It went incredibly well. Everyone was incredibly professional and if there was a concern or issue the guys ran into while installing, they were very clear at what the issue was and their proposed solution. They worked VERY efficiently and in some really hard weather conditions. My only concern was the height of the patio. It had stepping stones that went off the side and it seemed sort of 'haphazard' since it dropped a few feet and seemed like a liability. I talked with Scott and expressed my concern. I talked with him about our options and at a cost to me, I had some boulder stepping stones put in. The guys fit it into their VERY busy schedule and took care of it. I really do love all the work they have done -- and so does everyone that comes over. Highly recommend them -- have been to multiple friends already.
Description of Work: Scott Ross was our designer and did 2 very large, projects for our new build. First (in November of 2013), they designed a retaining wall and pathway to our house that was designed to help us with a grade issue we had for the house elevation. This past April we had them come out and finalize our patio (we designed in in the fall but waited to do it so the ground could settle). We absolutely love our patio, fire pit and the seating walls.
The project went very well. The crew arrived on time each day, worked a full day, and kept us apprised of their progress. They kept the site clean and finished the job on time and within budget. Shane, the job/project leader, did a very nice job on the hard-scaping. He didn't hesitate to rework portions of the project when they didn't meet his standards, and he changed his approach in order to ensure that it would fit the site. I'd hire these guys again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Removed existing concrete front stoop, walkway and landscape and replaced with new porch, walkway, patio, landscaping and lighting system.

Paver Patio - absolutely beautiful design. Why I chose 9Trees after speaking to a total of 4 companies and receiving 4 estimates - 9Trees immediately worked with me to construct a patio within my budget. Other company seemed to procrastinate on telling me what changes could be made in plan to decrease cost. Other companies seemed to think a patio within my budget would not be possible. Also, plenty of steps off of patio (near hose and out to yard).

(1) 9 Trees (Scott) was attentive to our design desires, was thorough in discussing materials and installation patterns, and presented a fine finished design. (2) The work crew was very good: they did a remarkable amount of work in difficult (cold) conditions, were careful to check out layout details with me as needed, and produced a beautiful finished project.

Let me first say that the workers were professional, and conscientious. We are overall very pleased with the way that our project turned out and would recommend their work with the understanding that as a consumer you will need to be VERY involved when it comes to this company's customer service. | We originally contacted them late spring of 2013 to have a paver patio with walls, lighting, fire pit and pergola installed with the understanding that our son was getting married the second week of September and we were having family come in from all over the United States. Noo Problem! After finalizing the details and payment of 50% upfront, they were scheduled to start the second week of August. I called the end of July because we were to provide the materials for the stairs. When I called the office and asked to speak with the superintendent for the job, I was told there was no need for that. I explained that I needed measurements because the decking composite was a custom order and we would need time to receive it. After a lengthy conversation I was finally able to get the material list. | After no phone calls or e-mails by the second week of August, we called the office and were told they they would start Monday August 26th. No one showed up on the 26th, we called the next day and were told that they would be there Thursday August 29th or Friday the 30th. One person showed up Friday but being Labor Day weekend, they actually wouldn't be starting till the following Tues or Weds. The work finally started on Friday September 6th, but because of a family emergency of one of the workers, no work was to be done on Monday the 9th. My sons wedding was the 14th of September, and needless to say my back deck and "patio" was totally inaccessible let alone the mud, and mess. | Again let me say that the workers cleaned up the best they could everyday, and were very polite and professional, I think they were aware of the all the activities that going on in our household. | Overall the work took about 3-4 weeks, and we waited for them to bill us for the balance. They sent us a bill for the total amount! I again had to call and correct them and ask for them to re-bill us for the correct amount. Instead I was sent an e-mail about a week later. The balance was sent. | As a final note, we were sent a hand written Christmas card from them as a thank-you for our business, HOWEVER it had the wrong peoples name in it. Again a sad commentary on the lack of customer service shown by this company. | This winter we found a board that was cracked on the stairs of the patio that they installed. We called and after they came out to inspect, a new board was ordered. They also noticed that the stone wall was installed incorrectly and told us that they would correct both items as soon as the snow had melted. By the end of February, they had rectified both problems. We were relieved to see that they were responsive to any problems that were their responsibility.

There is absolutely nothing negative I have to share about 9 trees.....all the way from our fist meeting to the project sign off. We began working with Matt Forchione who was prompt, professional and very attentive to our patio design wishes. The installation crew was also always on time and worked their best so we could begin enjoying our patio before the warm weather hit. Well, after just a couple short weeks, our patio was complete and even better than we could have imagined. I should also not fail to mention that we shopped 4 other companies. 9 Trees delivered on all our patio wishes at the best price. All I can say is, if you are interested putting a patio on your home and not sure what company to work with....the answer is simple. 9 Trees!!! We definitely plan on future, outdoor landscaping needs and 9 Trees will be the first to get our business. FYI. This review shows the work was provided at the provider's location. This was the only option I could choose, other than providing my address, which I prefer not to do.

