Whempy's

Description of Work: Prior to Thanksgiving, we requested and scheduled service (chimney sweep and air duct cleaning) for mid-December from Whempy's. They showed up a day early for the service and, since no one was home, we had to reschedule. On the 2nd scheduled date, no service technician showed (with no call to indicate they weren't coming). | |I called the company to ask what happened and was advised that their duct cleaning truck broke down and they would reschedule after the truck was repaired. | |It's now after the middle of January and we've still had no further contact from the company. | |Previously, we were satisfied with their service and were looking to be repeat customers. That's not looking likely as this point.

Description of Work: Arrived and swept out wood burning stove with a shop vac. Used a small handheld mirror to look up the chimney and told us he could see outside so all was fine. I did not feel this was a thorough inspection, as it was described to me. I could have done this myself and saved $172.

Description of Work: I hired them for a chimney inspection while buying a home. They were easy to hire, arrived on time, and the serviceman was friendly. However, the inspection was a waste of money and time. The serviceman went into the house, used a flashlight to look up the chimney and said everything was fine. When I asked about checking the chimney cap he stated that he could see it well enough from the ground. He never even walked up close to the outside of the chimney and inspected anything. He wrote up the report from his truck. When our general home inspection was done, the inspector did a more thorough job than Whempy's (he tested the gas and climbed on the room) and honestly spent more time looking at it. I was upset, because I had spent $75 on a "professional" chimney inspection. When I called Whempy's they said that they don't go on roofs due to liability and don't check the gas (for gas fireplaces) due to liability. Basically, I paid $75 and wasted my time to have someone look up my chimney with a flashlight to see if anything looked odd. I would not use this company again.

Description of Work: Cleaned the chimney. The man cleaning the chimney was very friendly was efficient. He pointed out something for us to keep an eye on and may need future repair. They would be available to do the work when we needed it.
