I used them every time I got something wrong. They were very good, recently I have called them back to get a price in what they can do and the price gone up maybe because of the pandemic but they were very nice and professional. I would highly recommend them.

Here is a copy of my complaint to Roto-Rooter: RR came out on a Wednesday at noon to unclog a toilet at my mothers house. When he left, the toilet gurgled with liquid flush as if it was still partially clogged. And it continued to make gurgling noise with every flush. 31 hours after the unclog it clogged with first solid flush. Called RR the next morning i sat up an appointment to come back out. When she answered the door the service man (as she opened the screen) never introduced hisself, never said hello...nothing, but instead the first and only thing he said was "you need to understand that even tho you have a 7 day warranty, RR will not come back every other day to unclog your toilet. This will be the only time. Where is it?" 5 minutes later he came out and said for her to buy a stool stick to 85 year old mother. She asked him if it still gurgled when flushed and he said no, why would it? She told him it did after the last service guy left and he replied no it didn't, that the other guy would not have left a partially clogged toilet and left. Does Roto Rooter trained your "Men" to be this rude and to call 85 year old women a liar and to go to CVS so that she stick up her ***? He and since he is a RR representative are both a disgrace and pathetic. Tell your "man" that he was lucky that he dealt with an 85 year old and not someone who isn't afraid to stand up to his rude and belittling attitude.

Buyer beware! We had a failed sump pump that flooded our basement. We used Roto-Rooter for sump pump replacement and water mitigation. There were many issues, which led to our job taking much longer than it should have, as well as the final cost being excessively high. Once Roto-Rooter saw that it was an emergency, and that we had insurance, they really took advantage. The plumber who came out first, David R. quoted us a price for sump pump replacement, which he knew was not covered by our insurance. He gave us a high end price, but said that it wouldn't be that much, and that he would also give us a 10% senior discount on the total replacement job. He went to Lowes to purchase the sump pump that he recommended, and when he got back, he said the pump cost much more than he thought it would. He said that because it was much more, he had to shave money off of the labor charges just to get the cost down to MORE than his high estimate. Not only did he not give us the promised discount off his estimate, but he wouldn't take a valid coupon that I had printed from his Roto-Rooter website that day. He left us the box from the sump pump, so we looked online at Lowes, and saw that he charged us much more for the pump than what he paid. Our next issue was with the Roto-Rooter insurance person, Josh. He talked directly to our insurance rep to confirm that the water mitigation was covered. Of course they want to make sure they would get paid. Josh told us that he would "send a team of 2-3 people" to perform the clean-up. That never happened. No "team" was ever sent. We had just one person, Matthew, who is supposedly their mitigation expert. I told Matthew that we were promised 2-3 people, and he said that they didn't have enough staff to do that. So Matthew did everything himself, including getting rid of the water, tearing up and hauling out wet flooring, going through and moving our furniture and other damaged belongings, and bringing all of the equipment down to, and back out of the basement. This is not a job for one person. At one point, he was trying to carry a big piece of lumber down to the basement to make a table for drying our damaged items. He had so much trouble trying to angle it and get it down the stairs without damaging any of our walls or our furniture, that my 70 year old husband had to help him by moving our dining room furniture out of his way. Matthew commented several times throughout the week, that we should have had more fans for our size of basement, but Roto-Rooter did not have enough equipment available. Because we only had one person on the job, and not enough equipment for drying, the mitigation which we were told would take 3-4 days, took 7 days. And of course, the extended length of time ended up costing us an exhorbitant amount of money. Much more than it would have cost if we'd had 2-3 people as promised, and the appropriate equipment. In retrospect, I wish we would have talked to our insurance provider first. When we talked to our adjuster, he told us that Roto-Rooter is one of the top 3 most expensive companies they work with. Unfortunately, it was an emergency situation, and Roto-Rooter definitely saw us coming, and took full advantage. We're hoping that posting this review will help others in the same situation. We intend to post it wherever appropriate so we can warn as many potential customers as possible. This is an update after being contacted by Roto-Rooter after posting my review on Google. Brad told me that having one person vs. a team of 2-3 did not impact the time or cost of the job. He said Matthew denied having told me that they didn’t have enough staff or equipment to honor the time frame quoted. Brad told me that he couldn’t talk to the plumber, David R., because he was “in the field.” Why would Brad contact me without having spoken to the plumber, since the sump pump install was such a key part of our complaint? Even if Brad thought that I was completely wrong about everything, he never expressed any remorse that we were unhappy with the job, or with his company. We will never hire Roto-Rooter again.

