notify me before each application and were pleasant to work with, but my lawn looked lousy. My neighbors' either side had better looking lawns and neither had any lawn care. This year I plan to use a different lawn care company.

12 Months of Agony... Brought to you by Brookside Lawn Service. ~Early March 2013: The and quot;expertand quot; I first spoke with seemed very knowledgeable. He was eager to get my business and answered all my questions. I had some bare spots in my lawn and he suggested overseeding--but specifically stated that it should be done prior to any fertilization treatments to avoid interfering with the seed growth. I was eager to get started and sent in my contract. I called several times once the weather broke to find out when they'd be coming. They assured me I was on their schedule. I called again and they assured me i was on their schedule. ~Early April 2013: I arrived home from work one evening to find the Brookside truck on the curb with the technician unraveling a hose preparing to apply some type of fertilization or weed control. I asked him if he had already done the overseeding and aereation and he had no idea what I was talking about. I sent him away and asked him to talk to the people in the office so they could get everything straightened out. ~Mid April 2013: I called 2-3 times in the next 2-3 weeks to find out when they'd be coming back. They assured me I was on their schedule. It was a wet spring, so I did understand that they were also waiting for appropriate weather before attempting to aerate. ~April 27, 2013: I was not home this time, and another tech came to apply fertilization PRIOR to the overseeding and aeration. My wife was home though, but she was tied up on a work call and was not able to get outside to stop him. She had enough time to text me though, so i got on the phone immediately and spoke to someone in the and quot;dispatchand quot; department (She went by and quot;miss pattyand quot;). I asked who was at my property and what they were doing. She was unable to tell me who--or what he was applying! Instead she told me she'd have to look into it and get back to me. I insisted on getting a call back from the owner or her manager. Instead, I got a call from Cody, supervisor of the lawn techs. Not was I asked for or expected. He did confirm in a voicemail that his guy missed the note on my invoice and they did apply weed killer--and that it would delay my overseeding and aeration by 10-14 days. ~May 2013: After getting no satisfactory explanation for the complete lack of communication WITHIN the company, or with me, we decided that we were done and we proceeded to start a lawn program with another company. If they could not communicate effectively internally, or with me as a customer, I did not want to enter into a long-term relationship with them. Granted, I probably avoided their calls for a month or two because I was simply fed up with them. But they persisted to call and by the time the fall came around, the calls turned into collections calls for the one treatment that they applied outside of the agreement that we had come to. ~Fall 2013: I finally returned one of their calls to address the collection attempts. I believe I was talking to Patty again. She was sympathetic to my plight, but did not offer any concessions on their part. I still did not pay ~December 2013: They continued to call and to send collection letters. I had a nice conversation with a woman who assured me that my experience was the exception and not the norm. I gladly listened and told her I understood and I was quite confident that they do excellent business with 100s of customers--I just did not happen to be one of them this time around. She wanted to assure me that just because they went and quot;out of orderand quot; with my program, there was no harm and it was a simple mistake. While I can accept that on the surface, it was not one simple mistake. It was a series of repeated mistakes, misinformation, and mishandling of the situation which led me to my current position. I told her the only thing that would make me happy at this point was to wash my hands of the relationship--and frankly, I may be willing to give them a try again in a few years if I was in the market again. But not now. She reluctantly agreed to part as friends and even agreed to send me a letter showing that my account balance had been forgiven/wiped clean. At that point, I didn't much care about the letter, but it was a nice gesture. ~January 2014: Well, I should have known better. a.) I never got that nice letter indicating that my balance had been cleared. b.) instead, I got a long typed letter summarizing their version of events, ultimately requesting the payment again. I ignored the letter, along with the next phone call or two because I knew what to expect. ~February 2014: It just gets better. I get a call from my wife letting me know that someone from Brookside is at the door. She was again working and unable to get the door, so she did not get to hear what he wanted. I get home later to find that they left a bag of candy along with paperwork to start a new contract in 2014! These people seriously have no idea what is going on in their own house. The calls continued so I decide to answer one of them. Surprise! Its a collections call! I reluctantly rehashed the same conversation I had previously and asked about my balance being forgiven. Oh no, she said, your balance was not wiped out, we just wiped out the interest on your overdue account. Their benevolence was overwhelming. But I was not amused. I assured her that she would not be getting a penny from me and that was it. If she wanted to send me to a collections agency, that was certainly her prerogative, but there was no reason to call me further. March 3, 2013: Got another voicemail from Patty today. She wanted me to call her regarding my account. ?? Well, I'm apparently a slow learner, because just I called her back. Our delightful conversation is actually what spurred this review. I was just hoping that by some miracle, they had gotten their act together and they were going to let me know they had finally given me a clean slate--or maybe they were going to ask if they could get a new contract with me this year, and offer me some sort of discount as an inducement.... Yeah right. It was as though we had never spoken about the circumstances surrounding my outstanding invoice. She started from the beginning and wanted to rehash the entire thing over again. But this time, they ARE feeling benevolent. They offered to SPLIT the invoice with me! Seriously? What kind of company is going to humiliate themselves AND infuriate a customer, just to collect a measly $85.00? Are they that desperate for cashflow? Trust me that the money is the last of my worries. I could have avoided all this hassle by paying their invoice initially. Or I could (potentially) make it go away today by paying them 1/2 the invoice. But no. Its not going to happen. I'll stand my ground and gladly share this story with as many people are willing to listen. Luckily, now that I've finally taken the time to document my ordeal, I can just copy-n-paste :) Good luck. And for the record, I can highly recommend Meehan's Lawn Service.

