My furnace went out during this recent cold spell and finally I decided to buy a new furnace instead of trying to fix my old one. I picked 3 different companies to contact so I could make sure I was getting a good deal. I picked Jacob Brothers as 1 of those 3 companies because they are near where I live and were highly reviewed on Angies List. Let me just say Jacob Brothers may be a good company but their salesman Mark Wilson was a very poor representative for their company with how he conducted himself when he came to my home. Mark Rubbed me the wrong way from the moment he showed up at my house. I requested service through Angies List for the $500 off coupon and was contacted within the next 2-3 hours. When Mark called me to schedule a service time he said he could make it in the afternoon and I told him to call first because I had another HVAC company coming over to give me a quote and I didn't want them there at the same time. Instead of calling back and and scheduling a time he just showed up at my house while the other HVAC company was inspecting my home. I thought this was extremely rude and unprofessional. After I finished speaking with the 1st guy I went down to speak to Mark. Mark did a lot of little things that really bothered me. He repeatedly talked down about the competition. He kept telling me how Jacob Brothers was different from other companies because of how much time they spend doing their installations and that they didn't just want to replace my furnace they would want to redo all the venting to and from my furnace. He said doesn't that sound great and I said sure it sounds nice but you haven't told me a price yet so I'm not going to get excited until I do. I told him he should probably give me a separate quote to just install the furnace without redoing the vents in my basement but he didn't want to. .When we finally got to talking about numbers Jacobs was the most expensive of the 3 by a few hundred dollars. This wouldn't have bothered me because they were offering to additional work but he had already given me $800 in coupons. None of the other companies bothered with gimmicky coupons,they just gave me their best price the first time like an honest business should. When i told him they were the highest I had been quoted of all the companies he told me for the value of the work I was receiving I shouldn't be trying to "pinch pennies". He repeatedly reminded me of their high Angies list score at least 10 times, it was absurd. He also kept rubbing his hands in front of me repeatedly like somehow I had failed to notice it was cold in my own house. After he gave me a price I told him I would need to compare all of the information and speak to my wife before I made my decision and he kept asking me what else I needed to know to get their business. He told me because of the below zero temperatures he considered my situation an emergency and I needed to make my decision right away so he could schedule my service as soon as possible. At this point I just wanted this guy out of my house, he didn't want to take no for an answer and tried every cliche sales tactic I've ever heard of, he even went as far as to ask me what I did for a living and and make a ridiculous comparison between my work and theirs. Mark did try to contact me the next day and offered to throw in a humidifier to make their price more competitive but it was too little too late. I was so irritated by his pushy sales tactics I don't think I would have used Jacobs no matter what price they offered me.

They were very good. The price was pretty high. They ended up installing a water softener for $2200. I would call them again.

The service went well. I did pay a small additional fee to have a part replaced. One technician came out and completed the job in about an hour and a half. He was courteous and clean. I had no problem scheduling the service.

They came in, looked at what I needed and gave me an estimate. They were very personable. They didn’t try to push anything on me or oversell anything. They just let me know what was available and gave me a good price. I wasn’t home when they came in and I just gave them the key. They did an amazing job. They left my place cleaner than it was before they came. It was just immaculate. I got a brand new furnace. Everything is working out very well.

On 12/24/2013 backup in shower just as slow drain started on 12/19/2013. Had to have an EMERGENCY CALL WITH A house full of COMPANY. WE HAD WATER DAMAGE IN OUR LOWER LIVING AREA NOT A BASEMENT. FROM WHAT WE WERE TOLD SINCE NO CAMERA WAS USED THERE WAS NO WAY TO SEE WHERE THE CLOG WENT. Did it GO TO THE MAIN SEWER NEAR THE END OF OUR DRIVEWAY???? THE CAMERA on Original Exam day 5 days before 12/19/2013, FIRST VISIT WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSEIT CORRECTLY IS OUR FEELING WE WERE NOT GIVEN THE COMPLETE STORY. PREVENITIVE MAINTAINCE IS WHAT WE WERE ARE taking care of to prevent JUST THIS SITUATION. ENDED UP COSTING US MORE THAT EXPECTED. OUR INSURANCE CO. A HUGE AMT. OUR HOLIDAY THE STRESS AND BURDEN IT PUT ON US WAS NOT NECESSARY. CARPET REPLACEMENTS, DRYWALL HEATERS TO DRY OUT. BUT, DO REALIZE GLAD WE WERE HOME OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH WORSE. MY TIME AND INCONVENIENCE IS DEFINETLY WORTH MOORE Than dollars and cents. WHEN you are have your drains checked for being a little slow in. IN MY OPINION ITS A WASTE OF TIME WITH OUT THE CAMERA TO SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE OTHER END. NO ONE HAS X-RAY VISION TO SEE ON THE OTHER END. THANKS

