Because masonry is not one of the services I need often, I was very glad I had Angie's List to help me find a reliable vendor. I was very pleased that Mark's charges were reasonable and that he did not find other things that "should be done."I would not hesitate to recommend him.
Description of Work: Mark repaired the "grouting" between the bricks on the steps leading to my front door.IThe steps were originally laid by the builder of my home 15 years ago and over time were beginning to deteriorate. Mark was thorough and professional. I asked him to look at the brick steps at the back of my home which go out to the patio. He checked them and said he saw no immediate problems.

I first contacted Mark to do some minor tuckponting on my house. He was willing to come and do this repair the next day, a Saturday. I was so pleased with his work, price, and helpful, pleasant attitude that I asked him for an estimate to do some repairs to my large paver patio, such as powerwashing, repositioning pavers that had shifted, raising areas that had sunk, adding sand to the points, etc. He gave me a reasonable, fair estimate and I had him perform the work. He did the work in a timely and satisfactory manner. The patio looks almost new. Would use him again for any concrete or paver repairs. He is very knowledgeable about what he does.

Mark Monnette responded quickly to our phone message, came to our house to estimate the job, and presented us with clear alternatives. He talked us through the pros and cons of the alternatives and gave very straightforward information about what we could expect with each choice. We followed his advice and chose the less expensive option (repairing our existing porch rather than a complete replacement), which was a pleasant surprise. The work was completed quickly and looks good to us.

He repaired a limestone wall. We got other quotes and his was best. He is a very reliable guy, knows what he is doing, and came when he said he was going to. His business was very efficient. He is also so honest that it makes your teeth hurt. We are very happy with his services.

Mark is thoroughly professional. His advice is very good, and he is willing to do the work that needs to be done, rather than create a larger than necessary -- and more costly job. Mark came out to check our brick sidewalk, part of which had collapsed due to chipmunk tunneling. He advised us to get rid of the chipmunks before he would do the repair so that it would not be wasted by repeat damage. That done, he came out and took up the brick that had collapsed and the adjacent brick and relaid it beautifully. We would use him again without hesitation. Several years ago he was the only contractor who was willing to repoint our chimney where it needed work, rather than to repoint the whole thing -- which would have cost considerably more. His repairs have held up well, and the chimney has needed no further attention.
Description of Work: Took up and replaced brick sidewalk that had caved in as result of chipmunk tunneling. Repointed chimney where it needed work.

After looking at the job with me, he readily recommended a fairly inexpensive repair instead of rebuilding the steps. He spent quite a bit of time with me for such a small job describing what would be done and how. I found him to be very responsive and would use him again without question.

We first had Mark fix the back patio and liked his work so much we had him make a brick patio on the side of the house. When we decided to change our concrete walkway to brick, we wanted Mark to do the job because his prices were fair and he did such good work on t he other two projects.
Description of Work: Mark put in an entirely new brick walkway, redid the back brick patio and fixed a stone wall on a terraced garden in front of the house. His work was excellent. He was prompt, responsive to what we wanted and since those projects were completed we have received many compliments on the work -- especially the brick walkway which was a large project.

As I said above it went very well. It took him longer, because the previous owners of the house used a crazy material to hold the driveway pieces together. Mark had to remove a section of this very gunky material and repair a long section that joined the concrete pieces. He stuck to his original price quote, even though he encountered problems that were not created by him. He did a great job.
Description of Work: We were having problems with our concrete driveway. I found Mark through Angie's List. He was very responsive to my call. He came out on his own to check out the driveway. He gave me a few different scenarios, including not doing anything. He is not an alarmist. I decided to have him repair the driveway for my own piece of mind. One section was definitely lower than the other sections. It looked like water might be getting down there. I think Mark went above and beyond. He had some problems witht he old materials used. He perservered and did a great job. I would totally recommend him. Seemed like a nice guy as well (always a plus.)

The contractor showed up on time for the appointment, but did not want to do the job.
Description of Work: The contractor quickly set up and kept his appointment. When I showed him the work I wanted done, he said he could not do it because I was too "picky" and he did not think he could live up to my standards. I wanted the work done well, not perfect. Very disappointed.

We called him and he came out within a couple of days to look at our brick patio that needed mortar replacement. He told us when he could do the job, and just as he had said, he was able to do the job within two weeks. He had actually offered to do it sooner if it was an emergency--but it was not. We would have him come back for any other masonry job we might need.
Description of Work: Mark Monnette or Mark Monnette Masonry, 3087 Grange Hill PL, Dublin Ohio came and ground-out old mortar on patio and replace with new mortar in areas where mortar had deteriorated over the years. It looks like a new patio. He also replaced the mortar that had failed between some natural stone facing on a wall leading to our front porch entrance. Mark obviously knows his craft, as it impressed me and my wife how facile he was at the job and how beautiful both the stone work mortar repair and brick work mortar repair came out.

