It has just been OK. I am new to security systems. We have had some hardware problems. The company seemed to be perplexed with some of the problems. They did give us 1 month free service for all of our troubles. Generous given that we were only without service for a couple of weeks.

The installer had trouble with programing the control panel so it would talk to their computer. They never did get it quite right. Still can't program a new code into it, so I am still using the default. I would call and ask them to come out again, but they have already been here several times, and the girl that answers the phone is extremely rude and condescending, not to mention incompetent. I think she is a large part of the programing issue. Some windows weren't done that should have been. I question how well they actually monitor the system. My daughter came home from college, letting herself in while I was out. She didn't know the code, and the alarm sounded for at least 8 minutes before she got a hold of me to turn it off. No call was made to the house by the company and no police were dispatched. I am going to change companies. At the very least, a monitoring call should have been made to the house to verify that all was ok.

We ran a history for this member's account from 01/2006-01/2007, and there is nothing in our records that corresponds to the member's description of our response to any of the alarms in the history. There were signals received, none of which took more than five minutes to resolve by receiving a cancel signal from the premises, during which time the authorities had already been dispatched. The dispatch is canceled after we receive a cancel from the premises, and we do follow up on cancels. This is all reflected in the history. We also show that on one occasion, the member had changed her cell phone number and had not notified us of the change, so we had no way to talk to her directly until she canceled the alarm from the premises. Since the member did not specify the date, I have no way of knowing which monitors were on duty. As for having to replace the control panel, if the panel was originally installed by another company or if it is old or damaged by water or lightning, for example, then it is in the customer's best interest to replace it. That way they have a new, working panel with a warranty. The member could have contacted us to change the code for her. We do this on a daily basis. We are sorry that the member feels our service was subpar, but had we been contacted when the member still lived in the area, in the home we monitored, we would have done our best to resolve the issues. We have monitors on duty 24 hours a day. We take calls at all hours. We do all we can the provide the best service possible.

The repairmen are young & my security system is old. They didn't know how to repair it & didn't want to learn. I would have preferred repair to replacing, but maybe that's unrealistic. Sterling was not the company that installed the system originally.
Description of Work: Replaced the panel on my security system. It had developed a problem & was sounding the alarm unpredictably.

Mr. Williamson came out and was very helpful. He asked us some questions, let us know what the features were of our old system (house came with no instructions re: alarm), recommended another system, but did not try to sell us any additional features that we felt we didn't need. The work was done on time and the above amount includes the cost of monthly monitoring. The price was reasonable. The work was done a few months ago, and I forgot to submit so I'm not exact on the cost.
Description of Work: Installed a new alarm box. Modified system. Added motion detector.

THEY ALSO CALLED MY BROTHER-IN-LAW TO COME OVER AND CHECK OUT THE HOUSE, WHICH HE DID. THEY THEN CALLED ME FRIDAY EVENING TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OKAY AFTER I RETURNED HOME AND RESET THE ALARM. I ALWAYS FEEL SAFE WITH THEM A PHONE LINE AWAY.
Description of Work: MY ALARM SYSTEM IS SET UP WITH STERLING. LAST FRIDAY, MY MOTION DETECTOR WENT OFF AND THEY DISPATCHED THE POLICE AND LEFT ME A VOICEMAIL MESSAGE ON MY ANSWERING MACHINE (I WAS AT WORK).