Company was fast to schedule and get somebody to our house (within the hour) but refused to give any cost estimate over the phone. Price quoted on site after somebody came into our house was 3x what I ended up paying another company for the same service (they declined to price match). With the COVID-19 situation happening right now, why would a company send their workers into customers homes just to provide a estimate for a simple drain cleaning?

I was very pleased. We discovered the problem Sunday. We called them within the day and they came out after an hour. They sent a technician named Chris and another contractor. They came down and check the problem, also helped us jump in and move things out of the way. They started the work and it lasts for an hour but it's still not fixed. The third guy came in and put a camera on the line. They double checked everything for the last time and they are confident that everything was working perfectly and it is. We used this company before and I must say that our experience before are way different than what we experienced now. They did a good job, they are on time and very professional. Were very pleased with the service.

Great experience start to finish. I noticed my sump pump was leaking on Saturday at 6 pm and called Roto Rooter. The plumber was in my home 3 hours later on a Saturday night. I was concerned I would need a new sump pump, luckily it was only a leaky pipe valve. The plumber explained to me how the sump pump and float work and how I can check it myself in the future. He fixed the problem quickly using a part on his truck. Cost was very reasonable and there was no after hours or weekend charge. I appreciated the professional, prompt service at a very fair price. I will call Roto Rooter anytime I need a plumber in the future, but especially keep them in mind if something happens outside normal business hours.

After arriving on Sunday, the service person said he couldn't do anything because of the standing water and had to call a "water remediation person" to come and advise. After waiting almost 2 hours for this person, and some discussion they decided it was okay to proceed. We declined their service to "clean the area". They quoted $419 to run this sewer line, but wanted an additional $325 to run the kitchen line. Both much higher than expected. I think they took advantage of the situation and my elderly mother who was home alone at the time. They ran the sewer line and did get the water to go down. The service person left after getting paid. The whole process took about 4 hours. About an hour later, my mother flushed the upstairs toilet and water backup up again in the basement. This time it was minimal, but evident that the job was not done correctly. On Sunday evening, I call Roto-Rooter to complain and the said they would send someone back out on Monday between 1 pm and 3 pm. I was at my mothers home around noon , waiting for them to arrive. At about 3 pm, someone called to say the service person was running late and it would be closer to 3:30 pm. We waited. At about 3:30 pm they called to say it would be another 30 minutes. When the service person arrived, he explained that they did NOT tell him it was a recall for a job from Sunday, and it would be $325 to run the kitchen drain and fix the issues. I explained that my mother had already paid $419 for the sewer line that still wasn't working properly and could not afford another $325. After some extended haggling, he did offer to discount the kitchen line to $200. I agreed to pay this extra charge myself if he guaranteed he would clear the entire kitchen to basement system and fix the issues. This service person was wonderful and did a great job. He got the drains cleared, he slop sink emptied, and the lines running. However, the poor ratings are because of the whole experience and pricing. I called them because of their name and visibility, but never again. While the second service person was wonderful, the whole process smelled kinda like the water in the basement.
Description of Work: Basement drain backed up after flushing upstairs toilet and running water in bathroom sink. Kitchen drain was also slow running and had been for some time. There was about an inch of standing water in the basement, and about 3" of standing water in the basement slop sink.

