Whempys was great, I got stuck in a jam when the furnace company that upgraded me to a high efficiency furnace left me with a water heater venting thru a B vent that was too big for it. Whempys gave a fair estimate based on the inspection, then gave me a call to discuss alternate options, and even gave me some insight on why the furnace company doesn't do the flue lining job themselves anymore. The guys came out right on time, gave me info as they worked, and were very professional and did a great job. Two other chimney companies were not able to get the job done, I'm very happy Whempys was able to do it, and they did it great!

I called and the gentleman who answered the phone was quite responsive to my series of questions and quasi-requests given my total lack of knowledge and experience in this arena of chimneys and fireplaces. We were able to get serviced the following day due to cancellation and were able to take advantage of a $20 online discount. The technician arrived promptly (actually earlier than) than 12-4pm window for service. He took his time explaining how things worked to my husband and cleaned the chimneys. He did note some issues that might need repair down the road but did not try to push us into additional services.
Description of Work: We moved into an older home with a questionable recent maintenance history of two fireplaces and no past experience with traditional wood burning or late model gas log fireplaces. We requested a tutorial, safety check, and chimney sweep for both.

The technician arrived at 3:45pm for a 12 to 4pm window. I had set aside my whole afternoon to wait for him. The first thing he said to me is how overworked and tired he was. I invited him and walked him to the family room. As my house is being renovated, there are building materials sitting out. The crew had put a few things in front of the fireplace (a bucket and two door slabs) that would have taken seconds to move. The technician (James) said "I don't have time for this" and walked off the job. He could not have been ruder. The construction crew was right there. It would have taken less than 30 seconds to move those items. I called the office immediately. They said that they didn't have anyone else available to come out. They promised a callback from the owner. Of course, the owner has not called. I have used Whempy's in the past but will not use them again. There's no reason for rude employees and I find it telling that the owner wasn't concerned enough to return the call.

I want disappointed in them. We had our ducts cleaned every year with Whempy's and then another company came out and they found a beer can in there. So it either came from the previous owner and we have been here for 25 years or they didn’t clean very good. Why would they be a beer can in my air ducts? They should clean the ducts better.

Whempy's inspected my chimney for leaks, and then we hired them to perform repairs. They performed the repairs, but the leaks continued. I called at least three times - October 23, 2015, November 11, 2015, and December 14, 2015 (spoke to Marie and Jean) - and asked them to return and review their work and isolate the problem. They repeatedly stated they would come out as soon as possible, but no one ever came. And they never called to explain the lack of responsiveness. The leaks continue. Will not use or again or recommend.

When scheduling the inspection I was told the distance was a little more than normal but they were slow so no problem they would go ahead and put it in the schedule. On the morning of the scheduled chimney inspection, I received a call from the company and told due to (2) workers out sick, snowy roads and distance to the job site, they would not be able to conduct the inspection scheduled for the day. When I stated that next week would be fine when weather and worker situation improved I was told "the boss said it's too far". I should have been told that at the time of scheduling.

I told them that smoke was filing the basement through thee fireplace in the basement when I'd start a fire. The propose for having them come out was to make sure everything functioned properly and if not than to fix it. The service man was nice. He did some things outside which I presumed was part of the inspection. He cleaned the chimney in my front room then went to the basement. He told me the chimney didn't need cleaned because it was a gas fireplace. He told me that if I wanted to convert it that all I had to do was remove the hardware. He then charged me for the inspection and cleaning. He said everything was intact and fine with my chimneys. I immediately removed the hardware and started a fire in the basement. The first problem, 2 dead birds (newly dead) feel out when I opened the flue (I think that's what its called). How'd he inspect it if he never opened it up and looked up the chimney? As soon as the fire was started, dense smoke filled the basement and there was a horrible odor! I called the company immediately but got no response. I left a message. Today, 12/1/2014, I called again and spoke to a rep and told him about the problem. Instead of sending someone out to complete a real inspection he started listing off reasons for smoke completely ignoring the fact that his service guy gave my chimneys a clean bill of health! He said there were 2 options for repair of the problem choosing from $225-550! This diagnoses was given by a man who'd not been to my house while his repairman either missed it completely OR ignored it for not wanting to complete the task! In addition, hestated that this was/is a common problem with these newer houses. My house was built in the mid-60's. With the fireplaces being my main source of heat my daughter and I have been freezing! Thank you Whempy's for taking advantage of me!

Chimney sweep called the night before to confirm and arrived on time. Tools included a shop vac that gathered up the loose dirt and soot. As the sun was shining through the windows we noticed a great amount of dust/soot in the air of the house. We mentioned this to the chimnys sweep who told us he noticed it to BEFORE he started his work, which was not the case. We mentioned it to him again as he proceeded and he told us it wasn't his machine causing the problem. My wife suggested he might want to hold his comments as he was making the matter worse. She advised she would be calling Whempy's, which we did. The woman there was apologetice and mentioned that sometimes the chimney sweeps don't clean their shop vacs like they should. My wife told her it would be doubtful we would use them again, tow which the replay was that if we did, she would make sure the same swwep was NOT wnet to our house. My wife just finished cleaning the dust/soot off all of our furniture, the mantel over the fireplace and the remainder of the downstairs of our house ..... and now has to do the upstairs, We will not use Whempy's again.

