Description of Work: I have 3 big elm trees and they had to get up to secure it with metal lines so they wouldn't snap off if a wind came through. They also cut out all the dead parts of the trees and put a fertilizer so they would grow better.

+ -1 moreThey are okay. I think they have a very good reputation. They are not cheap by any means but they seem to know what they are doing. In the case of felling a couple of trees and taking care of some of the trees on our property, it was probably more important to me than the price issue. We have a sort of standing order with them.
Description of Work: They provide services on a continuous basis. They fertilize trees, they do a correlation and they are doing some special work on a couple of trees that have problems. Its been a number of different things.

+ -1 moreIt was $175 for the stumps and $600 for the trees. They were efficient and timely. They came to the door and talked to us before they did anything. Their pricing was pretty competitive and right in there. They were clean. They were great. The price was fair.
Description of Work: They took out two trees and then came back and took out the stumps. They did the trees 12 days ago and the stumps 8 days ago.

+ 1 moreOur River Birch in front of house had grown a limb that was touching the house now and other trees needed to be inspected and trimmed. First called to make an appointment and was told that the Arborist would come to the house sometime the next week. I didn't have to be at home but I was. He was very informative on what needed to be trimmed from the trees to keep them healthy plus to have them fertilized this fall. He marked the limbs with a pink "ribbon" and said their crew would be out sometime to do the work. Again didn't have to be home when they came back. They arrived this afternoon and did come to the door. Very friendly and personable. Asked if I had any questions and what I expected they were going to do today...just to make sure it matched their work order, also was told if I had any questions to come out during their work and ask. Was a crew of 4 men and probably took them 40 minutes at the max. All tree limbs were cleaned up nicely and taken away as was told. What a big difference in the how the trees look now. Workers came to the door when they were finished and asked how things looked to me. Definitely will use their services again.
Description of Work: Removed branches from 2 trees and trimmed up the 5 trees on our property.

+ 1 moreThere was a tree above a networing cable crossing over the yard of a home I help coordinate repairs on. It needed several limbs removed. The reason the positioning of the tree & "networking cables" presented an issue was, because the tree could fall over on them causing my neighbor to be without service. The Davey appraiser quoting some work that was needing to be completed neighbors home with this problem I approached them to ask if Davey would be willing to remove the possible hazard? After there was an agreement on more substantial work on the premises to consider the crew to be " fufilling a work order" I was told three or four limbs would be needing removed and this included deploying a " cherry picker" truck to reach over the side of the house to get adequate clearance for the work to be safely done. The next week I was contacted by the appraiser by phone and was told that they were going to need a verbal aggreement in order to perform the work necessary within 48hours. I agreed to this attempt to solve the potentially dangerous problem existing on the property!!! This occurred in April of 2013. The work didn't fuly recieve attention until June! Then after a few situations preventing the work to be completed - May : Cars parked the wrong direction immediatley infromt of the home on the day scheduled to work was to be performed on the home. & Unexplained - costly delays to the homeowner - due to the cherry picker not being accessable early arrival of crew on a failed attempt that resulted in another delay due to homeowner not being present and the work not permitted Later- I was called again as to the reaons for the delay. At that time asked for a reconsideration of the extent of work needing completed! A price I explicitly wanted removed that applied to a cherry picker being dispatched to complete the work necessary to complete the job was still on the invoice even after the work eventually was completed in June, almost a day to the 90 day maximum work limit. As requested by the homeowner to minimize the expenses on their home for the removal- the crew was not required to haul off any of the wood and the tree trunck was not removed just "topped off". Total amount Davey has been pursuant of is $600+ - after a $250 balance adjustment/payment was remitted .

This is the third time that the provider has completely no-showed on me without contact. Obviously can't keep appointments. Obviously does not respect customers. Yet another 2 hours of my day completely wasted.

+ -1 moreDavey was quite responsive to my inquiry on Angie's List. I was given a two hour window for an estimate the following day (12:00 to 2:00). I work approximately 35 minutes from home, but I accepted their timeframe. I got home today prior to the appointment. I waited from 12:00 until a few minutes after 2:00. A few minutes after 2:00, the estimator called to tell me he was not going to make it by 2:00. He stated that the secretary had booked 16 appointments for him that day and that was too many. He offered to be there by 3:30 or 4:00. He also offered to call the office and have them reschedule me. I had a meeting with my supervisor in the afternoon so, I could not wait any longer. My supervisor was going to be out of the office for the rest of the week. My frustration is that at 8:00 in the morning, it should have been clear that 16 appointments was too many. He should have called at that time. If not in the morning, it should have been clear as early as noon, or even one o'clock, that he was not going to make it to my home by 2:00. But, instead, I got a call after I had driven 35 minutes, and waited beyond the 2 hour timeframe. If he could have called me earlier, then I could have made some adjustments. I am frustrated by Davey wasting my time.

Work crew said somebody would be back later to grind out stump. That never happened. When we checked, we were told that stump removal was not included in the estimate. Not unhappy with the quality of the work -- just the quality of communications.

