Technician arrived on time, worked quickly, and was finished within the hour. We were pleasantly surprised that the $139 charge for cleaning quoted on the phone included tax--with the Angie's list discount, the total came to $114. The invoice was very specific, with detailed description of work done.

Chris was able to determine that a vacuum hole in the starter motor cabinet was blocked, thus telling trhe furnace to turn off. He cleared the hole and cleaned out the motor cabinet, then sealed a portion of the surface to make sure that additional blockage did not occur. It was determined by Chris that this was actually a continuation of the December call when he solved a related problem, so there was no added charge.
Description of Work: Our heat went out last nigfht. I called Locke at about 3 A.M. and left a message. Around 5 or 6 A.M., Deena called back and said she would try to get someone out in the afternoon (despite very snowy and icy conditions). We were called before noon by Chris who had come out previously in December. He made it within a couple hours, again despite the road conditions.

I am concerned about what is really wrong. We had the company out in late November for the furnace not turning on correctly. They came out and told us that the sensor was not functioning properly but when he put a meter on it, he told us that usually at that reading the furnace would work but for some reason ours was not(however it was working at the time he was there). He told us that it needed to be "cleaned" so he "cleaned" it and we paid $250+. Approx. 6 weeks later it is doing the same thing and now we are being told that the motor is out on the exhaust system. I guess I just wonder if the same thing can go wrong within 6 weeks of each other and be different things wrong. I just fear that we are going to be paying another $1000 plus service call in 6 weeks from now. Our furnace is not even that old(2002 I think he said). I guess I just wonder if the prior "work" really diagnosed and treated the real problem or if he just couldn't find the real problem since it was working at that moment. Now we are out the $200+ and the first service call because of it. They are prompt but won't let you have time to confer with your spouse even about big price jobs($800+)if you can't IMMEDIATELY reach them because if you don't tell them on the spot, they will charge you another service call even if they have to leave anyway to go get the parts they need. I guess all in all I would probably call around prior to using them again.

My heat went out while we were out of town so we returned to a cold home on New Years Day. I placed a call to Jacob Bros. the very next morning at 9:00 and a technician was at my door by 11:20 am. The problem was diagnosed and fixed very quickly. The technician was very knowledgeable and professional. I will use Jacob Bros. again in the future.
Description of Work: The technician tested my old igniter, replaced it and cycled the unit on. It fired back up the first time.

The service call went extremely well. The representative was polite and right on time. He not only took the time to answer my questions, but initiated the conversation by asking me if I had any questions. I think this is important and it really stood out in my mind. A few weeks afterwards I received a hand written letter and a check for $170. They had run my credit card twice by accident, but found the mistake and resolved it.
Description of Work: This report is for the recent annual maintenance of my gas furnace. The $170 includes a $25 coupon and represents a yearly service agreement for them to check my heating, air conditioning and humidifier.

I called early in the morning to request to have the repair made. They returned my call early in the morning the next day and I was given a time frame between noon and 4:00 pm and advised me that the tech would call prior to arriving. He did not call until 4:15 and did not arrive until 5:00. He inspected the furnace and advised me that a part needed to be replaced. He advised me that they would need to come back for the repair, in which I would be charged another service fee. I had a coupon that I wanted to use for the visit, but he advised me that the coupon would not be applied until the return visit. I spoke with the office and was advised that the coupon would have applied and they advised me that there may have been a misunderstanding since the technician was new. They advised me to mail in the coupon and they would send me out a refund in the form of a check as opposed to issuing the credit to the credit card I had paid with (which was what I had preferred). I believe the coupon issue should be resolved. They left me bill with part number that they said needed to be replaced. I found out that the part number on the bill was incorrect. I have since found another company to do the repair at a better rate.
Description of Work: They came out to repair my furnace which went out on one of the coldest days of the year.

There was no charge since I had already paid for yearly maintenance. I made an appointment and had to wait approx. 2 weeks for them to come out. That was okay since I wasn't having problems. The technician showed up as promised and everything seemed fine at first; however, that evening I could hear a loud humming coming up through the vents. I called and they sent the same technician back out. Again, everything seemed fine until the next day. The weather was pretty mild so I didn't realize the pilot was out until around noon when the temperature in the house went down to 64 degrees. Again, they had someone come out right away, but sent a different technician this time. He re-lit the pilot light and everything seemed fine, until my air kicked on one day I could smell what seems to be a mildew smell coming from the vents. This wasn t there prior to their visit and I suspect it has something to do with the humidifier they put in when they installed our air conditioning unit. I haven t called them back yet because I just don t feel like dealing with it again. In the past, I ve subscribed to If it ain t broke, don t fix it, but they convinced me that by doing preventative maintenance I would save myself time and money. This has been a frustrating experience.

They have some of the most polite service people I've ever dealt with. They always show up on time. Plan ahead because it can be difficult to get an appointment with them. They always wear booties on their feet so they don't track dirt or anything in. They go through in detail what work they have done each time, so I know what they did and how well the unit is running. I also feel that by getting regular maintenance from them, my unit runs a lot better. I also have not had any problems from their services. I have had them do major work in the past and also install a humidifier and everything is still running smoothly.
Description of Work: I pay Jacob Brothers Heating & AC a yearly contract for $280. The contract consists of two maintenance checks, one in the fall and one in the spring. I also receive a discount for parts and labor under the contract.

I have hot water heat. The boiler's pilot light would not stay lit. Therefore, no heat. The technician was prompt. He was able to determine that the thermocouple was not working. He replaced it and cleaned the boiler.

Although they were busy, they sent someone out the same day I called (which I really appreciated b/c it was cold!). Jason was the technician that they sent and he did a very thorough job at trying to figure out the problem and was great about explaining things to me so that I'd know what to do if it happened again. Because the furnace restarted without problem (even with a couple dozen stops/starts) he only charged me the travel fee and said it would be just $40 for a follow up visit if the problem recurred. I was very happy with the service!

