Description of Work: My desktop hard drive failed and fortunately I had taken advice from one of the techs at Harold The Computer Guy last year and had them install a secondary hard drive for backup purposes... this was the only way that most of the data was able to be recovered. Due to the age of the system we decided to upgrade to a new desktop and technician Miles (incredibly patient) took time to walk me through various options. Since their specialty is repair/upgrades, I purchased a new system elsewhere and brought it right from the store back in to Harold The Computer Guy for install of additional hard drive and uploading all of the data on to the new system. Miles provided some serious customer service which you rarely see from businesses anymore. Well Done !!!

+ -1 moreHarold provided excellent service on both visits. For the first visit, I called late in the day and his wife fit me into his schedule for the following afternoon. The original plan was that he would pick up my laptop and return it in an estimated 2-3 days, but no more than a week. When he got to my house he said he had a little time between jobs and would try to fix it while in my home. When he discovered the laptop couldn't be repaired (overheating caused the video chip to melt), he did a few things to get it continue to work until I could replace it. He then charged me $50 for an hour's work--this is actually the "pick up & return" rate, but he said since working at my house was his idea, he'd give me the lower rate! After I purchased a new laptop, I called to schedule an in-home visit to get help transferring files--especially trick since my old laptop was over heating and couldn't be run for long periods of time. Again, service was scheduled for the next day. I gave Harold a long list of everything that needed to be done--he did all of this and added other things he thought would be helpful. He spent about an hour and 40 minutes, then charged me for 1.5 hours ($103). Overall, both he and his wife were very professional, very knowledgeable, and very responsive to my needs! I would highly recommend Harold the Computer Guy!
Description of Work: Harold provided services twice in the past week. The first time he tried to fix my laptop, which was freezing up and showing a strange pattern on-screen when it did. When it couldn't be repaired I bought a new one and he did start-up and data transfer work on this one.

He was professional, and hard working. Explained what he was doing and showed me how to do myself. Amazing customer service!

+ -1 moreHarold was excellent and extremely informative. He showed up just about on time; only a few minutes late; on a morning that we experienced treacherous icy driving conditions. I beleived that I had somehow downloaded a computer worm. He sat with me for 2 hours answering my questions. He also downloaded a new malware program, so that I hopefully will not have to worry about any future problems. Aside from being extremely knowledgeable he was very nice and very helpful.
Description of Work: Harold downloaded malware program, and he and I discussed some conerns I had about some other programs on my computer.

But the nice thing about Harold is that when the solution is likely to cost more than a replacement, he lets you know that as soon as he suspects it. He easily and efficiently took care of the connectivity issues (and threw in a handful of helpful tips, tricks and nuggets of wisdom as well). Harold is professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and fair. In fact, we've begun using Harold's services at my place of business. He's always looking out for your best interest and is a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: We had a laptop that was on the fritz and a desktop that was having connectivity issues. Normally, these are things that I would try to fix on my own, but with kids, there is no time anymore. So we called Harold.

+ -1 moreIt was a relief to meet a computer person who would patiently explain what was going on with our computers and have the ability to solve my computer problems. Over the course of the three appointments, I trusted his work and ability to make the most out of our computers. I never felt like my questions were too simple or of a bother. His answers to my questions were educational and in as much detail as I could 'process'.
Description of Work: A total of three appointments at $50/per hour plus $15 for a memory card. Initially, my desktop crashed, and I spent 7-8 hrs over a Friday night and Saturday day on the phone with Microsoft support people from India. They said it had a virus and took control of my computer, deleting all the software and instructing me how to reload key software back. They were helpful, but the computer still didn't work right, and I didn't want to call them again and spend hours on the phone for this one computer. I found Harold on Angie's List. Over the course of three appointments, he replaced anti-virus in my desktop and on three more computers, added the additional needed software for my desktop, which I use for my daily work. He checked all of the computers overall for efficiency. He explained what he was doing to my level of computer knowledge and explained the types of computers we have, including their operating systems and the memory recommended for these.. He added memory to a laptop, showed me how to order more memory for two of the computers and how to install it myself. I am sure he did more, but eventually I left him to the computers to fix and check them as needed & did not ask for details. With all appointments, he explained what he was doing to my level of computer knowledge, especially with the first appointment, where I had many questions.

