On the morning of January 22nd, we woke up to the house being only 52 degrees and the furnace was blowing cold air. We looked on Angie's List and found this company. When calling, we were told that it would be $79 to come out and look to see what the problem is and then go from there. There was also a coupon for $25 off of the service call. When the man got here, we explained the problem and showed him where the furnace is. He took off the front panel and also noticed that the register vent on the side of the furnace was closed. He explained that having the vent closed, the heat wasn't being pushed out and it was causing the switch to trip. The time he was here, he kept saying that we needed more ducts and informed us that our furnace would never pass inspections. Upon leaving, he gave me a paper saying that I owed $147. How can this be? He charged us $93 for something. He never cleaned anything. I wrote a check because it was my husband who was in the basement with him and he had left so at the time, I thought maybe my husband had him do something that I was unaware of. Approximately 10 minutes after he left, I had cold air again. I immediately called the company and they had the service man call me back. I told him it was cold and the temperature was dropping and he AGAIN explained that I need more ducts. How is it that I have had no issue with what ducts I have until now? He then said, "There is nothing more I can do for you." Seriously? I then called a second company who came out a few hours later. When he came in, he inspected everything. He took off the back panel, which Butler didn't do, and found the problem immediately. The coil was clogged. He then said that we DON'T need more ducts and that he doesn't see why our furnace wouldn't pass inspections other than the switch cover was missing. The problem was fixed by another company, NOT by Butler. I will NEVER use this company for anything and will warn people I know not too as well.

Response from Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Company
It was our technician’s professional opinion that the furnace was installed with inadequate ductwork. We offered to have the duct system evaluated and estimate what would be required for adequate sizing. The customer declined. We voided and returned the customer’s check undeposited.

We decided to replace our 29 year old 80% Carrier gas furnace because the Federal government has mandated that as of May 1, 2013 all 80% furnaces will be prohibited from being installed in Ohio homes. We obtained 3 estimates but decided to go with Butler Heating & A/C and the Carrier 80% efficient furnace because of the good service we received with the replaced Carrier furnace that was installed in 1983, the courteous and efficient maintenance service we have received from "Mike" of Butler Heating for several years, the pleasant, no high pressure salesman Mr. Eddie Bennett, and finally, the very fair and reasonable price. The furnace was installed on November 15, 2012 by installer Mr. Bill Parton who, in my opinion, did a very thorough and neat job. The job actually took a day and a half as Mr. Parton returned on November 16 to complete the job. (We had heat on the night of November15). The new furnace is working fine and it is quieter than the furnace it replaced.
Description of Work: Purchased a new Carrier 58STA070 80% single stage gas furnace from Butler Heating & A/C which was intalled on 11/15/12.

My furnace was not always turning on when I ajusted the thermostat. I saw all the good reviews about Butler from Angies list and called Butler. Dick was my serviceman. He listened to me about the problem I was having and checked things out. He could tell right away just by hearing the sound of my furnace that it needed to be cleaned and serviced. After he was done it has been working great. He didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need which is always much appreciated and seems rare now a days. I plan on calling Butler in the future for all my furnace and air services. Dick did a great job and was very informative. I also recommended the company and Dick to service my sisters and brother in laws furnace as welll. Highly recommended to everyone. Please keep up the good and honest work Butler!
Description of Work: Dick from Butler heating and Air cleaned, checked and serviced my furnace. My furnace would not always turn on when I turned up the thermostat. (The price I put was a wild guess because I can't remember exactly how much it cost for the service. I am not at home at this time while writing the review so I can't look it up to be sure)

Richard gave the estimate and explained everything invlolved with the new install and the workings of the new furnace. He seemed very knowledgable and listened to my comments regarding the old unit and what i was expecting from th new unit. He had serviced my old one last year and was very thorough and explained what he was doing. I was told it would take two days but in reality it took four days for the furnace install..the old one was removed the first day and new one in place so would have use in the even it was needed. There was a lot of fitting and metal work to do to make the new one fit within the space. A humidifier was also installed and was told if ever there was water on the floor there was a problem. Well the following week there was water on the floor on a Sunday night so i called and the after hours service tech came to inspect and advised it was my water heater leaking on the floor so the following day they brought me a new water heater. Later that week i had water on the floor again and Richard came as he was on after hours duty that evening. He discovered a crack on the drip pan of the pump and replaced it. Problem solved. Richard is great in that he goes that extra mile and checks every single thing. Of course i was not happy about the water heater replacement after just paying for the furnace but it was very old and i realize it would have gone out sooner than i wanted and now i no longer need worry about either. I had called two other places for prices on water heaters and they matched my plumbers price for the exact same water heater which i thought was only fair. All in all i am very happy and would definitely recommend Butler to friends and family.
Description of Work: Old furnace replaced and new hot water heater replaced about a week later. Old furnace and water heater removed and area completely returned to the way it was prior to installation of both applicances. They were very conscientious about leaving everything the way it was before they began the process.