We were very impressed with 9 Trees from beginning to end. They were very helpful from the initial contact, through the design process, and through construction. We appreciated the communication we received along the way, the ideas to help us obtain a patio we wanted within our budget, and the flexibility in working with our schedule and budget. We would definitely use 9 Trees again.

They did a good job removing the old tree and bushes and creating a new bed. The new 3-course stone wall was especially well done. The other plantings, seeding, and mulch made the new area look attractive and I can't wait to see what it looks like next spring. The newly planted tree, a Zelkova Serrata, was hard to evaluate, since it was fall and the leaves were already brown and worn. But they provide a one year guarantee, so there was no risk to me as a buyer. I liked their sense of style in doing the work. Morgan was very responsive and answered phone calls and questions. He even came out to the house after the work was done to answer a question I had about the tree. I would definitely use this company again because of their customer service and excellent work.
Description of Work: They removed a 23-year old crabapple tree and took out the stump. They also removed old juniper bushes, leveled dirt in some areas and added dirt in other to create a new planting bed. They took existing landscape stone and rebuilt a small wall around the new bed. They planted hostas, vinca, and phlox, plus re-seeded areas of grass around the work area. They installed a new 2-in tree and spread mulch.

9Trees landscaping a great job with this project. They were professional, timely and the end project met my expectations. I have a shared driveway and they also worked very nicely with my neighbor. I would definitely recommend 9 Trees for any landscaping project. I have used them before to install outdoor low wattage lighting (a few years back) and I still love the lights to this day!

I ineterviewed 5 companies for this project. Scott Ross, the sales leader, was prompt with a proposal within a week. The proposal came in under my $15000 budget and included everything even the electric Scott listened to what I wanted and didn't try to sell me something I didn't want He willing made all the changes I requested until the final contract. I heard 5 different stories on how to construct paver patios. The 9 Trees construction process was logical and sound. Their employees aren't subcontracted which makes for consistent labor through the whole process. Our work crew was headed up by Chris who was polite and courteous. I had discussions almost each morning with Chris. He was able to answer all my questions and concerns. The crew was here everyday and worked all day. Chris and his crew were meticulous in measuring and you could tell they took pride in their work. They were considerate of the rest of my property as well as the neighbor's property. We are meeting many of our neighbors because they stop by to see the new patio!!!

We started the process by having two landscape and patio designers come out and give us an estimate to tear down an existing large wooden deck, and replace it with a new paver patio. Scott came out representing 9 Trees, and even though it was raining like crazy, went outside and took all of the measurements. He asked a number of questions regarding our expectations and then said he would get back to us with a design. When we saw the design from both firms, it was clear that the 9 Trees approach was exactly what we wanted, so we checked references by driving to the locations where they had built patios before and ran into one of their customers unloading groceries. She let us take a look at her patio and had glowing comments about 9 Trees and said she was going to have an addition later this year as well. We got our estimate and it was in line with our expectations. We put down the deposit and was given a start date. 9 Trees called a week or so later and asked if they could start earlier, and we commenced the project. The project was done in about 6 weeks and they had 3 crew members do nearly all of the work. There was over 220 tons of gravel alone, and the work commenced daily, and the site was as clean as you can make a construction site every night. They removed a section of our fence to move the materials in and out, and it was put back every night so that our pets would not escape. The old deck was removed within a day, and the patio was built to perfection. The design was excellent and the workmanship superb. We commented that this was the first time that we had a contractor come in and exceed our expectations in every category. I would strongly recommend 9 Trees and we love our new patio !

When there was a delay in the start date, called the company & spoke to the owner, Matt. He explained that the company had never done work in the city of Columbus, and they were acquiring / completing the necessary documentation for the city of Columbus licensing / building permit process. He added that there was much involved, but the work should begin soon. We later learned that the company never obtained a license with the city ( not required) and that a building permit was taken out in our name. We were made aware of this by the city inspector, who explained that having the contractor licensed & they apply for a permit is an added safeguard to the homeowner in that if any problems arise with the new construction after the final city inspection the homeowner can ask for the city's assitance in getting these issues resolved. When we reviewed the listing of contractors on the city's site, we discovered thsat the other two companies that bid on this project were licensed with the city. At one point in the application process , Scott stopped by our home & explained that the permit application required the homeowner's signature to be witnessed by a notary, which required a trip to our credit union to complete this. As he was leaving, Scott casually mentioned that there may be an increase in the proposal due to the permit cost, but did not provide us with any specific figure, nor any revised proposal for us to review. We were somewhat dumbfounded by this, since we have been involved in a number of home renovation projects and have never had to pay for permits, nor be involved in the actual permit process. Once the project was completed & ready for the final inspection, the inspector denied the final inspection, due to the brackets attached to the ledger board not having screws or nails in all the holes. Nine trees promptly came to our home to remedy this issue. The gentleman that completed this work told us he would call in an inspection request that day so the final inspection would be done the following day. This was not done, as we learned by checking with the city. We also learned that the city allows two inpections per inpection fee ( $125) and therefore another $125 would have to be paid to schedule the final inspection. We went to the city department ourselves, paid the fee and the inspection was completed on May 13, 2013. There was no follow up call by Nine Trees to us, offering an apology for this oversight. Once we received the final invoice, it was incorrect, not crediting us with our Angies List discount. It also listed $200 for "permit fees". We do not feel are responsible for this fee, as this is part of a company's overhead, and if this company had researched the City of Columbus permit process they would have known what to expect before submitting as proposal to us.The company did amend the invoice to include to corrected Angies List discount & the extra inspection fee, but is still billing us for the permit fee. What is disturbing to us is the lack of response to two letter we sent the company about our disagreement with the inclusion of a "permit fee" owed by us. To this date we have not received a phone call, letter or email, as a customer service follow up to discuss our displeasure regarding this matter.

