Ray St Clair Roofing

I called Ray St. Clair, as I had used them before and was familiar with the high quality of their work, and stated that I had a piece of hanging siding that I needed to be fixed. I said that it was not an emergency but if they happened to be in the neighborhood that it would be great if they could fix. A few days later I received a call from the repairman at my house asking where the problem was and I told him. He called me back 20 minutes later, stated that it was fixed and while he was up there he reattached a couple of other things - his job was complete. I was happy and said thank you. A few weeks later I received the bill and was stunned to see it was for $160. For the amount of time they were at my house I expected something significantly less so I called to complain. I was told that there was a minimum fee of $150 for any service call and I responded that no one told me that when I called. I was then told that they tell everyone that when someone calls. I stated I was not told and this back and forth went on for a few minutes. I went on to state that I believe that you plan to tell everyone that, but no one actually told me that when I called. So I got passed along to a manager and re-explained my entire story and was told that they have been busy, there is always a minimum fee, everyone is told that and that I am the only person who is calling to complain to them about anything - everyone else is happy, you should be too. I politely continued the dialog restating my experience and am told he needs to talk to his boss and they will call me back. I get a call back later that same day and they agreed to split the difference. It turns out that the boss to whom he went to speak was the person who took my original call. He remembered he did not tell me about the $150 minimum fee. :0) My rating reflects the entirety of the situation but they almost lost my future business because they wouldn't listen and we're getting really arrogant about them being right. Kudos to the "boss".

They were polite, knowledgeable, and responsive.

They did a repair in the past that was very thorough. We had squirrels and raccoons in the attic and they repaired it with metal so they couldn't get back in.

We paid for them to come out 3 times to fix this. They were not sure what the problem was. First it was the shingles, then it was a window problem. They didn't charge us to come out, but they did charge when they replaced the shingles, flashing and did some window work. It is still not completely fixed to this day. We would work with them again if they could fix our problem.

They've been great! The guy came out pretty quickly to get the estimate done, and really knew what he was doing.

They did a pretty good job. I was pleased with the speed and the quality of the work so far. I found a couple problems and I called them back and they came back right away and took care of the problem. I did find a couple other relatively minor problems that I need to call them on yet. I do have a pretty complicated roof that requires a number of separate drains for small areas. But, in general I am pleased with the work that they did.

The sales process was excellent, and I felt that we would get more value and attention to detail than other bidders, the salespeople did a great job and assured us that details would be followed up on. The work was performed (during very cold and icy weather), and did not meet or exceed my expectations. Everything works fine, but the attention to detail is apparent. I am disappointed, and would not recommend this company.

They were prompt and showed up on time. They showed pictures of what was wrong and did a good job explaining what needed to be done.

The oral quote and written were not alike. Verbally, they said they would put siding on the gables and put on shingles. We had them back three times to try to get a discount from them, but it was a no go. So if you use this company be sure to get everything in writing and check it good. The work itself is okay, but not their work ethic.

What I liked about them is that they contacted our builder to have them come out and correct something they noticed that the builder did not do right. They take photographs to show you exactly what's wrong before giving a bid, so you have assurance that what they say is wrong is wrong.

I called for a bid. They gave me information about the procedure and the product. We scheduled a day. They came on time. It took about 3 hours. It was painless.

It went excellent. I like that they came here to do their job and they stayed on task. Every day when they were done with work they would clean everything up. Any supplies left would be neatly stacked and covered. They were good about time management. They never bothered us when doing the work. They worked around out schedules. They were very concerned about make it hard on us so they talked with us about our daily routines and when it would be best to do the work. They have a excellent follow up process.

Work was performed to my expectations.

Willing to come out and prepare an estimate without my having to be present. Estimate arrived a couple days later. Work was completed several days after approval. Quality work.

They were prompt and cleaned up after themselves. It took a couple days to do. A separate appointment was set to do a quality check.

The foreman was very pleasant, personable and enthusiastic about his work.