Our experience with Roto-Rooter was truly the worst experience we've had with a contractor, and we own a complicated 150 year old home, so that is saying something. After noticing our toilets had less pressure than usual, we called Roto-Rooter for a diagnosis. They scheduled a technician to come out a few days later (over a holiday weekend, which was great, actually). The service technician arrived two hours past our four-hour window. He snaked our drains and was able to clear out a lot of issues in the sewer drains, but noticed there might be an issue 60-80 feet out, but that we should be good to go for 6+ months. We opted to pay to have a camera snaked through the drains as a follow-up appointment to ensure we were all clear. A second technician came out the following Monday with the camera. After snaking the camera, he informed us there we a clog or collapsed drain (couldn't tell) 60 feet out from our home in the street, but because it was in our lateral, would be our responsibility. He got us a quote within 5 minutes. The quote was for $23,000 to dig up the road, replace the pipe or clear the clog, and then repair the road. $23,000! He also said we needed to "make a decision fast" because we could clog again in less than a week. Seemed like a scare tactic to us, so we opted to get a few more quotes from local, family-owned plumbing companies. Since then, we've learned that there IS likely an issue, but we've had other estimates come in at $5,000 total for the exact same service. Additionally, another contractor was able to identify with their camera that we actually share the lateral with our neighbor, so we'd need to work together with them to split costs, since it's a shared issue. This is not something that Roto-Rooter either saw with their camera or took time to investigate. Overall, maybe Roto-Rooter is great for small issues, but they were a rushed, sloppy, salesy disaster when it came to quoting an estimate for a larger issue. Beware. We will definitely be working with smaller, local plumbing companies in the future.

We called Roto Rooter because of the name recognition. But after 3 days of this company giving me a 2 hour window, but never showing up, we decided to find another company. Each day I had to call the office to see where the technician was (since it was AFTER my 2 hour window) they told me because they needed 150' cable and not every truck had a 150' cable, so I had to be patient and wait. Well, the third time (today) I decided enough is enough. 3 strikes, you're out. When I called the office at 12:30 asking where the technician was (they told me I was on the front end of the 8-12 window but no one came) the office said the same thing about the 150' cable. I said, "you know what, just take us off the books, apparently the truck with the 150' cable is very hard to come by and I don't want to wait any longer" my 3 days of inconvenience, changing my schedule to wait for them. SO MUCH FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I would suggest finding another company! FAST! Don't waste your time with this one! They apparently don't need or care about having your business.

Representative from the company came out to assess the problem and give me a quote to fix it. He informed me the faucet needed a new cartridge and that the charge would be $395. When I voiced surprise that it would be that expensive he said “well there’s a coupon floating around I could take $75 off”. I told him I would have to check with my son before I commit to that amount. I ask what the charge was for him to come out and he said nothing. My son bought the necessary cartridge for $40 and installed it in about 30 minutes. I am dismayed that a large company would have such shodry business practices.

He spent less than 1/2 hour on site. Used an auger to clear the line....flushed.....used the auger once again...:and then applied Roto Rooter brand “Pipe Shield” an acid enzyme treatment. He indicated there was a build up in the goosebeck of the toilet. Time for the bill .... $290!!! Outrageously expensive! And then he wanted to sell me the same process for the other toilets in the house for $100 per toilet! “Holidays are coming. You don’t want this to happen again!” Never again will I call this company!

I called around first. Roto-rooter siad they could come that day and did not indicate any "emergency" fee. I had turned down another company that would come on that basis for $289/hr. The service man came as described and did the work; I did not understand that every time he quoted me another price, it was CUMULATIVE and the work was billed at $319/hr. This work cost $1123. THEN there was quite a bit of high pressure about abating the wet place and the service man called HIS company. I had to sign a lot of docs and within was a 3-day cancel. When this guy told me NOT to call my insurance company, it was a wake-up call. In short, I called my insurance company who asked me to cancel Roto-Rooter restoration services and provided other options they felt to have more integrity. I did cancel, and that service man was VERY unhappy with me. Bottom line, I will ask hourly rate now--it should have been given up front--but my problem since I heard no mention of emergency and wrongly assumed it would be less than the emergency rate quoted by another company. The plumbing repair appears to have solved the problem, but I've learned my lesson but would NOT call Roto-Rooter again.

My husband scheduled a service visit for Saturday, September 30. He received a confirmation email from the company listing the service time between 8:15 - 12:15, ticket nr. 19781127. They would call 30 minutes prior to the technician's arrival. Saturday arrives, 8:15, no call. My husband called the number provided in the email, the lady said they did not have us on the schedule. She then apologized and said someone would be here between 9:00-11:00. At appx. 10:45 my husband called and the lady said the technician was running late. A few minutes later, she called back and said he wouldn't be able to get to our house until around 2pm. My husband was fed up at the terrible customer service and just cancelled.

