I am very satisfied with the company. It's very easy to get them in for an appointment. They are friendly. I would recommend them to friends and family. I have used them in the past. They come out twice a year and check on our things to make sure everything is fine. They do a great job. Prices are a little high but it is worth the price to get the job done right.
Description of Work: They do our maintenance and repair for our furnace and air conditioning unit. $400.00 a year on the maintenance agreement.

I made the appointment on April 22, 2008 for June 16, 2008. I thought it was kind of a long wait, but in between they did call me because they had a cancellation and tried to squeeze me in, but I couldn't accommodate as it was last minute. June 16, 2008 was a Monday and I received a call the Friday prior stating that their service technician would be out between 8-9:30AM. I didn't have my calendar on me when I received the call, but when I looked at it, I had requested from Margie on April 22, 2008 that I get a one hour call ahead which she said they would be able to accommodate, so I thought it unusual to get a call the Friday before. I work very early, so called and got their answering service at 7:30AM on Monday in order to request a 30 minute call ahead. The service technician who was assigned my call (Rick) made the call 30 minutes prior to his arrival, but unfortunately he went to my voicemail because I was dealing with a work issue. When he called back 30 minutes later and stated he was at my house, I told him that I would have to reschedule because I didn't get the prior call that went to voicemail. I asked him about a fee for having to reschedule and he asked if I could get back to my home within about 30 minutes; I stated yes and he graciously offered to get started on the outside unit while I made my way back to the house. I was very grateful. Unfortunately, when I got back to my condominium complex, Rick was actually working on the wrong unit. When I told him, he took it in stride and didn't even seem bothered. He just got to work on the correct unit and was very professional and cordial.
Description of Work: Air conditioning tune-up and refrigerant fill-up.

I contacted several companies for estimates as well as to determine how quickly they could come out for the repair. Since it was on the weekend I got an answering service in most cases, who indicated they would advise the company and have them contact me. One has yet to call me back. I called Jacob Bros(answering service) a short time later I received a call from a Technician who discussed my problem and stated he could come to my residence in a couple of hours to diagnose and complete the repair. I agreed and true to his word he was at our residence as promised. He ran several test on our heating/AC unit and determined that we needed a new motor. The technician replaced the old motor with a new one and our AC is working perfectly again.
Description of Work: Started to hear an unusual humming sound coming from my home air conditioning unit. After two days of this the AC unit stopped cooling. It was determined that a new motor was required for the furnace/AC.

The technician arrived during the scheduled time and was prompt and courteous. He explained the objectives of each step of the process and even added more refrigerant without charge. The lower punctuality is due to some confusion on the schedule. This work was originally scheduled at the end of last year for this April, but somehow was deleted from their calendar. I called two weeks before the original scheduled date to confirm I needed to be home, and found out about the deletion. The dispatcher apologized and rescheduled as promptly as their calendar would allow.
Description of Work: Routine maintenance on A/C. Cost reflects complete annual package for both furnace and A/C. A/C service included inspection, acid wash of coils, and a check of refrigerant level.

It went very well considering they had to come out 3 different times in order to complete the job due to poor weather conditions and my husband's work schedule. I was not present when the work was completed but my husband said the men that came out were professional and courteous and cleaned up very well after each time out (a big plus in my book)! Prior to them coming out, I had called them and spoke to someone about the brand of furnace they use, as I had never heard of this brand before, and the man I spoke to was very helpful and answered all my questions. **Just a side note here, our final cost was a little higher than was stated on the quote, BUT that is due to some additional things we wanted done after they started the job.

Service Tech Jason O.; very professional, courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. As I was the new owner of this house, I had no idea when current furnace and A/C were installed; Jason thinks it was about 1998, going by a serial # on furnace; no pressure to buy new furnace; he said current one working fine, after installing new igniter and filters (had electrostatic metal filters in bad shape; he installed paper filters, stating they're better these days). Quick scheduling, considering I called them in early March and they came on 3/11/08. My only complaint is the White-Rodgers thermostat isn't true to temp readout, but service tech says might have something to do w/sensor being on a cold wall or basement temp; as long as it remains true to the lower readouts, I'm satisfied.
Description of Work: Overall check on heating and coming back to check A/C, as too cold now; A/C check already paid for in the $534. Furnace had not been checked for at least 2 years. New igniter, 2 new filters, and a programmable thermostat installed.

The rep completely tested the furnace to determine what was causing the noise. Although the root cause of the noise was not determined, he confirm that mechanically the furnace is fine. It is no longer making the noise.

Our heat stopped working on a Sunday morning; their emergency service line actually connected me to a real person (unlike the company from which the furnace was purchased who didn't call for 3 hours). They were courteous and within 30 minutes I received a call from the technician (Rick) who would be coming to the house. They were very up-front about the emergency service rate. Once at the house he was courteous, provided good explanations and we ended up getting the part fixed the next day to save a couple hundred dollars.

We have a maintenance agreement. They call to remind us, show up on time are honest, neat, and ALWAYS complete the work. They will do what it takes. Great Company, I would leave ANY of their technicians in my home alone without any worry!

Good work. A little messy on the scheduling (a big stickler for me) and on return, they brought the wrong motor, but overall very good.
Description of Work: Serviced the pilot light as it had gone out. Also replaced an inducer motor on the furnace as the bearing was showing signs of failing.

