Overall: It is kind of sad really. I could write for hours about how rotten of a company they are. And I want to make clear: THE GUYS WHO ACTUALLY SHOW UP AT YOUR HOUSE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE SOME GOOD HARD WORKERS WHO WANT TO DO RIGHT. The problem is the owner and his cronies. The sales people too. They are the issue. The problem is their product, their application, and their techniques are all flawed something awful. Their claims of savings are totally unsubstantiated in any logical and measurable form. It is all anecdotal drivel. Their "guarantee" is so completely misleading and dishonest--I can't believe some lawyer with a nothing better to do has not hunted these people down and forced them to repent. I have fought with them for two years about how lousy of a job they did. I pulled the siding off my house, drilled holes to look--and there was nothing there. They are full of apologies, light on answers, and short of refunds. They have nothing to say for themselves. They should be ashamed to have "USA" in their name. All in all, it is my fault for buying into their scheme. The owner, when I spoke to him, all but assured me he was untouchable in terms of repercussions, and actually dared me to take him to court. Steer clear Columbus. When your house cold. Put on a sweater.
Description of Work: Services performed: Ripped me off and made me feel foolish. Check. Put insulation in my house that saved me money: Negative. Insulted my intelligence: Check Acted aggressive and hostile: Check Made me feel valued: Negative Lived up to their "guarantee": Negative Dos: Do not use them. Do not call them. Do not even bother to cross the road to see what they can offer you. Do not entertain any claims they make. Do not deal with anyone in their customer service area (if they have one). Do not try and complain. Do not question what they have done in terms of work. Do not expect to ever get a call returned. Do not try and state your case. Do not expect to be compensated for lack of work done and or no savings. Don'ts: Don't use them. Don't call them. Don't even bother to cross the road to see...... You can see where this is going. I called them to put insulation in my 85 year old house. It was cold and drafty, plaster and lath, with no insulation on the second floor. So I did some research. At the time they had an "A" with the BBB. It has since fallen. PS--Their "B" rating here on AL is a total nonsense. Read the people who gave them a good grade--it is only for showing up on time--FOR AN ESTIMATE. (This place will show up to make money in a second--call in and ask a question afterwards--and you are dead to them.) Almost nobody gave them a good grade who actually had anywork done--and those that did actually have work done--have some horror stories.

They came out and drilled holes in our house to put the foam in. It is supposed to fill up the cavities and they fill the hole. It is up to the homeowner to fill up the hole. They drilled thirty holes in the back of the house. They also drilled through the inside of my house including the bathroom, bedroom and duct work. I ended up having my insurance company take care of my repair. It was over a year. We ended up going to court and settling with my insurance company. I was inconvenience for quite a while with all of this mess. I was very disappointed. When they tore up the bathroom to repair it you could see the foam didn't even go all the way like they advertised. I would watch them real close if they are working on your house.

THe 2 installation guys called prior to arrivala nd were professional adn quick. They had to remove the siding to insert the foam and noone would know that had been done. They even wen the extra mile and installed our stove hood vent tubing without charge while they were up in the attic. I did not comparison shop so I am not sure about other companies. This company was reccommended by a friend and I will also reccommend them.

They were great. They were punctual and efficient. I liked the product, too. There is one thing I am finding that they didn't tell me about and that is the slight odor that causes a burning sensation in my eyes. I've had to leave the garage door up to get some ventillation so it doesn't get too out of control and hope that it takes care of the odor.

