Competent Electrical Service

Very good experience from start to finish. I got an estimate from Jim, then waited a few days while other estimates came in. Jim wasn't the least expensive, and by far was not the most expensive. The reason I went with his company is that he specifically tallied up the cost of supplies and labor, verses telling me a rough figure. No surprises. The technician arrived toward the beginning of the service window and quickly took care of the service. He was efficient and pleasant, even when he had to work around a HVAC guy who ran late on his service window. Thanks for great customer service.

Jim Merritt and his team are great to work with. Phil was the lead electrician on my job. He is very professional, a good communicator, and there were no issues. It was a significant amount of work, but it was completed in three distinct stages: general electrical work, box replacement, and generator/transfer switch install. Each stage was completed in one day and left my house in good order. Even better, the install was completed a week before the June 29, 2012 storms. The generator ran the house including AC for 52 hours without a hitch. We are very pleased!

The appointment started late, but Jim stayed until he had completed all of the work. He was very professional and took great care to clean up after himself. The fans look beautiful and work wonderfully. Although the work took longer than he had estimated, he did not charge us more than what he had quoted us.

In and out in a few hours. They always do excellent work.

Called for appt before office hours, Call service took all information and the owner called back within 30 minutes of the office opening. Was willing to come out the same day, but made appt for next day as per my request. Was able to come within a timeframe that I specified. The techinicians we on-time, polite and very pleasant. They got to work quickly, tracing the faulty line and repairing minor fixes to outlets along the way. The entire service lasted less than one hour. They explained all of the items they found and the minor repairs they made along the way. They were also willing to discuss in general some other questions regarding services I would like to have performed in the future.

He did a good job. For what they did, I believe they were cost effective. They added five GFI breaker, two external junction boxes, and two grounded floor outlest and ground the corregated gas pipes. With all that, pricing was great.

The brother's arrived a little late however they contacted, did the work on time (quick) and were very clean & polite. They completed all work within 1 day and the power was only off for 2 hours. They upgraded our electrical panel so we can have our hot tub and all other appliances running. They were great.

They discovered that the insulation was touching a live line, and that was causing a smell that I noticed. The company has grown from just him to several employees since I started using him. He and his company do a wonderful job and I plan to use them again.

I spoke with the owner to schedule an appointment and verify and the cost. Their electrician called prior to appointment to let me know he was on his way. He inspected my service, tested the various outlets on the circuits that were tripping and replaced the damaged gfi outlet.

Mr. Merrit gave me a free estimate on Thursday. He sent me the estimate via email as I asked him to do. The next Tuesday his apprentice came and did the work. It took about 4 hours. It went very smoothly. Everything works very well. The installer arrived about an hour late, so he was not exactly punctual. However, he did call to let me know he would be late. Overall, my experience was excellent.

I have used this service many times in the past and have never been disappointed with the electrical work that has been done. He has always gone out of his way to diagnose the problem and correct it. Following his last visit, it took us several weeks to notice that the floor molding in the bar where he worked had been taken apart and not replaced. Since several weeks had passed, we tried to remember if there was any one else who could have taken the molding apart. There was no one who could have done it. I called his answering service and told them the problem and asked him to call me to explain his role in the failing to replace the molding. If he confirmed his responsibility, I would expect him to repair the damage or have it repaired. He has not returned my call. Although I have been pleased with the electrical work he has done, I will not use his company in the future because of this lapse of professionalism. 14 July 2011 The owner of the company called me and he agreed to send some one to replace the the molding. This was done to my satisfaction. I differ with the owner concerning my effort to contact him. I did not leave the message on his answering machine but with his answering service. Besides informing him of the problem I asked that he call me. I subsequently left another message requesting a call without giving any further detail. After waiting a reasonable amount of time without receiving a return call, I wrote my evaluation of the encounter to you. He called. He responded. Case closed in my opinion.

