MJ Tree Service, Inc

I called on 10/17/12 and got a guy by the name of Joe. I told him I wanted to make an appointment to have someone come over to give me an estimate to trim my oak tree. I also asked that they call before coming because I wanted to actually talk to him. I don't price shop, necessarily, but rather I like to get a sense of the person I'm dealing with and their knowledge before hiring anyone. He said he would let Mike Johnson know, since he is the one that does the estimates. I also asked when I could expect him to call and he told me about a week. Well it is now 10/31/12 and I'm still waiting for that call. Anyone who can't even return calls or make appointments to do an estimate would not be the person for me. I see from the other comments that this company seems to be known for this and wonder how they get any business. Personally I would never go with anyone that does this.

We were very impressed with the 5 workers who acted professionally in every way on this arduous job. They followed my directions as to the place to stack the firewood. The owner came back at 7 p.m. and asked to be paid in full. We figure that, since it was a young company, the boss wanted to pay his workers immediately. We had no problem with this, although we were surprised at the demand for the same-day paymen in full.

It is so nice and a relief to experience someone who returns phone calls, is punctual and is a professional. Received phone call stating when service would be completed, they arrived on time, completed the job quickly and thoroughly, cleaned all debris and wood chips. I would recommend to all. Price quoted was the price charged and was very reasonable.

They did an excellent job. They were very good and very professional. The price was good; it was competitive and they did a lot of work. I called and they came the next day. They were on time and they were quick. I can’t think of anything that I was unhappy about.

Mike not only beat every competitor in cost but he was a joy to work with. To be honest I really thought we had our contractor and was not interested in another quote. But he was so eager to take the job I had him quote it out. I am so glad I took the extra time. He showed up for the quote and the job when he said he would. His crew were very nice and respectful. The cleanup was fantastic. Other than the removal of the trees and some firewood, it so clean it does not even look like MJ Tree Service was there. And they were fast too, this large job took about six hours from 8 am to 2pm and was completed within a week of getting quote. The crew said, Mike the owner does all the "hard" work and his crew literally raved about him as a boss. When do you ever hear that? Happy workers, safe practices, great price, timely...the best contractor I have worked with on Angie's list yet.

The job went very well overall and the results were excellent.

They showed up to give me an estimate and when I got their price I just said go ahead and do it, I have to go now bye!

Mike arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning, took his time examining the trees on 2.3 acres of property and answered all of our questions. He was thorough and professional and provided us with an estimate that seems reasonable for the amount of work that will be done. Mike was knowledgeable and answered our questions honestly (e.g., in certain instances he could have recommended additional work to be done but indicated that it wasn't necessary for the health of the tree). If we proceed to have the work done, we will definitely consider using M J Tree Service.

Arrived on time and completed the job in about 1.5 hours. They dug up several Spireas by hand to gain access for stump grinding and replaced the Spirea when finished. They took care to not damage surrounding buildings and cars while stump grinding (surrounded the grind location with strategically place plywood barriers). They raked up the yard better then it was when they arrived and they even rescued a Robin's nest with two eggs in one of the trees (hopefully the mother returns). All the grinding location look like they are ready for mulch--nice and cleaned up and raked in--no big mess to deal with as I have seen sometimes. In short they were professional and exceeded every expectation we had. Nice job Mike and crew and thank you for your excellent customer service. Folks if you are reading this it's because you need tree service I highly recommend you give Mike a call--you will be glad you did.

Arrived on time with his crew. Did the job and cleaned up the area afterwards. Reasonably priced. I would recommend them to anyone.

I called to get a quote on removing an evergreen from our front yard. I had to call twice but Mike responded immediately after my second call. He stopped by that morning, gave me a quote over the phone and stated he could do the job right then. His price was very reasonable so I told him to go ahead. Tree was removed, yard cleaned up without a trace by the time I got home that afternoon. Excellent service.

I've lived on this large wooded lot for over 12 years. Every couple years, there's always some dead trees or other problems requiring tree services. I have used four different services in years past, always have been disappointed, never called any of them back. Mike and Crew are the first that I would gladly use again! Great job at a reasonable price.

Mike came out on a Sunday morning and quickly gave me a quote. Mike's quote was far below (up to $800) any other quote and unless he had great reviews on Angie's List, I would have thought he were too good to be true. Mike arrived on time to do the job and he and his crew were very professional. They cut down the bushes, ground the roots, and cleaned up the yard. The final price was exactly as quoted except for a few extra bucks (literally) for an additional small bush I wanted out of my front flower bed. I highly recommend Mike and would certainly use him again!

Was very Pleased Mike and the crew of two did a very good job in a short amount of time. Had called other tree services , got bids but they never showed up to perform work. Next door neighbor created a mess and quit . Had hung up tree and piles of brush and prickers piled in my yard. M.J. Tree solved our problem..

