Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

They would not quote a price over the phone. When the drain technician arrived, he then told my son that the service call would be $209.00. He had the drain uclogged in less than 30 minutes. Initially, I spoke with Richard Hanson, the field training manager, I found him to be very rude. When I asked for his name and title, he asked if I wanted his social security number as well. I spoke to the general manager, Ron Degner, about the high price for such a limited amount of work and asked why they did not tell us this on the phone. If we had known this we never would have called them. When I mentioned making a report about this on Angie's List he offered me a 20% discount not to do so. When I said I felt that I still needed to report this issue, he withdrew the offer.

They were very competent & came quickly. They were a little pricey, but I had to have the work done before big rain came.

The man who came out was very clean, very professional and very polite. He was able to unclog the drain perfectly I would highly recommend them.

It was well over their estimated time and budget. They had to come out a couple of times and take care of some issues because our gas company wouldn't turn the gas on due to some things that they neglected to do. It was 3 days but it felt like forever.

(1) My sewer pipes backed up in my basement, and I called Roto Rooter to send someone to snake or clean out the pipes. I was generally pretty happy with the promptness of their response and with the work that the technician did (his name was Ray). He took nearly two hours and was very thorough in getting the roots out. Luckily, they did not charge by the hour. The $318 price was pretty reasonable-especially given the nastiness of the work involved. My only complaint is that the dispatcher did not disclose to me that there was an additional $30 after-hours charge. It was not an emergency, and had I been told ahead of time, I could have scheduled the appointment during regular hours to avoid the fee. Fortunately, Ray was understanding and waived the charge. (2) After cleaning out the pipes, Roto Rooter sent a field supervisor with a camera to make sure that everything was clear. What his real purpose was, though, was to find "problems" with the pipes and to scare me into believing that my pipes needed extensive repair work. He pointed to a place where there was standing water in the pipes as an indication of "pipe failure" and estimated that it would take $3700 to $10,000 to repair. The cheaper option was for replacing the pipe in that spot, which would include excavation through a concrete sidewalk and digging through my yard. The $10,000 estimate was for replacing the entire pipe system. When I asked if I had any other alternatives, he answered with a categorical, "No - you have no other options." And he also tried to convince me that fixing the entire system would add to the selling value of my house. I was skeptical, so I got another opinion from another company who also sent a camera through my pipes. This plumbing company also saw the standing water, but advised that unless something backs up again, nothing needed repair for now. And they also gave me a video tape of their work. I had asked Roto Rooter if they could produce a video tape of their camera work. They didn't record the first session but told me that they would get back to me to schedule an appointment to make a video tape. They never returned my call. I also spoke to a real estate agent and asked whether there was any merit to Roto Rooter's adamant opinion that I could recoup the $10,000 in repairs when I sell my house. The answer-nope. My conclusion - I would give Roto Rooter's sewer cleaning service an "A." But be careful about using them for larger projects. Don't let them rush you into doing anything drastic and be sure to get estimates from other companies. It was this experience with Roto Rooter that convinced me to become a member of Angie's List.

Called for a free estimate to fix a clogged kitchen drain that I was unable to fix myself. I was able to schedule an apt. when it was convenient for me. They used 2 hour blocks of time to schedule your apt., unlike other companies that use up to 5 hour blocks. The plumber (Delmon #32-1125) arrived on time and was professional and friendly. He checked under the kitchen sink and then in the basement to see if the pipe was leaking. After agreeing on a price, he took apart the pipes, which were in a very awkward place and used a snake to clear the drain. He cleaned up well after himself and was careful to wear covers over his shoes whenever he was on my carpet. Afterwards, he rechecked the basement and spent a couple minutes flushing the drain to make sure everything was working properly again. I was very happy with the experience.

We got someone out within two hours of our phone call as we had water leaking out of the underneath of our toilet. After removing the toilet, the tech showed us that the drain was completely clogged. He cleaned it out within an hour and was very helpful! He saved our floor!

They responded very quickly and got the job done. The technician also suggested that we needed a rebuild on the insides of the toilet at about $300.00. I was not sure that this was a very good price and did not have it done. He was very polite and did not try to talk me into doing the work. I appreciated that.

Our toilet hadn't been flushing properly on and off for a couple weeks. We called Roto Rooter and they said they had a plumber in the area who could be here shortly. They mentioned it wouldn't cost anything to have someone come by to diagnose the problem. Within a half hour, we had someone here. They had a look and told us that it would cost $155 to auger the toilet. The work was done in about 20 minutes. The plumber was friendly and very knowledgeable. He gave us advice on plumbing in older homes.

They've come out to my house three times. They were always polite, did the job, and never made a mess. I am very pleased with them. I never had to clean up after them.

Their quote was much higher than anyone and they never got the job done. I do not want them to finish the job. I am going to get someone else to finish the job. They charged the full price even though they weren't able to finish the job.

It was very good. The guy was extremely nice and he showed me what was going on. The price he quoted was what he actually charged me. I highly recommend their service.

The price was in line with other companies.

They were great. We had just bought our house and they gave us an estimate for the things we really needed done. They saved us $1000 by letting us know which repairs really needed to be done and which we could do ourselves. I really appreciated their honesty.

Flushmate pressure-assisted toilet, about 12 years old, failing to clear bowl on flushing. Handyman previously contacted not comfortable working on this type of toilet. Troubleshooted with manufacturing customer service rep by phone, manufacturer sent some replacement parts. Manufacturer only listed this Roto-Rooter in Columbus to service this toilet. Roto-Rooter had plumber available when I called to make an appointment. Described customer services recommendations, plumber really thought problem was something different and augured the bowl. Performance was no better. Plumber replaced part suggested by customer service, toilet back to normal performance. Asked if plumber would quote on replacing faucet set, which previously had work done, but constantly drips slowly. Quote accepted. He went to get pipe and miscellaneous parts; I had new faucet set already. Old set was massively deteriorated. Plumber asked before cutting part of the plumbing wall open to remove and replace pipe to show

Three months later I'm not having any problems.

They are little pricey, but they do a great job, their clean up is just average.

They replaced the whole toilet. They were late, had given an estimate over the phone for $50 and charged much, much more. The work was fine, but they misrepresented the situation.

They did good work with excellent service. They went above and beyond to help get the sink we were looking for.

I've had them come out for all of my plumbing jobs. They came out the same afternoon that I called. I haven't had any problems since they came out.

Not too bad. First experience with Roto-Rooter in Columbus. Tech was polite and competent, as I found all RR techs to be in North Carolina. I feel that the rates for RR in Columbus were well overdone. I will hesitate to use them in the future for this very reason, and will be sure to use Angie's list and other references as we get to know this market better.

They removed the clog, but assured me that there was no leak and that the toilet did not need to be replaced. I had a supervisor come out and he confirmed that there was a leak, so I had the toilet replaced, by someone else.

They always are very responsive. They come out right away and do a great job. I will continue to use them for my plumbing needs.

Work was done within days of service request. Job was supposed to take two men about a half-day, but mis-communications with the city water division in regard to the proper meter and meter yoke to use resulted in delays which took up the whole day. But Scott was persistent in getting the confusion with the water department straightened out, as well as getting the city to find the street-side water shut-off valve which was buried under dirt and grass. Scott and Lloyd also hooked up the washing machine in the basement without being asked, and at no extra charge.

Very bad, well over estimate and did not finish job. Worker did not know what or how to complete.