+ -1 moreHarold arrived on time. He listened to us as we described the symptoms on our computer and seemed to know immediately how to fix our many problems. He went to work and over the course of the next two hours he systematically removed problem software, downloaded software from vendors with whom he has had favorable experience, and by the end of his time had restored our system back to the level where it was working as we thought it should. All the while he was working he kept us informed of exactly what he was doing and answered all of our questions. He spoke to us as if we were intelligent adults and after determining our level of knowledge with respect to our computer went into detail as to the nature of our problems and made suggestions to help us prevent many of the problems that had plagued our system.He is obviously an experienced technician and a good teacher. We will use him when ever we have problems and would consider calling him on a semi-annual or annual basis to "tune-up" our system as entropy always seems to creep in.
Description of Work: Our computer had been attacked numerous times by virus and malware due to a lapse in virus protection. Harold fixed our vulnerability and cleaned up all the residual problems that had existed for several months. He was prompt, knowledgeable, easy to work with and efficient . His suggested solutions took advantage of freeware. when I need another computer guy, Harold will be my choice.

Plus, we had problems securing a TW wireless signal to the 2nd floor, and he seems to have fixed that problem, too--even though TW has been to my house on several occasions without results. Their excuse was that I had old plaster walls....that didn't stop Harold from fixing the signal problem. I would highly recommend him and will call him again!

He also straightened up some software that we had fouled up. Harold was absolutely, a most kind, helpful and pleasant person and I would highly recommend him, especially to senior citizens.

Description of Work: HAROLD CAME ON TIME. I HAD A DIFFICULT TIME JUST GETTING MY COMPUTER TO ACCESS THE INTERNET. HAROLD WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND ASKED IF I HAD QUESTIONS AS HE SET UP MY COMPUTER AND THEN ACCESSED THE INTERNET . HE EVEN SHOWED ME WAYS TO HELP IN THE FUTURE. Harold makes it convenient for the person having the computer problems. He’ll do whatever is needed – you can come to him or he will come to you.

My laptop was only a little over a year old, but it was running very, very slow - to the point of not being able to get work done on it. I use it for both business and personal. The internet would constantly say "not responding" or that a script on a page was "busy." Also, the task manager was saying that 100% of my CPU was used up, which I knew shouldn't be true. Harold found the issue that was slowing things down and fixed it. He taught me some useful information, as well. I purchased his services under an Angie's List "Big Deal," which offers discounted pricing, and purchased 2 hours for that discounted price. It took him 1 hour to address my issues, so I have another hour to use at another time. I did not have to go to another location to drop off my laptop and be without it for a day (or days) as I would have if I had used another service provider. I would highly recommend him and his knowledgeable and valuable services! He will be the one I call for all my computer issues!
Description of Work: Performed maintenance on my laptop, optimized for speed, found the issue that was bogging my system down and fixed it. Checked my virus protection software to make sure it was up-to-date and checked for malware, too. Installed protection against malware. Provided user help/training for various applications.

He came back the next day with a memory card, which he installed plus a new router which he installed. We are very pleased with his work and I have personally recommended him to two of my friends. He is a talented and professional computer tech. Well done.
Description of Work: Harold came to our house to fix our computer. He was on time and very professional. He fixed my lap top and helped us with our desk top. At his suggestion, we bought a new router for our wi-fi and more memory for my laptop. All works perfectly. He even gave me an extra cord for my computer. I waited over a week to complete this review because, I wanted to make sure that all was truely fixed. We are very happy with Harold's professionalism and workmanship.

His wife came to my house that day, picked up the crashed hard drive, they restored the data that night and had a loaner external drive to give me so that I could copy the recovered data back to my PC. What impressed me was the personal and rapid service - door to door - the competency and the price. I had checked with some services that do soley data recovery and they wanted over $500! I would greatly recommend them.

+ -1 moreI got Harold's name from a friend of mine. I have used him about 5 times over the last few years. He comes to me ! He is always friendly, happy, and much cheaper than if I took my computer to someone or heaven forbid called Geeksquad or PC on call. They gave me a starting price of $250 to even come out and look at the PC. On this call, my computer just froze and wouldn't work. I had a bad harddrive. He got all of the data off the old hard drive and was able to put it on my laptop. I didn't lose all my pictures! He then taught me how to use Itunes and gave me a quick lesson on Windows 7. It is what is on my new laptop. In the past, he has replaced a sound card, set up a laptop for my daughters when the went to school, set up a wireless connection and removed a virus from my husband's computer....and he can usually come out within a day or two...sometimes even the same day. Harold is my comptuer guy !