The overall experience grade would be 'A' except for the actual scheduling experience. Our Plumber, Jeremy, was amazing, educational, prompt, quick and so very nice. The final price was excellent, too. We live in Chicago but have family property in Logan, OH. We stayed at the property the weekend of 15 Sept. That Saturday night our whole house water filter started to leak. We called the 24 Emergency line for Roto Rooter. They tried to get someone out Sunday but could not. The best they could do was get Jeremy to us on Monday at 9:00 a.m. Their version of Emergency did not match the lay person's definition of "24 Hour Emergency." The scheduling issue aside once we had Jeremy on the property it could not have been better. As noted above he diagnosed the issue right away, had the equipment needed on the truck and was in and out in no time. While doing the repair work he talked me through other options for some of the plumbing that I can do myself or call Roto Rooter back for help. Very nice and professional. I would use them again for any issue at the Logan house.

HORRIBLE! HOME OWNER BEWARE! DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY! When I called to get an estimate I let them know I needed by Tuesday evening at the VERY latest. Scheduled 4 hour window that evening but no one showed, no one called to let me know running late, no one told me didn't have to wait there. Finally gave up and rescheduled for the next day after almost 5 hours of waiting and went home (30 min drive). Next day another 4 hour window given, it has now been almost 7 hours and no one has showed. No one calls me to give an update, I have had to call repeatedly and give my name, address, etc every single time and explain the situation multiple times. When asked for manager they put a request in (over 2 hours ago) to have a manger call me since none were working. Last guy I spoke with was so difficult to deal with I cancelled the request and I am looking for someone else to handle. I NEVER would recommend this company to anyone and will definitely be sharing my horrible experience. They are mismanaged, poor communication, and do not hold to their word. I left a lot out but you can see from this the kind of service I have received.

My problem with the company is not with the people who did most of the work. It's with the company itself. I called them to dispatch a plumber for an emergency water leak problem. They did respond in a reasonable period of time, but things went downhill from there. A plumber was dispatched, who discovered the source of the leak (a broken water tank in the 2nd floor bathroom toilet) and shut the water off. (good). The leak ruined the floor in the bath, the ceiling in the first floor laundry room the floor in the 1/2 bath and down to the basement. He called in his co-workers who gave me a "ballpark" estimate of $4000 to $5000 to mitigate the damage. (bad). In the meantime, the plumber decided to replace the toilet and returned an hour later with a new unit. My question is this: Why put a new toilet in when the floor underneath it had to be replaced? I'll admit, I wasn't thinking clearly then or I would have stopped him right then and there. He charged me over $1000 for his services that day. His co-workers showed up the next day and proceeded to dry the soaked floor up. The FIRST thing they did was to remove the new toilet in order to tear the flooring up underneath. Now, I don't have a problem with them or the work they did in order to prep my house for repairs. They were thorough, respectful, and efficient. They visited my house several times to check on their "dryers" (Machines that blow heated air to dry up soaked wood). A week or so after they finished, I got a bill from them for $13,000 in addition to the money I had already paid for the toilet. (Ugly). My homeowners insurance company FREAKED! More than a month later, they have yet to settle with Roto-Rooter and in the mean time, I have gotten two additional letters from Roto-Rooter asking for immediate payment. I have subsequently tried to contact Roto-Rooter on a number of occasions, but my telephone messages go unreturned. I agree that if I owe someone I will make restitution, but since this was turned over to the insurance company almost immediately, I feel that any communication at this point should be between them (Roto-Rooter) and the insurance company.

I always ask for him because he does a thorough job no matter how long it takes. He may cost too much but, he knows what he's doing. I only ask for Clyde. I don't know what the price should be, I guess, average; the normal range for something like that. This guy is pretty up front and honest. I say ask for Clyde; he makes the difference.
Description of Work: I had to have a shower spicket changed out. We have a ranch and it was really hard for him to to get to it. He had to do a lot of work.
