Great! Alex diagnosed and fixed the problem very quickly. He was professional and friendly and the cost was very reasonable.

Jim did a great job on this project. Due his discovery of an HVAC vent inside the wall where I desired to place an outlet, this location could not be used. He was able to locate a suitable location close by my original choice and installed the outlet with no problems. A bathroom light fixture was replaced as well as the front doorbell. He replaced an old security light located on the gable of the garage. All work was done to my satisfaction.

I’ve used them before and am very happy with their work. They know what is required by code and all work easily passed inspection. They are busy, so I had to get put on their schedule, but they do excellent work.

The representative replaced a light sensor in an outdoor lamp post. When he checked to see if the work was done properly, the lamp post did not work. This was not due to him but rather he had to locate a GFI outlet that was in the ceiling of our basement. He could tell there was a GFI outlet somewhere on the property that had been tripped. He was truly knowledgeable regarding trouble shooting. Because of the time involved locating the GFI in the basement ceiling the price might have reflected the time involved.

Jim visited first to calculate an estimate, arriving on time and prepared to examine the equipment. He thoroughly went through the house and the generator, and let us know how much time would likely be needed to link the generator to the appliances in the house. We scheduled the work for two weeks out, and Jim was delayed by about 20 minutes - but called shortly before he was scheduled to appear to let us know he'd be a bit late. Major points for that. When Jim arrived, he went straight to work, examining the existing power grid from the generator to each appliance. He brought with him a label-maker, and printed out labels for each appliance that would be served by the generator. He double-checked each connection, then shut off the main power and confirmed that each of the essential appliances (well, furnace, fridge, etc.) would run on the generator. Well within his estimated budget, we covered all of the items on our repair list. Jim arrived with all the tools and parts he needed, he made sure he policed the area afterwards so there was no trash left behind, and he charged exactly what we had agreed to. We'll contact him whenever we need electrical work in the future.

I knew that it was quite a bit of work, as evidenced by it taking two electricians a total of 3.5 hours to complete all of work. Overall, the work went great. Jim Merritt was pleasant (and patient) as we worked together to schedule the visit. Phil and Adam were great electricians to work with on-site. They arrived on time, were professional the entire time on-site, and worked efficiently. I thought that power may need to be shut off while they worked, but not so. I furnished all of the fixtures as I wished to have updated energy efficient fixtures, and Competent Electric provided the labor. Fortunately I only had to make one trip to home depot while they were here to pick up light tubes that were compatible with the new electronic ballast I had them install. The experience was great and I will definitely use Competent Electrical Services again.

I have used Competent Electric many times and they are always consistent and professional. They have worked on 3 of my houses in the past and have used them for over 10 years. Jim is very responsive, gives you a fair and reasonable price for the work that is done and understands your needs and what you want done. Jim is very flexible and trustworthy. He and his team have access to my house when I'm not there and I fully trust them. I've given Jim's name to friends when I'm asked for a referral. You won't go wrong with using Competent Electric.

1 month ago I contact the owner to do some follow up work, had to call him 3 times. Still have not heard anything from them since I first called them 4 weeks ago. Spoke with manager/owner the first time but have not heard anything since then.

They were able to come out to repair with no additional charges. This right here shows great customer service that they provide. We are getting ready to use them again in the next few months. The guys did a great job installing my new ceiling fan/light on a sloped cathedral ceiling. The product information for the product I asked them to install was very misleading but they were still able to work around the issues and get it installed. Very happy with them.

Horribly. I really liked Jim, he was quick, easy to work with, I received a quote quickly and they could fit me in quickly. But the indivudal that performed the service was messy and either couldn't do something or didn't finish the job. 1. Outlet in floor - updated electric to outlet, but didn't install outlet cover (it wasn't even screwed into the floor) 2. Installed bathroom ceiling an - Left large amounts of dry wall all over the place and cut/drilled several unnecessary holes in ceiling. Also left a large quantity of dirty hand print on ceiling. Didn't clean up ANYTHING that came from the ceiling being cut out. 3. Kill electrical to old wiring, that we didn't know where it went - couldn't do suggested I build a box around the electrical instead. 4 . One room ceiling light not working - updated electric and got light working. 5. second room ceiling light not working - told me the beams in my house run one direction and he'd have to cut out an 8 foot section and drill through several beams. (guess what when my flooring people showed up, the pulled up the floor and the beams run the OTHER way. Informed electrician, still couldn't/didn't update light. 6. Change the 1 way and 3 way pulls in bedroom so lighting made sense - completed task, didn't install cover plates 7. Move 3 light switches in bath to one location - was only able to move 2 switches, after cutting 5 holes in the dry wall informed me he couldn't move the 3rd switch. I don't care if you need to cut holes to move the wiring, I'm drywalling in several areas of my house right now. but didn't you need to cut 5 holes only to inform me there is a beam there and you can't do it? Also cut hole for 3 gang switch plate, but becuase he couldn't move final switch simply installed a 2 gang box and coverplate, leaving an awkward hold. Lets be honest that isn't something you can really patch, they should have gotten a 2 toggle and 1 blank cover plate to hide the issue and cover the entire hole. Jim came and fixed many of my issues. But several things were still "not able to be done." Jim did provide me an additional discount for the frusteration and the time. Positive, when my flooring was ripped out we found some live knob and tube, Jim rearranged schedules so an electricain could come out while the floor was up. This was very helpful since I couldn't just leave massive holes in the floor, and my flooring crew did need to keep a schedule.

We had scheduled another electrician to come out on Saturday to do this work before painters came to the house on Tuesday. When the scheduled electrician did not show up for the appointment, I called and emailed several other electricians. Apparently, it is very hard to get ahold of an electrician on the weekend? I was desperate as this work absolutely needed to be completed before the painters arrived. Of the many electricians I attempted to contact, Competent Electrical was one of only two that called me back and they were the only one to do so on Sunday. On top of that, the person I talked with was very courteous and understanding of the situation. He scheduled a crew to come out first thing Monday morning. While I couldn't be there while the work was being performed, it all appeared to be done correctly at at a reasonable price. The best part was getting a call back on the weekend! Thank you, Competent Electrical. They will, of course, now be the first electrician I call for any future work.

These guys were EXCELLENT! I filled out a request form on their website and received a call within a few hours later. They fit us in their schedule so we only had to wait a few days. Two men showed up and got right to work and got the job done quickly. They were running behind schedule by 15 minutes because they had to stop and get parts but the CALLED to tell us in advance. Their prices were the best estimate I received and I will be using them again for other little jobs I will need to get done in the future. Again, this company takes their work seriuosly, they are reliable,efficant and reasonably priced. I would give them an A+++++++ rating

When Jim came out to provide the estimate, he was timely and professional. He quoted me a reasonable price for the work to be done. The personnel who installed the outlets were also professional. I would not hesitate to recommend Competent Electrical Services to anyone requiring any electrical work.

I really appreciate this company because a couple of other electrical service companies, including the one I usually call, had told me they were too busy and that I should call someone else. This company came out on the next business day after I called. They couldn't do a repair because we couldn't get the popping sound to happen again, but the repairman removed the switch plate and inspected it anyway. He didn't charge me for a service call. Competent Electrical Services is my new "go to" company whenever I need electrical service.

This is the first time I've used this company. I found them on Angie's List and chose them because of their reputation. They arrived two days after the call. The worker was efficient and competent.
