Whempy's

He came when he said he would and did what he was suppose to do. He also explained what he was doing. The work was good.

The Whempy's van was on time and gave me a lot of information which I needed about fireplace care. I felt he was not trying to sell me more than I needed. He was thorough and reasonably priced quality of work is different to judge some first time.

Excellent customer service, arrived when scheduled, brought dust cloth and own lights; left written confirmation that they were safe. And took time to explained how they were constructed/repaired and recommended use.

Unfortunately, if one has an older house, such as mine, this is not the kind of job one needs done. I can take a putty knife and scrape the dirt off the inside of the duct work. I was quite disappointed, but have only myself for not checking their website to see that they do not actually clean the ducts. They just blow them out. My suggestion for older homes, pay more and get the ducts wire brushed out.

I contacted Whempy's for an estimate on a chimney repair. There is a $65 fee that was to be applied toward any repair work. A young man showed up for the inspection, didn't say much and told me he'd send a recommendation for repair and estimate when he returned to his office. After about a week I hadn't heard anything so called to check. They informed me that the information would be coming. After calling once a week for the next six weeks, I still had nothing. Finally, I asked for a refund. I was told this was fine and they would send me a check. I hadn't received after a week or so, so called to check on it. I was told it was in the mail. I have now called once or twice a week for an additional six weeks and continue to get the message that "I'll check on it" or "I'll leave Dave a message" but have not seen a dime of my refund.

They arrived on time, were neat, and efficient.

They never came to do an inspection when they said they would and never called back. Not very professional.

Workers arrived before my 12-4 "window" which was OK with me as I was home all day anyway. They got to work immediately and had the damper installed within 30 min. Though simple to operate, the representative had me "get the feel of it" a few times before he left. The cost reflects a $10 Angie's discount. Note that work cannot be done if there is frost or snow on your roof so work may have to be rescheduled. Although we had a dusting of snow, my chimney is not in the middle of the roof so access to it was not an issue.

When I called the company I requested someone to check our chimneys for safety, adjust our Buck Stove -- it would not hold a flame, (which we brought from them a few years ago), and help us start our gas log fireplace which we had not used since we had been in the house. They said they would send someone to do these things. The technician used a small mirror to look up both chimney's and assured us they were clean. He adjusted and then returned to its original position some elements of our Buck Stove and said we should keep our outside door open some to keep the fire going. We should also check our manual. When looking at our gas log fireplace he said he could not start it. We should have a plumber look at the line and get new logs. He said, "Those logs you have are a piece of junk".

Bobby arrived on time, was professional and very neat. He answered our questions and explained various aspects of the fireplace and damper. He was very helpful.

Bobby noted that our entertainment center needed to be moved a few more inches out from the cold-air return behind it. He thoroughly cleaned the very dirty return. There is noticeably less dust in the house after having the air duct cleaning. He also cleaned out the inside of our furnace.

Whempys was great. They were friendly on the phone. I got an appointment very quickly. The service guy showed up exactly on time. I was supposed to have the fireplace cleaned since we have only lived in the house for a year and didn't know how dirty the fireplace was from the previous owners. After inspecting it, inside and out, the guy told us the fireplace was in good shape, probably only used five times. It did not need to be cleaned so instead of paying the $119 for cleaning, we paid only $65 for the inspection. It was well worth it for the peace of mind.

Arrived on time, completed work efficiently, was careful not to leave a mess for either fireplace area.

It went well. The guys were really nice and the price was fair. They arrived on time and called ahead to let me know when they were about 20 minutes away. This is important because it's really annoying wasting your whole day waiting for a contractor to come to the house. They were helpful in explaining how the systems works and, to my surprise, said that everything was in great working order, and didn't need any repairs. Just maintainance. They cleaned a few extra vents for free that I forgot to count when I made the appointment. I would use this company again.

I recently moved into a house where the fireplace hadn't been used in 10-15 years. The front of it was quite dirty, so I figured I needed to have the chimney swept. I have used Whempy's several times in the past, so I scheduled an appointment. I requested someone call me when they were on their way, because I would be away during the scheduled visit. About 1 1/2 hours before they were scheduled they called to see if they could come early! Upon inspection of the chimney, it was clean as a whistle and just needed vacuuming at the screen opening. I was getting the previous customer rate, but since he didn't do the chimney sweep, I was just charged for inspection, around $60. The young man climbed onto the roof and let me know the flashing around the chimney needs to be resealed. I would recommend them to everyone. They have done chimney sweeps for me in the past and are always on time, and neat with their work inside the home.

The service man arrived right on time and provided excellent service and suggestions. Basically explained clearly the proper operation. I was very pleased and will use them in the future.

The chimney only needed an inspection and not cleaning.

The tech arrived looking like terrible (very dirty, ripped uniform that looked like he'd slept in it for a week) and needed a shower. Seriously, the guy stunk. He tracked leaves and dirt all over the house. He began by explaining that Whempy's ONLY cleans the cold air returns. He did NOTHING with the rest of the registers and ducts. To "clean" the cold air returns he hooked up a negative air pressure hose to the return duct in basement and used a paint brush to brush the biggest clumps of dust from the visible part of the inside of the return register (although he missed a bunch that then subsequently fell onto our floors). He did NOT clean the register covers themselves which then spilled more dirt onto our floors. He then brought in a leaf-blower (I'm not kidding) with a three foot hose attached to it, inserted it about a foot into the duct, and "blew" it for about ten seconds. That's it. He did nothing else. It was a total waste of time and our money. BUYER BEWARE!

The technician was prompt, knowledgeable, and courteous. He inspected and cleaned up the fireplace.

Great. Whempeys had also inspected the chimney after we made an offer on the house. We made most of our arrangements with them from long distance, since we had not yet moved, and they were great to work with.

Whempy's has provided good service to us in the past so we wanted to use the service as we moved in to our new home. The service was paid for by the previous owner of the home at our request.

Showed up on time, did the work, were neat and cordial - offered suggestions and advise, could not ask for nicer or more professional associates.

He came as promised, carefully took the fireplace apart, then offered to clean the glass himself. It smeared, so he asked for windex and paper towels and did his best to get rid of the smears. He was also careful not to smudge the glass with his fingerprints when reassembling it. Very friendly.
