Great Day Improvements (Patio Enclosures) + measured very well (i.e. within a 1/2 inch of the original window width) + manufactured as indicated during the original presentation and subsequent engineering measurement + installed including replacing ALL the interior components of the wall (i.e. 2/4s, insulation, window framing, etc.) that had been damaged by the leaking original window! The manufacture went according to plan just about to the very day estimated. The install went VERY well, as a matter fact, it was wonderful and the result ABSOLUTELY great!! The installers were conscientious, professional and careful with current interior flooring and the exterior finish and trim. We now have a window that looks great and is guaranteed for as long as we own our home! Hard to beat!! Our new window was installed in about 3 days and looks fabulous! THANKS Great Day Improvements (Patio Enclosures)!
Description of Work: Our goal: to replace the LEAKING garden-style kitchen window (aka solarium window) BEFORE the leaking caused any more damage to the walls and window support than we’d already seen or guessed what had already happened behind the walls beneath the window. FYI, a garden-style window is a window wall that continues – with windows ‘to the sky; versus using skylights to see the trees thru ones roof – if you can imagine that. Our garden-style window is composed of 4 window panels that are 29" wide by 63" high, topped by 4 ceiling panels (to match the current roof line) that are 29" wide by 24" tall. Perhaps a picture would show what I mean better than I can describe with words… FYI: The window was part of construction when the home was built in 1988. The window was a name-brand window that the manufacturer quit producing after a number of years since they could not stop it from leaking some years after original installation. We wanted to replace the window with a window of the same size and style but had a difficult time finding someone who manufactured a window of this style. We also wanted to use the current interior wood trim as well as have the window framing match the window trim and cabinetry in the kitchen. We found NO one who could replace the window with one of similar style - UNTIL we found Great Day Improvements (Patio Enclosures) at the Home Show at the IX Center in early 2012. What's more, their window had a new option ... textured interior framing that emulated the oak grain wood of our original trim as well as kitchen cabinets in color AND wood grain. NO ONE knows it is textured aluminum and NOT wood :) Great Day Improvements (Patio Enclosures) visited our home to carefully describe their garden-style windows, their manufacturing process, the measurement and installation process – from start to completion … that is, measurement, manufacture, installation. Payments were to be made in thirds, with 1/3 due at order; the second payment due at manufacture and the final at installation. The resulting work order described the window size, the type of glass (Solarian 70VT, double-pane, filled with argon gas, safety & tempered) with wood grain glazing.

