Whempy's

I've noticed a considerable difference in our air quality and dust since then. It was a quick and simple procedure with the process they used. They also stated to call if we didn't notice a difference...but we noticed.

We had used Whempy's chimney sweep services last year after moving into our new house and were generally pleased with their services. This year we decided we trusted the company's judgment again and called for their recommendations on chimney cleanings. The receptionist informed me they recommend cleaning after every cord of wood, which could take 2-3 years depending on how much wood you burn and then just a yearly inspection. Trusting the company after last years positive visit, I took their recommendation and scheduled an appointment for an inspection. On the day of the inspection, the inspector actually arrived over 20 minutes earlier than the 12-4:00 window they had told me on the phone. He seemed annoyed that he had not gotten an answer at the door right away after ringing the doorbell several times, despite being much earlier than the scheduled appointment. I had worked nights the evening before and was counting on that time window to be accurate to coincide with my sleep schedule. The actual "inspection" was a complete fraud. He leaned into my fireplace with a flashlight and told me it could probably use a cleaning. That was it. When I questioned the actual inspection, he complained he had been sitting in my driveway already long enough to have "inspected" the outside. The inspector informed me that he wishes the office would get rid of this service option, yet still took my payment anyway. After he left, I immediately called the office and told them about this ridiculous and fraudulent visit. I was told they would submit a service report. I am highly disappointed with Whempy's. I think they took advantage of me as a customer just to get an appointment out of me. A professional business should also be looking out for their customer's best interests, not just another check to cash into their bank account. The fact that they knew this was a fraudulent appointment and still scheduled it anyway should show everyone the integrity of this business. I think Whempy's is a complete fraud and I want my money back. I do not plan to ever use their services again.

It was OK. The technician was very prompt and friendly and I appreciated that they scheduled Saturday appointments. It was clear that he was there to clean only, that there would be no inspection of the cap or anything else. Within a couple minutes of beginning, he had run into a snag. There was a dead squirrel stuck between two bricks about 1/3 of the way up the chimney. He worked and worked but was unable to get the squirrel loose.He proceeded to clean the chimney but in the end, we still had a dead squirrel stuck in our chimney. He did try though.

We planned to use Whempy's for the chimney/fireplace work in our new home. We are using a rehab loan, so there was some paperwork that needed filled out. We are using 5 other contractors, all of whom had the paperwork returned to us in less than one week. Whempy's had the paperwork for over one month. After numerous phone calls (one from my mortgage person) and a visit to the office, we switched to another company that contacted us right away. If they didn't want to deal with the paperwork of a rehab loan, they should have told us instead of holding up my loan approval. I will never use them again.

The girl on the phone was very helpful, they set us up for service very quickly and the gentleman who came out did a good job. He not only did the work, but he gave us information on things that would improve our fireplace.

Very professional. Will use again.

He was on time and was congenial. He worked efficiently and took the time to point out a few things that I needed to take care of on our chimney.

I didn't have a chimney fire so I guess they did okay, they didn't leave any messes, they cleaned up after themselves, they were very good to me, they had pretty fair prices.

I had Whempy's come to my home to do a general chimney sweep and some basic maintenance. The workers showed up on time as set, even calling to make sure I could be there to let them in. The work was of sound quality and I am planning on using them again.

They looked at it, did not knock on the door and then left. They said I had an odd sized cap and had to order it. When they came out, they asked my wife to hold the ladder. They did not seem very professional but the price was good and the cap looked good.

Great job. Very patient and explained how it works carefully. He checked the chimney.

The service was very through and appeared to be very good. He did some things that repair people had never done before and patched leaks.

9-25-07: came out to give an estimate on repairing outside of chimney, fireplace and liner to chimney. Asked for estimate to be sent to my home address in the mail. After multiple phone calls (4) over several months and a promise of a refund for the cost of the estimate, we still have not received an estimate or a refund check as of April 16, 2008. The estimate was to have been applied to any work for which we contracted. I would not contract with this company. The response is unacceptable.

Worker was prompt, courteous, answered all my questions, and gave recommendations on how to cut down the ash smell. When he was done there was no sign he was ever there except for a clean chimney.

The service was very good, very professional, kept everything neat and clean. Got the job done within an hour.

The men arrived the Monday after the big snow storm. No one had cleared the driveway so they made a path to the garage door so that they could do the work. When they got in, they surveyed the house and started work. They were done in about an hour. I had also called them about cleaning (sweeping) the two fireplaces. They told me that there was no need to sweep the fireplaces, which saved me some money. The men were very thorough and cleaned up after themselves. They left me a bill. Two days later I received an amended bill with the 10% discount.

I never have any problems with them. No complaints. I will and have used them again.

Second time we have used these folks. Great job and service at reasonable price. Quick, on time, and left the house clean.

When the service tech came out he said the chimney was not in bad shape. He said he would do an inspection and then he would clean it if it need necessary. He mentioned that it wasn't that bad but cleaned but did it anyway. If it wasn't that bad I would have preferred not to of had it cleaned. He did come out a little early to suite his schedule which put me in a little bind.

We just moved into a new house, had the chimney inspected by Whempy's. He said the Chimney didn't need cleaned but he noticed some moisture in the brick inside the house near the fireplace. He inspected the outside of the chimney and determined that we had some water leaking in along the shoulders of the chimney. We scheduled an appointment and they came back in about 2 months and added morter to the shoulders and added flashing where the roof meets the chimney. I inspected it afterward and it looked like both the flashing and shoulder work were done in a quality way. It also looks like they covered their morter with some type of waterproofing material. I also asked a bunch of (stupid) questions about my new fireplace, like "What is that vent for?", and the Whempy's guy patiently answered all of my questions and gave me recommendations on maintaining my fireplace. I was very happy with their work and professionalism.

They were great. He was prompt and honest.

We contracted with Whempys on Oct. 19th, via phone, after they came out to inspect our chimney, which needed repair. I was aware that they might come while I was not at the house, but they would bill me. Several weeks later, after not receiving the bill, I called. The lady who answered said that she had just sent bills out and ours was one of them. After another week, I called again saying I never got the bill. I was told they couldn't find my work order. Then they said the problem was their masonery guy had hurt himself on the job, putting him behind in his work, but they would be out the next week. Again several weeks passed, as I tried to be understanding. But I called today and they said the work still hasn't been done, 9 weeks from when I contracted with them! This time they said the weather gets too cold in October and November to do the work, not that they ever mentioned this before. They never called in 9 weeks to explain anything. I cancelled our work order with them!

They were great. They were on time and everything went well.