Mark came out and gave me an estimate on how much it would cost to do this work. He explained how he was going to fix it. It was going to be necessary for him to remove some of the pavers from our patio. He also wanted to make sure that this would not happen again and explained that by inserting some tubing this would allow water to better escape. He answered any questions I had. He also was upfront telling me that the earliest he could do the work would be in three weeks. We agreed on a date. On the day he was prompt. Did the work. Made sure I was happy with the work (I was)! Then cleaned up the mess! I was very pleased start to finish with his work. Not only is he a capable worker but he is also nice and personable.
Description of Work: The wall that led to our basement was bowing. I was concerned that the wall was going to crumbled. I wanted to take steps to fix it instead of having to replace it.

He came when he said he was going to come and did what he said he was going to do. He got back to me and explained things so that I could understand. There was one company that I called and they didn’t even call me back. I called and left a message on the 25th of April. They called me back the next day and asked me to leave my information. I called them back the same day which was on the 26th of April and left my address so that they could come out. They said that they would come out and give me a free estimate and I never heard from them again. I called Mark Monnette on the 13th of May and he said that he would come out and give me an estimate and so forth. He did come out. He did the work in June because he was a little packed up in May. His price was fine because no one else called me to compare the price. His punctuality was fine. I would use him again in the future.

Mark was punctual, friendly, and willing to to explain exactly what he was doing and why. He did not try to sell us on repairs beyond what he felt was necessary and sufficient. (A previous estimate from another company had recommended complete capping, which would have cost around $900.) Mark's repairs look just fine.
Description of Work: Repaired three different craters/pot holes on cement front entry porch. Craters/pot holes were about 5" in length and ranged in depth from 1/2" to 1" deep. Filled pot holes, matching concrete patch with existing concrete surfaces.

This was one of our best experiences of hiring a contracter. We had a crawl space opening that needed to be enlarged but we did not want to use a concrete saw because of all the dust. Mark said that he could do it by removing the concrete blocks. He gave us a fantastic price. He was busy but he said he would try to fit us in on the coming weekend or the next. That Saturday morning he called and said he had a cancellation and that he could fit us in. However we were already on our way somewhere. We got done early and we decided to give him a call. It was later in the afternoon but he said he would come on over and do the job. It only took an hour. There was minimal mess and he cleaned up all the debris. I was so happy no dust. Mark did a great job and we were very impressed.

Mark was great to work with- very responsive and did a great job communicating throughout the job. It actually turned into more of a project than we originally thought- turned out that everything under the porch was crumbling as well. But Mark gave us all the options and gave us some recommendations and was able to stay within his original price quote. He is very easy to work with and really knows his craft. The project was done very quickly and we felt like he put in more time and effort than he probably originally planned. His price was the lowest of 3 estimates and the finished product looks great. I would definitely recommend Mark and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

Mark was outstanding in getting the job done and making sure we were happy. The chimney looks as good as new and the leak we had into the basement is now fixed due to his excellent advice and professional service. He is dedicated to making his customers happy and that is why we have used him for almost ten years. We would recommend Mark without hesitation!!!
Description of Work: Chimney brick replaced/refaced (about 20 or so). He was able to match the brick perfectly. Also sealed the chimney after refacing was done. Helped figure out and fix a leak in out front porch which was starting to leak into the basement. He came back several times to help us recut pavers that needed replacing after we fixed the leak.

He was very courteous and polite. He did an okay job, but I am not sure if my husband is totally satisfied. The areas that he worked in kind of stand out and don't blend in with the rest of the brick. You can notice where they repaired everything. The quality of the work was good, he just didn't take the repair far enough. He was very professional and cleaned up well after himself. I will use him again in the future.

Mark was great to work with. He called immediately to schedule the estimate and completed the estimate within a day or two of my initial call - much faster than anyone else I called. After all of the estimates were in, his was the lowest by about half. We had several different ideas from other estimates that we got, and he talked through the pros and cons of all of the design ideas, ultimately recommending the least expensive route because of our needs and the logistics of the space, even though we were willing to pay more for a more elaborate plan. He worked us in quickly because other scheduled projects depended on us finishing the work on the step first, and he even came out on Sunday to finish the job to make sure we met our deadline. He did a few "extras" for us at our request (he did not initiate these and was not "upselling" us) and the additional cost was very fair. We appreciated his honesty, dedication, and professionalism. Most importantly, he really listened to what we needed and wanted and responded to those needs. The workmanship was great, he showed up when he said he would, called and communicated every step of the way, and was very easy to work with. A welcome change from some of the contractors we have worked with, recently. We would highly recommend Mark Monnette Masonry!
