I have a cathedral ceiling in my living room that goes up to the second floor and a visible loft. No way was I going to be able to paint that! I called several painters and got estimates, and Tim gave me the best price to paint the walls (all the way up), the ceilings, and the powder room. I'm picky about the lines where the walls meet the ceiling, and I have to tell you that there are no squiggles or mistakes up there. They did an awesome job. In addition to that, Tim was able to reschedule me after I had an unexpected hospitalization that interfered with our first painting date. He even offered to buy me lunch! Kermit and Benny were terrific. There are still several bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and family room that need to be painted, and I will call Tim.
Description of Work: Kermit and Benny painted the formal living room, which has a cathedral ceiling that's open to the second floor and a visible loft area. They painted the walls and ceilings, as well as a small powder room. Although Tim planned for 2 coats of paint, Kermit and Benny decided we needed 3 coats to cover the previous color. There was a small additional charge, but Tim ran out immediately for more paint, and they came an extra day to get it all done.

Above and Beyond painting was able to fit us in their schedule for a time-sensitive painting job by working after normal hours. I feel we probably paid a bit of a premium for that, which was to be expected under the circumstances trying to get a dining room painted a few days before Thanksgiving. The work was excellent and Tim Barton could not have been more professional. Would hire again.

I hired Tim last fall to do some interior painting in my home. Originally Tim, Kermit and Benny did my family room, kitchen, foyer, stairway and upper landing and ceilings in all those areas. I had Tim come back out to look at a drapery bracket that needed adjusting after re-hanging and decided to have Tim do another room for me. He gave me another great price to have my office done, both walls and ceilings, as none of my ceilings had been done since the house was built 30 years ago. What a huge difference the jobs have made in my home. A friend once told me your house should hug you when you walk in the door and now, thanks to Tim and his team, mine does!! Kermit, he was great fun to have here. His sense of humor and attention to detail are things I really appreciated, and his workmanship is great. Not to mention, Kermit and Benny share the same love of music that I do!! Tim kept in constant contact with me, to make sure all was being done as I wanted. No details were left undone, even when I seemed picky, they didn't mind and went the extra mile. Upon completion of the office, Tim noticed that I had yet to get to another room, that I thought I would have time to do. He made me another good offer and Kermit was back out the next day, New Year's Eve no less, to get the job done. All the work was done beautifully, I could not be happier. Tim truly goes the extra mile to make sure his clients are happy and satisfied. From start to finish, his professionalism, business sense, and kindness show through. I will definitely have them back when the next project comes along! Thank you!

Tim, Kermit, and Benny did very good, clean work. But, you know, that's what we expect when we hire someone who is well reputed on Angie's List, right? So let me tell you why I'm *really* pleased with Tim and his people: it's that when they were working I was able to trust them alone in my home with no supervision because they consistently proved to me that they cared, they knew their stuff, and they'd handle any problems like they themselves owned the home.

Tim and his crew were in our house for approximately 48 hours over a 6 day period. We found that they were completely professional. We are going to have them paint additional rooms in our house in the near future. They have made our house look like it has never looked before. I felt that all of the prices were fair and I also believe that Tim was always willing to work things out to make the customer happy. Tim watched his crew closely throughout the week and his crew worked extremely hard and get this, we asked for additional work to be done that was not in the contract late in the week and they agreed to come on Saturday to complete the work. That was amazing, There were no complaints from them regarding the short notice. There were no complaints from us about their work in any way except for Kermit's (one of the crew's) singing voice. Just kidding. We actually enjoyed getting to know Tim and his crew on a personal basis.
Description of Work: Painted kitchen including brick island , LR, Foyer, laundry room with cabinets and countertops, sun room including ornate amish built wooden ceiling, long hallway, plus all ceilings and additional room ceiling - all surfaces completely prepped as needed - various prep approaches were exhibited - oil and water based products used as needed

Tim and his team of painters did an outstanding job! My wife and I were very pleased with the end result and would highly recommend Above and Beyond for any painting needs.