I believe my first call was on a Wednesday or Thursday. They sent someone (Kurt) out to check out the problem who was very friendly, professional, and did a great job explaining my options. At that time, he told me he would give the info to sales people who would call me with prices for the 3 options we discussed. When I did not receive a call two business days later, I called on Wednesday, was told the sales manager would call me back, so I waited and he never called. I called again Thursday or Friday and someone apologized, said someone would call me so I waited and waited. A few minutes before 5pm Friday, I received a call with an estimate for one of the three options Kurt and I discussed. I asked when that work could be performed and I was told I'd receive a call back on Monday. That was TWO WEEKS ago and still no one has called me back to schedule an appointment to have the work done. I called a competitor who came out the day I called to look at the same thing and gave me much better service as well as estimated dates of when they could complete the work. If I could base my experience solely on Kurt, it was great, but on the rest of the company, it was awful. They apparently don't need business since they seem to throw it to the side.
Description of Work: I called Butler based on the great reviews here to request an estimate to have air ducts hooked up and possibly replaced and/or cleaned. 2 of mine are disconnected. The price was in the $550-650 range which was in line with a competitor. The inspection was done but the actual pricing I requested was never provided. I asked for pricing for 3 options and it was only provided for 1 option. The company never called me back (as they stated they would two weeks ago) to schedule the work.

We noticed the AC wasn't working well Friday night. We called Saturday morning at 8 am and got scheduled for that day. The technician arrived around 11 am and was done before noon. The technician was courteous and efficient. They had a replacement part in the truck and that saved having to go back to get one. I gave a "B" on the price only because I think the price was good but I didn't bother to shop around so I had nothing to compare to. I was overall happy with the value I received.

Eddy from Butler A/C, the sales representative, took the time to learn what problems we were having with the existing HVAC system starting with major spots of "cold air" in parts of the great room and kitchen on the first floor, poor air circulation on the second floor during the summer and the very low temperature (about 45 degrees F) in the winter in the basement. We also explained the A/C compressor needed refrigerant during each of the last two summers and the compressor's fan motor was replaced the previous year.Eddy made two visits to the home to completely survey the situation and develop a solution to all these problems. He was the only vendor who visited our home who bothered to figure out why the air circulation was so poor upstairs in the summer time and what was causing the large "pockets" of cold air downstairs in the winter. He removed the second floor's cold air return grill, leaned inside with a flashlight and found not one, but two four to six foot pieces of insulation were blocking two thirds of the cold air return's trunk passage. This blockage created most of the air circulation problems. In the basement, he determined the best place to install an additional duct run so as not to damage the existing finished basement's walls or ceilings. The installation went well, taking about a day and a half. One hiccup, not due to Butler's fault, was one of the lower motor speeds on the blower motor in the Carrier furnace failed the day after installation. Butler quickly responded, ascertained the problem was a premature component failure and, since it was a Saturday, implemented a temporary workaround to solve the problem until a replacement component could be obtained and installed on Monday morning. This was just a freak failure of the Carrier component; not a failure by anyone at Butler A/C. Repeat: This problem was not due to the Butler personnel's work. We were pleased to hear Butler's management made a decision on Saturday afternoon that if the replacement Carrier component did not clear the issue on Monday morning, they would remove the entire installation and replace it with another one on Monday afternoon. This is exactly how a vendor should respond to a problem. They were able to procure and install a replacement component first thing Monday morning which corrected the problem. The new A/C and furnace work fine, the air circulation problem on the second floor was eliminated and the "cold pockets" on the first floor were also eliminated. The temperature difference between the first and second floor is barely noticeable, maybe two degrees at the most. Two observations:1. When your new gas furnace is installed, expect some smoke and oily smells for probably the first hour or so of use until the shipping preservative burns off the heat exchanger. We did not know about this situation and were surprised when smoke appeared when the furnace was fired up the first few times. The smoke was not strong enough to trigger the smoke or carbon monoxide detectors. We opened the windows for a few minutes to clear the air.2. The Honeywell programmable thermostat has a base unit and a wireless sensor. We had Butler install the base unit in the kitchen where the existing thermostat was installed. The wireless sensor is installed in the great room next to the steps to the second floor. This eliminated the old thermostat's problem of being installed in the kitchen with all the temperature issues there (stove, oven, refrigerator), reused the previous wiring channel from the basement and provided a better point of measurement for the first floor's temperature. We are very pleased with Butler's service and the overall installation. All of their personnel are extremely polite and professional. None play the game of only speaking to the husband and ignoring the wife.BTW--Butler had a $200 coupon on Angie's list which was applied towards this purchase.
Description of Work: 1. Replaced builder's grade Bryant 66,000 BTU furnace installed when the house was built in 1998. The replacement Carrier 60,000 BTU furnace is 96.5% efficient.2. Installed Honeywell programmable thermostat with remote sensor in great room.4. Installed in-line whole house humidifier.5. Installed Carrier tin plated evaporator coil.6. Installed new duct run in basement with 4" X 10" register to improve temperature in winter time.7. I was told that a technician would be here sometime between 12 and 5. mark was here about 12:30. He did a check on the furnace and found a blown capacitor and replaced it. I asaked if he could check the a/c freon and system, he said not a problem. before i called butler, i thought that i may need a blower motor replaced, and was looking to fork out about $400 to fix. but with just a blown capacitor, and a couple of discounts, my bill was only $136. good fast service, professional worker, great price. cant get any better than that!!
Description of Work: Mark came out, checked over the furnace and found a blown capacitor. he also checked all the wiring to insure none were loose, and checked to make sure the a/c worked to my satisfaction.

