The staff was courteous on the phone, offering several possibilities, i.e. normal rate but ~1-week wait, or "emergency" services, with higher rates but less wait. I opted for the second option, and my A/C was repaired the day after I called. The technician was on time, and efficient. No complaint.

+ -1 moreTechs are good but once you are a regular customer not NEW forget about discount pricing and timely service. I would need to call 3 months in advance to get furnace or AC routine maintenance scheduled. I don't wait for my doctor that long. The receptionist can be curt.

+ -1 moreWe spent around $5,000 for that work. It went well, but the only thing is that if I had to do it again, I probably go with the company we were using. Their pricing was good as far as putting in the units, but the yearly cleaning and service they went to twice as much as everybody else.

+ -1 moreWe called Jacobs out to determine why our carbon monoxide detector when off. After an inspection of our old furnace it was determined that the heat transfer was cracked in several places and was probably the source of the carbon monoxide leak. We had no choice but to get a new furnace.

Description of Work: Directly after completion of this job, I was very disappointed with the work, and actually gave them a sub-par rating on Angie's List. But over the course of the past year I've come to the conclusion that I was too harsh on Jacob Bros. in my original assessment of the job they did on our building. So this posting is actually a revision to my original "C" rating. There was a misunderstanding with the timing of the job that ended up being an inconvenience. Likewise, they did leave many small air leaks in the system. I originally assumed that they had no intention of fixing those leaks. But after dealing with Jack Erb and Gary Jacob over the course of the past year, I feel that I miscalculated their professionalism. After Jack and Gary saw my posting on Angie's list, they called and followed up with me several times, and even came over twice to check on the job and assure me that if there were any further issues, that I could call them any time. Finally, and most importantly, regarding the quality and execution of the work, I completely misjudged their craftsmanship. Recently, a friend of mine who is an HV/AC specialist reviewed the work of Jacob Bros. at our building and he said he was very impressed with the work. He said Jacob Bros. executed a VERY tough job (very tight spaces for furnaces) very well. I told him how much I paid, and he was shocked that I got this job done in that amount of time for such a competitive price (their bid was the lowest of the three that I acquired). So ultimately, a year after the job's completion, I'm coming to the conclusion that I was dead wrong on my original (amateur) assessment of their work. Top quality service and craftsmanship...I would use them again.

+ -1 moreThe worked turned out well. They replaced the solenoid valve, filter and a humidifier once and the second time they replaced the fan engine. They came out very promptly and they had the parts available. They gave me the cost estimate on the spot and charged me what they said they would. I didn't make any comparison to see whether their price was less or more expensive than others. They were prompt, friendly and professional. I think they really did a good job.

+ -1 moreMy AC was not cooling, and I had them come out to figure out why. A component that had just been replaced in November had gone bad again. The blower motor was basically overheating and shutting down. On this service call, they replaced the part for free, as it shouldn't have gone bad that soon. It was also discovered that there were electrical burn marks on a connector to the furnace. The serviceman arranged for someone to come out and give an estimate on new systems for both 2 days later. Two weeks after that, my new units were installed. They were wonderful about installing the unit which included doing some new ductwork, they cleaned up everything after the job was done and I was given all the information and shown how to operate the new thermostat, change the filters, etc. A month later, they had a quality control visit to ensure that all had been done correctly, was working correctly and also gave me time to ask any questions that may have come up since the units had been installed.
Description of Work: Complete replacement of furnace and air-conditioning units.

They kind of fixed something whereas the other person wanted me to buy a whole new compressor, so they saved me some money. I just have a feeling that they are kind of more honest.

+ -1 moreJacob Brothers took over the maintenance contract, from a previous company that we ran into some issues with. I have been happy with Jacob Brothers. They come out twice a year, once in the spring to check the air conditioner and once in the fall for the heater. I compared the prices and they were not the cheapest, but I think that the quality of the work that they provide is worth it. When I first called them out I also had an Angie's List coupon, which was nice. They have been very responsive. I called them for a problem that I was having, and they told me that the waiting list was out about a month and a half. They called me about a week and a half later to come out and do the work. They do not give a specific time for them to come out. They pretty much say would it be better for us to come out before noon or after noon? I have been with them for about two years.

+ -1 moreThey came out and gave us an estimate and stayed within their estimate. They went over and beyond what they had to do. Our old air-conditioning unit was not working at all and it was getting hot. They told us that it would take a week for them to install the new unit so meanwhile they sent out a technician to replace the blower in my old furnace so that I could have air-conditioning and they didn?t charge me for the part. They were very good. They also cleaned up the remains of the old unit.
Description of Work: We bought a new furnace and air-conditioning unit from them that they also installed for us.

+ -1 moreI typically do not run the air conditioner in May out of principle, but was expecting house guests Memorial Day week and wanted to make sure they would be comfortable if the temperature went up. Since the unit had not been serviced in several years, and not wishing to test Murphy's Law, I made a last minute decision to have it checked on Friday, May 22. Phoned Jacob Bros in the morning and they had someone out here the same afternoon. The technician came in, took readings before he serviced the outside unit, used shoe covers when he came back inside, and retested to show the improved efficiency of the system. The detailed invoice included test results and the charge was the price quoted on the phone (which included tax). With the Angie's List discount, the total bill was $69. The weather got hot, my company stayed cool and Jacob Brothers did a great job.

+ -1 moreI looked for an "Angies List" heating and AC repair that met my criteria. We called for an appointment and they said they could come out the same day. They gave us an arrival time window and made it within that time. The repairman, John, wore protective booties over his shoes. He was polite and professional with my Mother-in-Law. He confirmed what we suspected; we needed additional coolant added to the system. He added it and explained that if it needed recharging again soon, that the company would have to check for and repair any leaks. There was a $25 Angies coupon available. Jacob Brothers also has a "senior discount" but you cannot use both together. Even with the discount Jacob Brothers is not cheap; but you get what you pay for, and a cheaper outfit might try to charge us for unecessary parts or service. Unless or until I ever "smell a rat" in my system, I'll call Jacob Brothers for any future service I need!

Their office called when technician was within a half hour of arrival. The technician (Jason) was professional and efficient. He answered all our questions and fixed our problem in short order. At our request, he provided further information on replacing our system. We will definitely contact Jacob Bros. again.
Description of Work: Our air conditioning system was operating inefficiently. It was running a long time to cool our two stroy home. The Jacob Brothers' technician checked the system, cleaned condenser coils, and added freon.

When the AC system wouldn't start at the beginning of the season, Jacob Brothers repairman explained that the system had several issues and fixing it would likely be throwing good money after bad. We got 3 quotes to replace the system. Jacob Brothers took the time to understand our needs and did a load calculation to ensure the correct sized unit. The made an error on the initial estimate so they gave us a free 1 year service agreement as make-good. The price was good ($500 to $1000 less than the other two quotes). System was installed in less than a day, with the work site left very clean. System is running and working very well.
