The technician quickly diagnosed the problem, and even offered a very effective and cost reducing fix for the vent problem. The new vent was installed and the drain cleared in under an hour. The technician was very nice and professional and took the time to answer all my questions. This was a very positive experience and we would have no trouble recommending Roto Rooter to friends and family.
Description of Work: The kitchen drain had backed up and that exposed a secondary problem of a vent that was improperly installed and badly corroded away.

They charged me $142 for the job. They are good. However, I did have problems with them trying to charge me for work that they had already done. They wanted to do each individual drain for certain amount of dollars. You have to be very careful while they do work on your drains as they tried to charge me to do individual drain. There will be a main drain that can unclog all the other drains. It is cheaper to do that than to unclog individual drains. I will use them in the future.
Description of Work: I used Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Services for plumbing services, five months ago. They unclogged some drains for me.

I was unhappy with the interaction with office. I knew what I wanted (had this problem before) and the young lady insisted on taking me through a bunch of questions even though I kept saying I knew what was needed. Also, refused to give any idea of what they charge -- by the hour, by the job. Then told me she was not a plumber -- it sound very condescending. A better answer: "I am sorry, I understand your desire to have some idea of the cost -- unfortunately we don't have a price list because the plumbers make the estimates."

We received a very high water bill in November 2011. The county in which we live sent a high consumption expert who did a complete assessment of our home and determined that we most likely had a leak in the underground pipes leading from the water meter pit in our yard to the main shut off in our house. We called Roto Rooter for an estimate. We called on a Saturday morning and they sent someone out that afternoon. Unfortunately, even though we specified it was outdoor excavation work, they sent an indoor plumber. The correct person was then sent to our home on Sunday. We were told he would be there between 11 and 1. He called at 10:30 am and said he would be there at 11am. He arrived just a few minutes after 11 am. He spent 45 minutes with my husband and I explaining exactly what would be entailed in the project and gave us an estimate. Chad Dodd was the project manager we met with. After asking around, we decided to go with Roto Rooter and accepted the proposal they provided. We called and accepted the proposal on 11/22/11 and signed the contracts. They were at our home beginning the project at 9:30 am on 11/23/11. They did have some difficulty with the project due to the pipes and layout of our house and yard, but the job was almost complete by 8pm that same day. Because it was the day before Thanksgiving, they were not able to get the city inspector out so they could have the site inspected. Without the inspection, they were unable to fill the giant hole in our yard which bordered the walkway to our front door. We were told they would place boards and caution tape around the area. They did place red caution tape, but the hole was not boarded over. They also did not cement around the pipe coming into the house and we received a great deal of rain that weekend as they could not come back out until the following Monday 11/28/11. Due to the hole not being cemented, we had some water come into the house and destroy the insulation in that part of the wall. They did not make us aware that they were going to be returning Monday during the day so that we would need to be home, so we did not take off work. Unfortunately, when my husband left early that day missing 90 minutes of work, they did not show up nor did they call until after 6pm. We set up for me to be at home the next day at 4:30, meaning I lost 30 minutes of work. They didn't show up until 6:45 pm. And they never called and made us aware they were running late. So my husband and I lost a total of 2 hours of wages that week which was very frustrating. They apologized for the inconvenience. The other issue we had was no one warned us that our basement would be a disaster area when they finished. They had us remove everything from the wall that they would be drilling into, but that is the only preparation they told us need to be done in our finished basement. After the drilling was complete, our entire basement had a layer of cement dust including all our furniture, and electronics. Thankfully everything worked, but the clean up took almost 6 hours. We also noted that when they cut out the drywall and drilled into the wall, they didn't place a tarp so when they were done, we had almost 18 inches of dirt, mud, and rocks inside our wall, and the insulation in that area was destroyed. When I called Chad, the field manager, he said the guys on his team would take care of that. When they finally came back Tuesday night, they cemented around the pipe, cut a larger hole in the drywall and removed all the rocks and dirt. As they were preparing to leave, we noticed that the drill they had laid on our carpet had caused a large grease stain that didn't come up with our carpet cleaner. When we voiced our concern, they took an additional $50 off our total. So there were definitely issues with our project, but I do feel Roto Rooter did their best to make the situation right. We did have frustration with spending such a large amount of money and still feeling like things were not done to our satisfaction. But as I stated, they did what they could to make the situation better.
Description of Work: We had a exterior, underground pipe leaking. Roto Rooter replaced the pipes from our outdoor water meter pit to the main shut off inside the house. They used a "hole hog" to tunnel out a new line for the pipe, and dug a 6 foot hole in our yard to replace the copper pipes.

