M R Plank Roofing Co

We had M R Plank out to our house for an estimate on a new roof. He was also going to get us a quote on installing new french doors. He arrived on time and proceeded to the dining room table with his boards of shingle samples. Unfortunately, unknown to my husband and I, there was shingle grit all over the back of his board. He proceeded to spin the board for us to see, scratching and gouging my wooden dinner table. We didn't notice it until he left. When he called back with our french door estimate I told him how his board had marred our table. We never heard from him again. The least he could have done was to offer to have our table refinished. He may have gotten our business out of it. Now my family has dinner every night with a reminder of M R Plank.

The salesman came off as a "nice guy" who was quality oriented and eager to get the job. Once the work began I knew I was in trouble. The crew came out in a typical piece of junk truck with no company name and the laborers appeared to be in their late teens to early 20's, they were managed by one male who appeared to be in his late 40' to early 50's. The tear off went well and the speed of the project did to. The installation of the new roof is where the trouble began. The quality of the workmanship was substandard and I expressed my concerns to the once "nice guy" salesman who suddenly became less than helpful. The owner was eventually brought out to the jobsite who seemed less than eager to make things right. The owner comes across as your buddy but is gruff beneath the surface and even went as far as to indirectly insult the appearance of my building. The owner eventually did make things as right as he could by sending out another company to finish the job who did an outstanding job, wish I would have hired them. Overall, this company brags about being the best but their business ethics are questionable. Make sure you get everything in writing because corners will be cut if you don't watch.

They were great and it was a really great crew. They were punctual, fast, clean and efficient. I was really very, very impressed. I haven?t found any leaks yet. I would use them again.

They did a nice job. We really like how the roof turned out, they cleaned up well, and the owner was very nice and helpful when he came out. The price was lower than we thought it would be.

They were very unsatisfactory. Their price was tremendously high than anybody else. The guy never got up on the roof; he just walked around the house and said that this was wrong and that was wrong. He said that I had some problems which I don?t have with the roof. I was very displeased with him.

Excellent work. From beginning to end the experience was a pleasure (well, the final bill was a bit painful but we knew it was going to be a costly job). The person who came to give the estimate was timely, and right on the nose in terms of cost. He explained the process and even gave us his cell phone number in the event trouble arose (we did not need to call him because everything went so well). The work crews were thorough, courteous, and incredibly hard workers - they worked through some unseasonable warm April weather. We were impressed with them. The clean up was pretty thorough too, especially given the extent of the project. The person from the office was great - she drove out on a Saturday with pictures of the project including the wood replacement (we weren't at home for some of the work) and the final bill. A fine company with professional workers. I highly recommend them.

The salesman came out soon after we called . He examined the house and said that even though it was winter and the snow drifts were 3' plus, that his company could do the work-that they work all year long. We told him that we didn't think the job would be as good as if it were done when it was warmer out so we asked for an estimate. He called awhile later that week and said that he was coming over with a contract. We asked him if he would just give us a price for doing the work- that we were getting a couple of other estimates as well. We never heard from him again. Beware of high pressure sales!

I thought the roof installation went OK, with few glitches. But now, 10 years later, I've discovered extensive damage to my garage due to improper shingle installation. Two separate experts in the industry have both verified that the installation was not done according to standards. The severity of the water damage inside the walls wasn't evident until I hired an architect to investigate why the roof was beginning to sag and plaster was coming loose from the walls. What he found was water rot that will be considerably expensive to repair. I'm not even asking the company to handle that expense -- only to replace the section of roof they installed incorrectly. Plank refuses to even return my calls. He has stalled for months now. That's not the way a responsible company does business.

They installed the "Peel and Seal" roofing material. The salesman explained that this product comes with 10 year warranty on the product and 2 year warranty on labor. He stated he would come and make the necessary repairs and has never come to do the work. I have called them numerous times, the most recent was on September 16th 2009. A serviceman named Bill, called back and made the excuse that it was an old house. I reminded him that the work was guaranteed and that they assured me that this would fix the problem. He stated that this was what the salesman would say. I find this to be deceptive. I am very dissatisfied with the customer service. They stated that they have come out, but they have never called me and how can know that they have actually done anything. Numerous people have stated they are going to correct the problem, but nothing has happened. Addendum: The owner came out to do some additional work and came up with a solution for the problem with the gutters. He installed new gutters and downspouts. If I would have removed the gutters for the house it would have changed the dimensions of the house and voided the warranty for the roofing job they did. They gave me a good price on the gutters and everything turned out satisfactorily.

