These guys are great. They did additional maintenance servicing of the system without charging me extra. Also, gave me $30 off when I mentioned them I came through Angie's List.
Description of Work: I have a Traine A/C system. I had a condensate pan overflow. The pan was in a unreachable place to fix it myself. Called Butler based on AL's rating.

The price for installing the furnace was $3000. We decided to go with someone else for getting the attic fan installed. Butler was very professional. They took a long time to install it and made sure that it was installed properly. They did explain things to us. Something that didn?t work for us was that there was some miscommunication between the sales and the technical departments. It was kind of a big error. They told us that we could only buy a certain brand and a certain type of heating apparatus for our basement because of the clearance issue. The salesman had told us that they had to raise the unit a couple of inches off the floor. The service guy told us that they couldn?t raise it up any higher when he got here to install the system because of the ductwork. If the initial guy had a little more experience with the technical end, then we would have had more options in terms of what kind of furnace we needed. The sales guy told us as to why we needed that particular model because we had a low clearance ceiling and it had to be less raised up at a certain dimension. However, the guy who came to install it didn?t raise it up and said that he couldn?t raise it up. I felt like they didn?t communicate with each other very well on that. We could have got a less expensive furnace and it wasn?t a good price. However, we had two little kids and it was in the middle of winter. So we didn?t have a whole lot of time to shop around. They were very professional and I would probably use their services in the future.
Description of Work: Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Company installed a furnace for us about 6 months ago. They first checked out the old furnace and then gave us an estimate for installing the new one. They also gave us an estimate for installing an attic fan.

I used the other company that was very thorough and professional in their sales approach. It made me feel confident that I was making the best decision on selecting the best system configuration.
Description of Work: Butler provided a proposal for new HVAC system. Was very slow in responding to questions about the proposal and displayed a lack of product knowledge and lack of interest in details. I used another local, well-known contractor who recognized my need for a thorough analysis with options. The other company was very willing and able to satisfy me.

Response from Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Company
This customer called us on 2/22/10 to set an estimate, appointment was set for 2/23/10. He was interested in new equipment to be introduced to us at our Lennox Dealer Meeting on Thursday 3/18 & Friday 3/19. On Monday 3/22 an estimate was emailed to him. On 3/25 our sales administrator made a follow-up call to the customer, she had to leave a voicemail. On 3/25 she also sent out a letter thanking the customer for choosing us & letting them know she was available to discuss any questions or comments they had concerning appointment, sales proposal, installation or salesperson. The letter also contained her contact information & when a return call could be expected if a voicemail was left after hours. On 3/26 she spoke with him, he said he would call back if he decided anything - do not call back right now. He also sent emails to his salesman. Following are the times messages were sent & the response times; 3/23 @ 8:21am response 3/23 @ 3:35pm, 3/23 @ 11:51pm response 3/24 @ 11:58AM, 3/24 @ 10:14pm response 3/25 @ 2:21pm. On 5/10 the salesman spoke to him, he told us he has bought Lennox but would not say from whom. The next time we had contact with this customer was on 9/17 when we received notice of a new report from Angie's List. After receiving the review we did try to contact him at 12:45 pm on 9/18 and at 5:25 pm on 9/22. We had to leave messages & have not received a return call.

Determined the A/C unit outside was not getting electrical power. Investigated the braker box for blown fuses. Determined the power supply had failed and was not delivering enough amps to support all of our electrical curcuits. Called DP&L who responded later that day and confiremd the service line to our home was faulty. Installed a new service line which fixed the problem.
Description of Work: Technician responded to our call for service. A/C was blowing warm air.

Butler Heating and Air Conditioning did a great job. I contacted them on Tuesday 7/27 about getting an estimate on a complete replacement of my 20+ year old furnace and air conditioner, and they had Eddie come to my house the next morning. He spent 2.5 hours examining the old systems, measuring the size of each room in the house, measuring and counting the windows, and counting all the registers and air returns. He wanted to determine the actually heating anc cooling needs of the house. Once that was determined, he spent time determining the best system to meet those needs and giving me options. He also made sure that the system we picked would meet the current rebates and tax credits available. We scheduled the work to begin the next Monday 8/1, but Eddie called Sunday night to say that just that week Lennox had completely replaced the system we had picked (95% efficient) with their brand new line of 98% efficient units. He informed us that we would be getting the brand new line for the price that we had already agreed upon. That was a nice bonus for us. By 8:30 Monday morning, Chris and another technician (sorry, I can't remember his name) were out replacing our old system. There were unforeseen complications due to some unique construction from 1963 in our house, but they solved every problem. By Wednesday afternoon, Chris had everything tested. I was very pleased with the equipment, the employees, and the company as a whole.
Description of Work: Complete replacement of air conditioner and furnace.