They did an awesome job! Work is near perfection. They moved all the furniture and put it back, removed items from walls and rehung, removed drapes and rehung. The painters were nice and professional and a pleasure to have around. I hold only two issues, not related to the work itself. One was with timeliness, almost every time that was scheduled for estimates, signing agreements, follow-up...the owner was either late or ended up having to reschedule. And there was an issue after the painting was done that I don't feel was handled very professionally. The painters made a very, very, very small dent in my stainless steel refrigerator. I almost wasn't going to point it out but the owner made such a point about wanting to make sure his customers were satisfied that I thought I'd give him a chance to see if he could do anything about it. He immediately said that he was sure his painters did not make the dent and then the next day said that he asked about it and they told him they had seen the dent and it was already there. In a subsequent conversation he said they had seen the dent just above the 'waist' of the refrigerator. But that is not where the dent is, there is no dent in the area he described as having seen one. So he made an appt to come out and look at it, kept me waiting an hour past the scheduled appt (had called to say he was running late) and then had to reschedule because he couldn't make it in time for me to get to the office. On the rescheduled date he didn't show up at the time I had on my calendar and when I called he said he was on his way and he had the appt on his calendar for an hour later than I did. So I'm giving up on him and am going to see if I can try to repair myself (found online that says you can fix dents in SS by heating with a hair dryer, then holding dry ice to the dent, alternating heat/cold until it pops out). I am a little on the fence about hiring them again, I'd really have to think about it.

Response from Above And Beyond Painting LLC
We want to thank the homeowner for posting a review for us, I do remember having to reschedule a couple of times due to my estimates running long before I could meet with the member. However I understand how important it is to call if I couldn't be on time. Our last visit was a simple misunderstanding about the time we had set. As for the refrigerator I was willing to fix the problem if it's something we caused. The last conversation we had was to call me to schedule a time to come out and look at the refrigerator. Although we are very, very careful in homes sometimes accidents happens. Not sure why the homeowner feels that she's on the fence about hiring us again when she mentioned in her review that her complaints had nothing to do with the work we done? thanks for taking the time to read my response. Tim.

Tim Barton, the owner of the company, promptly came to our property for the initial estimate. He was very professional and courteous as he scoped out our project, and listened to our concerns. Throughout the initial scoping, he consulted with us and gave us different things to think about that really made a difference in the final product. I was really impressed with the the attention to detail of his workers. For example, Tim's team removed every electrical outlet covering and every light switch plate from our interior walls and washed them, and he also cleaned the walls and the baseboards prior to putting any paint on our walls. He also took any other item that may have been mounted on the wall down, such as thermostats and security system pad, to ensure a refined finish. I was really pleased that there was absolutely no paint anywhere (we tried to find even one small place where they may have gotten a splatter of paint where it didn't belong, and we couldn't find even one). Also, we have many accent walls where two colors come together and I was worried about how sharp the line would be where the two colors meet. These lines were so perfectly straight that I wondered how he was able to do it. I was really impressed. Again this company is really focused on the finer details, which made us very happy. For the exterior work, which was the most recent work we did (a couple years after the interior) it was the same level of quality and attention to detail, in fact I think it was even better the second time around. First, Tim consulted with us regarding much needed prep work that he wanted us to complete prior to putting on the paint. We really appreciated this once we realized the other problems we had. In walking around our home Tim was able to point out several areas where the trim was soft, and even beginning to rot. It was not obvious at a glance, but once you got up close, you could tell it needed replaced (Tim recommended a great company to get that prep work done, and his referral was also very good). We scheduled, and the team got started right on time. Tim's team didn't just paint the exterior walls, they also pressure washed the entire house exterior first, and even removed all the gutters and downspouts. They pressure washed the gutters and downspouts in a field behind our house, and painted them from front to back. I loved knowing that they were putting paint on every surface (visible or obscured). They also painted all the trim behind the gutters/downspouts that you cannot even see so everything had a healthy coat of paint. There were several obscure pieces of trim that were in difficult places that I didn't even expect to be painted, but the team painted those places too. One such place was a peice of trim beneath some new steps we had installed on the rear of our home, and another includes the air vents for our attick. I say this just to make the point that these guys really care, it must be a labor of love since they are in it not just to get the job done, but they go after the details, they really do go "Above and Beyond" what a typical contractor would do. Just as impressive as the work they did was the personality and friendliness of Tim and his workers. We never felt awkward or putt off by anything they said or did, and they were very careful to treat our home with respect as they went about completing the work. That is worth just as much as a job well done. So the entire experience exceeded our expectations. We will definately be doing more work with Above and Beyond painting in the future.
Description of Work: Above and Beyond Painting painted the 5 most important rooms within our home, as well as the entire exterior, and the work they did from start to finish was absolutely top knotch. Interior painting included Kitchen, Great Room, Foyer, Formal Dining Room, and Breakfast knook. The interior color plan involved multiple colors and accents. Exterior Painting included the entire exterior of our home, hardy plank, trim, gutters/downstpouts, and window shutters. I discovered that "Above and Beyond Painting" is an excellent name for this company because they pay special attention to details that other contractors generally overlook, and it's great to work with a company who treats your home with such care.