We didn't even have to be home and that was very convenient. They did a terrific job. They came out when they said they would. There was no mess to clean up after. The price was very fair.

They did a very good job. We had it done early in the year so the summer sun could heat the shingles and make them stick better. They made sure that our vents on the inside were open and the insulation was cleared from the vent, so we could have air coming and going through the attic. They also ran plastic hose to vents they cut in the roof to vent our bathroom and prevent moisture in the attic. They had enough men on the job to do the job, and they cleaned up after themselves. We did not compare prices, but we were well satisfied with them. We felt that, in talking to Bill Plank, he was sincere in wanting to do a good job.

The roof problems were all taken care of, but they missed a few appointments and told me they would do some things that they haven't. All of the work he has done has been good. But he didn't do what he said he would, and didn't even call to tell me he wasn't coming.

I have had a lot of problems with this company. I found them to be very unprofessional. I had asked that they not be too loud and messy. They were playing loud music and my yard was a mess. When they were finished there was a leak. Yesterday morning I woke up and there was water on my floor. Shingles have washed off my roof and I have called and the problem is not taken care of. They assure me that they will show up but they have not and my home is being damaged by the water left by their incompetence. I have left numerous messages and have not heard anything back. I talked to the owner who promised they would have it taken care of immediately and they did not show up. I just want my roof fixed without any further damage to my home.

It went really well. They did it in one day. The cost lined up with the estimate. Everything was great quality. They also do siding and gutters and I am going to have them do gutters next year when I am ready.

Overall, the project went really well. The price came in the middle of the estimates, but I feel what I got for the money was more then the other roofers were quoting. The crew of 6 men that did the roof were very nice, worked efficiently, and cleaned up very well considering that we had over 12 inches of snow on the ground in mid-April! The crew actually came out the day before and shoveled all the snow off the roof to make sure they could do the tear off the following day. I have no real concerns on the project. Mickey did say he d stop by the job and supervise and he never did. Also, he said the crew would take the gutters off the house to make sure something was properly installed under the gutters, and then re-pound the gutters on. However, after the crew left I noticed some of the gutters were still lose, so I know they didn t do this. The roof does look very good and I was very happy with the price and quality of the crew. I would recommend this company.

Signed contract on Oct 21, 2006. I told Mickey we needed work to begin in two weeks max due to leaks we were having. Assistant said she would she would schedule our job for that same week. After two weeks passed and hearing nothing from Plank I called to check in. They acted like they didn't know who I was. They said shingles would be dropped off in a day or so and work would begin soon. Three days later, no shingles! I called again and they still acted like they didn't know who I was. 2 1/2 weeks after contract signing and I reminded them I had not picked a shingle color. We scheduled an appointment in the middle of the workday and Mickey did not show up, and I missed half a day of work... Then he stood me up again a few days later... I told them I needed Mickey to call me today, and that they had two more days to show up or they were losing the job. Mickey never called that day, and I fired them. They were EXTREMELY unorganized and a waste of my time!

Everyone was great, from start to finish. Mickey did the estimate, and climbed up to look in attic for leaks. The estimate was on the low end of multiple estimates, and seemed very reasonable. Materials were delivered about 3 weeks after the contract, and the crew was there six days later. They were finished in about 1.5 days, as promised. The gutter crew came 5 days later, and were done in less time than estimated (it only took a few hours). The roofing crew was polite and hard-working (and there on-time or early each morning), and were very thorough in clean up and working to prevent mess or damage to shrubs/flowers. The house looks great. I appreciated that I was able to use e-mail to communicate during the estimate to contract period. Also, the main office was wonderful about calling me to give updates about what would happen next and when. It was a professional team job.

They were efficient and knowledgeable. Did a good job. Was punctual and cleaned up after the job.