All of the other companies wanted to go vinyl, they are the only company that would do aluminum, they was very personal and the guy also assisted in putting my squirrel house together. They also fixed the place on the chimney where the squirrels had chewed through the roofing and they fixed that too. I had excellent results with them, they did the job they were asked to do. My roof has not leaked since then. I have been pleased with both jobs with this company.

They were great! Couldn't have been better! They're prompt, courteous and very knowledgeable.

They arrived on time. We had a minor problem with the gutter coloring, but the company took care of it. They were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves. They were polite. We had some minor leaks at the gutter seams, but they came out right away and fixed them.

They did not respond well to phone calls. I cannot tell you how many times I called. After I told them not to come they came when we were not home and left an estimate for an unneeded repair.

It went fine. They came when they said they would. They were very professional. I had no problems with them. They were very trusting of people. They will send the bill later which seems a little old fashioned.

The job was started in February and finally corrected and completed in May. We needed new gutters with leaf protection for our home due to the amount of trees and the slope of our lot prevented us from cleaning the gutters easily. New down spouts were installed and connected to our underground drainage to help prevent erosion that has also been a problem. Keith, the sales rep was very helpful in deciding what to use with our present lot conditions. After interviewing 2 other companies, we decided on Ray St Clair because the sales man was very in tune with our needs. The quote was quite a bit above the other companies, but with the company having a long standing reputation in the community and a good report from Angie's List we thought paying the premium price would net us a premium job. That was not to be. The installers showed up initially with the wrong color gutters. Glad I was home to stop them from installing them. Next they came on a Thursday, with heavy rain predicted for the weekend, they proceeded to remove all the old gutters from the house. At the end of that day, they said they would not be able to return until Monday. Hey, we were doing this job to prevent the ground around the house from being saturated! Sure enough it rained heavily and it caused problems. The installers returned on Monday as stated and proceeded to install the new gutters. It was not finished that day, but the next day. So, that meant twice I had to go out and clear trash from my shrubs and yard where they had thrown things. The installation was inspected by the company's quality control and found to be installed wrong. Plus they cut and unsightly hole in the new deck in which to route the downspout.The inspector was not happy with the work, nor were we. The installation crew came out again to rehang the gutters to the correct pitch. Quality control reinspected. We were still unhappy with the hole in the deck, so a solution was worked out between us and Ray St Clair that resulted in filling the hole with caulk. Looks like crap, but it works. We waited for our final bill to arrive, all the while the sales person kept saying, "What do we need to do to make this right?" We never asked for anything other than for the gutters to work as promised. When we contracted to have the work done, we signed up for the 12 months with no interest plan. Little did we know that the 12 months started at the contract signing, while the job actually took over 3 months. So our 12 months no interest really came down to under 9 months. Again, this was not our fault. They did eventually reduce the price by $70. The sales staff was very convincing and professional, but there is a complete disconnect between them and the rest of Ray St Clair. I will NEVER use this company again and will NOT recommend anyone I know to use them.

In the end, the quality of the roofing was fine. The painting on the gutter had to be redone twice, and the time it took to do the job was simply unacceptable...nearly 2 full months to complete it. The salesman, and the final inspector, David Noonan, was the only bright star in the bunch. His integrity was obvious. He even came back to do the final inspection himself...and found several items he was not satisfied with. The job foreman was terrible. He told us it would take 7-10 days to complete it. It was actually over 2 months to get a final, passing inspection. Snow/rain was a factor, but Mark Hinson, the foreman, must have promised us 7-8 times that "if we don't get it done this week, we'll work both Saturday and Sunday to get it done. They did not work EVER on a weekend. He would call and tell us he was coming...and not show up. He was pathetic. During the job, we sustained water damage to the ceiling of our garage since the didn't adequately place a tarp on the roof...this after me asking on 2/11, when they started, if they should wait due to the forecast. The answer: No problem...we do this all the time. The result: A section of our garage ceiling was on the hood of my car the next morning. They also snapped off a Japanese Maple while working...they paid for all damages...but simply ridiculous headache to work with.

Overall it was a satisfactory job but I think that the insulation that was blown in looks very wavy and I don't think I got the full amount that I paid for as some spots were higher than others.