I had been a customer of Jacob Brothers for over 25 years and always trusted their work. When my fan motor went out on my A/C, I investigated doing the work myself and researched the cost of motors. I decided to have the Jacob Bros tech take a look at it and give me a price. When he called around to get the motor, I was floored at the estimate. He did wind up convincing me that there may be issues with some of the hookup so I let him proceed and he did find a part somewhat cheaper than originally quoted. When completed, I checked the part numbers and manufacturer with what I had found and determined that the motor that I was going to buy (for under $100) was the identical motor that was installed to every spec and the picture was the exact model. The difference being they charged $510 (discounted) for just the motor. Needless to say I was shocked although not toally surprised that the industry worked this way. My greatest disappointment though was that I sent a letter to the owner asking about the situation and never even received an acknowledgement. I only was asking for clarification of the situation and not a refund. After all the years of superior treatment by them I was very suprised and dismayed. Unfortunatley, I think I have come to the realization that some industries are structured this way (a bit of smoke and mirrors) and while they all need to make a profit to survive, this seemed to me to be overboard. Having said that, I have seen worse from companies (other than Jacob Bros) that use a "pre determined" pricing structure that takes the various work into categories and prices it out seemingly without regard to the actual work. They claim this simplifies the process for the customer. I would say it almost always results in being overcharged. I will say that over the years, the techs from Jacob Bros who worked on my systems always spoke highly of their company and it seemed they stuck with them a long time as i would get the same service people for years at a time.

Came same day as called. Called ahead when coming and arrived promptly. Were polite, respectful & knowledgeable. Discussed potential issues and listened to my input. Made suggestions but did not do any hard sell. Made necessary repairs for a reasonable price.
Description of Work: Advised on required servicing for boiler. Drained expansion tank, disassembled connecting line & replaced damaged/blocked parts. Refilled boiler.

Originally I was quite frustrated. I bought the deal and then called to schedule the appointment. I was told I would have to wait until sometime in January to do the furnace tune-up. By that point, cold weather would be almost half over! Before I had a chance to get a refund on the deal though, the next day they called and said they could be out there that day (or the next..I don't remember). So, in the end it worked out. Would encourage anyone to call and see what scheduling would be like prior to making any financial commitments. Other than that issue, the work was done to our satisfaction.

Our technician responded to a no cooling call after hours and found a defective control board. He was able to rewire the furnace so the system would operate so she would have cooling. He was there an hour and only charged her a trip charge. We did provide a quote to replace a defective control board. We are flat rate and the cost includes the part and the labor to replace it. She did not authorize us to replace it. Afterwards she called and said we broke a piece of 3/4" PVC condensate pipe. Our service technician did not know that anything was broken when he left. We gave her a credit for the cost of the 3/4" PVC repair. If you have any other concerns please contact me Gary A. Jacob at 513-533-3600.

After I decided to purchase a new furnace, the salesman came out and I signed a contract. The serviceman reconnected the old furnace until the new one could be installed 2 days later. That evening and the next day, I smelled an odor. The salesman called and I told him about the odor and he said that it was okay as I had heat. The next morning we awoke with a headache and a feeling of wooziness. The servicemen arrived to install the new furnace and they immediately were overwhelmed by the odor. I called the salesman. Jack Erb. He came about an hour later with the owner, Mr. Jacobs and another man who had a meter. They said that the meter showed that carbon monoxide readings were within the normal range. We called the Fire Dept. For a second opinion. They came and immediately said to open the windows as their meter read much higher and said carbon monoxide was at a dangerous level. Jacobs Bros. Did not apologize or admit that possibly their serviceman had unintentionally rehooked the old furnace wrong and caused the fumes. The whole experience left us feeling that Jacobs Bros. were not being truthful and were not concerned at all that we were left in a life threatening situation.
Description of Work: Initially, I phoned them to check my furnace as it wasn't heating properly. After the serviceman determined the problem, the inducer was bad, I decided, on his advise, to buy a new furnace. Mine was 18 yrs. old.

Service window was to be "after twelve". At 445 or so they called to ask if another day would work. I said no and they were there within half hour to forty five minutes. Other than that, a great value.