Tim Barton provided me with an estimated price for his painting service. We discussed the cost, process, and next steps to obtaining his service. At no time did we sign a contract or make a payment to Mr. Barton. Two weeks after the initial consultation Mr. Barton contacted us to schedule an appointment for the painting project. We told him at that time that we chose another competing paint company to complete the project. Mr. Barton became verbally abusive and extremely aggressive in regards to the fact we did not choose his service. We felt threatened and honestly scared for our personal safety due to Mr. Barton's aggressive nature. I highly suggest that his service be terminated from the Angies List.com providers. I will additionally be filing a BBB complaint with the State of Ohio.

Response from Above And Beyond Painting LLC
To all potential Angie's List clients, I must say it is amazing of what is allowed to be written in a review that is so far from the truth; not to mention, borderline defamation. I understand that when working with the public things are sure to be inaccurate at times, as is this review. My reviews, awards, and grades speak for themselves. The facts are, after providing the homeowners with an estimate, a few days later the homeowners verbally committed with my company to perform services for them; including an agreement to sign and mail the contract I provided to them. Once I received a verbal agreement, I then schedule their project to be completed. After two weeks I contacted the homeowners to inquire about the contract, at which time they stated they had decided to go with another company. The homeowners (SOMEHOW) thought, that because I asked them why they didn't inform me that they had chosen another company, so I could remove them from the schedule and schedule others; that I was verbally abusive and they felt threatened or scared about their safety (UNBELIEVABLE). This is an obvious attempt to deter potential Angie's List members from choosing my company, which will in fact not work. I personally think that potential clients would want to know more about services completed, which is what a referral based program, such as Angie's list, is suppose to be about. Thank you for your time in reading my response. Tim Barton Above and Beyond Painting

