I was very pleased with the entire experience. Eric was great at doing what he needed to do to fix the problems and provide the necessary information. Price seemed reasonable, gave discounts on the work with the contract agreement for year long service. Also honored the $25 Angie's list coupon.
Description of Work: Air conditioning had stopped working, had quick response from the company, they came out the next day when they said they would. Blower motor had stopped. Technician removed it and got a new one and installed it. Checked the outside unit, added refrigerant. Changed out a low performing thermostat to a higher grade model with programmable options. Technician was very patient, helpful, and explained what he was doing throughout the job and why. He also warned us of possible problems in the future due to new Federal guidelines. We also paid for a year service contract. They will come out and service the furnace and do the air conditioning again in the Spring for $168.

The installation repairman was clean, helpful and knowledgeable. The first diagnostic technician didn't resolve the problem, so they had to send another one out the next day. It took over two weeks to get the replacement part after two days of trying to figure out what was wrong. We couldn't use the A/C during this time. We wish the part could have been obtained or installed sooner.

THROUGH NUMEROUS CALLS TO THE SUPPLIER TO BE ABLE TO FIND A NEW COIL WITH THE DIMENSIONS TO FIT, IT WAS ORDERED ON 6-29-2006. WE RECEIVED THE NEW COIL 7-5-2006 AND CALLED THAT DAY TO SCHEDULE IT'S INSTALLATION FOR 7-10-2006. WITH THE HIGHER EFFICIENCY COOLING SYSTEMS TODAY THE INDOOR COILS ARE LARGER AND IT PRESENTS THE INDUSTRY WITH A REAL CHALLENGE AT TIMES OF FINDING COILS TO FIT CERTAIN APPLICATIONS. WE ARE VERY SORRY FOR THE DELAY OF REPAIRING YOUR EQUIPMENT. I'M SURE IT SEEMED LIKE AN ETERNITY BEING WITHOUT COOLING. Arrived early in the a.m. when was scheduled to come later in the day. Job was done as requested but significant mark up on the thermostat unit. Charged $300 for unit that I found out should have cost around $100. Also, face plate was not in so I had to schedule a separate appointment and be home to wait for them to come out again to install it. Filter that was recommended was quoted at $50 but I obtained one on my own for $10. I obtained the size recommended but still not sure if it it the right one. He will be coming back shortly to install face plate so I plan to confirm with him then.

Everyone was very polite, they cleaned up after they completed the job. Due to the initial system ordered not being delivered on time, they offered a better system for a minimal increase in price(200 vs 800)and a better warranty to be installed the same day which was agreeable to us. The price was $1300 less than another company's estimate.
Description of Work: We had a new air conditioner installed with UV light and an additional air filter. The new system is 14 SEER.

I scheduled a standard servicing of the AC for May 27. They said they would come in the am between 8-12. I waited all morning and no one came or called. I tried to call the office around 11:30 and again at 12:30, but was put on endless hold (it was Saturday and I later discovered that the office was closed). Days later when I finally contacted the office they confirmed the appointment, but had no idea why no one had showed up. It was an astonishingly bad performance for such a highly rated company!

The company was able to get a technician to my house within only a couple of hours! Unbelievable! He was very courteous. Advised me on what I will need to be looking at doing about a system in the future, but was not pushy at all and said he thought he could get my system working to last at least another season and maybe longer. Did a few things extra that he wouldn't have needed to do and didn't charge extra. His name was Bill Craig, I believe.
Description of Work: Air conditioner was not blowing very cool air; repairman defrosted the coil and recharged system. Cleaned outside unit and basement drain.

They aren't always prompt with their yearly appointments. I like the quality of there work. I have never had any complaints. They never leave a mess, and wear slippers on their shoes. They are honest, and I only have to pay for a filter. I have a contract that covers all services for the year.

The installation was subpar. A duct off the trunk was left unconnected, blowing hot air into the basement. This was a mistake from a previous installation/homeowner, but as professionals, the installers from Jacob Bros. should have caught it. I fixed it myself because it was a quick fix. However, I think this was an isolated incident. 6 months after the installation, I ran into a problem with the thermostat that was not the fault of Jacob Bros., and Gary Jacob in particular was very responsive and made it clear that customer satisfaction is very important to them. He met me halfway to help take the sting out of the cost of the repair, even though the problem was not their fault. I would recommend a close inspection of their work, and follow up with a phone call at the first sign of trouble. If you do so, I have found that Jacob Bros. will make sure you are satisfied.