M. R. PLANK BEGAN JOB JUNE 12TH, FINISHED NEXT DAY. WORKERS TRASHED YARD FIRST DAY, HAD TO BE SUPERVISED BY W. PLANK SECOND DAY. TRASH INCLUDED FOOD WRAPPERS, CANS, BOTTLES, CIGARETTES, ROOFING ON 3 PROPERTIES. (I CLEANED YARDS THAT NIGHT). WORKERS PLAYED LOUD MUSIC DESPITE REQUEST THAT THEY BE QUIET BECAUSE OF NEIGHBOR'S MEDICAL RESIDENCY SCHEDULE. IT RAINED NIGHT OF JUNE 18, ROOF LEAKED FROM ATTIC, THROUGH 2ND FLOOR, TO HARDWOOD LIVING ROOM FLOOR. INTERIOR DAMAGE CAUSED TO CEILING, WALLS, AND FLOORING. I CALLED 5 TIMES ON JUNE 19 BEFORE W. PLANK RETURNED CALL. ROOF FIXED SAME DAY AFTER I VOICED STRONG DISPLEASURE WITH JOB. W. PLANK ADMITTED THEY HADN'T REATTACHED SIDING, THEN LATER DENIED BLAME. SAID WOULD REPAIR INTERIOR. DO NOT TRUST WORKERS INSIDE MY HOME DUE TO WORK PERFORMANCE OUTSIDE. DESIRED RESOLUTION: $500.00 REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS AND AGGRAVATION CAUSED BY JOB PERFORMANCE AND LEAK IN ROOF.

They were excellent in everything. They were a little high in price, but I don't want to complain because they cured all of my problems. For everything they did, for as professional as they were, and for their clean up it, was worth the cost. They were fantastic. The crew leader was Bobby. Everyone commented in the neighborhood. They did a fantastic job.

I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH BOTH MICKY PLANK AND HIS THOROUGHNESS IN PREPARING HIS ESTIMATE AND EXPLAINING ALL OF MY OPTIONS AND IN THE CREW THAT DID THE WORK. THEY WORKED QUICKLY, WERE EXTREMELY COURTEOUS AND DID AN AMAZING JOB IN PUTTING MY YARD BACK INTO EVEN BETTER ORDER THAN IT WAS BEFORE THEY STARTED! THE NEW ROOF LOOKS BEAUTIFUL.

THEIR PRICE WAS LOWEST OF ESTIMATES THAT SEEMED RESPONSIBLE. I GOT ONE ESTIMATE THAT WAS HALF THEIRS, BUT I SUSPECTED THAT COMPANY WOULD BE TROUBLE AND THREW OUT THEIR QUOTE. THESE GUYS SEEM TO KNOW THEIR STUFF. (AS AN ARCHITECT, I THINK I AM QUALIFIED TO JUDGE.) I NEVER SAW THEM AT WORK DUE TO MY OWN JOB BEING SO FAR AWAY, BUT MY WIFE AND ALL THE NEIGHBORS WERE IMPRESSED WITH HOW QUICKLY THEIR CREW GOT THE WORK DONE AND HOW QUICKLY THEY CLEANED UP ALL THE MESS OF TEARING OFF AN OLD ROOF. I JUST CAME HOME AT NIGHT AND FOUND IT DONE- ONE SIDE ONE DAY, THE OTHER SIDE THE NEXT. (IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF THE GUTTERS HAD GONE UP BEFORE THE TAIL END OF HURRICANE KATRINA CAME THROUGH TOWN, BUT WE DIDN'T GET A WHOLE LOT OF WATER IN THE BASEMENT WITHOUT THEM. THE ROOF ITSELF WORKED FINE. THE GUTTERS WERE SUBCONTRACTOR WORK, WITH A LITTLE LESS CONTROL OVER THE SCHEDULE.)

A THOROUGHLY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. IN SPITE OF A SIGNED CONTRACT, OWNER DECIDED NOT TO DO THE WORK. ALTHOUGH HE SAID THAT THE JOB WAS TOO DIFFICULT, I SUSPECT THAT HE DECIDED THE ESTIMATE WAS TOO LOW.

DURING THE ESTIMATE, HE ACTUALLY CLIMBED ON THE ROOF TO CHECK THINGS OUT. NOT PUSHY. GOOD WORK, ADDED SOME ADDITIONAL ROOF VENTS AT NO COST. VERY PLEASED FOR PROFESSIONALISM, GREAT VALUE. GAVE GREAT ADVICE.

VERY DETAILED ESTIMATE/PROPOSAL OF WORK. FINAL COST AGREED WITH INITIAL ESTIMATE. ENTIRE JOB WAS COMPLETED IN 2 DAYS, INCLUDING CLEAN-UP. DEBRIS HAULED AWAY AT THE END OF EACH DAY.