Response from 9 Trees Landscape Construction
9 Trees Landscape strives to perform work to the best of its ability, and provide the best quality service experience. It is unfortunate that the [member name removed] do not feel that they received this type of experience. We have outlined a response to the above concerns. • Scott Ross of 9 Trees used email & phone to keep the [member name removed] apprised of the delay due to the permitting process with the City of Columbus. • 9 Trees does in fact work in the City of Columbus nearly every day. We have completed several Pergola projects. This was the first attached to the house pergola completed in the City but not our first one overall. • Work was delayed by an estimated 2-3 weeks. • 9 Trees did obtain a contractor license (#G7528). The City did not process the application correctly and filed our business under Multi Family and Commercial instead of Single Family Residential. This error is being addressed by 9 Trees. • On the first visit to the City for the permit we were instructed to obtain a Contractor License # (Which Landscapers are not required to have), a $10,000 Bond, the homeowner would need to sign the application in front of a notary, and pay a $200 permit fee. We made every effort to complete these tasks as quickly as possible in order to not delay the process. • After the first visit to the City Zoning Office Scott Ross met with the [member name removed] to inform them of the delay and that there would be an additional $200 building permit fee that was not included in the original estimate. Scott Ross mentioned that the adjustment would be added to the final bill. [member name removed] said he understood, and did not request an updated proposal/estimate. • After the project was completed, but before the final inspection, Scott Ross did a final walkthrough to ensure that the [member name removed] were happy with how the project turned out. The [member name removed] had no complaints, and seemed to be genuinely happy with the project. No complaints or concerns were expressed at all up to this point. Scott Ross scheduled the first final inspection during the final walkthrough. • During the final inspection the inspector did not approve of the brand of screws we used (which were standard decking/carpentry 2 ½” screws). He required we use a specific brand screw or nails. We also needed to make sure all the holes had a screw or nail. With in 2 days our Service Manager installed the required nails ensuring each hole contained a nail. Our Service Manager did forget to call to schedule the new Final Inspection, however this was not intentional. • The [member name removed] followed up with the City Zoning Department but did not contact 9 Trees in regards to the final inspection. Had a phone call been made to 9 Trees we would have quickly corrected this oversight and there would have been no inconvenience to the [member name removed]. • The original quote for the project was $5,668. We applied the Angie’s List Discount upfront and quoted $5,348. After receiving the invoice with the additional permit fee the [member name removed] mailed in a check short of the $200 permit fee, $125 inspection fee, and Angie’s List Discount which had already been accounted. We corrected the invoice and mailed to the client. We regret not initiating a phone call at the point. • At this point we have dropped the $200 permit fee, $125 inspection fee, and the [member name removed] have received the Angie’s List discount twice. • There was a second letter sent from the [member name removed], but we did not receive it until the Friday before Memorial Day, and this Angie’s List Review was submitted with-in 24 hours after that. In closing we regret that [member name removed] feel they did not close the project with a good experience. Had there been better communication from both parties after the final inspection was done this situation could have been avoided. We will take this as a learning experience and continue to improve our processes to ensure we provide a professional and enjoyable experience.

9 Trees did a great job from beginning to end. Matt took the time to understand what we wanted in designing the patio we wanted. We were able to view the pavers available at the 9 Trees facility. We received 3 contractor bids. 9 Trees pricing was fair and competitive. It was the middle price of the three. We selected 9 Trees because we were aware of the quality of their work from various neighbors as well as the price. The weather cooperated the month of April and construction was able to start within 2 days of the original estimate. Construction went well with work completed within the time estimate. The workers did a great job maintaining and cleaning up the site when completed. 9 Trees did a great job on our patio and we would definitely use them again for any future outdoor jobs. Thanks to Matt and his associates for their fine work.

I was at work and when I came home, the light timer had been fixed and there were directions and additional lights on my porch. It was a great surprise to come home and the work had already been completed.
Description of Work: 9 Trees has performed many services for me including a new paver sidewalk that matched my existing patio, hardscape along the sidewalk in the front of my home and landscape lighting. Recently I noticed that the sensor on the light was not working and the lights were on 24/7. The lights are past the warranty, and 9Trees replaced the light sensor with a new timer that works great! 9Trees is extremely professional and provides an great service in all of the upgrades that I have received from them. I would (and have) recommended them.