I got new AC/Furnace quotes from 5 companies, including Butler. I chose them for the following reasons: Carrier brand name, great salesperson who did not talk down to me, gave me a great discount for military service, gave me a great Labor warranty with the price of the system, performed a heat loss/heat gain on my house (no other company did this), and has a great name in the Dayton Area (a previous owner of the house had butler install the old furnace 28 years ago). My salesperson, Eddie, was wonderful, and not only was easy to talk to, but was willing to go through things as many times as needed. I called him one night at 8pm - I expected voicemail - he answered and during his family time and calmed my fears about this big purchase, answered all my questions. He made sure I would get the full credits from DP&L, Vectren, and federal taxes. He has called me each step of the way to make sure I'm satisfied. A+ Eddie! The install team was on time and easy to work with. They were fast and efficient, I went to check on them several times and was really surprised to how fast the tear out of my old system was going. I asked many questions and they answered them, I even asked about why they were doing them a certain way - and if that was code - they told me all of the code regulations for each question I had. My installer had been doing this for 20 years, that's experience. They cleaned up everything, and it looks like my system magically transformed into a new one, nothing old was left. The 2 day job ended up being "easy" for the experienced installers and finished on the first day, I was very happy. The installation manager came the next day, checked over the install, made a couple of minor tweaks (the dehumidification line on the control board hadn't been hooked up, and set the blower tonnage to 25cfm less - just to be exact - it wouldn't have mattered). He went over everything with me, and allowed me to look over his shoulder the whole time while he explained everything he was checking. Thanks, Terry. I really like that they have these checks put into their install effort, made me feel good about choosing this company. Eddie called me back today to verify things were going well, and to follow up about an expansion port he had ordered for me but wasn't in yet (For my EDGE thermostat). He was pleased I was happy with the job. I made the best choice in Butler, and will go to them again and again. Eddie alone made the experience worth it, putting in extra time to help me - even meeting me at a coffee house before work to sign the papers. Thank you Butler, I am VERY happy with my install. Note - total investment after all credits will be $5,400.
Description of Work: After my AC went out, I called 5 companies for new system quotes. I chose Butler to perform this task. My salesperson, Eddie, was wonderful, he was fun and easy to talk to. They went through everything with me. The install was slated to take up to 2 days, but was finished in one day, and the AC was pure bliss.

While I liked him and felt good about the products, it came down to price. Another company quoted an identical system for $800.00 less. Also, I did not care for the company's gimmick of giving you a $1500 discount (matching the gov. tax rebate) as it was an illusion...their price started $1500 higher to begin with...
Description of Work: I wanted an estimate for a high efficiency furnace and AC unit with a programable thermostat. The salesman was very nice, polite and informative. He provided an array of options, spoke knowledgeably and seemed practical in his suggestions. He did not push the most expensive options, without reasonable explanations.

The price quoted for the furnace was competitive with two other bids received. The Butler sales rep had the idea to rotate the furnace 90 degrees and relocate an adjacent water heater so as to greatly improve accessabilty for maintenance. Neither other bidder was as creative. The work actually began a day earlier than had been expected (a pleasant surprise when without heat). The installation work went smoothly; the Butler crew were efficient, very protective of the surrounding area, very clean in their work, and quite polite. When the furnace was first started there was a problem of excessive burner noise. Butler responded quickly. and, working with Amana, solved the problem in a few days. Overall, my experience with the company has been toally positive. I highly recommend them.

A/C stopped and I thought it was the capacitor, but then not sure since it didn't keep going when I kick started it w/ a stick. So I called Butler from rec's on Angie's list. The service guy was friendly and knowledgeable. Odd though was that they wanted to charge me $60 + the cost to install (another 30 some dollars they charge per quarter hour) versus what I knew I could a simple capacitor at a local supply house for $14. I guess they have to make money somehow. The guy was very nice about it though. He only charged me the $79 (base cost just to come out...not they did not tell me this over the phone, but I figured it is what it is). I'll buy the $14 capacitor and save myself the $60 or so difference. Hopefully this really is the problem or I'll be paying another $79 for them to come out again. lol
Description of Work: Evalutated the problem, provided an estimate.