The work went well. When the technician arrived, we discussed what was going on with the house. We took a tour of the house to explain to him how the heating was set up and then showed him the furnace area. He didn't try to sell us any other services, except that maybe we would want to check into the maintenance contract. He made a couple of suggestions for us to try and keep the house warmer without costing us anything and then if it didn't work, that we might want someone else to come out and look at the design of the house to determine if there was something else that could be done. After trying what he suggested and having the furnace serviced, the house is much warmer. We are also considering the maintenance contract as well based on the service we received.
Description of Work: Checked the furnace and the house to try and determine why the house was cold even when the thermostat said it 70 degrees. Checked the humidifier to determine if still working.

After speaking with Jacobs' office representative on two occasions, I was told that a technician would be out on Saturday, 12/8/07, to service my furnace. I was also to receive another call before then with a time to expect him. I did not receive that call, nor did they send a tech out to my home.

Jacob Bros is reliable in keeping appointments. Phone dispatcher was very, very pleasant as was the service technician/repairman. All in all a good job and a job handled both timely and professionally. My only other comment would be about Jacob Bros pricing which seems high all things considered. You must pay for estimates. I did receive a $25 discount for initial call for estimate as a member of Angie's List. Cost of repair trips was pretty high. All that written I will use Jacob Bros again.
Description of Work: Jacob Brothers diagnosed problem with hot water boiler system as insufficient expansion tank capacity. Serviceman gave me an estimate to add an additional expansion tank to my hot water boiler system. I would keep old expansion tank operating for needed system capacity. Jacob Bros returned to do work all went well with installation of second tank but technician determined that original tank was bad so it, too, had to be replaced. I now have two new expansion tanks and all should work well.

The entire experience went very well. John called the night before to arrange the time and was here exactly as stated. He wore covers over his shoes while in the house, and left everything neat and tidy. The cost was as stated before hand ($79 less the $25 Angie's list coupon) since no parts were needed. He was at our house for 1 1/2 hours.
Description of Work: I called them because the furnace burner would only run for about 3-4 minutes at a time even though the temperature in the house was still below the thermostat setting. The burner would turn off, and then restart in about 1 minute. This cycle was repeated over and over. John came and checked the temperature rise from the return air to the heated air, removed the blower to search for obstructions, observed the temperature switch that controls the blower and high temperature cutoff and could find nothing wrong. He explained that while a properly engineered system shouldn't do this, it was not a problem and the furnace was doing what it should do when the exit temperature got too high.

The technician explained to me that my problem was airflow; my AC unit was a bit much for my small air ducts to handle, so cool air was not making it upstairs to cool the house, and was instead just forming ice around the unit. He replaced my filter with one that would allow more air flow and advised me to run the fan setting rather than auto to be sure air would continually circulate through the system. I saw a great improvement after this. I really appreciated the explanation of what was going on with the unit.
Description of Work: My two year old air conditioner was running constantly and the unit was icing up.

Gary Jacobs came out and gave us an estimate on the work. He was explained, in detail, how the system would work, and left us a lot of information on geothermal heating/cooling systems. Our water comes from a well, and he was willing to work with us on using a trench system for the pipes as opposed to the deep well system they usually use (we did not want to risk disturbing the water table/well field). The installers showed up on the day they were supposed to, and were there every morning on time. They never left any messes for us to deal with. The system went in with no problems, and came up just in time for the multiple days of 90-100 degree heat we have been having. It has worked flawlessly, and our house cooled much more evenly then it has been in the past. I would definitely recommend this company.
Description of Work: Jacob Brothers installed a geothermal heating and cooling system in our house. This system replaced the existing heat pump & air conditioning system that was 10 years old.

The work to fix the air conditioner was satisfactory. The appointment creation and confirmation process was challenging. Jacob Bros normally confirms via a phone call before the technician starts going to the customer's home. Jacob Bros claims that this call was made, but we never received the phone call. This caused a delay in over 1 week. These types of service may be challenging for the dual-spouse working home.
Description of Work: Fixed a non-operating air conditioner. One part was not operational.

Set-up appointment with sales person after service visit to look at options/costs for replacing failing system. He arrived promptly and I was impressed by how helpful he was without trying any up selling. Also took plenty of time to understand our needs and capacity of existing duct work. He was given plenty of time to work estimate, but system then failed. When calling back promptly talked with sales person who faxed estimate within the hour. We had no time for competitive bids due to failure, but prices seemed average to high based on estimates from others, but were not apples to apples comparisons. Install was scheduled in just a few days, and clearly they were working to help us. Installation was excellent, technicians were prompt, informative and skilled. As example of installation quality, drainage was routed through PVC pipes, including existing water softener line. Install looks very professional, and look forward to many reliable years of service.
Description of Work: Initially refilled Freon in a failing A/C as part of a service call, but when the A/C failed, replaced A/C and Furnace (as overall upgrade). Work included replacing A/C (upgraded from 10 to 14+ SEER system, and from 2.5 ton to 3 ton unit), furnace (upgraded to 2-stage, variable blower), lines to AC, and all necessary duct work and electrical. For comparison, system was considered a higher tier system with lifetime and 10 year warranties. System that was replaced was an 11 year old contractor grade system installed by Airtron, which also turned out to be undersized.