The guy showed up early which was nice, and he cleaned the chimney. But he seemed more concerned about leaving early for a trip, which did not give me the impression he was paying as close attention to the job as I was anticipating. He did it all (inspection and cleaning) in about 15 minutes which did not seem like it took long enough - like he was glossing over things.

They were quick and efficient. He got in and did the job. I thought the cost was reasonable. The fact that they scheduled it within a minimal amount of time. He did a good job from what I can tell. The cost was great. He was a little bit late. He walked in and smelled really strong of smoke. But he was respectful to me.

A person by the name of James who said he has been doing this for over 20 years called me when he was out there (actually on my roof) to tell me that i already had screens on my flue and a chimney cap could be put on but not necessary. Most companies would not have even bothered calling me to inform me of this but James with Whempy's did. That is top class service that you can't always find anymore these days. The next time in need something with my chimney or fireplace I won't even bother calling anyone else other than Whempy's. Thanks for the help James and Whempy's

He was on time and went right to work. He put a tarp down in front of the fireplace to prevent the carpet from getting dirty. He explained that the chimney wasn't that dirty and I could save him some work if he didn't have to do anything. When he told me it would cost $75 for him just showing up, I told him to go ahead and clean it. He did a good job cleaning out the bottom of the chimney, the gas line, and the log grate. He said he inspected the chimney for cracks or need for repairs but none.

The first job went well, I paid for the inspection and James said they would send me a letter with the estimate for a cable being reattached as well as a liner for our other fireplace. My husband and I decided to only have the cable replaced as we were going to go the route of a ventless fireplace vs the new liner. We scheduled for Monday 10/7 but I received a call that morning saying they were short staffed and they would have to move me to Wed. Then he said he was going to be hiring someone. We talked about the cable that I had here at my house and I explained what it looked like. He said we could use that same cable and just re-attach it. Wed. James came out and I told him we had decided to just have the cables as he thought he was here to do both projects. There was a problem with my cable and James would need to use a new one. He called the office and they said instead of the $49 to replace it he would be charging me a significant amount more. We went round and round, he changed his story quite a few times regarding the price. I called him out on this and he still kept tripping himself up in lies about how much things cost! I was frustrated because he had quoted me one price but is now planning on charging another. He said it was that price because originally I was going to have the liner. Now that he was coming out to do the cable it would be more. I also called him out on the cancelation from Monday as James said no one called off they just overbooked. I get the impression from all interactions that this company is very shady and not forthcoming. I am sorry to not use them again as I would really like to have James as a chimney sweep in the future.
Description of Work: James the tech was great, he came the first visit on 9/18 and performed the video inspection of our 2 chimney's he came back on 10/9 to reattach the cables to close the damper. I would highly recommend him to anyone, he was honest and talked me thru each job he was doing.

Ongoing problem since 2011. Whempy's installed bad brick insert walls and floor to my prefabricated fireplace in 2011. I paid about $800.00 at that point in time. When I took a closer look at the fireplace I noticed after the repair I noticed there where gaping holes on both sides of the floor. Common sense should have told the installer leaving gaping holes in the floor of my fireplace could cause my house to burn down when hot ashes fell through the holes!!! I called Whempys immediately and asked what kind of repair job was that....just awful. They said they'd send a repair tech out to fill the holes with some fireplace cement. I didn't have a fire in the fireplace until the following year, just one time in December 2012. I recently started to update the fireplace with new granite tiles and noticed the inside of the fireplace was filled with cracks. I called Whempy's in June of 2013 to let them know that the fireplace walls and floor were cracked after only one fire in the fireplace. They said they had other customers report this problem and that they had materials on order to fix the problem. I called every other week for three consecutive months to see if the and quot;materialsand quot; had arrived yet. Finally in September, a tech named Gene came to my house and said they needed to order separate panels that would fit the fireplace and that it needed to be fixed correctly. This was the second trip Whempys made during the run around time between June and August 2013 to take and quot;measurementsand quot; and tell me the same thing. Gene told me that it would take approximately two weeks to get the panels in......It's now NOVEMBER 20, 2013. I called Whempys mid day today and was told that there is nothing they can do for me, and I had to reiterate the whole problem all over again. I said, and quot;wowand quot; I have been really patient with you guys, and this is how you are going to treat a long time customer. I told Whempy's rep that they are going to put themselves out of business with poor shoddy work, poor shoddy products, and POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT EVEN BOTHER CALLING THIS COMPANY. I found out on my own that the original owner has passed away unfortunately, and that the owner's brother has retired. That explains what happened to this once and quot;greatand quot; company. It's a shame the new ownership is going to run the business into the ground.
