Description of Work: After the heavy snowfalls this winter we had an issue with ice damming of the gutters. I had mutliple roofing contractors out to visit to provide some options on fixing the issue. Ray St. Clair showed up on time and was professional. However, after doing some independent research, I found they proposed some temporary solutions that didn't get to the heart of the issue. I was satisfied with the interaction but not with their level of knowledge on ice damming.

Description of Work: Had someone out to give me an estimate back on June 26, 2013; and was told still had about 5 years left on it...that's the only good thing. Was informed I should add 3-4 box vents, and also asked for an estimate to include gutter replacements. Was told I would receive the quote via e-mail.... Fast forward to July 5, I called and left a message for an update on the estimate. Fast forward again to July 9, 2013, and I receive a quote for everything including removal of old shingles, installation of a ridge vent, not box vents as was suggested; and replacement gutters and new shingles. With my quick response I sent back alerting of the difference, I was informed to expect a new quote. It is now July 16, 2013; and guess what? Haven't seen any email nor have I even received a phone call. Sure hope I hear something soon though!

Description of Work: Our house is 25 years old and had the original gutters and downspouts. Leaves continued to clog the gutters even with the mesh inserts we had added to the gutters about 8 years ago. I called Ray St. Clair because they were the local distributor of the gutter helmet system and because they got good reviews on Angie's List. They were very prompt, very professional, and great to work with. The gentleman who came out to give me the estimate climbed up on my roof and made a thorough inspection of the gutters, and even cleaned out the clogged areas. The other company that came out to bid the job never went up on the roof at all and proposed the exact same mesh system I already had (that wasn't working). I live in an area with a lot of mature trees and the leaves easily clog the mesh. The gutter helmet system with the larger downspouts is the answer. I am delighted and would highly recommend Ray St Clair. Everyone was super nice..

Description of Work: I called for an estimate for gutters and roof replacement. The first estimator only gave me an estimate for the gutters. I had to wait for another 2 weeks for the estimate on the roof. The estimate was quite a bit higher than the other 3 quotes that I received and in addition included items I did not ask for and seemed unnecessary. When I called to get answers on why the difference no one was available to answer. As a result I did not use this company.

Description of Work: I had received two other quotes for a new roof when I called Ray St. Claire Roofing. The service man was on time for the inspection however to my astonishment he stated I did not need a new roof. He said I had 5-10 years remaining. While the other two insisted I needed a new roof at an approximate cost of $15,000 Ray St. Claire provided an honest assessment of my roof and saved me, or at least postponed, a very large investment. They will get me business when I do have to buy.

Description of Work: We were selling our house and as part of the deal agreed to replace an attic exhaust fan (originally installed by Ray St. Clair) which had failed. I called Ray St.Clair in June and asked for a quote to repair or replace the failed fan. They told me that the earliest they could get someone to the house to give me an estimate was in about 10 days. I explained that I needed the work done in connection with a sale of the house, so there was some urgency to the timing. The person I talked to told me not to worry because, once they were at the house, they could schedule to have the work done in a matter of a few days. Then the problems started. First, the person did not show up on time to give the estimate. Then, after several days of waiting, I had to call to see what the status was of the estimate. It took another few days to finally get it. Once I got it, they told me that they could not schedule the work to be done for at least two weeks - which was only a few days before our scheduled closing. I reminded them that they had committed to me that it could be done in a few days and that I needed the work done to close on the sale of my house. They told me not to worry that the person would get it done in time. On the day they were supposed to do the work, someone showed up (again significantly late), but informed us that he could not do the work that day because it was a two-person job and no one had told him that. I called to complain and got only a moderately concerned response. The two people needed to do the job finally did show up and do it in time for our closing, but I had no confidence it would happen until they actually were there and did the work. I felt like Ray St. Clair was unreliable and unresponsive. On top of that, I felt like they were very expensive after I got the quote, but I did not want to take a chance trying to switch to someone else because of the impending closing date. I will never use Ray St. Clair again.

Description of Work: 1890 box gutters leaking for years. We hired Ray St. Clair because they are both residential and commercial. They will take on a tough job while others refused to even quote the job. We will hire them again. 1. replace box gutters with modern gutters. The old hand built box gutters required removal with a modern gutter "look alike" installed. The biggest barrier was once the box gutter was removed, a 2x12 beam stuck out of the masonry about 2 feet. So the large beam needed to be sawed off in line with the masonry wall. Most gutter and roofer contractors will not handle a heavy saw 3 stories up on scaffolding. Ray St. Clair did an excellent job of removing the old box gutter and support beam. Then installed a wood board to be flat with the house masonry connected to the house's 2x12 beams. Then they could install the modern gutter onto this newly installed board. The gutter job was done quickly and professionally once they started the project. We had them do one straight sides of our house. They installed new down spouts and added a few additional down spouts. The workmen were professional, clear at explaining and offering solutions, options. They were careful of the gardens and cleaned up daily. They follow the scope of work closely. Additional work beyond the scope is about $70/hour for two workmen. The total for one finished gutter on the north side of our 1890s mansion was about $6,000. 2. rebuilding a 3rd floor balcony 4ft x 5ft. $6,000 estimate, final cost $8,000. They replaced old wood shingles, removed and replaced the floor boards, reinforced the banister, put in new flashing and a metal floor, rebuilt limited support wood, and repaired the masonry with tuck pointing (supports the porch).

They said they would call back to reschedule but never did. I went with Bone Dry (Angies List) who responded quickly and professionally.

Description of Work: Got quote for insulation to be added to attic. Their quote said I needed to enlarge the access hole to the attic before they do the work. Both of the other top rated insulation companies in Cincinnati said the hole did not need to be enlarged and both of these companies quoted 1/2 of the cost of Ray St. Clair. Very hard to understand. Today I used one of the other companies - the work went fine and the cost was 1/2 of Ray St Clair.

Description of Work: Called for the leaking. They said the average waiting time was 5 business days. After 5 business days, nothing happened. So, I called back to ask. They said the estimator will be there anytime. The guy came to my house without notice in the second day. Fortunately my wife was at home, but she knew nothing about the roof. So, I called back to ask what s going on. I called several times and left two messages. But the guy never returned my call. I did receive the proposal from his company, but I doubted the leaking is related to what they have repaired for me in 2005. After trying 3 to 4 days, I finally caught him on the phone. He said the warranty was only for one year, but he was going to check the record and give me the answer. Now two weeks passed and I haven t received any information from him yet. The estimation is $240 for two places to seal and one place to nail down. It s too much. I had a very good experience with them two years ago and I gave A at that time.