Description of Work: Provider just dropped off the 3rd solicitation via paper and the 6th solicitation overall for fertilization services even after I have contacted them 3 times and asked to be taken off their solicitation list. I hired this company in the spring of 2012 to clear my yard of weeds and green my grass. I received advertisements from a few different companies and chose this one because it was a local company.. They surveyed my property online and gave me a price based on the property dimensions on the county auditors website.. I specifically asked them to come look at my lawn and the state that it was in to determine what would take to clear the weeds up and make my lawn green. I was told that if they came out in person then they would physically measure my yard which may make the price go up. I agreed, had them come out and physically survey my yard. I was assured that the 7 step program would show me a difference in the first year. The priced did end up being a few dollars higher because my yard did measure larger than originally quoted. I signed up too late for the first step but was assured that I was ok to start at step 2 and still achieve the results that I wanted... They came out last year as promised and left me the info after every treatment. I watered regularly and always keep my lawn cut high (3 - 4 inches). The last step was an aeration and winterization, at their recommendation they double aerated the front lawn. I did notice less weeds last year but did have to call them out for spot weed spraying between treatments. This spring I had the worst amount of dandelions that I had ever seen even more than my next door neighbor who has never treated his lawn. I had called them out to look at my lawn and the technician even admitted that this was the worse case that he had ever seen. I showed him 3 neighbors lawns within eyesight that treat their lawns (different companies) and NO DANDELIONS. He didn't want to spray due to the high winds that day but after we had talked for a few minutes (and I pointed out that there was no current breeze) he agreed to spray my lawn and went over it aggressively with a motorized buggy attached to a sprayer system. I was told that the dandelions would curl and die within a weeks time which they did at the very same rate that my next door neighbors did without treatment. In the late spring/early summer is when I had enough.. My grass was looking horrible, burnt looking, yellowing and full of crab grass. I called the company and requested a second look at my yard because I was paying a lot of money and getting no results. I tried to set a time that I could be there too due to my frustration with the lawn and my demanding work schedule. I was told that I wouldn't have to be there and that they would come out, make an assessment and then contact me with the results. A few days later they came out, when I was at work, and made their assessment. I was left a door tag that stated that the weather patterns and some red thread grass disease was the reason for the appearance of my lawn, no mention of the patches of long rye grass that grows 4 times as fast as my other grass or the crab grass issues. It also stated that I would need a soil sample at the cost of $30 to further figure out how to treat my lawn.. I feel that they paid no attention to my lawns specific needs and just kept throwing the same thing at it with no results and then wanting me to pay an additional cost to figure out why the treatments weren't working. This is frustrating because I was never offered a soil sample in the spring of 2012 before the first treatment started, rather I was assured that I would have green, weed free grass that very year. On 2 separate occasions when I mentioned the company that was treating a couple of my other neighbor's lawns I was told that that company was and quot;the Walmart of lawn care companiesand quot; and I didn't want to use them. I have since switched to and quot;themand quot; and my lawn is now starting to come back.

