Called MJ Tree Service and requested an estimate for tree removal and stump grinding. Mike Johnson responded quickly, came out to inspect the tree, provided an estimate, and scheduled the work. Mike and crew arrived promptly and did an excellent quality job. All employees were very professional and cleanup was better than expected. I called for an estimate on Monday morning, I received the estimate by phone at about 8pm the same day. I called back the next morning and my tree was scheduled to be removed in the afternoon. At 1130 am I noticed two large tree trimming trucks in my front yard. Like a well coached team, four employees exited the trucks and began work. A large crane was used to assist the men as they cut down the tree in a very short period of time. The team had the tree down and the entire yard cleaned up within 90 minutes. Minus the tree, it looked like the crew was never there, nothing else was disturbed or left behind to indicate work had been done in my yard. The owner of the company came to my door and advised he would return to grind the stump. On Friday, true to his word, he arrived and ground my stump down per my specific request. I strongly recommend MJ Tree Service to anyone who wants a fair price for excellent service. I will use their service again and recommend them to my family and friends.

This is actually the second review I have written for MJ Tree Service, the third time we have used their services. We have a wooded lot, 5 trees were in bad shape and we were worried that they would fall and damage something with winter storms coming. We called Mike again because we had such good experiences in the past and were not disappointed this time. Some of the trees were in very difficult areas to get to because we have a creek that runs through our back yard. There were also a couple that were close to a fence and were potential problems. All of the trees were taken down with no problems plus some branches that were hanging over the roof. By the time I came home from work the yard was cleaned up and you never would have known the trees had been taken down that day except for the stumps. They came back on another mutually agreed on day to grind the stumps down. We couldn't be happier with M.J. Tree Service.

We have had him cut down several trees at different times and he was punctual and did a very good job. We have been very pleased with his service.

The crew arrived promptly at the 8:00 am, they cut down the trees, cleaned up, and ground the stumps all the same day. Mike and his crew did a great job. I would not hesitate to use MJ Tree service again!

We have a one acre lot that had at least 50 trees. Mike Johnson did a wonderful job of removing 80 foot maple and tulip trees that were very close to the house, and the large branches hung over the roof. A large tri-axle crane was employed to lift trees over our house. Many sheets of 3/4" plywood was laid down wherever heavy equipment was used. Mike is the most professional contractor we have ever used.The tree removals took 4 long days of very labor intensive work by all of his crew. Mike also removed 2 large brush piles that fell during the late October snow storm. Mike and his hard working crew were on the job every day at 0800, and worked none stop. Our property was thoroughly cleaned of all debris. We would not hesitate to hire MJ Tree Service in the future and would recommend them to our friends and neighbors. The cost may seem a little high, but worth every dollar, and we feel it was the best money we ever spent. We give MJ Tree service a AAA rating.

I called to get an estimate. The person who answered asked what I needed. I explained my tree problem and asked to have an estimate. She said something like "we don't do it that way". Then took my name address and phone number. That's the last I heard from them.

When I called MJ Tree Service the morning of the storm the owner actually answered the phone himself! I explained what we needed and they came by within an hour and gave an estimate. They were at our home early the next morning and took care of everything very professionally. We were very impressed by how quickly they scheduled the work because so many people had damage in the area. When they were done they cleaned up the debris and you wouldn't even know the yard had looked like a war zone before they came.

The job was completed the next morning by MJ TREE SERVICE. and their crew did an excellent job with the way they went about accessing their boom crane and equipment onto the property so as to not damage the Lawn or Home. Large sheets of plywood were laid down on the lawn so as to distribute the weight of the Boom Crane. The smaller scrub trees that were blocking the access of the crane were then removed. The large Elm tree trunk that was leaning against the home was then secured and removed safely from the side yard where it had rotted. Before removing the large tree, Mike, the Owner of JM Tree Service, did suggest to our tenants family members to briefly step outside the home for their protection and safety while his crew removed this huge tree trunk. My wife was impressed that they took the time to ensure the safety of this family during the dangerous part of this job. Once the job was finished, the entire crew collected all debris and cleaned up the area. We and our tenant's family are very thankful to JM Tree Service for their efforts to clean up after they were finished. We WOULD RECOMMEND this Company for they seemed very professional, experienced and they did a nice job for us!

We received a quote the same day we called. The following day, as promised, the crew was here to take the tree down. They were professional and polite and cleaned up the backyeard as they went along. This was a big tree and we just wanted them to cut it down and leave the debris in our woods. After the largest part of the tree was down they cut the trunk into pieces that we could move if we want to at a later date. It was amazing to watch because Mike climbed up an adjacent live tree and "jumped" to the dead one so the top could be removed first. The best part of the story is that we don't have to worry about this tree coming down in a storm and hitting our deck or house.

Spoke to Mike on Tuesday morning and he said he would go to my house and check out the job. He called me back that afternoon with the quote. I called Wednesday morning and left a message to go ahead with the project. I also requested a days notice so I could arrange for someone to be home to write the check when he was done. He called late afternoon Wednesday and asked if Thursday was okay. We weren't able to be there Thursday morning, but he said thet we could "settle up" on Friday if no one was home when they finished. Since all contacts were made over the phone, he asked that I mark the tree to be removed so that there were no mistakes. Even though the tree that I identified over the phone didn't leave much room for error. I liked his concern for accuracy. The work was done expeditiously and other than the tree being gone you couldn't tell that they were there. I was amazed at how well they cleaned everything up. This whole process went very smooth.