I made the decision to have the walls in several rooms/areas painted. A friend of mine gave me several contractors off Angies Lists. Tim was the first person I had come out and give me an estimate. I immediately could tell that Tim was not only very thorough, but truly cared about the project I was planning to do. He saw my vision and made it so much better. He asked me how many years it had been since the ceilings had been painted and my answer was "30 years, since the house was built". He suggested that I have them done as well. He gave me an estimate that I thought was a very fair price for all the work that I was going to have done. I wanted to have another estimate done, which I did, but in my mind I had already decided that Tim was going to get the contract. Due to life circumstances, I did not contract immediately. Once my ducks were in a row, I called Tim and told him I wanted to have everything he priced out for me done. I was given a several week outlook, which was fine, since I had lots of house ready projects to complete. Schedules lined up and Tim was able to start my project early. I was excited, for I knew I had made the right choice. From the moment the team arrived, Tim included, I was impressed by their professionalism. Tim took the guys from room to room and described in detail what was to be done where. The team got right to work, patching rough spots, moving and covering all my furniture, cautiously and carefully. When it came time for me to go and buy the paint, (which i wanted to do), I called Tim to make sure I was purchasing the right product. Tim offered to let me use his discount at the store I was at, which saved me quite a bit. I so appreciated that kindness he offered me. I could tell the guys were thoughtful and conscientious workers. I was impressed by how involved Tim stayed in my project, calling several times to check on the guys working and calling me several times to make sure things were going well. The first day all the prep work was completed, as well as all the ceilings. Tim called to let me know all that had been done, and what time the guys would be back in the morning. They were right on schedule and immediately started working. The second day was a long work day, as they were so thorough and made sure that I was 100% satisfied, which I was, completely!!! I had a front wall that was showing considerable wear and tear and it connected with another area I was having done. Tim called and suggested that i get a can of the paint that was used when I that room was done and they would add on to the project. They painted the whole front room wall and it looks 100% better. This was not planned, but the guys showed no hesitation to the added work. Tim came over the next day to walk through and I know he could tell by my excitement and smiles, that I was very pleased with the work he and his team had done. It exceeded all of my expectations and I will definitely be using Tim Barton and Above and Beyond Painting in the future.
Description of Work: I made the decision to have the walls in several rooms/areas painted. I had the family room, kitchen, eating area, entry way, hallway, front entry, stairway and upstairs landing painted. From the moment I met Tim, the owner, I felt he really stood out from the other companies I had interviewed. You can tell he loves what he does and cares deeply that you are happy with the results. He walked through the house with me and noticed many problem areas that the other companies had missed. So, I was very impressed that his quote came in very close to the others, even though I knew I'd be getting much more detailed work from Above & Beyond. The first part was getting all the drywall issues fixed. Tim sent his drywall guy Gary, and again, I was so impressed! Gary was so incredibly thorough - the walls looked better than they did brand new! Such attention to detail - I couldn't have been more pleased. Then the week of the painting began and the painters came each morning and spent a lot of time prepping each room before painting. They moved all the furniture, sanded the walls, removed all the outlets, vents, bathroom mirrors, etc and then applied 2 coats of paint. At the end of the day, they cleaned up, moved the furniture back and we were able to use our bedrooms the same day they painted them! The crew was on time every day, they were polite, friendly and were very respectful. Although it was a big project, they finished on time and did a gorgeous job. Tim was here almost every day checking on his crew and asking how I thought everything was going and if I had any concerns. He called each night to give me a status update and let me know which rooms they planned to tackle the next day. He was always flexible enough to change plans to suit what was convenient for me.. Above & Beyond Painting definitely lives up to their name! I am totally convinced I got the very best service for my money and that the job that was done far exceeds the quality of any of the competitors I had interviewed.

Overall, everything went great. This is the second time we have used Above and Beyond after finding them on Angie's List and hiring them to do some painting when we first moved into our house several years ago. This time, as before, prices were very competive, and quality was second to none. This was especially true when it came to our hot tub and nursery. The hot tub is seasoned to say the least and was in pretty rough shape, but the guys did a great job cleaning it up, repainting it, and making it look almost new again. The nursery was one of the most important jobs, especially to my wife since this is our first child and she had carefully chosen all the colors and even the the brand of paint. Again, the guys did a great job with this, even when it turned out that two coats of paint wasn't going to cut and I was going to need to run out and grab some more. Additionally, they were able to do all of the interior work in a single day before all the nursery furniture was delivered. Bottom line: great experience, great service, great quality. Contact them. I know I will be again.
Description of Work: Tim and team did a few different jobs for me this year, including restraining my deck, patio, and hot tub; touching up some miscellaneous interior areas around the door and stairs; and painting our nursery.

This is the second time we've worked with Tim and this experience was just as wonderful as the first. Tim's prices are incredible, and his work is beyond compare. He and his team are friendly and professional, quick, thorough and take pride in their work. And they should ... their edges are razor sharp! When Tim says all you should have to do is select the paint color, he's telling the truth. They move and return all furniture to its place and clean up so well, the only evidence you'll find that they were there is your new paint job! I'm looking forward to having Tim back for our next project. I highly recommend Above & Beyond. The company completely exemplifies its name!

Tim Barton (owner) came out and told me the process, what would happen when, and asked if I had any questions or concerns. He took time to go over every detail with me. The workers showed up the next morning right on time and the work progressed just as I was told. They really did go "above and beyond" to do a great job for me and were open to all comments and doing whatever it took to make me happy with the job. I scheduled an appointment with the owner of this company to provide me a quote to paint the exterior of my house (this was odd because other painters were willing to give a quote without meeting me and necessitating time off from work). The owner confirmed the appointment twice via voicemails left at our house, however he was a no-show on the day of the appointment. I called and left a voicemail to inquire about missing the appointment. No response.