They were very competent. The receptionist called to let us know whenever they were on their way. It was a good experience. The additional service calls were covered by warranty at no cost.
Description of Work: They came to perform service on our malfunctioning furnace. They had to come back about 4 times because the problem was not happening consistently. They replaced a part, and asked some questions about our filter. We put a new one in, and were still having the problem. The last guy who came out got it fixed.

Originally called in November to schedule appt for early in December, but appt was cancelled by Jacob Bros per too many customers without heat. They kept in contact with me each week since the initial cancellation, and finally were able to schedule me in the last week of December so be sure to schedule service calls early ! :) The Angie's List coupon comes in handy - that's $25.00 off! Service rep was courteous and personable. He took the time to explain what he did, and also to alert me to potential issues that may arise (motor possibly going out) due to the furnace being over 30 years old. I will do business with them again, and recommend them to anyone.

The overall experience was very positive. The quality of work was very good, it solved the airflow problem exactly as I had hoped. They did not overpromise on what they would deliver, and I appreciated the honesty when they told me which parts of the outcome were uncertain. The estimator was knowledgeable and practical, and straight forward with me about the cost (most of the cost would be labor since it was a small job), and that the scheduling would have to be last-minute due to the small size and the busy schedule. I had to place follow-up calls once or twice to make sure the scheduling and estimating process was moving along, but this was the only (minor) trouble I encountered.
Description of Work: They estimated and performed HVAC duct replacement work in my basement. Removed old 6-inch ducting in my basement leading to two second story-rooms which weren't getting adequate airflow, and replaced them with larger ducts. Installed baffles in the new ducts. Silicone caulked around the joints, where one of the ducts attached to an old vented box before leading to an in-wall duct to the stairs, which was restricting the airflow to that room, they removed the vent from the box (reducing air loss) and installed a sheet-metal scoop inside the box, to more efficiently direct air into the upward ducting. They also replaced the joint leading from the plenum with a less restrictive shape bend.

Jacob Brothers came one on of the first cold days of the area. They contacted me about 1 hour before arriving & spent 5 hours fixing it & getting the parts from downtown. They explained usage. Also, they signed me up for their yearly premier & check plan, which also gave me a discount on this current service. They serviced it on the timing they promised, spent the time needed to fix the problem, handled the warranty of the parts, and explained overall heating concepts. Overall -- very friendly service.
Description of Work: My heater was making a burning smell. One of the heating coils was burned out, & fell into the engine which was also ruined. Both parts had to be replaced.

HE HAD US OVER A BARREL, YET HIS PRICE SURPRISED US THAT HE WAS SO REASONABLE. JOB 2 INSTALLATION OF NEW 95% EFFICIENCY GOODMAN FURNACE. WELL IT DID NOT SEEM TO TAKE LONG FOR THEIR TECHNICIANS TO BE ON SITE, USUALLY WITHIN AN HOUR AND BACK THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED. THEY EVEN WERE IN TOUCH WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO TROUBLE SHOOT THE PROBLEM. FURNACE WAS WORKING SECOND NIGHT AND WE ARE ON OUR WAY TO LOWER GAS & ELECTRIC COSTS DUE TO THE SPECIAL FEATURES IN OUR NEW FURNACE.

I CALLED JACOB BROS BECAUSE MY PILOT LIGHT WAS SPARKING A LOT BEFORE ACTUALLY LIGHTING EACH TIME THE FURNACE TURNED ON. I ALSO JUST WANTED A YEARLY CHECK-UP FOR MY HEATER. MY REPAIRMAN WAS JIM. I WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR A 3-HOUR WINDOW IN WHICH JIM WOULD ARRIVE (BETWEEN 1PM AND 4PM), BUT HE ACTUALLY ARRIVED AROUND 4:10PM. HE WAS POLITE AND FRIENDLY, BUT NOT TOO TALKATIVE. HE GOT RIGHT DOWN TO BUSINESS, CHECKED MY PILOT LIGHT, MADE SOME MINOR ADJUSTMENTS, THEN MADE SURE THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN. THE WHOLE APPOINTMENT LASTED ABOUT 30 MINUTES.