The entire process, albeit tedious, went very well. There were many tree roots in the path of the PVC pipe placement line so there was a lot of hand digging and root removal required. Some of the roots were 3-4" in diameter. The men were not only careful to maintain the integrity of our yard the best they could but also to monitor the angle of the PVC pipe placement with the slope of our yard so that the water would exit the pipe properly when the sump pump kicked in. They tested the flow by activating the sump pump several times before they buried the pipe. They worked the better part of a full day in 85+ degree weather and high humidity. We have not had any problems with drainage since this repair. The two men were polite, respectful, and listened to our concerns about placement, drainage, etc. Any questions we had were answered to our satisfaction. We will most definitely use the 2549 Stanley Avenue in Dayton, OH Roto Rooter again for any sewer or drainage problems.
Description of Work: We had a broken drain tile from tree roots and there was standing water in our yard where there also happens to be a large maple tree. The damaged drain tile was replaced with PVC pipe and to complete that process, approximately 20 feet of ground had to be dug up including the removal of numerous large tree roots. To prevent damaging our lawn any more than they had to, the two men dug the trench and removed the roots by hand.

The work was excellent. The technician they sent out was very qualified; he was a licensed plumber who was very knowledgeable and helpful. I have used them the last 3 or 4 times for drain cleaning for the past 5 years; they do excellent work. They offer coupons for drain cleaning through the value pack sent through the mail. I am very happy with them. They always call ahead and they on time.

It didn't go well. The estimate was way overpriced, the individual they sent took a "take it or leave it" attitude.
Description of Work: Had them come for a simple estimate for moving a washing machine and utility tub water supply and drain lines approximately 8 linear feet. Their estimate was a ridiculous $875 after taking all of 2 minutes to look at the job. When asked why the estimate was so outrageous, the 20 something individual remarked that it was all "flat rates." Would NOT use them again.

The employee was prompt and friendly. He told me up front what the cost would be and did not pressure me to make a quick decision. I had him do the work since the price seemed reasonable. He even let me watch over his shoulder while he worked. (I'm just curious) My drains were seriously clogged but the employee was very patient and seemed willing to stay all day if that's what it took. I forgot to give them the Angie's list discount coupon until they were pulling out of the driveway. I flagged them down and the employee graciously altered the invoice and let me write a new check.

I gave them A's on everything except price. This is the first water heater I've had replaced, and from what I've been told by friends and family, 1000 bucks is a pretty good price, hence the "B". I know Roto Rooter marks things up a bit, but I think they are pretty competitive. Of course they will be more than a Lowe's, but honestly, the extra 100-200 bucks is worth it to me to have a trained and experieced professional working with my gas lines as opposed to someone from Lowe's.
Description of Work: Curtis came out from Roto Rooter and quickly diagnosed that my water heater was leaking and needed to be replaced. 13 years is about what you can expect and he quickly went to work. He ended up having to re-route some of my gas line due to the newer version of the same model (in 13 years the size and location of the plumbing had changed slightly), but ran out to the local hardware store to pick up what he needed. He was very polite and even taught me a thing or two along the way. I would recommend him and Roto Rooter to a close friend or family member. The other nice thing is that they are open 24/7, so if you find a problem at night (like I did), they can have someone there first thing in the morning.

We had a flooded basement due to a storm and water came in through the floor drain. It was still full of water after we pumped out the standing water so I called for them to clear the drain. They were very prompt and did their job. The next day, there was standing water in the drain again, so I called and they returned to do the job again. They also brought a camera and looked at our main sewer line to the city sewer. It had no standing water but did have some junk inside. They sugessted and gave me a proposal for a $10,000.00 liner for the main pipe. He then cleared the floor drain and, I said I would think about it and be in touch. Clearly, we have no real issue with the main pipe, it is the floor drain. I felt they were trying to scare me into unnecessary work. If they had stuck with the problem at hand, I would be fine with them, the proposal made me distrust their ethics.
Description of Work: They cleaned out the floor drain in our basement after a huge rainstorm caused a flood in the basement. They basically snaked it,

