Description of Work: On Tuesday 9 December 2014, Stevenson's Service Experts performed an annual |routine inspection as part of a pre-paid agreement. The technician asked if I had any problems. I told him no, but that I did had heard an intermittent noise (big mistake!) when the furnace started up which was not continuous. Otherwise there was no other problem. | |After looking it over, he came from upstairs and told me that the furnace's inducer motor was bad, and quoted a cost of over $1000. He went on and on that "furnaces don't last as long as they use to" and this 10-year old furnace could go out within from 3 months or that it might last 3 years. Now I was becoming very suspicious. He began to push me to buy a new one and mentioned a special they were having that included an air conditioner. (He mentioned a previous technician's report that the AC unit was arcing and was not providing efficient cooling). All the while he said he wasn't trying to pressure me, but that I could end up having no heat when it gets really cold. He went to his truck to talk to his boss to see what he could do about the price. He came back and stated that they would reduce the charge to $795, and I felt he was being ingratiating. He finally left after I told him that I wasn't going to do anything since I had no heating problems at this time. | |As the evening wore on, the house started getting very chilly. Since the temp |outside was getting colder and the fact there had been heat before he arrived, I thought |nothing of it. During the night however, it got especially cold and upon arising |Wednesday, 10 Dec, the house temperature was 55 degrees and the furnace was |continually running (The thermostat is programmed for 65 degrees at night). |I called Stevenson's and told them there was no heat and I felt the technician had done |something to cause this problem, so they sent a different technician that afternoon. |He checked the unit and agreed with the previous technician that the inducer motor was |bad and now he included the "inducer pressure switch" which would cost $300-400 plus |the $1000 for the inducer motor. It was very odd that the first technician never said |anything about the switch being bad. | |I was so angry that I told him I would be getting a second opinion, heat or no heat, since |all these problems only happened after routine checkup by Service Experts. It was obvious that he did not want this, because he went to supposedly discuss prices |with his 'boss'. He came back and said the price would be reduced to $295 for the pressure switch, and the inducer motor $795. Again, I mentioned getting a second opinion, so he again checked with his 'boss'. Now, there would no charge me for the switch, and only $699 for the motor. | |I called my son so he could hear the ridiculousness of what was happening. My son |talked with the technician and also the office. The technician told me and my son that the reduced price would only stand for that night (I think he did not want me to get a second opinion from another company). He also knew he had me over a barrel since the situation was desperate with no heat, so I let him order the parts to be installed on Friday, 12 Dec. | |The next morning Thursday 11 December, I called another company who came out that |afternoon. That technician showed me the "inducer switch" which he said was completely separated on the high speed side of the assembly causing no heat. It |appeared to be deliberately pulled apart. This technician tested and checked the |"inducer motor" and found nothing at all wrong and said only the inducer switch would |have to be replaced which cost $188.21. Since it had to be ordered I was without heat from 9 Dec until Monday 15 Dec with temperatures dipping into the mid 20's at night |(I cancelled the Friday appointment with Stevenson's). It is now 1 May, 2015 and I have had no further problems whatsoever during the remaining winter season with this furnace. Stevenson's Service Experts are practicing unscrupulous activities. |

Description of Work: ONE GEO UNIT and Easy Water plus system tuneup: We spent a lot of money on goods and services with this company and I believe they did a fine job! They do have some highly experienced techs and those guys make a huge difference because they care about doing the job correctly the first time! Thanks heaps! KFW
