Competent Electrical Service

I needed to make sure they arrived on time because they had to coordinate with another worker on the mantle job. They came exactly on time and got the job done promptly.

A job well done. Despite the idiosyncrasies of an attic in an old house, everything turned out well.

I am very pleased with this company and their work. The owner, Jim, worked with me to come up with the best solution for this project, which made it easier for me to complete my part of the project (a complete rewire of the house). He responded quickly to my questions and was able to schedule the work around my schedule. The electrician, "JT," was courteous, professional, and did good work including cleaning up after himself and making sure I was happy with the work.

They worked with our hectic schedule and around the carpenter schedule to complete the work over several weeks. They were professional and cleaned up after themselves. We will and have recommended them.

The work went very well and the electricians were very courteous. They were able to work around the items in our basement and cleaned up when they were finished. They made sure to double check with us as to where exactly we wanted the new outlets and wall switch placed. After they initially installed the dining room chandelier, they were not upset when we changed our mind and asked them to readjust the height.

My first communication with this company over the phone was positive. The representative I spoke with (Joey) was friendly and helpful. On installation day the crew arrived late and I was on my way out the door for work. After briefly discussing the project, I decided to let them stay and perform the work, without me present. When I arrived home, the fan was installed and everything was clean and tidy. However, the controls were installed opposite of our request. I called to let the company know about the mistake and they offered to return and rectify it, at no charge. Overall, we are pleased with the final result, but wish there had been more organization/less confusion with the specified time of arrival and specifics of the job.

TRIED TO CALL NUMEROUS TIMES, ALL I GOT WAS ANSWERING MACHINE. AFTER 4 DAYS THEY CALLED AND SCHEDULED AN ESTIMATE; THAT WENT GREAT, SAID THEY WOULD EMAIL THE ESTIMATE [NEVER CAME], CALLED AGAIN NUMEROUS TIMES, SAME ANSWERING MACHINE, BUT NO RETURN CALL. HOURS ARE 8 TO 5, AND THAT HOW LONG MACHINE IS ON.

They were on time for the estimate, on time for each scheduled appointment to do work, friendly, neat, trustworthy, very fair pricing. I acted as a general contractor for the job, and they gave me many tips and helped me through the process.

They returned my phone call promptly, showed up when expected, finished the work quickly and charged less than the original quote. We'll use them again.

WOW!!!! Competent. Had someone to my house to provide a quote within an hour of my call. Emailed the quote to me and then started the work the next day and completed it the day after that. Steve did some very impressive work. Very professional, courteous, you name it. They did a very nice job trenching the power line out to my garage. It is obvious these folks take pride in their work. On top of all that, they also had great prices. Competent Electrical Services' quote was three times less than the other company (power to the garage portion of the invoice was < $300.00).

The electrician was scheduled to be there at 8:30 and by 9:15 no one had come or called me. I called the company and left a voice mail message. The electrician, Steve, got to my house at 9:18. He was very friendly, but did not apologize or mention anything about being late. No one from the company called in response to my voice mail message. Steve was friendly, neat, and did a nice job. He said he had never installed an undercabinet CD player, but was able to do so with the template provided by the manufacturer. He was not able to wire the CD player into the same electrical line, so he had to put another outlet inside the cabinet and then drill a hole through the bottom of the cabinet to run the plug to the outlet. It turned out OK, however, when I described what I needed when I originally called the company, I was told the CD player could be wired into the existing wiring.

Seemed good, but was cost competitive with another estimate we received. We just liked the other guy better, and it was a one-man operation so we went with him.

Jim came on time to fix the outdoor circuit and was professional and courteous. When Jim was here for the repair I talked to him about installing the outdoor fixture and he said it could be done, gave me a quote and said he could schedule it for the following week. The job was scheduled for the following Friday at 9am. Steve showed up at 9am on the dot and performed an excellent job. He cleaned up after himself and left me happy with a new light fixture by the back door and no mess to clean up. Both jobs were done cleanly, quickly and competently! We would definitely use them again.

Jim himself got back to me within a couple of hours and was able to come over after hours and fixed the faulty circuit on a Friday night. He was very efficient, knowledgeable, and courteous. It was terrific service and a reasonable price to have this problem handled on the same day that I called. I had never used their service before, but will sure use them again.

