It went very well. they arrived on time, took time to make sure that they kept the mess to a minimum, repaired everything that they said they were going to repair in the time that they said it would take. They kept us informed of their progress and were very professional. Cleaned up afterwards! This winter, we had more fire's than ever and the fireplace worked great! Would definately recomend them.
Description of Work: We had a small chimney fire in our fireplace. Company cleaned chimney liner, replaced chimney cap, reworked the firebox and repaired damage around the top of the firebox and the stainless steel chiney liner.

He was very professional and courteous. It wasn't a "clean" job, but he took a lot of care with laying down blankets, and cleaning / vacuuming up at the end. I would absolutely use them again if we need help with our fireplace!
Description of Work: He gave our gas fireplace a "tune up". We were having some issues with it - he came in, cleaned it, fixed a few things and it has worked great since!

The service tech (Shane) arrived on time and was very friendly and knowledgeable. After spreading a blanket on the carpet in front of the fireplace, he disassembled the unit, found the problem (a spider web in the gas line), cleaned all the parts, reassembled the unit and tested it making sure it would function properly. He even spray painted the firebox with heat resistant paint making the unit look like new again. I was very happy with Chimney Care and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: My gas fireplace was not working for the past year or two. It has an electronic ignition and would not light. It is about 14 yrs. old and has never been cleaned, so I called Chimney Care for service.

We called Chimney Care on Thursday afternoon and they scheduled our service for the next morning (Friday). When Shane arrived he cleaned our fireplace and was able to quickly diagnose the problem as a faulty wall switch. He replaced the wall switch with what he said was a much higher quality switch. Shane was very friendly and informative. He even charged us slightly less than the price we were quoted when we set up the appointment because he said our job was not as involved as many others. The job only took a half hour to complete and we were able to use a $15 Angie's list coupon.
Description of Work: Fixed our gas fireplace - would not come on when we attempted to turn it on at the wall switch.

It took a little while to get them out here. Once they came, the gentleman was only here for a very short time but he got it fixed and working perfectly. I have no complaints at all. He got here at 9:00 am, right when he was scheduled, and took care of it quickly. He was very nice and told me that he’d be happy to come back if I had any more problems.
Description of Work: The damper on the inside of my chimney wouldn't’t stay open, and the cotter pin had fallen out. He fixed it all so that it has not caused any problems since.

I am pleased to have chosen Chimney Care Company to install the insert in my fireplace. Except for having to wait almost a month from the order date until the scheduled installation date, then to learn that shipment of the unit to them was delayed for about another week, and then have one part back-ordered, I would rate the experience as top-notch. I don't believe that they are the cheapest around, but they were, however, very responsive. Once everything had been shipped to them, the installation went without a hitch. They arrived on time, worked very cleanly and efficiently (not always easy to do when working in a fireplace and chimney). The man who came to complete the required gas pressure and leak testing even remarked to us how nice the installation quality was. I would definitely deal with them again.

The lady I spoke with on the phone who took the reservation was very friendly and gave a reminder call. The service tech arrived within the given window of time and was very friendly, professional and took his time to answer all of my questions. At the end, he even brought in a dog treat for my dog.
Description of Work: Service tech looked at our ventless fireplace unit to check its condition. He cleaned it up, replaced an aluminum gas line that was kinked, thoroughly explained the operation of it and what our options would be for future renovations or changes.

Other than running late (which I am sure can be expected as you never know what you might run into on a previous job). It was a good experience. He was professional and knew what he was doing, got right in and did the job without delay. Advised of how to do minor repairs ourselves and what products to use.- Very fair!
Description of Work: We had the Chimney Care company out to clean and inspect our fireplace and chimney. Our technician was running late from a previous job and I did have to call the company as I had another appointment, and might have to reschedule. He was able to come out very shortly. Did a great job of cleaning and inspecting. Some minor repairs were needed, which he said my husband could do himself. Advised of what to do and what products to use and how to do it. He was right my husband did it very easily and this I am sure saved us a lot of money.

The Chimney Care Company did a great job of re-installing the fireplace insert. The company representative was very friendly and professional at all times. I was very happy with the experience.
Description of Work: The scheduled service included cleaning the fireplace insert and the chimney flue. The company also moved my fireplace insert which had been mounded fully into the firebox. The fireplace insert was moved to an extended position out of the firebox and approximately 6-7 inches outward resulting in more heat from the fireplace.

