Whempy's

The gentleman who answered the phone (I believe his name was Gene) answered all of my questions -- and determined that we didn't need his services for either sweeping *OR* repair. Now that's customer service.

The chimney was fine. The price seemed ridiculous.

They were right on time even though the weather was bad that day and there were a few inches of snow on the ground. They were both very friendly and did not push any unnecessary services. The night of the appointment, we were able to have our first fire in 4 years!

Last week we tried our fireplace for the first time since the pipe replacement. The pipe obviously does not fit the application. The flames are to the left of the logs and consequently of little use in trying to catch the logs on fire. We called Whempy's and they sent a technician out who said that was normal - that his was the best that could be done. He even turned the pipe holes to the back of the fireplace where they certainly would be of no use in starting the dry logs on fire. The technician was of no help, was in fact rude, and offered nothing in the way of a solution. He left the pipe as is. When I called Whempy's to explain, I was told that it is what it is - nothing could be done to correct the situation. Had I known that was the best they could offer, I certainly would not have spent the money in the Spring to have the pipe replaced. I would have lived with the old one which in fact is better than this one.

Very good. Prompt, clean, no pressure. Also called the night before to verify appointment, that added to their good service.

They arrived on time and performed the work quickly. There was little to no evidence that they had been there...just that the chimney was now clean.

They scheduled 3 weeks in advance, and on the day that they were to come out they had 2 earlier jobs scheduled. They didn't get to us that day, and put us back to the bottom of the contact list. Some work involved mortar, so it would have to be above 50 degrees. We basically were to wait for the next opening, and they finally made it out. It took several attempts.

He was just standing on the ground looking up at my chimney, he did not physically climb up to the crown to inspect it. I was uncomfortable with his comments on another company's work. I was not given a specific time for him to show up. He may have been trying to protect my interests, but how am I supposed to know who to believe.

We called Whempy's based on Angie's List reports and got an appointment within a few days. Showed up a little earlier than expected, but luckily my husband was home that day. No problems. Seemed courteous from the initial contact. Would use them in future.

I have used this company several times, in the past. The work they do is OK. They seem to know what is needed and how to do it. He put down drop cloths to protect the carpet. I had a question concerning the billing and contacted the company on 3 separate occasions, with no response. They charged me for 15 duct vents (I only have 10 in the whole house). They charged $65.00 for a 10 second look up the fireplace chimney which just seems a bit excessive, to me.

Last year I had my chimney cleaned by another company and the service person gave me a long list of expensive repairs he said I should have done. I had Whempy's come out for a second opinion. James examined the fireplace, chimney, damper, etc and said there was nothing that required that type of work. He was personable and candid.

Very professional, fast and neat. Inspected and cleaned chimney.

The gentleman was prompt (actually early) and looked at the chimney and said we didn't need it cleaned. He was in my home for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. I thought I was charged too much for him to tell us that we didn't need our chimney cleaned. We understand travel time but I think this charge was excessive.

I set up the appointment; they were set to come between 9 am and 12 pm. I called him back after 12 pm and he said he couldn't get down my street. There is some minor road construction but I have had 3 painters and several other contractors here giving an estimate. He said he would give me a call back but after one hour I called him and the person who answered the phone said he was at another work site and that he would not be able to make it today. They just did not seem to have any concern for the customer at all.

The woman I talked to on the phone was very friendly and helpful. We arranged a date for the cleaning and they were very punctual. The sweep did a good job and left the house very clean. He did give me an estimate on the insert and some other minor chimney repairs. Only downfall (if you could call it that) was that he was somewhat shy and didn't offer information very easily. It was like pulling teeth to get more information from him or when I would ask a question. He could definitely work more on his PR, however, it shouldn't detract from the good work he did.

Was very pleased with both dealings with Whempy's. The people I spoke with on the phone were very polite. The guy who came to inspect and install the gas logs called to confirm our appointments the night before and again the next day before he came. The guy who inspected the fireplace was very courteous and did a terrific job of not getting any dirt on the carpet. When he installed the unvented gas log heater, same thing. He removed the old logs with no mess. He also did an excellent job in showing us how to use the fireplace and heater. While at the store, the guy did a wonderful job explaining about our prefab fireplace and why we probably couldn't get a better fit if trying to replace it. Likewise with his demo of an unvented gas log heater which made us decide to buy that. Appreciate the honesty and professionalism!

I was very pleased with the work. I called Whempy's after a first opinion from Blackburn's. Blackburn's cleaned the chimney and stated that I had a chimney fire and needed a stainless steel liner. I was surprised at the diagnoses given that we have our chimney cleaned annually. I called Whempy's and they provided a free estimate to repair the chimney. Whempy's was willing to complete the basic repairs that my masonry chimney required.

They had to come out twice because the first time the ground was too soft and they couldn't bring the truck in and they didn't charge me extra. There aren't many people who clean an oil furnace. They did the job.

They responded immediately to my call and sent an inspector out the very next day. He found a minor problem and Whempy's wrote the next day detailing what needed to be done. They scheduled the repair for the day after I called them, and arrived when they had promised. All in all, they were very courteous and very prompt.

They came out, were on time and were very professional. They were excellent, and the second person that came out was on time as well and courtesy.

Whempy's was available right away, did a good job and recommended and followed up on other helpful services without being pushy. The person who cleaned my chimney removed a grate that was not appropriate for use in a fireplace that the prior owner had left (it was actually some kind of magazine rack) and gave me one I could use that he had in his truck. He didn't clean up completely around the chimney, but it was not a problem. He was very nice and helpful and answered my questions.

They did a good job and i would use them again.

Everything was fine. I thought their prices were fine.

It went very well. I was able to schedule the work only a few days in advance. The gentlemen who performed the work were knowledgeable and fast. Also, they were clean - they didn't leave any trace that they were ever there. I will have them come every year.

They were prompt, courteous, professional and did good work.