Project chronology: 4/30/12 Signed contract, made 30% down payment. 6/20/12 No word; called them, they said ?waiting for permits? 7/2/12 Demolition of old solarium began 7/6/12 Demolition completed 7/9/12 Prepped foundation for new concrete pad pour (rebar holes drilled in existing footers, insulation laid down, reinforcing wire installed) 7/10/12 Hydronic heating tubing installed (by owner) 7/13/12 Building inspector okayed pad for pour 7/19/12 Poured new concrete pad (in a downpour) 7/27/12 Ground pad with concrete grinder to remove soft spots due to diluted concrete (at my insistence) 8/6/12 Started sunroom installation 8/10/12 Completed mechanical work 8/21/12 Electrical work completed 8/25/12 Corrected improper width measurement 8/29/12 Fixed leaks in roof Comments on demo and concrete pad installation: Great Day Improvements (GDI) did not grout in the rebar that was used to tie the old footer to the new pad. I had to do that myself. The old footer surface was left covered with gravel, which would have prevented a good bond with the new concrete. I had to insist they clean it off before the pour. Great Day used cheaper EPS foam insulation in floor instead of higher quality, denser XPS foam. Poured concrete while raining despite bldg inspector?s comment ?rain predicted?; foreman?s response at the time was ?only need a 5 hour window?. They missed their window in the middle of a drought. Afraid the surface will not hold up. Stopped concrete pour when rain started. Had to wait so long, sent the mixer/truck home and later that day they had to go out and buy/hand mix 2-3 bags of concrete mix to finish the pour. Even after cautioning their equipment operator not to drive heavy equipment over a buried water line, they did it anyway. Dug it up to verify no damage done, buy why not avoid the hassle? I did part of the demolition myself for fear they would damage my bifold door framing (interfaces sunroom with house). Comments on sunroom construction: At end of 2nd day (8/7), noted lots of vinyl and aluminum ?sawdust? on the ground in my back yard, which is where my 3 dogs go to play. Asked them what they would do about it and they said they would shop vac it up at the end of the project. When it rained on the next two days, that was their excuse not to clean up the small debris, which sort of makes you think twice about walking barefoot in your back yard. So far the dogs are okay? Sunroom was built approximately ¾? wider (3/8? at each end) than it should have been, forcing GDI to install spacers and lots of caulk to correct their error. It looks okay and so far, it seems to be holding up but over a minimum 10 year lifespan I have my doubts. Leak appeared in roof at first rainstorm following completion. GDI came out and fixed it in a timely manner ? again, using lots of caulk. Since onset of winter and snow, have noticed effects of poorly insulated ceiling and walls with poor thermal breaks: ice dams in the sunroom gutter, and condensation on my new hardwood floor. See attached photos. GDI came out and installed insulation in the spaces between the windows this past spring (2013). The guys doing the work admitted this should have been done during the initial install. One year later... I installed a woodburning stove in the corner of the sunroom in August of 2013. The chimney exited through the eave of the room, not through the new enclosure roof, so if there were any leaks around it they would be my fault...I thought. (see photo) Initially I did have some flashing leaks which I could see coming down the chimney from inside the room. I also had some leaks appear in the new enclosure ceiling that were not there before, but I attributed them to the flashing leaks. So I had a professional roofer from Dunrite Exteriors come out and redo the flashing and the leaks around the chimney stopped. However, the leaks in the ceiling persisted. I spent much of a day on the roof with a hose trying to get the ceiling leaks to appear by squirting water around the chimney, but could not. Finally I took heed to something my wife said: "The new chimney changed the rain runoff pattern on the sunroom roof and something that didn't leak before has now reared its ugly head", or words to that effect. Well, just below the chimney there's a splice in the sunroom flashing that goes up under the first (bottom) row of shingles. There's a screw there holding the two pieces down to the sunroom roof, with plenty of caulk on it to prevent leakage. But it looked to me like water could get to that screw under the flashing by entering from the side - so I removed it. Lo and behold, there was a second, uncaulked hole next to the screw I'd removed, hidden by the flashing. It looks like the installers put a screw there initially before the overlapping piece of flashing was installed, then realized they needed a screw to go through both pieces of overlapping flashing and removed the first screw without patching the hole! So water was entering the overlap in the flashing, going into the second open hole, then finding its way down to the new ceiling of the sunroom. I plan to caulk the extra hole tomorrow and expect it will solve the problem. Just another example of GDI's poor workmanship. See attached photos for details.
Description of Work: Replaced an existing solarium (built by Patio Enclosures in 1992, since acquired by Great Day Improvements LLC) with a new sunroom. Work included teardown and removal of the old solarium, demolition and removal of the old concrete pad, pouring a new concrete pad over 2” foam insulation and tying it into the old footer walls, installation of the new vinyl/aluminum framed, sliding glass window sunroom with a solid roof (with exception of a 3’ wide glass skylight running the length of the ceiling). New sunroom was installed on the existing footprint of the old solarium, which measured approximately 13’ wide by 12’ deep (out from the house). Work included installation of 6 electrical outlets, a light switch for an existing track light fixture located in the eave where the sunroom is attached, and an overhead fan which I provided.

Our Patio Enclosure is 30 years old this year! One of the first and best home improvements we made to our home. The sliding glass panel that we use most often had become difficult to slide and one ot the screen doors was in bad shape from; 2 Old English Sheepdogs, several cats and one really determined chipmunk. Ed took care of each of the above issues, left us a few extra screws and a little bit of spray silicon for the other doors. Would I use Patio Enclosures again? It's an "open and shut case" Yes! I would.

I cancelled the contract with Patio Enclousures.
Description of Work: We had a Patio Enclosures enclosed patio installed in year 2000. In 2011 due to storm damage there were some dents in the roof. Since our insurance company aproved replacement of the roof we were asked to obtain estimates of the cost of repair The sales person came out and provided a detailed estimate of the roof replacement. The cost of the replacement was almost $12,000, where as the oricinal cost of the complete structure was around $15,000. The sales person said it was because of the propritary nature of their patio that the whole roof section including support beam had to be replaced, cost of the patio roof panels was $8,177 alone, plus labor, gutters & ridgebeam for a total of $11,710.56. Our insurance company estimated a total of $13,300 for the full replacement of the roof on the house, shed and patio. The insurance company advised me to obtain other estimates. Overall we have been happy with our patio, however anyone who is considering having an enclosed patio such as this, including those from other companies, consider what the cost of repair might be if needed. This is an enclosed patio made from aluminum frame, lots of glass windows and doors with insulated roof panels.