We got home from work on a Friday evening and found the toilet wouldn't stop running. We attempted to turn off the shut off valve, but it wouldn't shut off. We looked inside the tank and saw that it had a slight crack. We couldn't let the water run all weekend and we couldn't shut it off, so it was an emergency situation. My husband attempted to call the plumbing company we normally use, but they didn't answer. By this time it was around 5:30 p.m. or so. So he went to the Yellow Pages and called Roto Rooter. At first I was surprised he called them because I didn't know they did plumbing--we had only had them clean drains for us previously. A short while later we got a phone call telling us Andre would be out in about 20 minutes. He arrived promptly and assessed the situation. We had the issue with the toilet but also had a problem with the shut off valves for the sink. We turned off the water to the house so he could do the work. We told him we wanted a new toilet installed due to the crack we saw inside the tank and the shut off valve would also need to be replaced as we couldn't get it to shut off. He was able to get the shut off valves under the sink working so they didn't need to be replaced. While he was doing that he noticed a leak in the P trap that would require that to be replaced. We had previously noticed a slight bit of dripping under the sink, so that wasn't surprising and we were glad to get that fixed as well. In all, Andre was at our house for about 3 1/2 or 4 hours. He was very pleasant in spite of the fact that we ruined his Friday evening as he was supposed to get off work at 7:00 p.m. and he didn't get to leave our house until about 10 p.m. or so! Due to the emergency situation, we didn't get a chance to do any price comparison, so we don't have any idea how this price compares to what other companies would have charged. The labor charge did seem fairly high, though, but we haven't had any other plumbing work done for a while so I don't have any basis for comparison. Andre did a very nice job with the work.
Description of Work: Installed new shut off valve for toilet, installed new toilet, installed new P Trap for sink and got the sink shut off valves working again.

Roto-Rooter is a great plumber service in Dayton Ohio. They were very helpful in our issues of getting a sewage pump back up and working. They also gave us some tips that would help us maintain our pump and keep it in working order. It was great working with such a GREAT plumber who presented himself very professionally to us during our first few days in a new house. If you are looking for a great plumber in Dayton OH, make sure you give Roto-Rooter a call and watch your troubles go down the drain!

The technician, Andre, was prompt and got right to it. The only hitch was that the 100' snake wasn't long enough to reach the end of the pipe. Roto-Rooter gave us a 6 month guarantee on the work and will bring a bigger snake if it backs up again. Overall, we are satisfied, though we won't know if it worked until we get the next big rain or snow melt.

They arrived on Saturday morning. He tried to clear the sewer line, but could only get his line in a little ways. Since he didn't have a camera to go in and see, he arranged for someone else to come later in the day. He went ahead and installed the water filter and softener. It took some rework on the pipes because the old way was set up to only take the hot water through the softener and I wanted it done to take all the water through the filter and softener. It took him quite a while but he finally finished it. However, I have had a continuing problem with leaks and there are at least 2 places that are still leaking. For the sewer, the supervisor arrived and sent the camera down the line. It appeared the line was completely blocked. He put together a quote that afternoon. Since it hasn't actually backed up, I felt like I was being rushed. But from the video, it looked like I needed to do something so I agreed to the price. They came out and excavated on Sunday morning and started putting in the liner on Monday. It took them several days longer than originally planned, but the conditions weren't good as it was during the very cold period we had in December. So, I don't blame them for that. However, they did a very poor job backfilling when they were done. There is still at least a 5 ft. by 4 ft area that is at least a foot deep with a pile of dirt beside it. Also, they drove across a section of the front yard completely away from where they were digging leaving small ruts that were unnecessary. Due to the poor backfill and the leaks on the inside plumbing job, I'll probably look for a different plumber next time I need one.
Description of Work: I called to have them clean out my sewer as it had backed up the year before and they had suggested doing it every year do to the many trees. In addition, I had the install a whole house water filter and a new water softener. They ended up putting a new liner in the sewer.

Their prices were a bit high, but we got service within two hours of the call. They were able to get out within a half hour. Their availability is unbeatable. They did a good job, and we do not have a problem with the sewer anymore. They are prompt. They come when you call them. They tell you what it is going to cost first, and they charge you the same amount. They are really good to work with and are very reliable. I have worked with them may times. Their prices have gone up a lot but their quality of work is good.
Description of Work: I used Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Service a year and half ago. They first did a cleaning job, and then we had a collapsed sewer line. They arranged for that to be dug up and repaired. I am not sure if that was done by a contractor or by themselves. They had to dig up the lawn and replace 10 feet of line that had collapsed. Inside they used a liner as well.