We had originally scheduled a cleaning as well. He checked everything out and determined that it was in excellent condition. He took off the cleaning component which reduced the cost by about half which we appreciated. He did a great job of explaining the various parts of our chimney and the best way to care for it. The only thing was they were booked pretty full so it was a little difficult to get an appointment.

Excellent experience, from the time I called to request an appointment through completion of the job. I had an afternoon appointment, but the technician called and offered to come in the morning if I was available, which I was. He inspected my fireplace insert, swept the stovepipe without getting any dust in my house, climbed on the roof to give a complete inspection, and took pictures to show me one of his concerns (up near the roof, the original installation had the lower pipe inside the upper pipe, which could allow creosote to drip out of the pipe itself in some circumstances). It was quick and professional, and when it turns out the quote I had been given was for a fireplace instead of the slightly-more-expensive fireplace insert, he honored the original quote without a second thought.

Scheduled appointment with company for 12/20 to diagnose and repair problem with fireplace not starting and going out. Had been worked on by another company last year and problem was not fixed. Had to wait several weeks for opening but it was worth the wait. Company called 1-2 days before appointment to confirm and tech called from office on day of appointment to confirm. Shane appeared very knowledgable and professional and explained.what he was doing and how the fireplace functioned as well as things the customer can do to maintain unit. Would use this company again and recommend to others.
Description of Work: Diagnose and repair gas fireplace that would intermittantly not start from wall switch and would also go out. Tech(Shane) showed up on time and performed diagnosis troubleshooting very quickly, he knew what he was doing, and identified the problem as a faulty wall switch used to turn on the fireplace. Had to go to ACE hardware to obtain part and within 10 minutes of his return problem was resolved.

Contacted company and service date set up. Serviceman arrived promptly and took care to protect carpet around hearth and hearth itself ,inspected chimney and gas logs. Chimney needed cleaning and gas logs dirty. Cleaned and inspected chimney and serviced gas logs. Continued to inspect chimney on outside, climbing on roof and and checking thoroughly. Serviceman explained everything and took time to make sure I knew how to operate gas fireplace. Every thing was great from start to finish.. Would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Extremely pleased with the service received. Called company left message. They returned my call promptly and set up a date for service. Serviceman arrived on time and and took precautions to keep my carpet and hearth clean. Inspected chimney and gas logs and preformed service of cleaning chimney and servicing gas logs (cleaning and inspecting). Serviceman very courteous and explained what he was doing and why. Inspected outside of chimney, climbed on roof and checked entire chimney. I would definitely use this company again and highly recommend them.

He really knew his stuff and explained things thoroughly. He then gave me a great suggestion that is going to give him less work in the long run! He pointed out that if I bought and installed a fireback, it would take a lot of heat off the back of my firebox, so I shouldn't have to have the brick repaired nearly as often and won't need to have the whole firebox rebuilt nearly as soon. He was really taking care of his customer's best interests instead of ensuring that he'd have work. Except that I have such respect for them that I will continue to go back to them for all my chimney care work and drier vent cleaning. I went ahead and bought a fireback.
Description of Work: They did a great job inspecting my fireplace, flue & chimney, then cleaning flue, tuck pointing the firebox, cleaning out the drier vent.

I chose the Chimney Care Company because of positive reviews on Angie's list but I will not be using them. A home inspection report on the house we purchased indicated that we needed to repair the crown on one of our chimneys. We had also burned a good bit of wood over the winter so I wanted them cleaned. We have experienced a strong odor when the weather turns warmer so when I set up the appointment I also asked for an inspection of the chimney to see if we should consider waterproofing the brick for dampness or raising the flue to help it draw better. The first time they were scheduled to come out we had a late season freeze so rather than risk an accident for one of their technicians, I told them I would reschedule. At the second appointment all I heard was what they COULDN'T do - the roof was too high, it had a steep pitch, they couldn't clean because they needed to install a fan on top, a supervisor needed to be consulted first. Okay, so additional equipment was needed, but isn't this what they DO?? Could my roof really be that challenging? At least I could have the ashes removed from the fireplace and we could set up a third appointment to do the remainder of the work, right? Actually no, the technician had the gall to tell me, "Technically ma'am, those ashes are yours. I should charge you for this visit, and I'll probably get in trouble at the office, but I'm not going to charge you." So he left me with a bad impression of the company, questionable ability to perform the work on a 2-story home and a pile of ashes in my fireplace. I will not call them back.