I called the member two times to confirm our appointment and didn't receive a response, I do remember having to call the member a couple of times to schedule a estimate after his initial phone call. I do require homeowners be present during my estimates In case I have questions, I like to go over the estimate with the homeowner, so they DON'T have any questions. sometimes we get stuck at work, or in traffic. this is why I give a courtesy call before I meet with the homeowner. this safes me a trip across town in traffic for nothing If they are unable to make our appointment. and we all know what fuel cost these days. I understand the Importance of meeting with homeowners when scheduled, I did not receive a follow up call from the member. It use to be if there was a simple misunderstanding two adults could reschedule no matter what happened.(those were the good old days) sadly we are truly becoming a impatient people. Slow down, take a deep breath America. (Be patient.)

I contacted Tim via phone. He follow-up within one day and came out to my house to give me an estimate 2-3 days later. He had to come out a second time to get the drywall work quoted due to needing to use a subcontractor. He gave me a price on the spot. Tim followed up by phone a week later.
Description of Work: Tim provided an estimate to me for drywall and painting of my ceiling. He was very professional and great at follow-up. He described in great detail the steps he would take to do a quality job. I did not select Tim to do the job based on price. For the drywall work, Tim needed to use a sub-contractor. The combined price for the paint and drywall was ~20% more than another contractor. The other contractor also promised to completed the job in 1 day while Tim needed 2 days.

All of Tim?s crew was very professional, courteous and I felt comfortable having them in my home. Tim is also very responsive to questions and concerns and works to ensure a positive customer experience. Nov 28, 2011 Update: Tim came over this morning to touch up some areas that were missed during the initial project. For one of the three doors, the paint did not fully penetrate the grain, leaving dark spots in the grain. This is the same standard solid oak door as the other two doors, that look fine, however Tim felt that there is something unique with this door/material causing this condition. There were also areas in the doorjamb that had been sanded between coats, however were not covered/painted during the final coat of paint. Tim then asked me "did you sand these areas"? I find it astonishing that Tim would suggest I did some sanding of the finished work and then call him to fix it as a "miss" during the project. I felt disappointed that Tim would very clearly imply his customer caused an issue with his final product, not by simple misses by his crew during the project (as evidenced in other areas of the project not noted here). I do not expect perfection. I simply expected professionalism when dealing with any problems. The final fix for the door still left dark areas of the grain and a hair from his brush embedded in the paint. At this point with the experience during Tim's last visit, I will address it myself. Overall, I feel the quality is fair with some nice results in most areas and sloppiness with some other areas. The biggest negative is with the final service visit in particular. What ruined my experience was Tim's lack of professionalism during his last visit. I am not surprised that most of his projects go well as evidenced by his track record, however this experience was overall fair and I will not use Tim's company in the future. Nov 29, 2011 Update to Provider Response: To clarify upon Tim's response, I have absolutely no issue at all with necessary touch-up work. My primary disappointment stems from Tim?s comment during his last visit that I took action (sanding surfaces with final paint) that then necessitated his touch-up work. Because of this, I adjusted Professionalism down accordingly. This coupled with the door?s wood grain issue that was not resolved (as noted in the photo) at the touch-up visit, I also adjusted the Quality rating from ?B?, down to a ?C? (Fair) and Overall satisfaction down to a "C".
Description of Work: Tim’s company provided the interior painting services for my 800 sq foot basement project. Consisted of painting all walls, trim and three interior doors in a hall, stairwell, half-bath and the finished basement area.

Response from Above And Beyond Painting LLC
I would like to start by apologizing to the homeowner that we had to return for some very small touch up work. Sometimes things are just simply overlooked during the final walk through. However we are a company with a lot of pride in our work and understand the importance of returning to satisfy our clients. In this case after leaving from touching up an area apparently there was a hair in the paint that was overlooked by myself and the homeowner and caused the homeowner to change the outstanding report he submitted yesterday including some very nice things he mentioned about our company from given all A's to this report. Not sure how the hair got in the paint but either myself or the homeowner noticed. Otherwise I certainly would have pulled the hair that caused the homeowner to change his report. In addition before leaving after touching up I ask the home owner to check over everything before I washed my tools. He seemed very pleased with the grain of the door or did we notice anything in the door ( hair ). The door casing looked like it had been sanded but it could have been something the carpet installers may have done ? When asking the home owner if he sanded it CLEARLY he misunderstood me. I was happy to touch up anything no matter what the cause. Thanks for you patience in reading the long response.