Prompt response to request for estimate. Price was reasonable. Very professional first impression. Mike was very considerate of potential property damages by heavy equipment and elected to do the project manually to avoid the chance of breaking the concrete with heavy equipment. This created more work due to the backyard location of the trees. They arrived as scheduled and immediately got to work. No cell phones, no smoke breaks, just work. Mike was the climber. He was very efficient and considerate to the workers below while removing the limbs and eventually the trunk piece by piece. Each tree was approximately 100 ft. tall. They started at 9am and were done by lunch. The immediate area and other property were thoroughly cleaned of all debris and wood chips. All branches and trunk were manually carried to the front for chipping and loading on a crane truck. Even the neighbors were impressed!!

I had inherited this home from my mom, who passed away last year. She had been told for years that she ought to have the massive swamp oak cut down, because it was way too close to the house and the roots were starting to grow into the drainage system as well as beginning to crack the basement walls. It was a beautiful tree, but it simply had to be cut down - in fact the city inspector had cited the tree as a point-of-sale violation once my husband and I put the house on the market. We had originally gotten estimates from MJ Tree Company and other companies in March 2011. MJ Tree Service was great about coming out promptly for an estimate, but we ended up (at first) choosing a different tree service due to a much lower estimate. However, the other tree company kept putting us off for months and as of July, they still hadn't done the work and couldn't promise that they'd get it done before August. By then we had a buyer for the house and we needed to get that tree down ASAP. We ended our contract with the original tree company and went back to the drawing board, seeing if anybody could fit us into their schedule. We called MJ Tree Services again, and Mike was really great about working us into his schedule and quickly sending us a contract. (We now wish we'd used his services back in March instead of going with the lowest bidder). Mike and his crew arrived promptly the morning of July 26 as scheduled. They got right to work, and it was obvious that they are experts at what they do. They started by putting multiple layers of plywood on the driveway to protect the concrete from the heavy crane truck, which needed to be parked in that location in order for the crane to reach the tree. It also was obvious that this was going to be a very serious and potentially hazardous job for the crew, due to the height of the tree and the fact that it had to come down piecemeal. This tree was definitely over 100 years old and perhaps 100 feet tall and presented such a challenge that allegedly other tree companies had heard about it and felt that it would be a beast to remove. We're happy to report that MJ Tree Services got the entire tree down safely - piece after heavy piece of trunk and branches were expertly and carefully cut, craned over the roof, and guided down into the front yard. After being set down, they were further processed into smaller sections and loaded into a truck. It was a well-coordinated operation which took hours to complete. Mike and crew cleaned up everything perfectly once the job was done. They also used a leaf blower to clean off very small debris from the roof, and left it in perfect condition. You would never know they'd even been there, except for the fact that the tree was now gone. We would definitely hire MJ Tree services for any future work, and highly recommend them. Even though they didn't have the very lowest rates in town, the degree of service and professionalism was such that I think they deserve an "A" rating on price anyway. We definitely got our money's worth Thanks for a job very well and safely done, MJ!!

Mike worked around my work schedule and the weather. The crew showed up on time and impressive equipment was brought in. The tree was taken down piece by piece, thereby avoiding any damage to the windows or power lines. The soil was soft as a result of excessive rain, but no damage was done to the grass. This was a very difficult job. Obviously, they have the experience to do this safely. Another (small) tree was removed at no cost and a few more stumps were removed for $50.

Fantastic! Called at 9:15 am and they were there at 10:00 am! Five guys worked to remove and clean up the debris. They power-blowed the yard and driveway after the tree was removed! NO mess at all. Great response. Had them remove 2 more small pines that were dead. Would refer them again and use them again.

Response was timely. Pricing was fair. Mike did the in-the-air tree work. He and his crew performed very well - - it was an education and a joy to watch. They had to do the tree work without bucket-trucks due to the tight clearances with the side yards. Would recommend them for work. We will be calling him for future tree work.

Called for an estimate on service for our trees and were told they would be out to look, but were never called back for a quote or and update. It's been over a month now and I would at least expect a return call to let us know when to expect them.

Mike came out a day after we called for an estimate. He provided a quote on the spot and an estimated time when they would do the work. He got back to us in about a week with a day they could come out. The work was done quickly, professionally, and they did a great job cleaning up the yard. We are very happy with the work they did and will definitely use them in the future.

Great experience! They showed up on time, were friendly and professional and cleaned up the yard impeccably. They even took the wood we were keeping to the backyard for me. They provided true service in a day when that's rare and didn't act like they were doing us a favor. Thanks, guys!

Excellent job! They were here right away and had the job completed quickly. They cleaned up my neighbor's yard well, as some branches fell there during the process. And Mike is a nice guy as well.

Mike came out to give me an estimate on the work I wanted done the day I called him. He was prompt, courteous, and knowledgable about his profession. Today, when the services were preformed, he and his team did exactly what I wanted done. The team was very professional and did a great job cleaning up as well! I would use his company again without question and would highly recommend him.

Prompt and courteous at an extremely reasonable price. Mike returned my call the same day and called me back the next day with a quote. Without hestitation he came out again the following day and met with me when I had questions. He was very professional. I hired him that evening and his team came out the very next day. He also included some trimming on a tree overhanging the deck. At the end of the day the only signs of MJ where ground stumps (as expected). They cleaned up everything and exceeded my expectations, even the neighbors were impressed. I would not hesitate to call Mike again or recommend him to friends/family.