Response from Chimney Care Co
Member, First, I'm sorry we were not able meet your expectations of a chimney sweeping and our company procedures. I thank you for previously having the safety of our personnel as a priority. Please note that there was not any charge for the evaluation of the lower level fireplace in question while we were at your home several weeks ago. I believe you received value for the time our technician was at your home for which you were never charged. I want to address your concerns in your review of “ a bad impression of the company, questionable ability to perform the work”. It is not my goal with you to be adversarial in this but to resolve this matter. In this case since no money was exchanged or any damages done to any property it is only a matter of improving your perception of our company. I hope to clarify our position and am willing to help explain any questions you have regarding our services. Please note, there was not any charge for the service provided for the second floor fireplace that you requested our technician to inspect while he was at your home. This was not part of the scheduled appointment service rather a request. You stated there was possibly a dead animal in the upstairs fireplace due to the odor and asked if he would look at it. This was after he had told you the reasons why the lower fireplace could not be completed at the time. During the evaluation he found a gas leak in your firebox that was the odor you were smelling. It was a chemical put into natural gas by the gas company. He used a mechanical gas detector and a leak detector solution to locate the leak in your home. He showed you exactly the leak’s location and he shut off the gas floor valve to the fireplace. You had a plumber at the home whom you stated could complete the repairs needed. Quite frankly, I find it very enlightening that you did not mention any of this in your review. We used our equipment, materials and time in this process. The main reason stated by our technician stated to you why the fireplace on the first floor was not recommended to be swept at this time was that there was a strong downdraft in the fireplace chimney. This downdraft would simply cause dust and creosote to enter your home during a sweeping. Even with our twenty gallon high CFM Hepa vacuum the soot would enter the home and overwhelm the system during our rotary power sweep. He explained, as you stated in your post, that this is the reason why you have "experienced a strong odor" due to the volume of air coming down your flue into your home because of the downdraft. The downdraft brings the creosote odor with the air due to the positive pressure. He pointed out that he did not want to damage the antiques and the area rug in the room. As you stated in your review " all that I heard was what they COULDN'T do". I hope this will refresh your memory of why the chimney sweeping was not recommended at that time? We value our clients' property and in no way desire to unnecessarily risk damage to their homes. Once again there was not a charge for any service performed. One area rug requiring specialized dry cleaning may cost more than $ 750.00 thus almost five times the cost of a chimney sweep. You were correct that he did state issues about height. In particular, it was the height of the chimney. Our technician carried a 32' ladder which would not reach close to top of the chimney, nor would it be accessible by putting another ladder on the roof against the chimney due to the steep slope of the roof adjacent to the chimney. The height was brought up by him addressing our procedure of overcoming a severe downdraft by installing a fan at the top. This is our normal procedure if there is a severe downdraft, if the chimney is accessible with our normal equipment not requiring an extra person. We could not do this at your home. We will gladly post the pictures that were taken that day of your chimney and fireplaces, with your permission, so that it may be seen your house is not typical subdivision two story chimneys. The additional purpose to access the the top was for a proper inspection of the masonry. Your home inspector never went to the top but noted damage. I would like to plainly state that we could not access the top of your chimney with a 32’ foot ladder. I am sorry for any inconvenience in your time, but I believe the expectation that anyone could access the top of your chimney as being “professional” is not realistic. The comment regarding cleaning out your accumulation of ashes in the fireplace has caused us to evaluate our procedures. It has been our policy if we bring in our vacuum and accessories into your house there is a charge due to liability concerns. He did state that he would be required to charge you for this service. The comment about the “ashes being yours” should not have been stated. However, the comment was not recalled in the context you described. We regret any errors in communication that led to your “bad impression” of our company. Please note after the technician had evaluated your fireplaces, determined the lower fireplace required sweeping, located your gas leak, shut off the valve that you thought it “funny” that we would not clean out your ashes without a charge. He did ask why you were laughing and attempted to clarify his statement regarding the removal of the ashes. We have changed our procedure to now offer a service only for removal of ashes from the client’s firebox for a charge. He gave you an estimated cost of the sweeping requiring two men. He asked if you wanted us to call you with an exact cost for two people to come out to gain access to the top and sweep the fireplace. You stated you were going on vacation the following day and would call our office, naming our office manager by name, when you returned to schedule. Before he left your home, you thanked him twice for locating the gas leak in the upstairs fireplace stating “that your home could have exploded if he hadn’t found the gas leak that you thought was a dead animal”. We were unaware of your feelings regarding our service until this post this morning. We have not received any type of message from you regarding your concerns. We were expecting a call from you to schedule your cleaning and inspection. Once again, I believe you received value for the time our technician was at your home for which you were never charged. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other concerns or comments. Jeff Keefer