They came out the same day I called - my furnace had died and it was zero degrees outside and it was a Friday! Another company told me they would have to order some special part and that they wouldn't be able to even come out until the following Tuesday. Jacob bros. were able to fix my furnace that day, and I was very grateful!!

Jacob Bros. was very prompt from my first call to schedule a service contract. The young lady on the phone gave me a quick but informative overview of the cost and services provided. We set a date for the service to start and went from there. On the day of the service my wife welcomed the Tech on time. He quickly demonstrated the problem to her and said that the furnace needed to be replaced. He was unable to give a quote for the work, so a salesman needed to come by. Before leaving the Tech asked for a $79 payment, the cost of a 'service call'. Not really sure a $79 charge for opening a panel and seeing a large crack was deserved, but so be it. On our end, we forgot to print out the angies list coupon. We decided not to go with Jacob Bros. for the furnace replacement based on cost, which was quite a bit higher (almost double) some of the other bids we received. Jacob Bros. was inline with some other quotes we received, but all were much higher than what we settled on.
Description of Work: We originally contacted Jacob Bros. to start a service contract on our HVAC system. Upon arrival the tech. Noted a large crack in the furnace, thereby rendering it DOA in need of replacement.

They keep everything going with my a/c and furnace. I have an old furnace and sometimes the igniter goes out. Since I have a prepaid maintenance with them, they offer me a lower fee for replacing the part. ***Price reflects two annual trips.

Jacob Brothers sent out a serviceman who diagnosed the problems with the system and proposed the most sensible solution with regards to cost. He explained the problem in an understandable way and took care of it. He also suggested a few ways in which we will be able to lower our energy costs.

In daughter's "new" 1890 house, little a/c was being delivered to second floor rooms - too much a/c in several other areas. Jacob Bros. estimator diagnosed problem as improperly sized stack/duct and the need for a couple of dampers. New larger stack/duct, new delivery ducts to rooms with new register boxes and dampers installed in other ductwork has resulted in improved air flow to second floor rooms. Installers were "gentle" to this old house when making the modifications needed for larger stack/duct. Installers also did a very good job with clean up. All work was completed in 3/4 of day. Only downside to the entire process was the length of time need to schedule the actual work.

Friday night our house temperature rose 6 degrees. Saturday morning I verified the circuit breakers were still on and that there were no physical obstructions to the heat pump fan. I called Jacob Brothers at 8:00 a.m. Saturday. An answering service took my information and said a technician would return my call. I received a call about 2 hours later and the technician said he would arrive in the early afternoon and would call again about 15 minutes in advance. He called again at 12:15 and arrived about 15 minutes later. With 20 years of air conditioning experience the technician expected the problem to be the capacitor, which turned out to be the case. The needed part was on his truck and the repair fully accomplished. Since Saturday's high temperature was 90 degrees with the following days expected to be even hotter, the prompt repair was greatly appreciated by my family!! Note: Even though the technician's shoes appeared to be clean, he wore shoe coverings (like used in a hospital) while in our home. The technician was courteous and professional. {I also used the Angie's List coupon.}

Jack came out to provide the estimate. He was professional and courteous and explained the various options. The one thing that I didn't really like was the fact that he was not able to provide a quote on-site, but had to go back to the office to calculate and then schedule a second appointment to present the estimate. This is a pain for someone who has to take time off of work. After review of all the estimates and various brands of equipment I decided to proceed with Jacob Bros. It took approx. 1-1/2 weeks longer for the work to get scheduled than I was originally told. Once scheduled, the installers arrived on-time and were also very professional and courteous. Both Marc and Robert did a great job on the install. They cleaned up after themselves every day and completed the job in two days even though the original estimate was three.
Description of Work: Installation of new central heat and air conditioning system and removal of old systems. Also opted for programmable thermostat and humidifier.

I had Jacob Brothers install a new furnace 3 years ago at which time they told me that my air conditioning unit was rather old and would probably not last too much longer. Due to price constraints, I had them replace the furnace and hold off on the air conditioner. During the yearly check up of my heating/air conditioning system the technician found that the air conditioning was seriously underperforming and inefficient. I asked the tech to have someone call me about replacing the system and later that same afternoon Jack Erb called and came to the house to give me an estimate and 9 days later they had installed the new system (temperatures during this time were in the high 90's, so the fast service was greatly appreciated).

Things went very well, all as expected, customer service was excellent. Job was completed as expected.
Description of Work: Came out to do the annual AC check, Jason was very professional and helpful. Coolant had been low before, he explained our choices and he checked the system for leaks as well as added coolant. He showed me how the leaks were detected and demonstrated for me. The leaks were in the evaporator coils. System was not installed by Jacob Bros, it is a 4 year old house with builder grade HVAC put in by another company. He even called his company to get different price quotes on different types of options we could get. Prices seemed reasonable but in the end we decided to just replace the evaporator coils instead of looking at a new system that we fear we will need in a few years. It was a great experience. We have used them before and we will continue to do so in the future. Seemed very honest, trustworthy, and wonderful customer service, from the first phone call to the end.

He did not have the filters available on his truck, but said he would have someone call back first thing in the morning to let me know his availability. I did not receive a call and so I followed up the next afternoon (Wednesday morning). I was promised another call first thing the following morning (Thursday). Nobody called back with the status of my filter order. It's been four days. Although I left another message this morning, I finally ordered the filter from someone else. Very disappointing, especially for the price of their service visit!
Description of Work: The technician was supposed to service my system, because it kept freezing. He cleaned the coils and filled some Freon (1.75).