We use Brookside for lawn care applications. They come 5-6 times a year and our lawn looks great, even when others are browning. My only complaint is that they came out this year to apply the first application without calling to verify that I still wanted the service. I was going to call them anyway to set it up, but it just rubbed me the wrong way. Otherwise, we're happy with the service.

They are terrific. We continue to use them. They are reliable. They always call the day before to let you know they are going to come out. If the weeds pop up in the interim they come out free of charge and spray them. They make adjustments if they need to or if you are on vacation. If you have any questions they answer them. Even off-season, in winter, you can call them and someone always answers the phone. All their workers are pleasant and professional.

We called to schedule our lawn aereation. We have used Brookside in the past for this service and lawn fungus problems. We have a watering system, so we asked to please let us know a day or two before they came so we could mark our sprinklers. We received a call the day they were coming, and luckily we were able to put flags out. The front yard was done very well. The plugs in the back yard were very shallow, to the point you couldn't tell it had been done in parts of the yard. We called to say we would either pay half the bill or asked to have the back yard done again. They said they would talk to the person who performed the service in their company and let us know. They called back and said our yard was very dry and hard and that is why the plugs were so small, but they would aereate the back yard again. As I said, our yard has a sprinker system, and we used it every other day all summer, so whomever told them it was very dry was incorrect. They returned and did the service and it was fine the second time.

Description of Work: I called them as I was seeing a lot of Japanese Beetles on my plants..they quoted me the $59.99 price to come out and spray for insects..they made a initial trip to see how many trees and bushes I had... A week later they came and really did a great job on spraying all my plants and trees.. I have seen very very few insects or beetles since that time.. The Technician left a nice note telling me what he had done.. Brookside also does my fertilizing of the lawn..They do a wonderful job...My weeds are gone and the lawn looks perfect !! We have been very pleased with Brookside overall. The office staff is friendly and helpful and because of the many weeds (never previously treated), we have had to call them back out twice to "spot" weed. There was no additional charge, the ladies in the office couldn't have been nicer, and the service call was performed promptly. It seems clear that customer service is very important to them.

They come out from as early as April until September. They spread the application and leave the bill on the door for me. You can pay for it all if you want up front and receive a 10% discount. They also give a referral discount. You can also call for additional products like extermination. I used that service once and was very happy. It too was reasonable. Again, Great company. Good work.
Description of Work: I've been using Brookside Lawn Service for fertilization and weed control in my front yard for many years. They do a very good job and I found to be the best price in town. All emloyees are very courteous. They do a 5 step program for me. My neighbor applies his own fertilization and it isn't as good as Brookside. He still has dandelions. My lawn looks impeccable. In fact the neighbor to the right of me who has a corner lot starting using them last year and she is very happy with them also.

They did a good job. They are good communicators and they are compatibly priced. They seem to have good system for notification and good reputation. Other people have enjoyed using them to. They usually come during the day to work. They were some misunderstanding when they had to start the service and they started the service early and they charged me for it which they shouldn't have actually charged me for the work, other wise they are good. Response from Brookside Lawn Service
We are so disappointed and concerned that we failed to clearly communicate with Member. We take every situation to learn from any mistakes we may have made. During last July, we experienced hot and humid weather. Many lawns suffered drought stress (Brown grass). As you can imagine, it is very frustrating to have brown grass, even during summer hot and dry spells.