Overall, we were really pleased. They gave us a ballpark of when they would be here and then the person who came out called about a half hour before he actually arrived. He was very nice and very considerate. It was kind of a wet day and we had just had new carpet put in and he was real careful about not walking on the carpet. He cleaned up after himself and did a really good job. We had problems with the original installation. Some of the vent stuff wasn’t exactly the way it should be, so he corrected that. I did not check the others as they are the ones that I use all the time. They came out on the Christmas day. It was not good as the thermostat went off. They had just installed the furnace in September and the thermostat went out on the Christmas day. I did not spend anything as it was under the warranty. I spent around $5000 when they installed my furnace. I would like to grade them as very good. It was the Christmas day and they were back a couple of days later. They were very punctual.

Butler Heating and Air Conditioning called me to remind me that my heat pump unit was due for service. (I had kept putting the maintenance off.) They scheduled the apporintment for the next day. Richard arrived a little late, but they had called to inform me that they were backed up due to unforseen issues at a previous customer. He was very professional and accomplished the maintenance check/servicing without issue. I really appreciated Richard taking the time to give me an assessment of the health of my heat pump, and also recommendations on the most efficient way to run the system. This extra time on his part was really appreciated. This is my second dealing with Butler Heating and Air Conditioning, and I have been impressed both times. I also greatly appreciate the $25.00 Angie's list discount, which I forgot to ask for, but Richard remembered.

It was less than three hours from the initial phone call to the time of departure. It has been a positive experience overall. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: It was 60 degrees in my house when I got home from work that morning. I had had the same problem last winter, and had a technician from another company make several visits to rectify the problem, spending almost 2000.00 in the process. When it happened again, I was REALLY unhappy. So, I called Butler, and they had a technician {Mike} out in less than an hour. Mike managed to identify and fix the problem in less than two hours. It was a structural problem that was causing the furnace not to turn over, and cost less than 200.00 to repair. The other guys wanted to sell me a new furnace. Needless to say, I will be dealing with Butler in the future! This company is tops in my book!

Overall it was a positive experience. I requested a quote for new furnace and heat pump and Richard did a thorough work up for my specific needs. He took his time and when he brought the quote explained everything in detail even though I was pressed for time. I have not decided yet on the direction I will take regarding the new units.
Description of Work: Safety check of furnace and it was the best one to date. Richard was very thorough and explained what he was doing and answered all of my questions satisfactorily. Have had another company in the past and they did not check anything basically but did advise i needed a new unit.
