They came-out on an emergency basis and were here for several hours. I thought that they were a bit pricey, but I didn't have anything to compare it to. They did a good job.
Description of Work: They replaced a garbage disposal and ran snakes down my basement drains.

It wasn't an emergency but we were glad to get somebody out here within two hours because sewer was getting backed up into basement which is not very pleasant. The only recommendation for them would be to use shoe covers so they don't track dirt through house.
Description of Work: Our sewer was stopped up going from our house out to where it connected with the city. I can't remember the exact date, but that was several months ago. They told us when we called that they would be here within two hours and came out right away even though it was already night. Gave estimate after they got here and could tell what the problem was.

I called Roto Rooter, they came out the next day since I didn't consoder it an emergency. Chad worked at unclogging the drain, it took 2 hours. He cleaned up the basement floor and explained my possiblw problem. He suggested making an appt for a video scan of the drain to see what and how serious the blockage was. he was very professional and cleaned up everything very well.

I've found them to be extremely overpriced and I felt they misrepresented the work they were doing. I was extremely overcharged for the services, and was pushed into having Roto Rooter fix the problem because they said it needed to be fixed immediately. It still took nearly a week before that part of it was completely fixed. Then, after fixing the cleanout, they saw another spot, by the street, that was collapsed. They quoted me another $3,000+ to fix it. I had another company come out and do that part. The total bill was less than $1,000 for the other company, AND the other company got the city to pay for it. Roto-Rooter was rude, unprofessional, and over-priced. I would not recommend them to anyone.

We called that morning to schedule appointment. The operator indicated they always try to schedule appointments same day. The technician was scheduled for a 2-hour window that evening and actually called and arrived 10 minutes early. We were having issues with water rising out of our main basement floor drain. After opening the main drain, the technician determined that our minor flooding issues were due to tree roots or some obstruction in the main plumbing line in the backyard. He was able to sufficiently clean and treat the line all in about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The end result was very satisfying. I have an older house with older plumbing and was not expecting the clog to be cleared without extensive work being done. The technicians refused to give up and went above and beyond my expectations resulting in a free and clear drain.
Description of Work: Technicians cleared clog that was impeding flow of water in upstairs bathroom sink drain. First technician snaked drain for approximately 2 hours and thought drain had cleared. However, I found that it was still clogged after tech left. Called Roto-Rooter and tech returned and snaked drain for another hour with no result. Roto-Rooter sent second technician who snaked and blow bagged drain for over an hour and was able to clear drain.

I had a floor drain backing up. I called and they showed up at the doorstep within an hour. They were very quick and helpful on providing me preventative maintenance, so I wouldn't need the same service again. Ray did a great job and was very kind and quick. A little pricey for the time and work, but I didn't have the tools to do what needed done.

They came out and knew exactly what to do to help. He ran a snake through the line out to the sewer and it got rid of the water standing in our basement. He cleaned out the roots and I have not had any trouble since then. Other companies were offering to charge lots of money to install a sump pump, which was not needed. I was very pleased with their work and the pricing was as reasonable as possible.