Tony was able to schedule my appointment on Saturday, December 20 in the afternoon. I was slightly nervous about the possible mess or potential problems that could arise- I was expecting my son who is in the military to come home on leave for the holidays, along with friends and relatives coming in from out of town. I always host a large gathering at my house for Christmas, so I could not afford time wasted on waiting for this job to start and finish (lots of shopping and preparation to do!). I did not receive a call from anyone to confirm my appointment on Saturday, 12/20. I waited patiently at home until approximately 3pm when I decided to call Tony (the sales rep). I left a message on his cell phone that no one had called or shown up. Because he failed to call me back, I called USA Insulation's office. No answer. I left a voice mail that I was extremely unhappy that I had waited all day until 6pm. The next day, 12/21 the receptionist returned my call in the height of my shopping frenzy. She apologized and explained that the workers were backed up due to the harsh weather that hit Columbus. She then told me she did not blame me if I did not reschedule! She offered to reduce the price quote that I had received, but at the time she called, I had travel plans made and could not schedule anything until after the first week in January. To date, I have not received a call from anyone at USA Insulation to try to win my business. Unless they call me and offer a reduced rate and prompt, professional service, I will never recommend this company to anyone looking to insulate.
Description of Work: I made an appointment for an estimate on whole house insulation in December '08. Slightly leary of some the previous ratings they earned on Angie's List, I went ahead and scheduled the free estimate. The $400 coupon and the energy credit I would obtain on my '09 taxes certainly made my decision easier, too. I was impressed and pleased that Tony (the rep who came to my home for the estimate) was on time for the appointment; he said that I did not need whole house insulation, but instead would only need my garage walls and the perimeter of my house insulated at the frost line. He was able to confidently answer all my questions and by all accounts save me quite a bit of money by not overselling the product in addition to the substantial energy I would save on heating and cooling.

We'd seen signs for this company around the area and viewed their website to learn about their foam insulation techniques, all of which seemed like good signs. We were able to set up an appointment for an estimate within a week of calling. The rep was punctual and called in advance to confirm arrival time, but he seemed fairly cavalier about the process and questions about whether older wiring might be a problem. The estimate was about 30% over what another company offering a similar product was offering.

The overall experience was average. My home was very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer. Because of this I decided to get foam insulation injected into the walls. The salesman came to our home and pitched his product and was agreeable but slightly pushy. We came to the agreed upon price after some negotiation and it seemed reasonable. The installation process went as scheduled. The installers were a little late but that is really the norm from my experience with most contractors. There were some issues during installation that caused some major problems. Apparently the mix the installers were using was not properly formulated and was actually to wet and this liquid seeped through one of the walls and caused discoloration. In addition to that, one of the installers knocked over a down spout for a gutter and placed his ladder directly on the new aluminum coil fascia wrapping on the roof, causing multiple dents on the surface. The foam does go everywhere but it did not cause any electrical issues or other problems besides expected cleaning. The issues during installation did cause some headache to resolve and were almost completely remedied to my satisfaction without undue hassle. I contacted the company and informed them of the paint situation and told them I would have another company provide a quote to re-paint the whole room and I would get a quote from the company who did the roofing to repair the damage to the aluminum fascia and the down spout. Once I obtained a quote for the two projects I mailed them in and USA Insulation sent a check for the price of re-painting the room but had someone come over and replace the down spout on there own, without my consent. The down spout is not a big issue and I could have done this on my own, but I was displeased that the aluminum fascia issue was completely ignored. My interactions with the main office were not excellent, whoever answers the phone is a generally disagreeable woman, but the manager was polite and agreed to my solution without any protest, he simply did not send enough money to cover both issues. I have simply let the aluminum fascia issue rest as it is a minor blemish that I am probably the only one who even notices. The overall performance of the product is acceptable. I have endured two Ohio winters in this house and last winter, prior to insulating the house, the thermostat was set at 70 degrees, would constantly run, and my wife and I would still be cold. Now, the thermostat is set at 68, cycles on and off, and the temperature is better but still cold. I live in a drafty, old house so overall this is an improvement. Also, we have a cabinet installed with the back to an exterior wall and prior to installing insulation we could use this to chill aluminum soda cans to near refrigerator temperatures in the winter. Now, the cans are only lukewarm.
Description of Work: Foam insulation was injected into the cavities of the walls of the house. Removed panels of siding to inject the foam and filled the space within concrete foundation blocks with foam. Also sprayed insulation into the attic.

My husband emailed them for more information and it was more than week before they contacted him back. Normally, that wouldn't be a big deal, as we understand how email can work, but it just got worse from there. When my husband talked to them, he set up an appointment for an estimate for two weeks out at 10 A.M. one Friday morning. That Friday, 10 A.M. came and went, with no one showing up and no call to my husband to explain the delay. When he called them to find out what was going on, they were dismissive of his concern, saying they had been "overbooked" and could they reschedule his appointment. We didn't. From a customer service standpoint, that was unacceptable - at the very least, had they truly been overbooked, they should have called to reschedule or called to let my husband know they were running late. It cast serious doubts for us on the level of their professionalism, the kind of job they would perform, and their reliability. Needless to say, they lost our business.

