We had been having back-up problems in two of our toilets for many months. The need to contact the plumber arose in the beginning of the year when the toilet back-up could not be resolved by normal method (plunging). Contacted the plumber and made arrangements to have them inspect and fix. The plumber was ten minutes early to the appointment. He was courteous and professional. He explained everything he was planning on doing and then summarized what he had done after he had done it indicating any problems or issues. He provided options for the actions he could take explaining likelihood for success and duration of resolution. He was happy to speak to spouse at work to ensure he knew the issues and costs as well. After five weeks, we have had no recurrence of back-ups. Toilets and drains appear to be working properly. While the cost was not inexpensive, the price was fair for the work performed. The cost to replace the fill valves was higher than I was willing to pay. I countered his offer and he accepted. We are very happy with the result and would strongly recommend the plumber to others.
Description of Work: Cleared drain lines (both main and storm). Main line cleared to street. Inspected and cleared floor drain and kitchen line. Replaced fill valves in three toilets.

I've used them before for other repairs but I've noticed the quality of the work they perform has really gone downhill and now I'm finding they won't stand behind the work they do and they use shoddy materials. I'll never use them again.
Description of Work: We had Mr. Rooter put in a new hot water tank, fix a toilet, and replace a leaky shower faucet in November 2011. The cost at that time was $1,867.39. The cost covered the labor and they supplied the hot water tank, faucet, and parts to fix the toilet. In January 2012 we had them back out to fix the toilet again for an additional charge of $132.67. On February 10, 2012 they had to come back out to replace the faucet they had just put in. Replacing the faucet was an additional cost of $327.94. Plus, this time I bought the faucet myself. The last faucet should have still been under warranty from the manufacturer but I couldn't take advantage of the warranty because Mr. Rooter kept the receipt for the faucet and took the broken faucet with them.

Estimator arrived exactly when the office said he would be there. Provided a quote and applied discounts on the quote. Scheduled the job within a week. When there were delays due to weather, kept us informed. Made sure that all utility lines were properly located. Trenched from curb to house. Because that required crossing a sandstone sidewalk, the estimator and the crew explained that they could not guarantee that the sandstone would not break when they lifted it and we understood that they would replace any broken sandstone with concrete. To avoid lifting the sandstone slab and potentially breaking it, this crew tunneled under it!!!! The day of the job was a cold and rainy day in late Septemebr. The crew worked until 8 p.m., in the dark and rain, to finish the job. The crew was polite and pleasant throughout. The job cost exacly what was estimated. Everyone from the office to the estimator to the crew did what they said they would do when they said they would do it. They were all very responsive, polite, and thorough.

He did a good job. He even cleaned up the basement when he was finished.

The job took a little longer than it might have because he needed to replace the shut-off valve and didn't have one in his van, so he had to purchase one where he bought the toilet. When he returned to the house and began to install it, the valve proved to be defective; the threaded part broke off, and he had to drive back to the store for another one, which took an additional hour. However, he was a clean, pleasant, and efficient plumber who answered our questions clearly and specifically. The cost was somewhat higher than we had expected because the company charges at a flat rate, but we did receive a senior discount.

The problem occured on a Sunday, so I was happy to see that Mr. Rooter had 24/7 service. We called at about 11, and they said they'd probably have someone here by 4. We got a call around 3 saying he'd be early. The problem was pretty obvious, so after a bit of tinkering with how to best get at it, Dave cleared the blockage, cleaned up, and left within an hour.
Description of Work: We had a blocked drain from the 2nd floor sink and tub -- the sink backed up into the tub, but neither drained further. The technician, Dave, used a power snake from both the sink and tub plumbing to remove the clog, as well as older buildup (the house was built in the '20s). After that, both drained much better than they had in as long as we've been here.

Upon learning about the outrageous price of the disposal, I called the company and eventually got to speak with the boss. He told me he would call me back, but that he would need to talk to the person who did the work. He never called back. I called again but never got to speak with him. I called another plumbing company whose name is in the List and asked them what it would cost to unclog a kitchen sink and replace the disposal. Of course they could not give a contract price without first seeing the problem, but they did say it should not cost more than $500. Mr. Rooter is a disgrace to fair business practices taking advantage of an old couple that were in a fix with a clogged sink.
Description of Work: The kitchen sink became clogged while I was hospitalized. Mr. Rooter was summoned and reported we neede a new disposal. I spoke to the plumber by telephone about the cost of the proposed repair which was over $600 for an new disposal. I asked him if that was a competitive price because in my experience disposals are much cheaper. He said they had gone up and that was a fair price. He installed the disposal, opened the drain, and the total cost came to $960. When I got home I found on the Internet that the retail cost of the disposal was $250! We had been "price gouged" when we were in an awkward situation.