The experience was excellent. The team arrived on time. They cut down the branches and took them away. In fact, they also racked up all the apples that came down with the limbs, over half a 55 gallon drum. I would agree with the other comments that it took 24-48 hours to get a response. They are worth the wait if you have the time.

Failed to return any of my calls. I left messages with each call, but they never called back. I was just ignored.

Mike lives in the area. Had another larger oak removed from the front yard by mike earlier in the month. I had requested quotes from other tree companies, but MJ Tree had quoted and cut the front tree before they had even arrived to quote. Mike at that time gave me a quote for the backyard trees. I had the the other tree companies come and give me quotes for the backyard trees. MJ Tree was competitive, and could do the job as soon as I called him back. Did a very good job. Even replanted some tomato plants that were moved.

Returned my call for estimate the next day. Came over with crew and trucks in about an 1 hour. Gave me a good estimate. I asked when can you do it? (most tree had not even come to give me an estimate) He said right now! I said OK. Mike and his crew worked all day removing, grinding the stump and cleaning up. Very good job. He lives in the area.

We obtained multiple quotes as we expected the job to be north of two thousand dollars. MJ Tree's price was competitive and seemed to be the best intersection of price and review ratings. After we accepted the bid, Mike was scheduled to arrive a few days later but got rained out. I think he got busy with other jobs, and we had to call him back for a second reschedule. Anyway, a minor hiccup and the weather was really a show stopper the original day we scheduled. He arrived today with his team and was very organized. His team took great care to lay heavy plywood so the large equipment wouldn't damage the yard and a section of the driveway. His guys were all wearing hard hards, eye protection, and when appropriate, hearing protection. My view is that an owner who is sloppy about safety is a red flag and Mike didn't operate that way at all. We wanted to keep one of the tree stumps a bit out of the ground to serve as a base for a bird feeder, and Mike was thoughtful enough to stop and ask my wife for the height before he cut the last section of the tree. The total time on site was ~4.5 hours. Even after Mike and most of his team left, a couple guys remained to air rake the sawdust off our deck and yard. They did a nice job cleaning up everything. I'm expecting more tree work in the next few years and will definitely call Mike again. You can hire him with confidence, he is the real deal.

They were fast and careful with their work. They cleaned up very thoroughly. We would definitely use them again in the future.

Mike and 4 guys showed up 1st thing Friday morning 3/8/2013 and immediately set to work. Mike verified with the neighbor that I had spoken to them about coming through their yard, and once done they laid plywood to protect the lawn from the truck, and moved a large decorative boulder so they could get it into position between the two homes. While Mike worked with the bucket truck to start trimming out branches in the dead tree, one of his other guys climbing the other tree(s) manually to trim out the branches I needed removed. His other 3 guys were on cleanup, taking the fallen branches and limbs and moving them into the chipper. It took about 2 hours to trim up the couple of trees, completely take down the dead tree, grind the stump, remove all the wood, and cleanup. They were super efficient, and their cleanup was impressive. They even blew off the roof, deck, and most of the yard that was affected, leaving it looking better than when they got there. They put my neighbors rock back from where they moved it, and you can hardly tell they had to drive across the lawn at all. The crew was professional and fast, and they did a great job. I will continue to give M.J. Tree Service my business and recommend them to everyone.

I called MJ Tree service on Monday, March 4th to schedule an appointment for a consultation. Its a large job with a huge tree that is way too close to my house. I was also interested in talking to them about other landscaping. We made an appointment for 4pm on March 7th. They never showed up, never called, nothing. Wasted my time. Apparently they don't need anymore business so don't bother calling them. I will let everyone I know about my experience.

MJ Tree Service was great! They came out to look at the job within the timeframe they promised and returned with equipment, again within the timeframe promised. They quickly removed a tree that was going to fall with ease and professional qualty. They removed all the debris and cleaned up afterward. I would be happy to use them again for tree trimming and removal.

Very reasonable rates, they took care of a whole tree that had fallen down. They are very friendly, efficient, and have quick service!

During superstorm Sandy, a 30' pine tree in the back yard of our rental house blew over, and was leaning against the neighbor's house. Since it was close to the power lines, I decided to have a professional remove it, rather than try to do it myself. Based on the reviews on Angie's List, I called Mike at MJ Tree Service on Tuesday night. He said he could stop by the next day to look at the tree and give me an estimate. Since there were so many trees blown down by the storm, I expected it would be several days or weeks before he could actually remove the tree. Mike called me the next afternoon, and quoted me $375 to remove the tree. When I asked how long it would be until he could work on it, he said he could do it right then! I agreed and he did the work the same day. I asked if he needed paid in advance, and he said he would just send me a bill. When I stopped by the next day to check on the work you couldn't tell there had been a tree there - no broken branches or sawdust - it was all cleaned up very nicely. The uprooted stump was still there, but I had not asked for him to grind it down. I was very impressed with the quick response, excellent work, and the fact that he trusted me for payment, and didn't delay the work until I could get there and pay him - which would have been a reasonable request for a contractor. We were pleased enough with his work that we are having him do more work for us at our house.

Mike and his crew were efficient, careful of my other plantings and did a good job cleaning up when they were finished. However, I gave them a B on quality because I did not like the way they pruned off some of the branches. A pruning cut should be made just beyond the bud, up to the branch collar, and at an angle so water runs off. I would hire Mike again but I would be more attentive to the trimming process and maybe show them what I would like from one of my books on pruning.