I first called during the weekend and left a message. I was promptly called Monday morning and an appointment for an estimate was made around my work schedule. The salesman, Tony, called before arriving and quickly asked if my house was made of wooden shingles. This has been an ongoing issue for many professionals. My house is actually sided with a vinyl siding that is very thick and looks and feels just like wooden shingles that were heavily painted. I showed him an area where there is a gap and that it is actually attached like vinyl siding but sturdier. He also looked in my attic. He suggested exactly the amount of additional attic insulation that my house inspector did before I purchased the house in November. The estimate was exactly what I expected and much less expensive than trying any of the other methods to insulate the walls and attic. I was able to schedule the installation two weeks later. I was called about an hour before the crew arrived. When the crew arrived, I again was questioned about the siding. We looked at the section that I had shown the estimator and we discussed that although it was originally installed much like typical siding, it was attached differently and would require much more work than typical with a risk of damage. The other option was to install it from the inside. Since I was planning to refinish the walls anyway, this was not a major problem. They cut 2 inch holes into the walls between studs, installed the product, plugged the holes first with a wooden plug then spackled over them to make them even with the dry-wall finish. While they made every attempt to clean up after themselves, some expected dust did happen. I appreciated the honesty of the crew, Dan and Mike, throughout the process. They also added insulation to my attic that was done quickly and impressively thick. They ran the hoses through my windows around my house and cleaned up on the outside as well. The only exception was an area that I believe they just forgot when it began to downpour with rain as they were completing the job. They also shared that they typically only do one house a day to make sure they aren't rushed to go to another job. While this process did not go the way originally planned, I would definitely do it again. After only a week, I've noticed my house maintaining it's temperature better and I can barely hear the traffic noises, etc. anymore.
Description of Work: After noticing that my dishes were cold and finding a kitchen thermometer in a drawer registering 40 degrees last winter I decided insulation was needed. My 1956 house was a bit of a mystery when it came to whether the walls were even insulated. After updating the electrical outlets, I realized that not a single wall was insulated. I started researching insulation ratings and insulation procedures starting last winter, but decided to wait until the wiring was updated. This is not the same foam insulation that was installed decades ago! Even though the old stuff was wrought with bad reports, all the houses in my childhood neighborhood are still standing (30 years ago). This new foam goes in like shaving cream and does not expand so much that walls are at risk, etc. It has very little to a clean smelling odor that went away quickly. The company has a website with videos of the procedure on their website. They also use a safer attic insulation than most. So I had both my walls and attic insulated of my 1200 square foot ranch.

When I called this company I spoke with a different person apparently because he was very pleasant, courteous, etc. However, the person who came to do the estimate was not the same person. I, unfortunately, did not get a name.
Description of Work: This salesman treated me as if I was a stupid person; never measured anything; never went up in the attic; just kept saying "don't worry about it." He frightened me away from this company because this was work I knew nothing about and he was unwilling to explain anything. He sat me down and showed me a video of foam wall insulation which I was not interested in.

Overall they were very sloppy and was in a hurry. My husband was out there the whole time to make sure they did what we paid for. They drilled through a wire which they repaired in the wall. Steve scheduled an appointment to give me an estimate and called on his way out to confirm the appointment. Upon arrival, he described the process to me and highlighted the great features. I had already watched the video on their website, so I was already educated on the process but he made sure I understood everything. He also made me aware of tax credits that I could take advantage of. I agreed to have them do the work and he scheduled me for the following week. The driver called to inform me he was on the way out the day of the appointment. The crew removed rows of siding from both stories of the house and filled the walls with insulation. Upon completion there was no trace that anything had been done. Everything was cleaned up and the siding was put back in place. The only sign that USA insulation was here is the temperature difference and comfort in the home. It's too soon to tell, but we fully expect a reduction in our heating bills.
