Empire Windows

Mike came out to the house very soon after I called for the estimate. He understood that price was an issue for us and did not try to over sell. He explained all about his windows and left me information to review. He was very nice and no pressure. He was able to schedule our installation a week and a half after we ordered the windows. The installers showed up on time, were very knowledgeable and courteous, indicating they would get the outside work done first in case an expected rainstorm came through. This was helpful as we really wanted to get the windows in before the weekend and work on the needed plaster repairs inside the house. The windows were installed quickly, they beat the rain, and look very nice. They also were very helpful in moving one existing window that was in decent shape but had never been installed correctly. Installation matters! The windows we replaced were not only in bad shape, but had been installed poorly causing plaster wall damage around most of them. The only reason I gave them a B on price is I think window prices in general have gone up a LOT in the past decade. These windows were much better priced than some of the big name windows available. The windows work well, have double locks for when the windows are up, tilt out for cleaning, and are energy efficient. Overall we are very pleased.

The salesman failed to follow-up on the order with the factory, leading to a delayed installation. We told the salesman we wanted the installation to occur before year-end so we could take the tax credit in 2009. The salesman's failure to track the order led to the entire order being delayed due to a manufacturing issue with a single item. The salesman would not have followed up on the order at all if I had not inquired about the order status when the originally planned installation date approached. The installation crew was fantastic. The entire job was complete in less than two days. No mess, no fuss. I had an installer stop back out to check on the sliding door that requires more effort to open and close than it should. This issue persists.

They were fantastic. They came when they said they would, they told me how much it would be and they did a great job. They stuck to their estimate and the windows look beautiful. I would highly recommend them and I am planning on using them again.

They were very reasonably priced. The work was excellent and very quick as well.

It was fine. They came out and gave us a quote and ordered the windows. They came out and installed them and the price was what we were quoted. We had no problems.

We were very satisfied with the quality of their work and service some years ago. I think it was in 2004 or 2005 that they had installed new windows for our house. They were reasonably priced too considering that the price offered by the other company was a lot more. They had provided quality windows, and we had come to know of them through Angie?s List. We were amazed at their promptness and skill. They had installed eight windows within two hours back then. They knew exactly what they were doing, and that is why we called them again. They are very responsive too. A gentleman had taken the measurement and given us an estimate. We felt their deal was better than what we could get anywhere else.

They did pretty good and the work was above average. I would use them again.

They did a really good job. I was very pleased with their service. They did just what they said they were going to do. The workers were very professional. I like that they took the time to show me what they were going to do and how they were going to do it. The work came out very nicely.

They were prompt and did an excellent job. They came right out when I called and changed the windows that cracked in the winter. They windows were nice and the price was reasonable and I was happy with them.

Empire was the only company that I contacted that would work with me on such a small project. I was given all the professionalism and courtesy as if I was replacing all my windows. They came out, showed me the literature, took measurements, and took my order. They then called when the window was ready and came out to install it that same day. The installation was quick and professional. They cleaned up after themselves very well. They answered all of my questions.

Empire window was one of 7 window companies I contacted for bids on my house. Mike Van Gundy came out and did the rough opening measurements and discussed prices with us. Not only was Mike courteous and knowledgeable about his product, he did not see the need to discuss his competition. I only mention the second fact because he was the only representative I talked to to take a high road. All 6 others dragged each other through the dirt and tried to tell me how window ratings and even Angies list scores were false and how careful I should be. Mike told us about the line of windows they carried, thier service record, provided me with a list of houses in my neighborhood to reference, and explained the warranty. His bid was by far the most reasonable for the work we wanted done and the quality of window, which is excellent, that we recieved. The windows, which are made in OH, came in a week early! The guys who did the install were great! Professional, on time, and very polite. They took the time to explain the different steps and completed the work in one day. The finished product looks great on the inside and out. I was so happy with the craftsmanship, they will be installing two exterior doors for me as well.

The crew was friendly, professional and polite. They did everything contracted, to include removal of the debris. After the installation of the windows they did have to return a few weeks later to attach some exterior trim that had come loose.

The only thing what prevented this job, done in 2007, from being a total disaster is that the storm windows are a huge upgrade from the ancient wood versions, look good and we're happy with their installation and operation. However, it took Empire FIVE MONTHS to complete the installation of 22 storm windows, a job they said would take four to six weeks. There was confusion on every aspect of the job. The measuring alone took two weeks and two different people, and then two windows were the wrong size and two others were not what we had ordered. It took three more months before everything was finished. Throughout the process, representatives at Empire were all but unreachable. When I did manage to track someone down, they promised to check on the job status and call me back, then never called back. I even e-mailed the contact person on Empire's Angie's List page, explaining what was going on and asking for answers. He never got back to me. In the end, they gave me a 10 percent discount for my troubles, which is something, I guess. But I would have preferred having excellent service and people who would return my phone calls. Though I am happy with the final result and like the windows, I would not hire Empire again or recommend the company to others. I chose Empire over estimates from three other companies.