The following spring (less than a year of it being installed) I noticed holes running across the width of the awning over the bay window, after many discussions and pictures that Patio Enclosure's took they decided it came from the awning when rolled up the material that hang rubbed on the ashpalt roof on the bay window causing the holes. They refused to take responsibilty and told me they can replace it for an additional cost of $500. I feel it was the salesman who was at fault for telling me the awning style & measurement of the window would work .They would not refund my money or offer to replace it only at another $500 cost to me. Also, when they first came out to install the awnings they were the wrong color which they corrected but a pretty big mistake. The process of the complaint took months, they would say they will call me back and would not, one person passed it off to another, to another, and to another. Many messages left without returns. The company now goes by "Great Day Improvements" even the Vice President of sales did not call me back when he said he would, and then refused any help either, claiming it was not their problem.
Description of Work: Sales man came out and measured an awning over a door and over a bay window and helped me select a style & color, payment of $1500 was paid. .

I spent $6600 on that service. I had a patio enclosure room, so I figured that the guarantee was better.
Description of Work: I used Patio Enclosures on the 3rd of August and they put on a new roof on my patio enclosure.
Thomas Edger who is a principal of Patio Enclosures Inc. was our contact. The damage to the old patio enclosure occurred during several huge snow storms experienced in 2009 in this part of the country. Unfortunately, we were in the process of buying the house and the snow storms occurred while we were under contract for the purchase. When we decided to buy the house, one of the main selling points was the enclosed patio overlooking the golf course, so we were devastated when we found out it was damaged beyond repair. Tom Edger was very sympathetic to our plight and made sure the new enclosure was delivered and installed within budget and on time. His service and accessibility before, during and after the new enclosure was installed were way beyond professional courtesy. Our new enclosure is leak free and we love the versatility of having big glass sliding windows as well as screens. The enclosure itself is excellent quality and the service provided by Patio Enclosures Inc was superb. We would definitely recommend the Company and especially Tom Edger to anyone wanting to have an enclosed outdoor space added to their home.
Description of Work: Removed old patio enclosure that was damaged. Installed new patio enclosure, electrical outlets and roof that is guaranteed for life. Added new gutters and tied them into main gutter on the golf course. Replaced house siding that had been damaged previously.

Construction was delayed due to all the rain last summer. When they did start, they worked daily till the job was done. Wood posts to support the sunroom had some pretty deep cracks, which they did replace after a few conversations.. Sunroom was as expected, except for the noise level when it rains and hits the roof. We did have to have them out a few times, windows were out of alignment and did not open or did not lock.

I chose them because they have a very good reputation and I also checked about them online. So, everything went okay. I had got a quote from them over a year ago and it was little high at that time. I tried them again in this year, as I knew that many contractors were having trouble in getting business and so, they had dropped their prices. The people that came out to get the work done were responsive, as they pretty much got back to me right away. However, I had hired them back in July and they had to get the approval through with the city which took a while. So, I hadn't heard from them and decided to call them to find out as to what was going on. They were punctual, as they did show up when they said that they were going to be there. If need be, then I would use their services in the future too.

There's not enough time or space on here for all the problems we encountered. To start, their salesman was great and reeled us in. Once the job started, the fun began. We had 3 leaks into our home from the dormer they built. We had put in a new kitchen floor while that construction was being done. One of the leaks ruined our new floor. Their company had to pay and redo our kitchen floors. Then there were all the little things such as, their workers did not come on Fridays, their workers were always on their cell phones, they broke one panel of glass, they put in scratch doors, left all the glass dirty, left materials in our yard, and the leaks. We had 5 leaks in the sunroom during completion and after. The entire job was supposed to take 3 weeks. It took 3 months. I'm completely dissatisfied even after talking to many people in the company. We do not feel we got what we paid for. To satisfy me, they would need to remove the sunroom and return my money. Forgot to mention, in their sales pitch they will not tell you that the room temperature can and will get to 102 degrees in the summer. They will just consistently tell you how well their glass repels heat. But they will tell you get an AC unit, fans and shades that cost about $10,000 more. And that doesn't even conquer the heat issue.

The people who lived in the house before me had added the sun room. The free standing planter, which was already there, was incorporated into the design. It was now crumbling and something had to be done. I chose to replace the planter and window with a door that would match the other glass sliding doors. The workman who did the measuring before the order went in and the men who put the door in did a good job. I am pleased with the result. The salesman arrived when he said he would, but I found his behavior a bit obnoxious.

Got an estimate ($21,900) for a year-round sunroom, approx size 10' x 11' consisting of two walls connecting to two existing walls of house. The sales rep was very courteous and helpful and wrote up a quote and a very small layout drawing. I wasn't clear on how it would actually look in real life however, no drawings or renderings were provided and I thought the price was quite high for a small room with essentially two walls. They fit their existing products to your house, so it's not a custom built structure. I did not like how the roof would tie in to the rest of the house. I don't think the estimate included any type of heating, no mention was made regarding electrical.