The guy proceeded to work at a quick pace and was professional while he was here, and when finished, did explain everything he did, but again, some of it was in his own trade "lingo" and I think he was aware by talking quickly and moving in a rushed way. I was a little surprised at the bill of just under $400, but was relieved to have the problem fixed. The next day after running the dishwasher, to my distress, the same thing happened, with water and food rushing from the pipe in the basement and food coming out with it (chopped up from the garbage disposal)! This time I called my husband and explained all that had happened. After the shock of the price I had paid, he tried to understand what RotoRooter had actually done, and I explained to the best of my ability over the phone. I called an independent plumber who was referred to me as a guy who was skilled and charged reasonable rates. Long story short: the independent plumber came out and showed me that the blockage was NOT gone at all, that they had probably fixed a small piece of it only, and that he would require more tools and a long power snake to hopefully reach it, it was so deep. He also showed me where the laundrey blockage was only partly gone, showing me how the water was still rising ALMOST to the floor and out of the drain. His assessment was that they did only part of the job but did not complete the job, and that we should call them back to finish it, especially for the price we paid. My husband called the representative who had worked here and reasonably tried to explain the entire situation, and find out from Roto's perspective what had gone on. He also explained to the guy where he was and why I was involved when he would have normally been there. After all that, the representative was curt, flippant and rude and replied that IF he went out to fix anything, he would charge us again, the same amount, maybe more depending on services, and that he had explained everything to me. But it wasn't fixed my husband told him! The representative was unmoved and ruder still. My husband finally told him that while he was away, he felt he took advantage of his wife's lack of knowledge on plumbing and that we would never use Roto Rooter again, and that that was what Angie's List was for. The guy seemed unphased and did not seem to care that business would be lost. We certainly will not use their services again. The independent plumber we used did fix the problem and I paid him a total of about $160 -- Roto Rooter did next to nothing. And the plumber we used was not a friend or relative, I had just met him, so he was charging us his normal rate. Thanks for letting me warn others.
Description of Work: Whenever I ran the dishwasher (and with a family I ran it at least once a day), water and food would leak out massively from a pipe in the basement and leak out all over the floor with water and bits of food. Also, when I ran my washing machine in the basement water would rise up through the drain and leak onto the floor. Roto Rooter came out, reviewed the situation, and said (in a long detailed explaination) that they would fix the "floor drain stoppage" and also recommended that he should fix the "laundrey line stoppage cable", which I agreed to, not completely understanding his "lingo" without my husband here (he is out of the state for an extended time with the military). He then recommended one further service, but spoke his trade language, and I frankly was not sure I understood, so I told him to do only the first two items. My husband is away on a 1-year deployment with the Army so I had to take care of this on my own, which I was not used to doing and did not have a great understanding of plumbing and drainage issues. The representative proceeded to work.

Before the excavation occurred, we pointed out to the workmen and to the field supervisor in advance of the work that we had a separate electric line running to a front lamp, which works by sensor. We were told that this would be a work around they could manage and that the lamp would not be affected. We reminded them again before they started digging, and they said they were ?aware.? When the workmen left after completing their work, they told my son that the lamp wire had been reconnected and was working. There was a length of wiring left on our front porch from the excavation work. When we arrived home on Sunday, the lamp was not working. We contacted RotoRooter the following day, and received intermittent call backs with comments like ?check the circuit breaker,? ?the bulb needs changing,? and ?someone will be out by Wednesday.? After 3 weeks no one from Roto Rooter had come to our house or scheduled a meeting, so I contacted VISA to withhold the balance of payment. After this notificationw was received, Roto Rooter sent out an ?electrician? to redig a portion of the line and make the repair on October 22. The lamp worked after that, so I released payment of the balance of $1472.50 from VISA. On October 31, after several days of fall rain, there apparently was another short in the wiring and the lamp did not work. Rather than have Roto Rooter's ?electrician? perform another repair, and doubtful that they would even respond since I had no financial leverage at that point, we contracted with an electrical service to come out and repair the line. We were told that the cut areas had not been properly sealed (the splices were not waterproofed) and the line had to be redug and respliced. As I feared, this entailed an additional cost of $332.50 for labor primarily. And this was the best rate we were offered. I sent a letter to Roto Rooter on November 7 requesting that they reimburse us for the $332.50.
Description of Work: Due to a sewer line back-up in late September, we contracted with Roto Rooter to excavate the front yard to access the sewer line, install a new line from the foundation to the main sewer line, and bed and backfill the trench. In the process we understood that we would incur some damage to the front garden bed and framing, the bushes, and would have to contract to have the extra dirt and debris carted off. This we understood and took care of.

They do have the name but I would not go back to them again. They did a good job but I think they are over priced for what they do. I think I can get the service done by someone who charges less and does the same thing. I was strongly encouraged to purchase what is called a sleeve that goes into the pipe drain so that the roots do not come in again which costs a lot. They used the cameras to capture the images and I watched the video. He showed the areas that had the problem. They were trying to sell me things that I could not afford.