Overall, everything went well. No drama. No confusion. I called and they answered. An estimate was done quickly. I was warned ahead of time that holes in the drywall might be necessary. A service date was quickly arranged. On the day of the service, the electrician called ahead to let me know he was running a bit late. The work was done by one person in a little more than 2 hours. The final price was about 150 dollars under the original quote. Another plus, the new outlets were able to be placed without making holes in the drywall.

It was excellent. I called decribing an electrical problem. Owner called me back promptly AND had an electrician to my home the same day. The electrician found the problem immediately and corrected without delay. He also checked the breaker box and fixed another switch without complaint or delay. AND cleaned up his mess. He was competent, thorough, efficient and pleasant. Thank you, Thank you. I will definitely have him back for more work in the future.

I called on Monday, was given a quote higher than what it ended up costing me. JT came out Thursday, on time ,did the above mentioned work in 2 hours in addition to answering many questions about future projects. He was professional, very helpful and kept the area clean. I have a hole in the ceiling where he removed the ceiling fan but they informed me ahead of time that they do not repair drywall....The only reason I mention this is because I noticed another review that was upset about this but I knew what to expect ahead of time. The hole is very small and easily repaired. I will definitely use them again and would recommend to others

We received a flier in our mail, which is not how I usually find providers, but they were listed on Angies List and checked out well, so I gave them a call for an estimate. Jim was prompt arriving for the estimate and straightforward about the cost of all items on my list, and he had great ideas about improving our family room lighting. We received the estimate by e-mail over the weekend and had time to look it over before calling to schedule the work. Scheduling was easy and an electrician and helper arrived on schedule and worked professionally and courteously throughout most of one day to complete the work. It is great to have our lighting needs taken care of. We are happy with all of the work and will use them again should the need arise.

Good but there are now two holes on my wall!! They didn't install plates when they ran the wires for the TV. Now I have two holes and I need to go buy plates so it doesn't look so horrible.

I was pleased with my interactions with Jim and his crew. He ended up sending a crew of three so that one could focus on the attic and the other two worked on the ceiling fans. This made the job go quickly and did not appreciably change the price (less than $10, if I recall correctly). They were timely and polite.

After the job was completedI and the electrician left, we noticed the new wallpaper had been damaged and could not possibly be repaired. The electrician said nothing about it. I called Jim Merritt but had to leave a message. To this day I haven't received a call from him. After a very costly remodel, all I see when I walk into the powder room is the damaged wallpaper and I haven't even been given the courtesy of a phone call. We used Competent Electrical many times previously and we were always very pleased with their work and professionalism. This experience was a huge disappointment and under the circumstances, we won't be calling them in the future.

I contacted Competent Electric because the company was rated very high on Angie's list and was in the Westerville area where I reside. ( I like to support Westerville contractors and vendors). The entire project was done in one day and I was most pleased with the results. Jim Merrit, the owner, and his installer, JT, were great people to work with. They knew what they were doing and got the job done right. Additionally, JT returned the next day to balance two of the ceiling fans because that were wobbling. He completed that adjustment and everything has been operating well.

Competent Electric was timely, considerate and did a great job. They took extra care to make sure we were satisfied with the work and offered an estimate that was several hundred dollars below other companies we asked for quotes. The final price was exactly what we expected and the work was completed in only one day. I would definitely recommend them.

TJ saved me a little bit of money by telling me what to get at Home Depot. When purchased, I set up the appointment and he arrived on time an installed it quickly I will use the company again if I have any electrical problems to be solved

I was treated OK. The guy was here for about an hour and a half. I was given an Angie's List discount as well. I would hire them again. I?m going to be needing an entire breaker box installed.

Very well. We had one period where he promised to return call with information needed to proceed on work in one or two days, and it took a week. Not a big deal, work was all top notch.

The service was great and he completed the work on a Friday night at 9pm. Not the ideal situation to be working on electric but he made it a very plesant exp.