+ -1 moreWeather was a factor initially as we had a lot of rain and our back yard was flooded. This pushed back the service a bit but it was no fault of the contractors. Although we were away while much of the work was done, the one time I did encounter the contractors they were professional and courteous. It did take a while to get the stumps ground and our fence put back together, but in fairness, weather was a factor during the entire project. We would hire this contractor again as we were very satisfied with their work overall.
Description of Work: We had several dead ash trees removed including stump grinding and we also had some old stumps ground as well.

+ -1 moreI was extremely pleased with Davey Tree Service. Their price was competitive with other qualified providers. They performed the work within a few days of giving me an estimate. It only took the crew an hour to cut down the trees in segments using a crane, bucket truck and chipper. And then they spent another half hour cleaning up the fallen twigs, my lawn, my driveway and the entire tree where their trucks had been parked. They even fluffed up the grass where the crane truck's support beam had been sitting.
Description of Work: Davey removed two 40-50 foot tall dead ash trees.

+ 3 moreWent extremely well. The guys really know what they are doing. Professional & friendly. Brought in the heavy equipment, bucket truck & mulcher with truck. Sensitive to my driveway & yard. Clean up was exceptional. Stacked wood, mulched branches, dumped mulch, raked, & used blower to clean up sawdust. Not a leaf or twig for me to clean up!!! Will definitely be calling back this winter to do more work. I hate the Emerald Ash Borer!!!!

+ -1 moreThis was a very dangerous job because of how large the tree was and how close it was to my home. There were also live electrical wires that were running through the tree which made the job very difficult. One of my requirements was that they would not mess up mine or my neighbors lawn which they did a great job. Steve the man that came out did a fantastic job. His crew members Kyle, Dave, George, and Matt were very professional and worked great together as a team. I could not be happier with the outcome of the service. When it comes to big and dangerous jobs this is the only company that I would trust going to. I would highly recommend using this company. Kirk came out to remove the stump with James and Tim and they also did a remarkable job. They were very thorough as well as professional. I could not be more pleased with the end result.

+ -1 moreSomeone from Davey came out to give me an estimate within a day of contacting them. The estimate was the best of 3 I received. The tree removal team arrived on time. They spoke with me before starting the tree removal and explained what was going to be done. They came with 3 fully equipped trucks. They laid plywood to protect the grass. Removal of 2 large oaks took approximately 2.5 hours including cleanup. They did an excellent job of cleaning up after removing the trees. Approximately a week later another crew removed the stumps and restored the areas and seeded with new grass. The crews were very courteous and efficient. would definitely recommend Davey for tree removal to anyone.
Description of Work: Removed 2 dead oak trees and stumps. Leveled area where trees stood and seeded with new grass.

+ -1 moreThey were here three days and at the end of each day you wouldn't have even known they were here. They cleaned up and swept each day. All of the workers were very professional. They offered to chop the pieces into firewood, but we declined. We didn't compare prices, but I would assume they are on the higher end. They came highly recommended so we trusted that. When I called them, they didn't initially get back to me because the guy who services our area was out of town. When I called the second time, I got the district manager or supervisor who came out the next day and work was scheduled within a few weeks.
Description of Work: They removed about 10-14 dead or dying trees from our property, several Ash and other hardwood trees. Some of the trees were difficult to get to and remove. They took a look around our yard and made suggestions too.

Before proceeding, they asked me for permission to remove some vegetation near the base of the trees. They worked quickly and completely removed both trees while avoiding damage to other nearby trees and shrubs. They did an excellent job of cleanup when they were finished. I am entirely satisfied with the work.

+ -1 moreThey came out for a consultation to examine the trees and confirm the Emerald Ash Borer infestation, it was determined that the infestation was advanced and the trees could not be saved. We live in a residential area, the trees were located in our front yard very close to the house so we made the difficult decision to have them taken down to stumps no more than 6" from the ground. We scheduled the appointment and arranged for the work to take place while we were at work. They arrived on time and were professional and curteous. Due to the size of the trees there were at least 3 vehicles, with a team of 4 individuals. One of the trucks had to be positioned on our lawn and they were very considerate, laying sheet of plywood down under the tires so as not to tear up our yard. They removed the high limbs by securing them, using a chainsaw and then lowering the limbs to the ground. There was no danger of branches coming down on our house or damaging neighbors' property. At several points they had to temporarily stop traffic on our street in order to ensure the safety of passing cars. The limbs were mulched on-site, they brought a flatbed to haul away the trunk, and our street, driveway and yard were all cleaned up and left in the condition they were found. Unbeknownst to us, one of the trees previously had a rot issue and the trunk had been filled in the center with cement. When they tried to use chainsaws to remove that section of the trunk, the blades on 2 of their chainsaw blades were damaged. The team stayed on-site to trouble shoot the problem until the trunk was removed. Although I am sure it was frustrating and costly, the team was professional and our original quote was honored.