I called for an estimate and they were able to come out within a couple of days. Since cost was one of my concerns, they discussed a number of options and were very helpful in advising the location of various elements such as the relief grille. Since they were able to use my furnace ducting there was no need for any more. The estimate was pretty close to the final cost. They scheduled the installation around MY schedule and took care of all the permits, etc. An independent electrician was required due to Dayton regs and they took care of that, too. The day of the installation was punctual and professional and the comings and goings of various workers was as unobtrusive as possible. There was great care to keep things clean. They followed up on the city inspection when it was found that the door to the newly installed breaker box was broken and fixed it immediately. I couldn't ask for a better experience.

I picked Butler based on Angie's list reviews and comments. I expected punctuality and thoroughness and they definitely lived up to expectations. Butler had a technician to our house in 24 hours from the time I called even though it wasn't an emergency so much as we had enough of high electric bills. The technician was very professional and completely looked over our system and made recommendations on what we could do to improve our comfort. He took the time to answer all our questions thoroughly and with details we had not gotten from previous vendors.

The A/C went out on a Friday night. Called Butler Monday AM and they were on the job Tuesday. Quick response with no hassle.
Description of Work: A/C compressor stopped working. On a 14 year old machine we feared the worst. Turned out a cable had come loose blocking the compressor fan. When the unit tried to run this caused the high pressure switch to kick out. The technician diagnosed the problem and reset the switch. Sure beat needing a new compressor! After the unit was running a test showed it needed additional coolant. It cools great now.

After consulting Angie?s List and getting several quotes, we settled on ?Butler Heating & Air Conditioning. Everything went smoothly from Keith suggesting the best fit units, to his quote, and to the two long days of installation by Kurt and Wade. There were no surprise added costs. Everything was explained to me as the installation progressed and they did not object to my hanging around. We are very pleased and will recommend Butler H&AC without reservation.

Service tech came and inspected where leak was. Showed me with camera where dirt was built up, not allowing water to drain. Explained to me that there was no warranty to cleaning the coil. That the unit could fail later since it was older. Gave me an estimate for both cleaning and replacing of coil. We decided to go with cheaper method hoping that would cure the problem and serve us for a while. Cleaning was done. Problem was solved within 2 hours.

Our old furnace went out on the Saturday before Thanksgiving week. We called another company who thoroughly diagnosed the death(they had a feed camera they could show me the actual cracks)and got the original quote from them. Due to the cost, we wanted a 2nd opinion. Butler came through and was about $2000 less expensive for exactly the same work. They were very thorough detailing the options available. I didn t know anything about the system, so it took a lot of patient explaining(for that much $, I wanted to understand what we were getting). Since we weren't moving any time soon, we decided to replace the entire system(furnace and A/C-it was old too), add a humidifier, get the ducts cleaned, and move to a heat pump system. None of the additional options or model was a hard sell. They even suggested ways to save money. Because this was over the Thanksgiving holiday week, they had to rotate a lot of guys through to complete the job, but they were always punctual, professional, and explained everything they were doing. We are pleased with a more consistent level of heat throughout the house and the vents aren't as hot was they were before. Much more control over the temperature with a digital thermostat. It's not quieter than our old system, but maybe it's just because the sound is different that we notice it more. Note: you will get a letter after the install to get it inspected by the City. Butler got all of the correct permits, but didn't mention this last detail. It might be something you want to consider if you have to take time off work for the installation. I would highly recommend Butler's services, but as always, get at least one more quote for your own piece of mind. I used Angie's List to find Butler.
Description of Work: Replaced furnace(old & dead)the A/C(old & near death), cleaned the vents(never did this before-they say it's only really needed every 4 or 5 years), added heat pump and humidifier. DO: 1) be involved! 2) Ask a lot of questions. 3) Be available to contact for even minor decisions - placement of the units, wall holes (it vents in and out), etc. We had a couple of things that wouldn't have been "wrong" but would have been less convenient for future plans (deck, etc.) 4) Keep up with your filter swaps - it helps maintain the furnace and reduce the dust. With the holidays, I'm not sure it's possible to reduce it by all that much right now, but it SEEMS to be a little less dusty.