Jim was very professional from the first phone call to the end of the work. He arrived on time for the estimate, made great suggestions, and worked with us to arrive at a price within our budget that would maximize the amount of work we could get done at this time. It was fairly easy to schedule the work, from contacting him to finding the day we were both available. The only problem that occurred was the day the work was scheduled, we went about an 1 1/2 hours waiting for the electrician to arrive, and with no arrival, we left messages with Jim. Believe it or not, Jim had another electrician there for us that day who started the job. It was a fairly lengthy job, so Jim asked ahead of time if it would be OK to return Saturday to complete the work. So, the job was completed against what would be insurmountable odds for other companies! We will definitely call Jim when we can finish the re-wiring!!!

I called on a Monday morning, and they came out in the afternoon and quickly performed the job. I've used another electrician in the past for other jobs, but his company is no longer on Angie's List anymore for some reason. Competent was located very close to where I live and seemed to have good ratings from customers on Angie's List.

As I had requested, they called me at work 20 minutes before arriving at house so I could get home and let them in. They arrived when promised. Work took about 2 hours to complete. They cleaned up afterwards. Everything about the work was professional except for one negative: when drilling a hole through the bottom wall plate to pass cables outside, they put a small hole in the aluminum siding. They sealed the hole as best they could, but it can't really be repaired; they knocked off $40 from total bill to compensate.

While some problems were encountered with the placement of lights and the ability to run wires in the house, the Competent Electric team was outstanding in their workmanship, their professionalism, and the timeliness of calling, showing up for appointments scheduled and in working with us as homeowners to get exactly what we wanted. We are extremely happy with the work completed and will definitely contract with Competent Electrical Services in the future when the need arises. Great job to Jim and his team.

Jim and crew were EXCELLENT! Jim did a VERY thorough check of my house to determine how feasible our requests were, including spending lots of time in a hot attic! He even found another problem that we are addressing with our builder. His quote was significantly less than many of his competitors, but not so low that I worried about quality. He had excellent suggestions for ways to address some of the potential issues we had with putting in a light switch for some of the projects. Once we hired Competent, two of the nicest electricians EVER showed up to do the work! They were friendly, hard working, professional, and a lot of fun! They got the job done quickly, consulted us along the way, and cleaned up after themselves.I will recommed them to everyone and will DEFINITELY use them again! What a wonderful experience!

Outstanding service and quality of work ... professional, responsive, friendly, prompt, neat. Customer service is extremely important to this company. They made three trips to complete the job during a kitchen remodel (coordinating efforts with drywaller and cabinet installer) and each time they were prompt, efficient and friendly. I would definitely use this company in the future and highly recommend them. The prices were competitive and fair.

They were on time and kept me posted on hardware options and what they were doing. Kind of pricey but they were thorough and efficient. $40 trip charge and then $75 per hour, plus hardware.

I called for an estimate because I had a roof fan installed and I needed an electrician to hook it up. I left a message and they called me back the next day. They came out the day after that to give an estimate. We ended up going with another company because Competent Electrical could not do the work until next week and we needed to get it done. I would call him in the future if I needed any work done.

JIM WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO ACCOMODATE ME ON A SATURDAY. HE WAS ON TIME, FRIENDLY, EXTREMELY COMPETENT, AND FAIR WITH HIS PRICE. I RECOMMEND JIM MERRITT AND HIS BUSINESS, COMPETENT ELECTRICAL SERVICES TO EVERYONE!

JIM CAME OUT TWICE TO DO AN EVALUATION/QUOTE ESTIMATE. THE 2ND VISIT WAS A RESULT OF THE HOMEOWNER'S ''RE-ANALYSIS''. JIM WAS FRIENDLY, ACCOMMODATING, AND PROMPT BOTH TIMES. HIS 2 TECHNICIANS WHO DID THE WORK WERE COURTEOUS, EFFICIENT,AND INDEED ''COMPETENT''. THEY WERE RESPONSIVE AND ACCOMMODATING WHEN I ASKED THEM TO DO SOME EXTRA ''TIDY-UP'' OF PRE-EXISTING CORDS/CABLES WITH TIEBACKS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.