Once I realized that we had been swindled I called the Mr.Rooter office and spoke with the boss. He assured me that he would call back, but he never did. I called another plumber and asked what it would cost to open a clogged drain and replace the disposal. They could not give me specifics, but there best guess was that it woudl be less than $500.
Description of Work: I was in the hospital when the kitchen sink became obstructed on the side of the garbage disposal. The Mr. Rooter representative came and said that the disposal needed to be replaced. My wife called me and said the cost would be either $500 or $600 for the disposal itself. I spoke with the plumer over the phone and he assured me that the price was competitive and that disposals had increased in cost. Later when I got out of the hospital and went to the Internet I found that the disposal we had paid $600 for actually retailed for $250! The other charges to unobstruct the lines and replumb the disposal brought the cost to $960.

They big thing with them was the price. They were almost 4000 dollar cheaper than others and gave me a life time warranty. They had to dig out from the basement to the streets, put in PVC and everything was done in a single day which I thought was incredible. They had two guys inside and two outside, they got here early in the morning and did not leave until they were done which was almost 9:30 in the night.

The next day another company sent a man who said I should have called in the first place as they also did tanks and could have figured out what was happening. A tank would have been $800. I am now wondering if it wasn't the furnace that caused the problem and I didn't need a new water tank after all. I am not able to judge the quality of this installation but the nerve racking fiasco deserve an "F". Charging the elderly double should get around and in your file.
Description of Work: After hearing a swishing noise and seeing a wet floor in the furnace room I called Mr. Rooter. I did not know whether it was the furnace or hot water tank. On the other side of the basement a sump pump needed looking at but was not an emergency. Two men came & immediately said it was the water tank. They gave me a service order completely blank in the description column but a price of $17 00. They glanced at the sump pump but would only work on the tank. The price seemed excessive but I don't know tanks. I am 84 yrs old. When the men left to buy the tank I called a friend and was told to stop the sale as it was ridiculous. I also called a large home improvement store who said the price of tank and installation would be about $800. When the men returned & I accused them of a rip off they became very angry, especially the on in charge. They started flimsy excuses such as I was quoted prices without fittings etc. He said he would lower the price to $100. My old tank was out & the new one in the doorway & I didn't know what to do. Finally he said that the $1700 price included the sump pump which was not scheduled for anything & maybe wouldn't be, I purposely went along & told them if it was so to do both jobs. They backed off in unison & paid. I wouldn't be happy so they couldn't etc, etc, etc. They were caught up in their own lies. I took the $1100 price to get them out. They didn't even start wiping up until I did & the man in charge left without a word. The other man told me to call my furnace man for the ongoing noise.

They are very competent, plumbing is expensive but I had no comparative price. They were 2 guys, then 3, then 4 guys around 6 hours working. They have good equipment, and get he job done. They were very polite young men.
Description of Work: I called because I had standing water in the kitchen and bathroom sinks. They put in a clean out in the kitchen where the kitchen and bathroom drains empty in to. The replaced the water supply lines to the kitchen sink. They also hydro-jetted the pipes down to the basement to clean out all the crud, which was the reason for the back-up. They thought snaking would not be enough to clear up the problem. Initially it was a $1300 estimate, but the hydro-jetting added $400 to it. They also put new valves on.

My basement floor was covered in water. I heard the sump pump motor but nothing was pumping. I called Mr. Rooter at 4PM and someone came out by 6PM to diagnose the problem. Jim made the guess that the pump had died, told me my options and I agreed to have him get me a new Zoeller pump the next day. He was back by 10:30 AM with the new pump. After making sure the issue was definitely not with the drainage pipes going from the pump (it had been too dark to determine this the night before), he installed the new pump. He also did a little extra investigating and showed me that the pump was going to an older pipe that I THOUGHT had been replaced last summer by someone else. We discussed my options for having the correct pipe hooked up next spring.