Tim and his crew did a fabulous job on our family room. He and his team were polite and responsive. They had the job completed in about 5 hours. We couldn't be happier.

We met with Tim Burton owner of Above and Beyond Painting on 8/14/2010 and 8/31/2010 to get estimates on painting the front exterior of the house. From the very beginning, we were taken aback by Tim condescending attitude. However, we decided to continue with Tim due to a referral from a friend. We agreed on a start date of 09/13/2010. When Tim didn?t show up by 9/15/2010 we called him and he said we misunderstood the start date. Tim and another painter arrived on 9/20/2010. Our friends who had used Tim?s company said that Tim?s brother was the exterior painter and that he was an excellent painter. When Tim arrived, he brought a painter who spoke very little English and had an out of state license plate. When we asked about his brother, Tim said he went back home (to another state). On the first day of painting, the painter power washed the areas of the house to be painted and delivered the paint to our house. Unfortunately, the painter set the paint at the edge of the driveway. Since some of the work included the garage doors, my wife informed the painter that she was leaving. When she backed out of the garage, she ran over some of the paint which spilled on her new car wheel and all over the recently resealed black top driveway. Due to the heat, the painter and my wife worked frantically to clean up the paint. Tim Barton insisted that the accident was my wife?s fault and insisted that we pay for the paint. I disagreed but decided to pay for the paint. The next day the same painter lost control of his extension ladder and severely damaged the gutter on the front of the house, just above the garage doors. When my wife confronted the painter, he denied it but later confessed when my wife said she had witnessed the accident. Tim Barton asked me to get an estimate and said he would pay for the damaged gutter. When I gave him the verbal estimate from my builder he said it was too high and wanted me to get a second estimate. He agreed to pay the amount of the second estimate. He also said he fired the painter. The next day, another painter showed up to continue painting. We had no problems with this painter. Just before the last day of painting, I asked Tim Burton to bring back his power washer and clean more paint off the driveway and sidewalk. He said he would bring the power sprayer but would not do any cleaning since the accident was my wife?s fault. I totally disagreed. Once again his attitude was very condescending. From the first day when the painter put the paint on the edge of the driveway and my wife hit it with her car, there was constant friction between Tim and me. If I had to do it over again, I would have fired him and found another company to complete the job. At the conclusion of the painting job, Tim wanted to be paid. I asked for a receipt. He said he didn?t have one but agreed to send it in the mail. I paid him without the receipt. I never received the receipt in the mail and never contacted him. Despite all the issues and Tim Barton?s attitude, the finished paint job was acceptable. The gutter was replaced and I cleaned the remaining spilled paint myself. However, due to Tim?s attitude and (in my opinion) his lack of professionalism I would never recommend or use his company again.

Response from Above And Beyond Painting LLC
In response to the report on a project that was completed in the spring of 2010, during this project there were a couple of accidents that happened. One in which a new painter, that recently started with me, let a ladder hit a gutter causing damage that I replaced completely and immediately. My thoughts about that is that accidents happen, however I was forced to terminate the individual for not being honest with my homeowner after they witnessed him causing the damage and then denied it. The second accident happened when the homeowner was backing out of the garage and ran over a box of paint causing it to spill and run down the driveway. My thoughts were, when having work done on your property make sure nothing is in the way when backing out, or pulling in the garage. (None the less accidents happen.) We made great effort in pressure washing, but the paint left some stain on the driveway. The homeowner felt it was our fault and suggested I pay for the paint that was damaged, along with the cost to reseal the entire driveway. Honestly, I felt my company had nothing to do with the homeowner backing over the paint; otherwise being the professional contractor that I am, I would have paid for that, as well. Being in business for over 15 years, I understand the true meaning "of the customer is always right" and not to argue the point. There is a time when you have to stand firm on something you feel strongly about, otherwise you will be taken advantage of. I'm guessing the many false accusations in the homeowner's report that begins with me having a condescending attitude is a direct result of a homeowner that's upset I refused to pay for his driveway to be resealed. I wish them luck in the future with other painting contractors on there painting projects. I'm sure I speak on the behalf of other contractors when being thankful to Angie's list for allowing service providers to be able to post a response to reports that are given on the list (otherwise it wouldn't be fair). As we know, there are always two sides to every story. Tim Barton/owner