It went excellent. They were responsive, efficient, and had a good price.

The quality of their windows is comparable to some of the better companies out there. The quality of the work was good and the end result was good.

It was a terrific experience, from the initial contacts with the sales representatives to the remarkable installation crew, who had the job done in under two days in the sleet and rain.

They did a great job, the windows were exactly the style we ordered. They were the price we were quoted and they came in early and were installed before the quoted time.

Work was done quickly and with excellent workmanship. Salesman was helpful in choosing the windows, and didn't try to up sell us to more expensive windows. They cleaned up well after the work was completed.

Were here on time and completed the work in the amount of time they said it would take. Very polite and responsive. Put window blinds back up and instructed me in the safety and window washing features of the windows. There is a lifetime guarantee on the windows which can be transferred to another owner in case the condo is ever sold.

I called 3 window replacement companies from Angie's List, all on the same morning. I was calling to schedule an appointment for a window replacment estimate. I had to leave messages with each companies receptionist and was promised a callback from a salesperson. I received callbacks from 2 of the companies that day and scheduled the estimate appointments for the next day. This was on a Thursday. Empire windows failed to call back until Tuesday of the next week. Their lack of responsiveness was unacceptable..

The entire project was extremely enjoyable and the installation quality far exceeded my high expectations. We replaced drafty and leaky windows in our 14 year old home. 14 years is not old, but these existing windows, or more importantly, their installation left a lot to be desired. However, Rick, the pre-sales engineer, was very inquisitive about the need to replace and even discussed with me alternatives to full replacement. Who does that? A window salesman trying to not sell windows? I found that very refreshing that he simply wanted to do the right thing for the situation, not just sell windows. At any rate, we were very impressed with the company's selling style and more so in their manufacturer selection, Soft-Lite Windows located in Streetsboro, OH. With the sea of windows out there, it is very hard for anyone to even remotely know the better/best from the good. I felt comfortable knowing that Empire has installed Soft-Lite windows for many years. I did my own research and reading and found no issues with Soft-Lite. We ordered 8 double-hung replacements, 1 picture window to replace two double hungs side-by-side previous, and a sliding patio door. Rick helped us with color selection and options, such as grid/mullions on the front windows and also spoke candidly about the windows high efficiency and performance and which window line was the best bang for the buck. Ultimately, I selected the better of the two series simply due to the small cost increase and the fact that we will be in the house for many, many years. We do not want to do windows again. ;-) The windows arrived about a week earlier than their estimated date. They scheduled us on the date we preferred and on that day 4 installers arrived. They got rolling immediately and within two hours they had all windows removed and new windows staged. They had no problem with me checking out the holes in my house looking for water damage and all the guys were extremely friendly and having fun doing their work. They let us know when they would be making noise so that we could take care of our 2 month old, take her to another room, etc. That is nice to see. People doing great work, thinking of the customer first, and having fun doing it.

It went very well. There were three guys who were friendly, polite, and answered all my questions. They cleaned up after themselves good. The work was satisfactory.

The installation went well. It took two hours as Kevin, the installer had predicted. He and his associate were helpful and friendly and answered all my questions. Kevin also replaced (unasked) a locking mechanism in my bedroom window and left me some extras for future use. My only complaint was that they didn't show up when they said they would and didn't call. I had to leave a message on Kevin's cell phone. When he returned my call sometime later, he apologized profusely and explained that some windows for an ongoing job in another town had arrived, and the company had asked him to put them in immediately. He simply forgot that he was supposed to be at my house that morning. Fortunately, I didn't have anywhere else I had to be that morning, so I could wait for the installers. I've never had a problem with this company before, so I guess this was just a fluke. Kevin was obviously embarrassed and very apologetic. I also pointed out to Kevin that the original estimator had miscalculated the cost of my job. The coupon that Empire had listed in Angie's List said that I could have $100 off any job over $1000. The estimator had only deducted $50 from my cost by accident (the other coupon in Angie's gave you $50 off for jobs under $1000). Kevin tried to talk to a salesperson at Empire, but couldn't get anyone appropriate. He just went ahead and deducted the extra $50 and said that the company would take care of it later on their records.

Everything went very well. Rick came to my house as scheduled and took measurements. He answered all my questions and showed me all the information I requested about the windows. I ended up using another company because a personal friend of mine had an interest in the company, but I would recommend that others look into this company. ($4,500)

They started at 9:30 AM and finished at 3:30 PM. They were highly organized and neat in their work. The finished product was excellent even though a new employee was working on his first day. In addition, the crew was friendly and considerate. They gladly answered all my questions. I couldn't be happier.
